OMG!! ... It's been a long time since I had Italian food outside of a chain. This restaurant is located in the perfect corner in the heart of the town. It was very spacious and clean. It had a vintage/rustic Italian decor with some super laid back vibes. We had a friendly welcome and were sat right away. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I loved the warm bread they start you out with. The food was amazing and every single dish we ordered was delicious. I would give this place more stars if I could. I'm glad we made the decision to stop here for dinner on our last night on vacation. I enjoyed everything about his place. Normally my wife and I look forward to eating here, but today was a dud. Il Posto failed on both service and food quality today. Our server was far less than charming and worse, was incompetent. I truly wondered if she were somehow impaired. She didn't respond when we ordered and seemed put-out when we asked if she understood. Turned out the wine my wife ordered was no longer available (so why was it still on your menu?). My wife made an alternate order, but instead of getting a glass of what she ordered, the village idiot came back with a bottle totally unrelated to what my ordered and offered that. My wife politely refused, I got my beer and my wife got nothing. OK, maybe they needed to open a bottle and it would be out soon. But no. The so called server didn't reappear until our food was ready. At that point, my wife asked about her wine again. The waitress, Andrea, then said, "I thought you said no to wine". Well, my wife did finally get her wine after the fight. Now for the food. In the past, it has always been excellent. But today's offering was sub-standard. We both ordered the chicken Parmesan from the lunch menu. The menu said the chicken was hand breaded. It was not and the marinara was basically tomato sauce with with bits of tomato in it. By far the worst food we've ever been served there. Il Posto, today you failed miserably. And I would remind you that you have two restaurants on either side of you with excellent chefs. You may want to keep that in mind before serving us Stouffers to dine on. read more

Entering a cool, dark restaurant after walking for quite some time on a hot spring day was a joy in itself. We could not help but notice the gorgeous bar to the right as soon as we walked in as well as the beautiful woodwork. We were greeted immediately, and upon sitting, our drink order was taken. There is a full service bar, including beer on draft! My husband ordered the Lasagna Classico and I the Pomodoro with grilled chicken and angel hair pasta. Hot rolls and REAL butter were brought to the table almost as soon as we sat down followed by both entrees after about a fifteen minute wait. The entrees were steaming hot and fresh and after our first taste, declared delicious. The waitstaff was attentive and efficient. We ended the meal by sharing a piece of tiramisu, which was excellent as well. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS experience tonight. Placed an online order for 2 things, a pizza and slice of cake. I arrived 5 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. Everyone up front seemed very confused that I placed an order online, lost interest, and wandered off. FIFTEEN MINUTES later my order came out. I didn't check it. I live 45 minutes away and after I arrived home I discovered the pizza was topped with literally everything EXCEPT what I ordered. I couldn't even pick off the unwanted items due to a bell pepper allergy and the cook randomly chose to bake up the "Super Bell Pepper Fiesta" apparently. Not driving another 90 minutes round trip for you to try again. I contented myself to eat the slice of chocolate mousse cake..... which was impressively dried out and stale. YOU SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSED by that performance. Ridiculous. read more

I'm giving it 4 stars because my son liked it. If it were just me, I'd give it 3. Beautiful cute spot, don't get me wrong! The decor is adorable! The only real miss was the food for me. Expensive for Kerrville which is fine I'm expecting good food but was just a huge bowl that no single person should eat the whole thing in a single meal of bland Italian food. I got the bolognese and left 3/4 as just way too much food and also just bleh. My son did like his chicken Alfredo so that's a win tried a bite, happy he liked it. Finally dessert look, I only order tiramisu at what I thought was authentic Italian places. My son's dad ordered cheesecake (weirdo). So, the wait staff comes back out and states the cheesecake isn't ready because none was thawed... odd for a weekend lunch but okay. Which gets me nervous for my tiramisu. Sure enough, absolutely not made in house, let alone anywhere authentic. I'll try another Italian restaurant my next trip out there at this point. read more

