Hard to describe the Pizza Rossa with added Burrata. The pizza is fresh out of the oven. Thin crust, but not crispy. It's hot, saucy, and just the right amount of chili where you take a bite and say "oh yeah, I forgot there was chili on here. I like it!" But the magic comes from the burrata. It's cool--a total contrast to the pizza. Cut the burrata and spread the cheese around a bit; it's silky so you should get a nice streak onto each slice. A bite of this pizza was unlike anything I've had before, it was wonderful. The warm chewy dough drenched in sauce paired so so nicely with the cold cheese. I'd return just for this. My partner and I sat at the bar, with a last minute reservation. The place is small and packed. It was early enough where there was still plenty of natural light. Lots of couples on dates but also a few families old and young. Service was prompt, pizza took no more than 20 minutes to prepare. We also ordered an arugula salad that comes with a generous amount of Pecorino or Parmesan cheese, freshly grated. I thought it was a bit too lemony and too peppery for my taste so I'd skip it next time. The other pizza we ordered, the Margherita Del Leone was simply not as good as the Pizza Rossa. It was fine. The dough really made it what it was but there wasn't enough sauce and the cheese was too melted to get the full flavor so a few minutes out it tasted more rubbery than anything else. I'd skip it. In the end we ordered the salad, two pizzas, and two drinks and the bill was exactly $99 plus tax and tip so closer to ~$130.

One of the more recent additions to Brooklyn's competitive pizza scene, Il Leone offers fairly traditional Neapolitan pies with a pronounced chew and deep crust. I understand they originated in Maine, as evidenced by the inclusion of a lobster pizza on the menu. While I quite enjoyed the dough, I found most of the toppings rather underwhelming. The pizza rosso had SO much oregano that it might have been worth including in the pizza's name. And the bianca pie was topped with hefty chunks of asparagus that still had a slight raw taste and texture. Ultimately, the straightforward margherita leone was the best pie of the night and did the best job of showcasing the dough.

Heard nothing but good things about this place and was excited to try it. I've been to Peak's Island but I never tried pizza there, so happy to confirm the place is legit -- I'll have to try it out in Maine over the summer as well. Nice experience here, friendly staff that runs a tight ship and moves folks along as needed. It's tiny so you can't have an indulgent three hour dinner here, be warned. Nice wine list, a little less in way of cocktails but perfectly acceptable variety of Spritzes and Negronis and Martinits. We got the meatball appetizer which was nice. Big almost fluffy meatballs that felt satisfying and didn't feel heavy. Then we got the Margherita pizza and the Lobster Pizza cause duh. The Marg was solid, the dough is particularly chewy in a really nice way though it loses integrity in the middle and becomes very wet as it thins out. The flavor was lovely though. The lobster pizza gives you an impressive amount of lobster (a whole claw even on one slice!) and has no cheese so everything really slides off it immediately. The sauce is different too, a little sharper and deeper than your typical pizza. Overall very tasty, didn't drown out the lobster flavor which is always what happens with these things. All in all, this would be truly excellent pizza for Portland Maine, but I'm not sure if it stands out particularly in New York City. That said, it was very tasty and for Park Slope it's not a bad little date spot.

Cute place, good service. The sauces are exceptional, flavorful, aromatic. But overall the food is good but not memorable. The meatball appetizer was good, the pizza dough was nice but did get quite soggy.

We were really excited to try out Il Leone and were happy to snag an earlier reservation. The staff was super accommodating and welcoming with our toddler. Really dark and intimate lighting that would make it great for date night. We shared the burrata and the lobster pie. Love me some bread and cheese so this was tasty. The lobster pizza came at a heavy price. I don't think I would go back for this pie but would try others. Ultimately I thought the pizza way too thin for how heavy the lobster was. We also got the gelato which I really wouldn't call gelato but ice cream but still really solid.

Il Leone is a fantastic new addition to the neighborhood! Dined there last night and it was such a treat. As someone who visits Maine often, I had to order the Isola pizza with Maine lobster, San Marzano tomato sauce, white wine, garlic, basil, chili, and parsley. It was incredible! They did not skimp on the lobster, and it was so delicate and fresh I felt transported to the coast. We also tried the Diavola, and the dough on both pizzas was incredible, probably thanks to their sourdough starter. The bartender helped us pick a wine, and it was a perfect match. The wine list leans into producers from Campania, the birthplace of pizza, which I love. Can't wait to come back to try more pies and dive into the appetizers next time!

This is a great pizza place with a casual but cool atmosphere. Although it's low key, it's also a great date place because it has nice lighting and candles. Every dish is thoughtful and uses fresh ingredients. I had a nice salad and fried artichokes to start and shared a pizza. Great wine selection too! Did not try the gelato but the flavors sounded great. It's a small space, so get there early. I think when it's warmer they will open their back yard. Service was friendly and knowledgeable too. Excited for this new neighborhood spot!

