My wife had lunch at Mia Restaurant & Bar with some friends and brought home the short ribs and cheesecake. I've ordered short ribs plenty of times before, so I thought, "Okay, here's another order of short ribs." I was wrong. We went to Mia Restaurant today and honestly it was such a good experience. The vibe is really nice--very modern with the colors and seating, but still feels comfortable and not over the top. Service was great too, everything just flowed really well. We're all vegetarian, so I was actually really happy with how many veg options they had (a lot of Italian places around here don't). For apps, we got the truffle bruschetta and the burrata. Only thing is, I thought the burrata would come as a full ball, but it was on toast pieces but pretty similar to the bruschetta. Looking back, we probably would've just ordered one. For mains, we kind of went all in on truffle...truffle risotto, truffle ravioli, plus a margherita pizza and fries. And honestly, some of the best truffle we've had in the Sacramento area. Everything was really flavorful and just done right, no complaints at all. For dessert, we got the Mia Dream and the San Sebastián cheesecake. The Mia Dream was actually a dream. The cheesecake was good too, but honestly we could've passed on it. I came here for my birthday, and it was nice that it wasn't busy, so we were able to relax and enjoy our meal. The service was good, and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, especially after moving into the former Q1227 location. The food was good, but personally I prefer their sister restaurant, Pera Mezza, as I think the flavors are a bit better there. Drinks: The pomegranate martini, Prosecco rosé, and lemonade were all a hit with the family. Appetizer: The arugula salad was another favorite, and my wife and daughter were able to share it comfortably. One small issue our son-in-law's smoked whiskey wasn't delivered with everyone else's drinks, but my wife mentioned it to the waiter, and he quickly followed up and brought it out. Isabell, our waitress, was an absolute gem -- so sweet, attentive, and kind throughout the evening. Last time I wrote a review they had just opened. Walking in you get greeted by the wonderful staff . Everyone is very attentive here I mean they go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. I had that experience the first time I came here and also the last nothing has changed. The inside is beautiful and elegant. They have a nice bar area . They have an amazing kids menu my son got the kids burger and fries the burger was delicious it comes as two sliders perfect size . Then after we had about 10 min to look over the menu, no one was around to take our drink order. Same thing with the food. It was a Wednesday evening - there was practically no one there. The wine was good. Kids menu is small but luckily they had one. The food was decent. I had a Caesar salad that was good & the mushroom ravioli, I added salmon to it. It was nicely cooked and flavorful, I wish there had been a bit more sauce. I also wish they would have had the lobster ravioli. Hubs had the cioppino. Basically a bunch of seafood in a tomato bisque. He really enjoyed it. Our friend ordered the grilled salmon, she said it was good. The desserts were good. Affogato was good. Cheesecake was a big slice - I didn't care for the chocolate it came with, luckily it was on the side. The chocolate cake/brownie dessert was good, very rich. The pavlova was great - doesn't save well however. The chocolate martini, don't waste the calories, it tasted like milk with vodka. Meh. The appetizers lacked flavor, extremely bland. The appetizers we ordered were calamari and caesar salad, the salad dressing was more like mayo, than caesar dressing. Our entrees were chicken tenders and fries for my children not pictured, the chicken was cooked really well, but also lacking flavor wise. And the adults ordered skirt steak that was very flavorful, and cooked to perfection, and salmon that was cooked perfectly with a crisp outer crust, yet tender and juicy still. We also had mashed potatoes and vegetables that came with our entrees, the flavor was definitely there, with these plates, but my spinach was extremely oily, and made my stomach upset. This is a cute gem of a restaurant. I am happy they were taking walk-in's the time I came. Firstly the restaurants GORGEOUS, it's very minimal but with a plant aesthetics. The light fixtures and the women's bathroom were really cool too. There are pink feathers everywhere on the ceiling in there! The service was great, the host was not as attentive in the beginning but she started to come around more and asked if things were great and if we wanted anything else. The food was pretty solid as well as the drinks! There's some good choices on the menu to choose from. Place is very family friendly! First time visiting. The Maravillosa cocktail was so good. A tequila based drink with passion fruit, citrus, habanero and tajin rimmed glass. We got a couple of cocktails, the seafood pizza, lamb shank, and ribeye. The sapphire cocktail was sweet and beautiful in the diamond shaped glass. The lamb shank was fall off the bone good and paired wonderfully with the mushroom risotto. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and juicy. The seafood pizza was a little bit of a let down. The crust was soggy and not as unique as I thought. We also got the basque cheesecake for dessert paired with a dark chocolate syrup. It was probably my favorite cheesecake in long time. It was creamy and decadent and the chocolate elevated it even more. They also offer complimentary bread upon request. Service was fantastic. The staff are attentive without being overbearing. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because we made reservations for 7:30 and were not seated until 8. That being said, if we hadn't had to sit at the bar for 30 minutes we would not have met one of the best bartenders I've met in a long time. Igor (hope I have the spelling right) was amazing and a true artist when it comes to making drinks. I don't drink alcohol anymore, but the "Igor mocktail" he made was fantastic. My wife had a "Ruby" which looked amazing and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Igor was constantly checking on our reservation and even offered for us to stay at the bar since it did the full menu. When we got seated our server Marco was equally gracious and had some great recommendations. Our appetizers were chicken teriyaki and calamari, with our mains being the lobster ravioli and the sea bass. Both were really well prepared and plated nicely. Took some out of town family here for a dinner before they left. We each ordered a pasta dish and calamari for the table. Everything was delicious and my portion was HUGE. I ate what I could and gave the rest to my family to share. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the beef was tender. There are many spots in the restaurant to take cute photos. It wasn't loud at all which was nice because I took my baby with us. I removed a star only because the service could have been better if they checked on us more. Water was constantly refilled as well. Onto the food now... We started with the octopus carpaccio and burrata. The carpaccio was visually appealing, but needed more flavor. I preferred the burrata. The seabass - excellent with a slight crust to the ended made it just perfect for me. Seafood linguine - a big portion that really hit the spot. Came here on Mother's Day so I definitely don't recommend doing that. We had a 2:15pm reservations but still waited 20 minutes until seated we could be seated. And that's WITH a reservation. The food was average but pricey and the service soooo slow. The drinks come in tiny cups, the food in tiny bowls. All we ordered really were apps and salads and that took over an hour. Showed up at 2:15pm and left at 4:20pm for reference to how long lunch was. Here's some ratings on things we ate... Bread bowl - super good and olive oil is great 5/5 House salad - way over dressed and soggy but the dressing is very tasty, just too much. 3/5 Mango salad - 3/5 - just wouldn't ever order again. Mashed potatoes - great flavor but cold 4/5 Burrata - 5/5 Bathroom was nice but out of toilet paper and paper towels. Messed up on the tab and almost paid for a $72 bottle of wine we never ordered. Accidents happen of course and it was fixed but almost paid without looking, so be sure to check. The waitress was apologetic on the way out but even if everything weren't so slow and if it wasn't a Mother's Day, I still don't think I'd come back here.. what you get for the prices they charge is not worth it. read more
