Opened in October 2014 to fanfare about its California-inspired approach to produce and generalized Italian-cum-Mediterranean cuisine, thanks to chef Justin Smillie's inventiveness, Upland just seems run-of-the-mill today. The reception staff were friendly and efficient, whisking away my wool-overcoat in seconds. My spirits lifted as a seat at the end of the bar was located for me. Upland's tall street windows, double-height ceilings, milk-glass sconces, green-enameled pendants, pale panelling, banquettes, and the primacy of its bar echo the modernity of Charlie Bird in SoHo and the unfussiness of Via Carota in the West Village -- but lacks the energy of either of them. Over-use of wine bottles and jars of lemons in brine as decorative elements just feels dated now, rather than charming. Like the space, my little gem salad first-course and beef tartare second-course each lacked verve. Despite ribbons of ricotta salata and walnut vinaigrette the former lacked flavor, while the latter was overpowered by a dusting of chilies that I was not expecting. My glass of Mendocino Chardonnay served in a shapely Spiegalelau glass was delicious, as was the macchiato. Service at the bar where I ate could have been better; I had to ask for plates to be cleared. Perhaps it was because activity at the bar centered around cocktails and beer. The room was far from empty, and the appeal is obvious. Still, next time in the neighborhood, I'd likely choose Borgo.

Food, service, & vibe were top notch. The team at Upland were friendly, knowledgeable, and detailed. They went above and beyond when to ensure anyone with food restrictions had options. The food and wine (Cade Sauvignon Blanc) were delicious and regret not taking pictures of everything. Attached is a picture of the menu for our group. I look forward to returning and trying more dishes.

Elevated restaurant with reliably good food and service. Plenty of natural light in their space, which I'm always a sucker for. If you're looking for a little pizazz in your restaurant rotation, Upland is the place on an unassuming stretch of 26th. The menu options vary depending on the season, but is California inspired, which as a native, makes me nostalgic every time I come here. Their burger is worth the hype (and sticker tag) but only if you're in the mood. Love their brunch options, which if you go early, makes for a relaxing and pleasurable experience. My toddler son, husband and I dined here on a recent visit, and it was the most relaxing brunch I've had in years. Quiet, calm and kudos to our server who had the infinite patience of an angel with our toddler (who was, thankfully, on his best behavior). Oh, limone pizza - get it. It sounds so wrong, but probably was the star of the show for me. Perfect balance of citrus zest and cheese - and the arugula adds a kick. YUM.

Upland has a wide variety of food options to choose from whether you are a meat lover or vegetarian. The ambience was nice and the service was excellent. We came with friends on our last night visiting NYC and also celebrated our friend's 25th Wedding Anniversary with some awesome dessert. There were more items I forgot to take photos of like the skirt steak, Cesar salad, Upland "Nutter Butter" and sorbet.

What a delightful experience! Came here for dinner on a Tuesday evening and it was absolutely amazing! The wait staff here were extremely attentive and ensured we had a great dining experience! Special shout out to Olive for making the experience that much better. The food was delicious, and we were able to try a nice range of different options. Ambience was really upscale and pleasant! Drinks were well made with a good variety of cocktails! Highly recommend! Thank you Olive and the upland team for an amazing experience.

Food - butter and bread was yummy; branzino was delicious and they were able to split in two which we appreciated. Limincello cake was good Service - attentive and it was the perfect pace. However, I did notice our waiter offering the table next to us recommendations but didn't do the same for us Ambiance - it was a Thursday evening so it was a bit noisy. Decor was simple but felt cozy

Pretty resto for brunch. Managed to snag bar seats for walk in. Beef tartare was on the sour side and not the best I've had but portion size was decent for tartare. Lobster cavatelli was pretty good, perfectly cooked pasta and luscious sauce The eggs were also pretty good. Warm and comforting as one may expect. Overall, pretty good. Nice ambience and service was good.

Food was delicious as well as dessert. Service was excellent. Restaurant is really pretty. Cocktails were good-- not very strong though. Ambiance is upscale. Recommend the roasted chicken and the brussel sprouts and veggies with ricotta. The nutter butter dessert was really good. Great for a fancy date or birthday dinner.

