Came here today and I was pretty impressed at the food quality. Seafood was fresh and the service was good. This environment was chill but I do feel as if the location does itself a disservice being that it's tucked into liberty station. Albeit I would absolutely comeback

YOU WANT TO DINE HERE!!!!! Best quality sushi in San Diego! Enjoy all that Liberty Station has to offer! IKIRU offers toro and LIVE UNI, watch out for the spikes!!! Priced conservatively for the QUALITY, go enjoy!!

This is located near Trader Joe's in liberty station. Plenty of street parking. You might not notice that this exists since their location is in an alleyway. I didn't know it till someone recommended this place. Very small space. Maybe can fit 40-50 people. We were seated at the bar right away. My friend did recommend to get here when they open, and they were right. It got real busy real soon. Their menu is stackedddd. So much to choose from. Spicy calamari- 2/5 not spicy at all. It needed to be little bit more crunchy. Side salad- 3/5 can't go wrong with basic salad. Special poke- 2/5 too much sesame seed oil. That was all we could taste. Sunset- 4/5 this is what spicy tuna should taste like. This was our favorite. Stardust- 1/5 nobody wanted to finish this up. Service was ok. I just wish the combination of their sushi was better.

Had the lunch special combo today; sushi and sashimi with miso soup green salad included. I also ordered garlic edamame and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly! I will be back soon for dinner! The staff is so friendly and helpful. The location in Liberty station by Fig Tree is easy to access, parking on all sides available and the cafe is authentic Japanese interior with Japanese sushi chefs!

It's small inside but intimate and cozy. Reminds me of Japan! The sushi is so delicious. I got the Liberty Roll and it was gone so fast. They have fresh wasabi root you can order and it is delicious! The tempura was really good! The beef is super tender. I have no complaints here. Service is fast and everyone I came in contact with was very kind!

So fresh, they were cutting it right in front of us

First off, I must say this is some of the best sushi I've ever had. We ordered a few orders of nigiri with different types of fish - albacore, blue fin tuna, salmon, and yellowtail belly. Every single piece was buttery and delicious and with some of the freshest sushi I've ever had. The service was good. The ambience was very traditional and the employees were kind and welcoming. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy amazing sushi

Decided to stop in for a take home order right before they closed after lunch around 230pm. Really pleasant customer service. Always fresh fish every time I've visited though I never realized they had fresh wasabi, so I made sure to order this time. A little on the pricier side but I feel is well worth it.

The food here is amazing super fresh delicious fish. The service is good. The restaurant is small inside but definitely worth it.

Wanted a light lunch--swung by at 12:10 PM on a Sunday and we were able to be seated immediately for two people. There's a good variety of options on the menu--I decided to go with the Orange Crush roll after scrolling through reviews. It was delicious--salmon sashimi was fresh with the creamy scallop filling and crunchy cucumber, and the rice was well cooked. Space is no frills, service is fast, and food is authentic with fresh fish. Great option for sushi in SD--would love to come back and try more items on the menu.

We stumbled upon Ikiru while searching for a different restaurant at Liberty Station. Whew, were we glad we did! We were met with well prepared, generous portions of fresh sushi, the most delicious miso soup, and the feeling of home. The place is small and clearly a local favorite (it was packed!). Even so, the service was friendly and attentive. The perfect find after a long travel day! Bookmarked.

Love this restaurant. Usually get the same two servers and they are amazing at their job. Small restaurant but lots of seats as well as sushi bar seats. Have never had to wait. I've tried all their lunch bentos as well as their spicy miso ramen (yummm!), no complaints here. Their prices are fair as well.

After any day I always crave sushi and on a Sunday when many places close early we had a hard time finding a new spot to try until ikiru. Located behind the Trader Joe's in NTC in Point Loma. Parking was amble as most places were already closed. If you see the sign for Tender Greens or Fig Tree Cafe it's behind them both in the hallway. You won't see it from the street until you walk past both restaurants. It is a smaller restaurant but the decor and staff have welcoming and warm vibe for the intimate setting. We ordered the special jalapeño hamachi sashimi, hamachi otoro, hamachi sashimi, stardust sushi and gyoza pan fired. As you can see hamachi was on our minds lol. The fish was very fresh. The mixture of lemon, jalapeño with hamachi when done right is my absolute favorite. The hamachi otoro melts in your mouth. Ahhhh those bites can't be any more perfect. The prices of sashimi ranged from $9-$25. The roll was $17 so it quickly added up to just under $100. The sushi satisfied my craving, but the otoro was the winner in the meal. Look forward a return visit to try more of the menu.