My son and I were craving some Italian food/pasta so we thought we'd pop in and try Il Posto. We were glad we did!! Loved the old style of the interior...real wood floors, huge wood bar area, wood staircase to the upstairs seating area. It felt very old style hill country. Our waitress was training a new waitress and they were both very attentive to our needs while dining. My son ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese and I ordered the Linguini with lump crab from the lunch menu. After giving our order they returned with a basket of fresh bread. Oh. My. Goodness!!! The bread was divine!!! Nice crust with soft interior which I spread with some butter from the butter basket on the table. My son finished his spaghetti leaving nothing...clean plate club!!! I on the other hand had to package mine up to take home. They even gave us some bread to take with us for my leftover as well as for my husband to try too!! We finished it up with a shared plain cheesecake. It was just okay...I don't think it was made there. So we're giving it 5 stars. We will totally be back when we get to craving some Italian food!! Loved the interior, ambience, service, and food!! Would totally recommend to anyone craving some Italian. I imagine that it was more beautiful in the evening with soft lighting and the decor...most likely very romantic but I'm just guessing since I haven't been there in the evening. Only negative I can think of was I ordered an iced tea half sweet and half unsweet (I don't like syrupy sweet tea but just a little hint of sweet) and I received a sweet tea...so next time she could top it off I requested regular tea and it took out the syrupy sweetness. Horrible service. I made a reservation for my mom's last day of work and my confirmation was sent and confirmed. When we get there the host is very sassy saying I'm not on the list and that she didn't even go through the reservation lists for today, that's just sad. As a restaurant that's not okay. I've been here about 10 times, we live local. The food has always been really good, and we usually have a pleasant waiter/waitress. My only comment is that when they're busy, they struggle. So I try not to go during peak times because you will have to wait a long time to get greeted and you won't get refills on drinks. It doesn't stop me from going. read more

Fantastic Italian Dining Experience! We had a wonderful meal at Il Posto! To start, we had the bread with oil for dipping, and it was absolutely delicious--light, fluffy, and perfectly soft. The oil was so flavorful with just the right blend of seasonings that we even asked if they sold it by the bottle! For our main course, my husband and I both had the veal piccata, which wasn't on the menu but was available upon request. It was cooked to perfection, tender, and bursting with flavor. The dish came with a side of spinach and spaghetti, both of which complemented the veal beautifully. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere made for a perfect dining experience. Greetings Foodies, We are spending the weekend in the Hill Country visiting Comfort, Kerrville, and Fredericksburg. For dinner, we decided on Italian food. The restaurant is located in downtown Kerrville in a historical building which is nicely appointed and comfortable spacing between the tables. The restaurant also has nice bar. We ordered two pasta dishes, one in a white sauce (Chicken Asiago) and one a red sauce (Scarpsrelli) both were a appropriately portioned and seasoned with hot bread. For dessert, we ordered Tiramisu which did not have a heavy coffee flavor. Our waiter, Mario, was friendly and professional. I would ask for him again. Our total cost was $70.00 plus a tip of 20%. Must say that was a great price for dinner. Please remember, we live in a major city. Can't wait for our next food adventure at breakfast. read more

I want to start by saying, the food here is delicious. If that's the only thing you care about, then I recommend this restaurant. I have eaten here a dozen times at least. However, the last four times I have been waited on by the same waitress who obviously does not care if anyone comes here or not. She is not just unfriendly, she is downright rude and it ruins the experience. Until the situation with this waitress is corrected, I will not be going back and I know of many people who have said the same thing. This question goes to the restaurant: Is it worth it to keep this person and lose your customer base? Maybe she is someone's daughter. Whatever the reason she is still there, she is ruining your business. I have never, ever, been treated so unprofessionally and talked down to by a waitress in my life. She even let out a primal scream when we asked for separate checks. And we had made a reservation but were not on the list when we arrived. Apparently, this is a common problem here. read more