I am so happy I was able to try this restaurant. I went to @upland_nyc and all the food and desserts were amazing. The margarita pizza was unbelievably delicious. The little gem salad as a starter was light and a great addition to the night. I also got the pappardelle and the rigatoni pasta which were cooked to perfection with the freshest ingredients and a tasty bolognese. To add on, I got the roasted beef short rib and it was to die for! To finish off the night, I got the peanut butter oatmeal cookie, the chocolate layer mousse cake, and the burnt cheesecake which were each remarkable in so many different ways! -@bellieeats

I was visiting my daughter for the weekend in NY and she suggested we came here for lunch. It's pretty cozy. The service was good as well, we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Now for the food! We ordered the Caesar salad and the steak tartare for appetizers, they were both pretty good. However, the Caesar salad had sardines in it? I didn't mind it too much since the dressing made up for the fishy taste... But I've never had a Caesar salad with sardines, not bad but I would prefer to go without it. My daughter loves a good Caesar salad but refused to eat it because of the sardines in it. The steak tartare was delicious and very fresh! We ordered the steak and eggs and the cacio e Pepe, both entrees were pretty decent. My daughter enjoyed her steak and eggs, I loved my cacio e Pepe. For desert she got the chocolate fudge cake, it was pretty good if you love chocolate. I had the limoncello olive cake and absolutely loved it, it was fresh and sweet without being too tart. I'd come back here for sure!

Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. The host came across as indifferent / borderline rude, which set the tone from the start. During dinner, when our second round of drinks arrived, the server seemed unsure where they belonged~even though the original glasses were still clearly on the table. The food itself was fine. The standout dish was the lamb tartare, which was excellent, and to be fair, everyone's meat was cooked exactly as requested. Overall, it was an okay meal, but based on our experience, it didn't quite match the level of praise suggested by the reviews.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). We sat upstairs (we had a reservation) and of all the people on the top there was a party of 4 (us), a party of 8 (all dudes celebrating something) and the rest of the tables were on a DATE - which I thought was funny. Service: We were served by Ann-Marie who was so delightful. She was kind, super nice, and took the time to speak to us (which is basically how we figured out she wasn't a native New York City person). She gave us good food suggestions and we were very happy with our selection. Food: Here is what we ordered * Steak Frites: My two boys got the steak frites and I have to say the steak was awesome! I had a bite of each of theirs and they each ordered it differently (one Medium Rare/Medium and one Medium) and they both were prepared PERFECTLY. The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. I wouldn't get this if you are looking for taste. I had to put salt and pepper on it to make it have any semblance of taste. Value/Price: I would say this is not over priced but it is not cheap either...bill is attached. I would recommend it to folks who are looking for a good place to either go out on a date or a family type meal.

We reserved for a quick bite at Redeye Grill before catching Dog Day Afternoon on Broadway, but as soon as we walked up, some bouncer told us they were closed for a private wedding reception. We were dazed and confused because how was I able to reserve online? But the real plot twist was that it ended up being the best thing that happened. We actually stumbled into Tanner Smith's thinking it'd be the typical, boring bar-food spot. Nope. They first sat us at a hi-top by the door, but that wasn't our vibe, so we grabbed seats at the bar instead. Best decision. Our bartender, Josiah, was absolutely killing it. My cocktail had passion fruit, so of course I asked my usual question: "But is it real passion fruit?" He just nodded in agreement and that told me everything I needed to know. That drink was legit and had nice strength. The food was great too. My fish tacos were packed with fresh fish, the guacamole and salsa were chunky and full of flavor and hubs enjoyed his pastrami sandwich. The shepherd's pie is insanely salty and it's very off-putting. It was inedible. I was looking forward to having it but I would not in good faith recommend this to anyone. The buttermilk tenders is supposed to come with pickled shallots and marinated green beans. We didn't get the pickled shallots or the marinated green beans, which was a shame. The chicken tenders by themselves didn't have much flavor. It also is unfortunate paying $17 for what was considered a small plate and just getting the chicken tenders. The Asian-sesame wings were okay. Also, didn't have much flavor and weren't that impressive. There was also still hair on some of the pieces of chicken, so the chicken could have been cleaned better. They have fries and hand cut fries. The regular fries were soggy. Should have went with the hand cut fries. The tater tots were okay. I was told that the chicken sandwich was good. It came with a little side of rustic chips. I would not come back for the food but I would possibly go back to try a drink if I was in the area. The drink menu looked pretty good.