Yes, but I spoke to them on 7/10 and they said they are planning to do indoor dining as of 7/14

    All you can eat?

    No it is not.

Do they have a hibachi grill? Or teppen grill?

    Nope.

I know people who love this place so much that it is part of their regular rotation. Me being born and raised in San Diego without ever trying it almost felt like a crime. I finally decided it was time to pay a visit. We came with a party of five. The seating setup was a little different from what I expected. We ended up at a long picnic table style booth that we shared with another couple. It honestly was not an issue since there was still plenty of space. It was just a different concept for me. The servers were super friendly and bubbly. They moved fast too. Our food came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Char-grilled Beef, Eggroll & Cold Vermicelli Noodles, Fresh Spring Rolls, the famous Spicy Garlic Wings plus the Korean Beef Short Ribs. The Fresh Spring Rolls were good. They were filled with shrimp, thinly sliced pork, lettuce, vermicelli noodles, basil plus bean sprouts. The peanut plum hoisin sauce definitely carried them though. Add some of their chili sauce into it too. Delicious. Now for the Spicy Garlic Wings. I know everyone raves about these, but honestly, based on the ones we got, I feel like I would rather have Wingstop. They were really dry. I even asked a friend who has been here before if that was normal. Apparently they are usually not like that, so maybe we just caught them on a bad day or they spent a little too much time in the fryer. Either way, they had definitely lost a lot of their moisture. The flavor was there, but the dryness made it hard for them to really stand out to me. My favorite was easily the Korean Beef Short Ribs. They came out sizzling over caramelized onions with a generous amount of marinated meat. Great flavor. Great texture. Delicious. This was probably the one dish I would order again without thinking twice. The Char-grilled Beef, Eggroll & Cold Vermicelli Noodles were fine. The noodles were a little too bouncy and chewy for me. They almost tasted slightly underdone. The grilled beef had great flavor though. Once everything was mixed with the fish sauce, it came together much better.

Our server was so friendly and brought out menus quickly since it was self seating. The outside seating was the perfect spot for some people watching and generally enjoying the weather. Now in terms of the food.. we enjoyed the little pickle platter. Unfortunately it came out much earlier than the rolls and we were quite hungry so we ate most of them before our rolls came out. They would have been great pairings with the rolls themselves. The kabocha squash roll was so unique and surprisingly tasty. A sweeter creamier roll for sure. The salmon skin roll was a nice savory balance to the squash roll. I'd have to say the salmon skin roll was my favorite. We'll definitely be back to try some of the other rolls!

And this review is after that experience, so we can compare and contrast things like pricing and quality. When you come here you must bring a loaded wallet. To try a sour beer or any of their Russian River beers, (which was a surprise to us that there even was beer coming out of Russian River, a place I love for wine) .... is $19 for a bottle. And if you've never tried a sour beer and no one likes it, there are no returns. You pay your money and you take your chances. They are creative at The Joint. I mean an eel roll with macadamia nuts is a brilliant twist on sushi. The second thing we try is their soft shell crab roll. Delicious. Everyone at the table 'seconds' these comments. I ask someone on the way in, seated at a table eating sushi if it is good. He says: "I'll let you know". Later, he comes back to our table to let me yes! It's really good". So is this a good place to go for Sushi? The answer is yes. Is it a little confusing as an asian fusion place to have so many diverse choices? The answer is yes, but I also admit I do like all the options. Again, they call their Happy Hour food 'Tapas'. Is that Spanish, or is it just me? Japanese fried chicken or an arugula salad or oysters? lol Your taste buds must travel all over the place and that's hard on the palate and my headspace of 'what am I eating'? Is it overpriced? The answer is yes! And if I'm being honest, it surprises me that no one else on yelp is mentioning this. If money is not an issue and you want good sushi, our group recommends trying The Joint. Just don't count on happy hour having happy prices. $4 for an oyster is not happy! It's regular priced. Maybe even over priced for a happy hour menu where oysters come in at $1 and $2 for happy hour. And today, they are all out of oysters. lol We usually just tell you what to order when you go to a restaurant. This is the first time we have felt the need to let you know what you're in for, price wise. Sorry to the wonderful staff and great chef. No idea why they need to represent themselves as 'happy hour noon - 6pm every day', leading me to believe there is good pricing. But it's not my zoo, not my monkeys.
