The food was the highlight. We started with a Caesar salad, fried calamari, burrata and prosciutto, and mozzarella Caprese for the table. The appetizers were delicious and perfectly prepared. After finishing our starters, we ordered Linguine and White Clam Sauce, Branzino, Pollo Murphy and Shrimp Fra Diablo. Each meal was perfectly seasoned and were generously portioned. The Pollo Murphy was massive with plenty to eat at the restaurant and plenty to take home. I was visiting from New York however my friends who live near Madison New Jersey will now make this a regular restaurant in their rotation.

I think Il Mondo Vecchio loosely translated means The Old World... I think a more suitable translation would be The Rude Obnoxious World. About 3 months ago, I went with my partner, my brother and sister-in-law. Nancy, the RUDE hostess, was all in our business trying to figure out who was with who. She even went so far as to ask my sister-in-law which of us 3 men she was with. Can you imagine? Why was it so important to her. I made a point of letting her know who was with who at the end of the evening and let's just say you could have driven a trunk through her open mouth. Food at that time was acceptable so I brushed off her rudeness as ignorance and stupidity and decided that we would give this place another try when our Mother's birthday came around. Oh boy -- what a mistake!! We were a party of 12 and they sat us at 2 separate tables next to each other! When we asked to put the tables together so we could celebrate as a family we were denied. John, our server (I am being generous with the title) was surly, rude and condescending the entire evening. He seemed annoyed at any questions and was rushing as along. Not sure if he felt annoyed by such a big party or what his reason was but it was inexcusable. We placed our orders after some discussion. When we asked for more bread, we were told they would have to check. They finally came with more bread. We asked for Parmesan cheese (any one who has been here knows they give it to each table as an antipasti along with olives), we were told they would have to charge us for it!!! We did not care but did not understand why. (they wound up not charging) We asked for more bread (we were a party of 12 with 3 kids), we were told they were out (this was at 6 PM on a Saturday night), when I expressed my surprise and shock more bread appeared. Appetizers were good (had to send back an order of clams due to the amount of sand and grit) and entrees were acceptable. Complaints about entrees: someone ordered a shrimp dish and it came with mozzarella though nothing was said on the menu about cheese on the dish. We ordered a pasta and chicken to split among the 3 kids. We purposely asked if it was a chicken cutlet, we agreed to have that and some linguine. They decided to give the kids chicken francese. When we made a comment, John being the delight he was, insisted loudly that he had advised us that this was what they had to offer. They than had the gaul to charge $42 for 3 small pieces of chicken and linguine. I live in Brooklyn and dine extensively in NYC as does most of my family but we were all appalled by the pricing of that dish. In conclusion, with all the restaurant choices and ways to spend your money, I beg and implore you to not patronize this rude and sub-par place. read more

Il Mondo Vecchio is my all time favorite restaurant. My husband and I always try new restaurants but none come close to the experience of Il Mondo Vecchio. First let me say the food is exquisite. The food is always consistent whether you come on the weekend or during the week. Always consistently delicious. Even the bread is amazing. The appetizers are so creative and lovely it is hard to decide on one. But do try the Porcini Ravioli or the Scallop appetizer, unbelievably good. And the deserts, fabulous! Also important to me is the ambiance which always completes a wonderful dining experience and is becoming rare in many restaurants today. I love the dining room. And most importantly, the Warm and Gracious Welcome you receive from the hostess Nancy and owner Marco making you want to come back again and again. The servers are professional and offer impeccable service. We have met John and Michael both genuinely gracious, offering great recommendations especially helpful to accommodate food allergies and designing superb dishes to meet our needs. Coming from Europe and having travelled and lived in many places all over the world, finding such authentic Italian food was a very pleasant surprise. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. The interior feels cosy and original decor details add to it. The service was great too. Even though it was a very busy time all the food came out quickly, the table was clean and the waiters were cheerful. The best of course was the quality of food. We ordered quite a few dishes. The portions are large enough to share. Apart from being fresh, what was quite special is that the taste, consistency and textures were very well-balanced, which is not easy to achieve in Italian cuisine. Hosted a group of 32 coworkers for a business dinner. Nancy and the entire staff at the restaurant was outstanding. Everything was ready for us even though we started arriving 30 min early. The wine, delivered directly the restaurant by Gary's was chilled, bottles placed on the tables and the servers were ready to pour when we arrived. All of our requests were met promptly, including seconds for the bruschetta appetizer, which was so delicious! We had more than enough food? The menu selection had something for everyone. The price fix menu for our group worked perfectly and the B.Y.O. option allowed us to stay within our corporate per person budget. My group raved about the food and the setting. It's sad to see such horrible reviews that seem ludicrous compared to my experience at Mondo. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and upon entering all the staff seemed familiar with me one even said that she was excited to meet me and had heard all about me. With that said the service was outstanding. The hostess was kind and warm and our waiter was patient and attentive. The food was delicious as well. I had a salmon, the wait wasn't long yet the taste seemed like it took all day to make. My boyfriend surprised me with a cake (purchased elsewhere) and it was served with strawberries and chocolate sauce. Our bill came up to around $80 which I think was a steal for that day. read more