The bread was fluffy and not dry, which I had seen previous reviews say before. Paired with the creamy truffle butter, it had a luxurious mouthfeel. My favorite was the pork chop (cognac, sweet prunes, bacon, rosemary) -- the sweet and soft texture of the prune was melted in my mouth like fat, and the pork was tender, with the rosemary also coming through. The vodka rigatoni was a skip, somewhat bland and one-note, we ended up putting some of the truffle butter and garlic aioli from the fries to make it more flavorful. This was especially in contrast with the spicy shrimp pasta which was much tastier. Also got the strawberry vacherin (strawberry ice cream, meringue, vanilla whipped cream), it was my first time having this dessert. The tartness of the strawberry was great with the fluffy meringue and the sweet ice cream. Service was extremely attentive, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated with moody lighting. I got: - Truffle Monkey Bread ($34.99) - Prime Rib French Dip ($39.99) - Pommes Frites ($13.99) - Banana Split Sundae ($24.99) I thought the prices were definitely on the higher end when I first sat down, but the Truffle Monkey Bread is divine! Honestly, it's probably in my top 3 bread experiences of my life. If you love truffle, butter, cheese, and basically everything good in life, please get this. It comes out slightly warm and is just incredible. I will probably dream about this bread. The French Dip was good, although it was a little too salty for me. If I get the chance to come back, I'd probably try one of their actual steaks instead. The pommes frites were super crispy, basically McDonald's fries but elevated. The Banana Split Sundae was so pretty. I loved how they placed all the little treats around the crevices/imprints of the dish (not sure how else to describe it ). It's huge, though, so definitely don't expect to finish it yourself. I'd recommend sharing it with 3+ people. I was also celebrating an anniversary, and they brought out a strawberry scoop for us. It tasted homemade and really fresh. I could actually see pieces of strawberry in it, which I loved. The restaurant is definitely on the pricier side, and getting a dinner reservation can be a struggle, but I'd absolutely go again if I got the chance. The decor is cozy and upscale, the food was excellent, and the whole place has a really nice atmosphere. My only real complaint was that our waitress kept pushing us to order more, which got a little annoying, especially since we had already ordered quite a bit. Overall: expensive + difficult reservation, but absolutely worth trying. And please get the truffle monkey bread.

The hostess was welcoming, our waitress was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and the support staff kept everything running smoothly throughout the evening. We took several of our server's recommendations and were happy with every one. What we ordered: * Butter Service Garni * Dressed Big Rock Oysters * Yellowtail Crudo * Filet Mignon with Pommes Purée * Nutella Opéra Cake Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly, the pommes purée were rich and incredibly smooth, and the Nutella Opéra Cake was the perfect way to end the meal. The only thing I'd mention is that the restrooms are located down a fairly long flight of stairs. If you're wearing heels, have a stroller, or have mobility limitations, it's something to be aware of. Overall, this was a fantastic experience with excellent food, attentive service, and a beautiful atmosphere. I'd gladly return and would recommend Quality Bistro to anyone looking for an upscale French dining experience.

We started with the kale salad (although it seemed more like spinach than kale), and it was still fresh and delicious. The tomato burrata was outstanding--definitely a must-order! I had the steak frites, which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the French onion burger, and after trying a bite, I already know that's what I'll be ordering next time--it was incredible! The cocktails were made perfectly, and to finish, we shared the lemon ice cream cake. It was light, refreshing, and not overly sweet--the perfect ending to a great meal. Everything from the food to the drinks and exceptional service made this a wonderful dining experience. We had such a great time and can't wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I was lead to this great spot for a late dinner and cocktails on a Friday night. The hostess was really friendly and quicky sat us at a two seater near the bar, which we appreciated. The ambiance was light and friendly and they even had a DJ playing all the good jams! I think I danced a bit, (definitely liquid courage). The DJ read the room and created a fun ambiance. The waitress came over a few minutes later and quickly took our drink and meal order. We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ( Yum), Guinness Wager Sliders (Nom Nom), Korean Chicken Boas (My Favorite!) and Carnitas Tacos.....I'm embarrassed to admit that we cleaned our plates like a couple of savages. Bartley Dunnes is a great choice to come solo, meet up with friends or come as a group of no more than 4, unless you make a reservation. They have a second floor that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out, so I can't write about that. However, I did see people coming and going straight up. I'll be back!

They have a great happy hour running from open until 8 PM, including $6 beers and $8 cocktails, which is a great deal for the area. ordered the Bartleys Spritz (Aperol Spritz) and a Tequila Mule. We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
