Minus one point for the ice tea that wasn't supposed to be sweet. The set up for the buffet was inviting. You walk through and serve potions you want. Of course, the crab legs were the most sought after. The salted ones look delicious. The boiled ones were just as appealing. Taste wise they were about the normal fare. Nothing amazing to them. I tried many items there but the sticky rice in the hot pot tins were amazing. I would advise to stay away from the ribs there. The crawdads were just miserable. We came here hoping for quality over quantity. The place itself is large--definitely outdated--but it looked decent enough, and the staff was kind and welcoming. It also wasn't very busy, so we wanted to give it a fair shot. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill fast once we sat down to eat. The sweet-and-sour soup was extremely oily and had an off taste. More concerning, nearly all of the food on the buffet was cold. The only thing remotely warm was the soup. When we brought it up, the server explained they were transitioning between lunch and dinner and offered for us to wait while they replaced the food. I appreciate the offer, but that doesn't excuse having a buffet--especially with seafood, poultry, and meat--sitting out cold. That's not just unappetizing, it raises serious health concerns. If you were looking to eat crab legs, I will say this place is a steal, for $25 a person you can eat as much Alaskan crab legs, that your stomach desires. There are plenty of food options here I wouldn't say everything is top quality but for $25 including all you can eat crab I think that's a great bargain. They don't have a lot coming out all at once so you may have to wait or come back to see if it's been replenished. They do have sushi here, but I'll be quite honest, not the greatest quality . Plenty of Chinese food options from calms , oysters, fried fish , beef broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, basically if panda express has it you can get it here. Most of the Asian food is mediocre as I would still choose panda express if I had the option. Service is friendly, definitely a more upscale looking Asian buffet than most I have been to. They even allow customers to purchase a to go box. Golden Koi Buffet has usually been one of my most fave buffets when I'm down here in the Roseville area. But last time I was quite disappointed with the roast duck that was supposed to be included with the buffet at no extra cost. The rest of the foods like the wings and ribs were still fab. But I decided to give the place another try, since I'm down here on a work location with my crew, and I know one way to keep everybody happy is a buffet where everyone can just choose what they wanna eat. Well, OK, I just had to check out the duck and it was way better than it was last time. The dish at the buffet was all nicely put together and not all wrecked like last time. I was able to get a bunch of nice pieces to eat. Plus I loaded up on ribs. They have the best dang pork ribs here with a wonderful barbeque sauce. The service was the same efficient plate clearers, not much talk from them. My personal favorite selection has to be the huge prawns and oysters. Considering that the price is $29.99 on Saturday, those food selection made up for it! Came to Golden Koi for Christmas lunch with family and loved the variety of food for their Christmas feast buffet. It was $28.99 for adults, but $25.99 for seniors. They had whole steamed fish, crab, raw oysters, sushi, dim sum, soup, and variety of desserts. The sashimi was delicious, especially the salmon and white tuna. I added one extra star for the service since the staff have always been pleasant when I've come here but the food quality of this place has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY worse over the years. There's usually the expectation that you're coming for quantity over quality when you come into a buffet restaurant but, given the price, Golden Koi isn't worth it anymore when there's so many other better options in the area now. They may be more expensive but the food quality has gotten so bad at Golden Koi that I'd rather just spend the extra $5-10 for better AYCE. It's going to be expensive either way. Also, for some reason, all the grill orders keep being mixed together. My family and I all got separate plates but everything was mixed together, making the point of getting our own separate orders pointless. Servers brought a generous serving of crab to our table We paid the per person fee and wanted to take the uneaten crab home but we told we had to pay " extra" per pound to take the uneaten crab home. We said we already paid for the crab (the price was included in the buffet w/crab fee) so why should we pay "extra" to take the uneaten portion of crab home - this would be DOUBLE CHARGING for the same item ! Plus we didn't select the amount of crab that was put on our table - their waitress determined the amount put on our table, not us. Rather than pay a per pound fee to take the uneaten portion of crab home, we left the crab at the restaurant (they had to toss it since they cannot legally serve it again - such a waste and such an inflexible policy stacked against customers. Update after last year's 5-star review. Along with everything else, they've