Il MondoVecchio in downtown Madison, NJ is a truly great dining experience. Not cheap, but worth the money. First thing I noticed was the Insalada Caprese actually has buffalo mozzarella, which is so hard to find in U.S. restaurants. The service is impeccable, but very friendly. Our server, Carlo, made us feel welcome. He rattled off all of the daily specials. Probably the hardest task is selecting items from the amazing menu. I came here with my wife on our trip to America and it was a fantastic experience. We started with the seared sea scallops and compliments to the chef they were delicious! For our dinner we ate lamb Toscana and the meat was cooked beautifully. And the owner gave us complimentary dessert with roasted bananas and gelato and my wife (who is pregnant) was in heaven!!! However, I did not like the construction of the dessert as it had only 1 layer of lady finger and another layer was replaced by a sponge cake. I would have preferred both layers to be ladyfingers for a better texture and flavor. I would also like more mascarpone layers instead of a layer of cream on the top. This just tells me they are trying to save on the cost by cutting the corners with the ingredient replacements. Our server was friendly and the service was super quick. There is also a valet parking available which was very convenient it may not be easy to find street parking especially on weekends. Overall, Ristorante MV is a cute little restaurant that's a good option for date nights serving Italian cuisine with fresh ingredients and balanced flavor. I do find it to be quite pricy for what you get and also the location. I initially was looking at their special menu and was shocked to see 1 meat dish for $70-80. The tiramisu was also very small (one small tea cup size) for $15. There are definitely other options in the area so this may be a one time visit for me.

Perri is terrific -- welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. And the food is wonderful. Traditional Italian, absolutely delicious. It is a BYOB, so the prices are reasonable. I love fish, and Enzzo's is the best for that. I keep meaning to try the chicken dishes, but I'm usually too tempted by the Sea Bass or Salmon. You know the saying 'I've never had a bad meal here?' I've never had a good meal at Enzzo's; they've all been great.

Add to that a full bar with a few curated craft brews and a killer wine list and ladies & gentleman, we have a winner. A big winner. My only suggestion is to visit them now because when they open for real the place will be jammed.

We were here 6-7 years ago and had a similar experience. My wife of 29 years had a hard time refraining from creating a scene. She refuses to ever return, so I guess I'd need a divorce before I come again. Honestly, I can't think of a reason to return unless you like being abused!

Been here a few times now…read more In this area there is a plentitude of good Italian restaurants but this has to be among the best. As the name implies, its small. On a Saturday can be a bit tight, but it doesn't take away from the experience. The food is really outstanding. The spaghetti and meatballs is maybe the best around here. The chicken piccata is the best. Their apps - shrimp with beans, crab cakes all really good. The front of house is really very good too even when busy. And though I'm not a desert person, they have a coffee Gelato that is unbelievable. With all the choices for great Italian in this area this ranks in the top 3. Seriously that good.