It is definitely the best pizza in the US; I say this even after visiting Frank Pepe and Sally's in New Haven, and it's honestly not even close. On our last day before heading back to SF, we ordered a massive whole pie: half burrata, half pepperoni. It nailed the classic NYC slice with a thin, crisp crust and the perfect balance of cheese and sauce. It was so good that my daughter finished her burrata half over three separate sittings: at the shop, on the plane, and once she got home. The pie just kept calling to her! Be prepared for long lines, but it is worth it (and the Brooklyn location definitely has shorter lines than the Manhattan spots). It's not really a sit-down place, so you just have to grab a spot at the bar-top tables if you can find room. The service was good and fast. The cashier who took our order was amazing--absolutely love her--though she did forget to hand us our chocolate Bombolone. L'Industrie is a premier New York institution and busy for a reason: it is top-quality pizza!

We got a Tartufo slice and the gelato with olive oil and sea salt seasoning. Firstly, to all the people working there - kudos! They were doing a great job in managing the crowds with a tight space in insane heat - all that with a smile. Onto the food - I honestly preferred the gelato over the pizza. The pizza wasn't bad - but it wasn't great either. The gelato was perfect for a hot summer day -- the watermelon seasonal option was ideal for a hot summer day. Is the hype and price worth it? Personally, not entirely.

Situated at the corner of East 15th Street and Avenue J, the establishment was owned and managed by Domenico DeMarco (1936-2022), but now his family continues that legacy. Food critics and bloggers frequently rank it among the top pizzerias in New York City. Di Fara has received numerous accolades, including being named the "Best pizza in New York" by publications such as New York and Serious Eats. The New York Times described the restaurant as "one of the most acclaimed and sought-after pizza shops in New York City." In 2011, Zagat ranked it as the top pizza restaurant in the city, and in 2013, Frommer's called its pizza "the Best Hand-Made Pizza in New York City." Chef Anthony Bourdain also expressed admiration for the restaurant's pizza. I had long hoped to visit Di Fara, so I decided to make a trip from Connecticut. Upon entering, my son and I observed that it was quite busy. There is also a window for ordering, but we chose to go inside to order our food to experience the atmosphere fully. We each ordered a freshly prepared Sicilian slice. Unlike some places, there was no pre-made pizza on display. Each slice is made to order, and it takes about twenty-five minutes to prepare. When we received our pizza, it was notably greasy. The Sicilian slices resembled a full meal, topped with garlic and pepperoni. The garlic was quite prominent and flavorful, adding a nice punch which I liked. The pepperoni was crispy, and the undercarriage had a nice crunch, though it was also quite oily. In my personal opinion, it wasn't the best slice I've ever tasted. However, I understand that when the owner, Dom, was alive, the pizza was considered exceptional by many. I would rate it around 3.5 stars, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience pizza from one of New York's most iconic establishments.

I tried looking up this pizza from Target Richfield for a review, but it sent me to the NYC location, so forgive me if this review is in the wrong thread. Anyway, wow. I've been to New York City and ate at the original Joe's Pizza. What an epic slice of pizza. Now back home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the great white north of snow that never ends, I finally tried the frozen Di Fara pepperoni pizza from Target no less. Sorry Joe's, but this is on par with your pizza (if it was frozen). Dave Portnoy was right with his high review. This pizza is very good. The thick cut pepperoni, great basil, and the crisp chewy crust was excellent for a frozen pizza. Nice under carriage as well. I cooked the pizza at 480 degrees in an electric pizza oven for 10 minutes, and the result was very good. I added a drizzle of hot honey, and it was spectacular (okay, I also added some fresh picked jalapeños as well). The pizza was hot and melted in the center, and the crust was very crisp, but still had some chew. Wow. This was the best frozen pizza I have had. Bar none. New York, you spoiled me when it came to pizza. Now I can get a taste of New York at home. Great job! I may or may not eat the last 3 pieces currently sitting in the fridge before bed.

Fresh mozzarella, a nicely thin crisped crust, sweet tomato sauce, and fresh basil makes this simple pizza taste great. The fried calamari also impressed. It tasted notably fresh--light, clean, and not overly chewy like pre-frozen versions can sometimes be. While I can't say for certain, it had that just-prepared quality that makes a difference. The Caprese salad was a great way to start the meal, with fresh tomatoes, creamy burrata, and a balsamic drizzle was a nice light start. The atmosphere leans old-school Italian, which adds to the charm and character. Service was fine--nothing remarkable, but no major issues either. That said, my overall rating takes a big hit solely for the restaurants ridiculous tipping policy choices rather than the food itself. The automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill was frustrating. The menu does indicate that 18%, will automatically apply, or will be 20% for parties of six or more. We were only three people, so it felt inconsistent and unnecessary. On top of that, the added cost for credit card usage didn't help. I don't mind tipping for good service! In fact, I tip well--but I prefer having the choice and I'm old school so it's the principle of the matter. Being forced into it, takes away from an otherwise enjoyable meal. Bottom line: the food is strong and worth trying, but the billing practices leave a bad taste. If those were adjusted, this could easily be a higher-rated experience.