increased price for adult dinner an extra $7 bucks or so since. Nothing was added or improved except for a Ramen Bar that was somewhat unappealling. They didn't bother to at least include a drink with price. Peak Saturday dinner hours reduced to 50% of previous customers (maybe less) resulting to much slower food consumption causing dishes to turn stale and dry. Eureka! We found our go to local buffet that serves snow crab legs for dinner and all day for holidays! For me, this is an AYCE buffet - not a fine dining restaurant with specialties and superior customer service. I'm here to eat, satisfy my inner McFatty, and leave happy with a food coma. That's exactly what we experienced when we finally decided to give this spot a try. Don't let the low ratings deter you from trying Golden Koi Buffet - everyone has their own personal preferences! The food was hot, excellent, delicious, and fulfilling. We especially loved their snow crab legs, freshly grilled mackerel and oysters topped off with tons of garlic sauce (just thinking about it is making my mouth water), wide selection of food, and awesome option to either have soft serve ice cream in-house or small ice cream cups to go! We were so pleased to see that we didn't have to wait long for crab legs refills... they were way more prompt with refills compared to many other buffets we've experienced! Fried rice had excellent texture (not dry), sushi selection is limited but is certainly enough to satisfy your cravings. Crab legs were a tad on the salty side, so try to even it out with their melted butter and slather it with a squeeze of lemon. They can provide crab leg crackers upon request. For the freshly grilled food section (e.g., raw oysters, raw mackerel, raw beef, noodles, etc.), just plop your food on a place and place it next to the grilling section out in the open. For the oysters, chef will automatically top them off with a scoop of minced garlic. Pure deliciousness! Stick around a bit to make sure the chef acknowledges your plate and places it on the grill. No need to wait - chef will ring a bell when food items are done so you can walk around to gather more scrumptious food or even sit at your table for a few minutes before checking again. Plenty of parking out front, spacious tables and seating arrangements, clean bathrooms and serving stations, cozy and comfortable ambiance for gatherings with friend and family or solo of course, and, although we don't expect superior customer service at buffets, we were quite surprised with their friendly and attentive staff. Coming from a recent SoCal resident now permanent in Roseville, this was a pleasant adjustment. $24.99 for dinner. Kids 5 and below (or below 5? Don't quote me on this) are free, including their drinks. Just be sure to check your receipt for accuracy as we identified 5 lemonades charged but truly only ordered 1 lemonade drink for an adult (lemonade for our toddlers but again - free food and drinks for 5 and below!). We compared this to the buffet out in Folsom (and our favorite one down in SoCal) and, thankfully, this one was more to our liking and much closer to Blue Oaks area. Overall, we're extremely grateful this buffet is close to home and has everything we were hoping to find at a local Asian buffet! Highly recommended for patrons near and far. We have two other bargain buffets on our list, which serves similar food, and similar price. The other two are both in Citrus Heights. Of the three, Golden Koi used to be our favorite. Unfair AYCE policy -we were forced to order and pay for two dinners w/crab legs because there were two in our party . I am not a crab leg eater but my partner is so I wanted to accommodate her and agreed to paying for two senior dinners . We tried to take those legs home since we already paid for them but were told we would have to pay for them again!! We didn't want as many legs as they brought us originally. As seniors we have limited appetites. The other items on the buffet were only marginal in taste and quality. We argued with the staff and ultimately left those leftover legs. Hope those legs weren't brought out and served again to other guests. Overall unpleasant experience and overcharged for the food we consumed. The one star is for the broccoli beef and chow mein, which weren't bad. This place gives ghetto, you wouldn't guess it because of the area and it actually looks nice on the outside. It doesn't seem very sanitary, the section we sat at you have to cross in front of the bathrooms to get back to your seat, I hated that. I just smelled the bathroom freshener every time I passed with a plate it was gross. We came for AYCE Crab legs and as sad as this is to say, it just wasn't worth it... not even for the 25 dollars. They don't steam them well so they're inconsistently cooked some cold some warm but none that are HOT. The seafood was the highlight for most people with crab and mussels. They do keep the sushi coming fresh. Desserts were horrible cookies looked like store bought and hard not fresh. The restaurant itself is not super clean but it's doable if you are hungry and don't look around much. I also don't really appreciate the fish mating in the tank :/ There is always chew main on floors under table whitch I get is accident, but my grand mummy could slipped.
