He made sure we had all the parmesan we wanted on the pasta, and needed anything we wanted: We ordered the gnocchi , pasta, mozzarella, and ravioli. It was all reasonably priced, ranging from 12-20$ . Our meal came out to 77 with three pastas and an appetizer! The caprese was delicious and so was our meals. We ordered the carpaccio as an appetizer, and it was one of the best carpaccio's that we've ever tried. For our entrees, I ordered the tortellini which did not disappoint at all, and my boyfriend ordered a spicy red pasta (forgot what it's called). The service was outstanding. I had to cancel my birthday to Milan due to flight cancellations.. To soothe my sorrow, I wanted to try a local Italian restaurant. The photos, food descriptions, and reviews are amazing. Do make a reservation. Service is prompt and friendly. Drink and wine list is robust. Bread service is delightful - soft and hearty sloces to soak up the garlic and spices bathing in a delightful olive oil. Burrata and Arugula was delicious and refreshing. Pasta and clams were perfect. Valentine heart shaped ravioli and sauce were divine, I could have easily ordered another serving, but had to make room for the tiramisu. We also ordered a Negroni and Limoncello Spritz - perfect! Bathroom was super clean! The reason for the 3 stars is due to the letdown on the cacio e pepe - I realize the restaurant is called after the farro grain, and was told the dish is made with it rather than risotto. Also, in the menu description, it was suppose to be prepared in a parmasan wheel at tableside. What was served was a barely soup and was told the parma wheel presentation was discontinued due to Covid. Well, four years later, their menu should be updated, or they lied. I ordered a side of risotto, and was told it was made with farro, which I was ok with, but was served a smaller portion of the cacio e pepe. Neither dish has a distinct flavor of cheese. Hoping the dishes would get better with more Parm, we asked for more cheese. Server brought over a gentleman that provided us with a few spoonfuls of grated young parmesan, that I hope was imported from Italy; sadly, it remained underwhelming. Before the tiramisu was served, our left over cacio e pepe and risotto were packed and placed to the side. Our table was 3x3 square for three people, so there wasn't much space, but doable, didn't affect our dining experience. We forgot our leftovers, I wasn't sad because I don't think I could have repaired those dishes at home, anyway. I'd say give the place a try. There is more to their menu than cacio e pepe, which I will not be ordering next time. Maybe the cook was having a bad day. read more

I was excited to visit this restaurant after seeing good reviews but unfortunately it did not quite live up to our expectations. The staff is very friendly and we were seated and placed our orders quickly. The initial plate of bread and oil was very tasty (be mindful if you don't like garlic, the oil is a garlic delight!). I'm not sure how (or why) but somehow none of us seemed to vibe with the dishes we received. Only two of us (myself included) ended up finishing more than half of our dish. The dishes themselves seemed to not have much defining texture, which is a shame since some fresh/steamed/grilled veggies or some other sort of crispness on the side/incorporated could have provided a much needed break from the rich cream sauce. I want to start by saying the waiter was quite rude. I was ready to order and he aggressively cut me off saying wait let me get the drinks first and let me start with her and pointed to my friend. He said "I don't want to get confused". Confused with what? I was trying to order appetizers to start. I've never had a waiter tell me I can't order appetizers. We ordered the carpaccio, rigatoni, burrata, linguini and the risotto. The food was okay nothing spectacular. The ambiance was nice but I probably wouldn't come back here. Legendary, this is the best word that I'm able to begin this review with. Chef-O creates delectable specials that are a must eat when you are in Newport Beach. Having had food all over Italy, this is the closest I have ever gotten this side of the Atlantic. Red sauce covered clams, calamari and salmon...pink sauce covered rolled lasagna... tiramisu... limoncello...espresso; fresh and exotic ingredients are just a part of what makes this a dining experience. The food was over all good. I wish when they brought the complimentary bread out it would be warm. There were 6 of us and we all ordered different items. None of the food was bad. I actually enjoyed my tortellini. Our server was a sweet guy and was very attentive. The problem is we came from out of town to spend time with our kids and catch up on our first night together... Another server interrupted us to talk about how he is a Hawaiian surfer and blah blah blah. We tried to listen and be polite but he just kept talking. Then it was a constant just hovering over our table. And when we got our food we started talking and still right behind me hovering. And then the owner comes out and starts talking to us which was sweet but at this point a tad annoying. I honestly haven't been to a place where it was just constant interruptions. Took my wife here on our anniversary, don't plan on coming back. The atmosphere was terrible; there were hooligans going crazy outside right by our seats and yelling out their car windows, so we wanted to be seated inside, which seemed to be kind of a problem. We eventually were able to go inside, and the owner was nice, as was the waitress Sam. Even inside though, it just seemed disorganized, and the food was very bland and average. But perhaps the worst part of this experience is that we got charged almost $100 three months after we went!!!!!!!! I called them and they said, "sorry, our machine in august/July was making a mistake and not charging people, but now it is!" What? You can't just take almost $100 dollars out of someone's account when they're not expecting it. People are not budgeting for that. So with the food and service this place is three stars. But with the random withdrawal of money when someone is already living basically paycheck to paycheck, it's a 1 star place. Don't go here folks! read more

When you go to an Italian restaurant in a super touristy area, you don't expect much. I was with my daughter who is not a fan of seafood and pretty much every restaurant in the area is very heavy on lobster with some places not even having options besides fish and seafood on the kids menu, plus she is lactose intolerant which limits our options. When she saw pasta on the menu she got excited and I didn't have the heart to talk her out of it. Well, I am glad I didn't. Their fresh pastas are absolutely yummy, I had lobster ravioli with shrimp and vodka sauce and my daughter devoured a plate of spaghetti with a very sizable slice of grilled steak. Bread is nothing to write home about, I wish they had some fresh rosemary focaccia or some crusty ciabatta, but the drinks are good, and the service is fantastic. We'll back. Here is the problem though! My kid ordered the angle hair pasta with butter which was good. When the bill came the bowl of angle hair was $10 and the butter was $12!!! it was more expensive than both of our other meals. When I asked our waiter who appeared to be the manager he said that he thought that it was ridiculous also but that's the price that the boss has set but said he would take care of it and remove the $12 for the butter. When he brought the bill back, he had only removed $4 of it. I was irritated and paid and left. I believe this place to be shady in their business ethics. read more
