I absolutely love this place the food, the atmosphere, and especially the service! The restaurant is clean and not overly crowded, which makes for a very comfortable dining experience. The food is amazing. We really enjoyed the seaweeds salad and the garlic edamame were delicious and definitely worth ordering. What stood out the most was the service. Got takeout from OB Sushiya and ordered the chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu entrees. Both come with a salad and either a four piece California roll or cream cheese wontons, which is a nice touch. We also ordered egg rolls. Overall, I thought the food was average. The main reason I tried this spot was because the entrees looked inexpensive online, but our total came out to $46 for both entrees, so the prices on the website don't seem accurate. Good place if you want decent straight-forward sushi. We got two rolls, calamari, and the stuffed jalapenos. My favorite of the four items were the jalapenos but the calamari was cooked very well. We ordered sashimi and half of it was not even what they advertised on the menu. They replaced the bluefin tuna with very very bad cuts of Ahi tuna. Not even ahi that I would ever even think of serving as sashimi. They claimed to have Japanese mackerel, which was not Japanese mackerel. It was Pacific Coast or common mackerel. Very very very fishy, and not nearly as delicate as the Japanese kind. Their yellowtail sashimi was pretty good, but it just made me pretty angry that they were trying to pass off very very low quality ahi tuna as bluefin tuna, and also low quality mackerel for Japanese mackerel.. If you don't care about fish quality, their rolls are very good, their appetizers are very very good. So I would say if you don't care much about raw fish quality and you like good rolls. Go there, but if you want high-quality sashimi, don't go anywhere near this place. read more

Haven't been in this place for years and I recently went with my gf, let me tell you it did not disappoint. I'm starting to hate the fact that if I want good food I'll have to drive somewhere that's not where I live. Sushi was good while in happy hour, I did order some bbq shake fries thinking it was something good (was just fries with bbq seasoning) was mislead thinking it was something better. We were at a street fest in OB. We searched for sushi on yelp and this place was right behind us. It was moderately crowded at around 3pm. The sashimi yellowtail and salmon were great. Had a particularly good experience here today. I've been quite a few times in the past, and it was pretty good, but it seems they made some pretty serious upgrades/improvements. Everything was clean and crisp and newly decorated. Staff was all friendly and even opened a couple minutes early for us. Rolls came out quick and we're all really excellent. Living in Ocean Beach, I am always trying to support our local businesses and was looking forward to checking this one out. The reviews seemed okay and I had good expectations going in. We went on a Sunday night and it was pretty empty which for OB in the summertime that concerned me but we went for it anyway. Unlike most of my friends I am not an adventurous sushi eater so I'm fairly easy to please. I's after a few standard rolls, the food was decent but nothing jumped out as a "I have to have that again". The only issue I had was how long it took to get our food even with a fairly empty restaurant. Anyone can have an off day but that's always a negative when you wait extra long. The service behind the counter was friendly and very welcoming but the actual waiter seem to be distracted. OB Sushiya is the replacement sushi joint for OB Sushi Sushi which had previously operated out of this suite. The inside was colorfully lit and neatly organized. I took a seat at one of the booths located on the left side of the room. The right side had two bar areas, one of which was in front of the sushi chefs doing their prep work. A menu, a pencil, and a sushi order sheet were given to me after I had been seated. The menu had several pages with lots of categories to choose from. There were three tiers of maki rolls (classic, special, premium) with nearly 60 total choices. The prices of all the rolls were very fair with the most expensive being $15.95. It was difficult to narrow down my selections, but they were the following along with an eel hand roll. * Cherry Blossom: tuna, salmon, hamachi, spicy tuna, daikon, and gobo wrapped in soy paper topped with ponzu sauce * Jasmine Roll: spicy scallop and cucumber on the inside topped with salmon, lemon, ponzu sauce, and cilantro * Spicy Hercules: spicy tuna, scallop, salmon - wrapped in cucumber & soy paper with mustard sauce The Cherry Blossom came as four pieces while the other two rolls had eight pieces. I think the Spicy Hercules was prepared differently than as described because there was no cucumber & soy paper wrap nor any mustard sauce. The Jasmine Roll was my favorite combination of the trio as the tartness from the lemon helped cut through the seafood. The eel hand roll was average in size, but it was a nice sweet way to end the meal. The service was pleasant and prompt although one waitress was slightly unfamiliar with the menu items and had to ask another staff member (or chef) for verification. read more

We did have to remind our waitress a few times about our food and drinks since she forgot them, but the food itself was pretty good when it came! We really liked the jalapeño poppers and samurai roll. The Hawaiian roll needed some spicy Mayo or something, it was a little bland. Also, we ordered a spicy Philadelphia roll and got a regular Philadelphia roll instead. We also ordered an eel nigiri that never came. Found this spot while walking around the OB area. I got the spicy tuna roll and my bf got the chicken and beef teriyaki bento. The meat in the bento was a bit tough but the flavor was good! I enjoyed my spicy tuna with the imitation crab, it was fresh and was filling. They were welcoming as we dined in. It feels like a wonderful small mom and pop shop and seems like a great place for groups and couples.