Wonderful dinner tonight at il Posto Italian Restaurant that once was an old opera house. My server Ceneth set me up at the bar while I looked over the menu. It was a difficult choice but I decided on the bread with their special dipping oil and the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. The bread is baked in-house and the dipping oil is homemade. This was the absolute BEST I've ever had...full of seasoning, garlic, and olive oil. The Rigatoni Alla Vodka is "delizioso"...perfectly cooked pasta and the sauce is rich, creamy, and flavored with bits of pancetta. I added a bit of red pepper flakes giving the dish a bit of a kick. The food was awesome!! Our server was not. She didn't speak to us at all, or clear our plates until she was bringing our food but made eye contact with us several times empty handed. We had to ask to order appetizers and hunt her down for refills. She almost ran into me trying to soothe my 20 mo son (if you know you know) with my back turned to her and she gave me the ugliest face when I turned around to her with two plates on my back??? And i said sorry?? She didnt say a word, just made ugly faces in our direction all dinner. Super unprofessional service. The rest of the staff seemed awesome and friendly. The host was incredible. There was an older gentleman busser and he was phenomenal. The place is beautiful, food was tasty, and surprisingly good prices. I just really didn't like our server. I love pizza more than life. The pizza here was meh (5/10). The flavor was good but I think (I could be wrong) it was cooked in a regular oven rather than a pizza oven which makes a huge difference. My wife and I celebrated our 57th anniversary there this past evening. She had the Veal Marsala, and I dined on the Herbed Butter Steak. Both excellent meals, and cooked to order. We have enjoyed Il Posto quite a bit since its opening last year. The food is consistently good. My 90 year old Mother and I went this afternoon for a mid afternoon meal. We were sitting at the table next to the phone where take out orders come in and I do not recommend that particular table. Not only could we hear that but also a manager reprimanding a server. I don't want to know a restaurant's business issues. The manager made a poor choice. Lastly, for the first time ever, both of my dishes were too salty. Very unusual. Mother's Eggplant Parmesan was perfect. Our waiter was very professional and, in fact, the young man who the manager fussed at had been very helpful too. (My Mom can be a tad demanding.) I think, though, that even when a restaurant isn't particularly busy, that professionalism from the staff is appreciated. Except for our waiter and the other young man, there was just a lot of chatter and casualness with the staff, especially one waitress who spoke as though there were no patrons in the establishment. The bread is made from scratch, but not much else is. Most everything else is from a box or a can. These are verified facts. Sadly, good servers are squashed by incredibly rude and truly neglectful management - who allow harassment of staff and do plenty of harassing of staff themselves. Il Posto Italian Restaurant at Kerrville's former Pampell's is a MUST try if you're ever exploring the Texas hill country. It's still as beautiful architecturally as I remember in my 20s. I had the daily special of salmon with a lemon caper sauce and cauliflower rice, Tuscan soup, and garlic basil olive oil for dipping. Their staple house bread is delicious. I would have preferred grilled broccolini than the cauliflower rice, but that's just a preference. My college besties had the chicken piccata and supreme pizza. Both of which I got to try, and both are also very good. For great parking, go close to opening. Early is better, I'm told. The evenings find this historical place packed again. Something about that, and seeing they kept the tiled entry with Pampell's name made me happy. In the 1880s, it was a hotel. Then, Pampell turned it into an ice cream parlor and confectionery. I recall the house milkshakes and soda fountain. This was one of our favorite places during our time at Schreiner. I, for one, look forward to going back to explore the menu. I'm told the Tuscan steak and pesto chicken are worth trying. read more

I've gotta say the building and interior has so much character. The bar is really nice as you walk in. We arrived about 11:30 for lunch. We were greeted and seated right away. I had my grandkids with me. I was happy they had high chairs. Service was good. The fresh bread was nice. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with the food. I may be wrong. I've always enjoyed the food at Il Posto and decided to treat my sister to lunch there on Friday 7/25. We were to meet at 11:45am and I was there waiting. A server asked if I would like something to drink while I waited and provided the tea. My sister was detained by a little over half an hour and shortly after her arrival, the server asked if we were ready to order or did we need a few more minutes. We said we needed a few more minutes and decided in 5 minutes what were to order. We waited and waited for the server to return (over 15 minutes) and spied her speaking to a couple against the wall. We tried and tried to get her attention but to no avail. I finally walked over to her and told her we were ready. She said she would be over as soon as she finished her lengthy conversation --about 7 more minutes! She finally made her appearance and we quickly gave her order and she berated us for making her wait so long at the beginning. As there were few people dining, there seemed to be no problem with me waiting as she never came over and and offered a tea refill. She was so rude and kept being insistent that we were the cause of her wait. My sister is gluten intolerant and asked if gluten-free pasta was available. The server took note and after a few more rude remarks, took our order. We looked at each other almost walked out. However, a different server came over with our orders--I had ordered a fish dish and he brought an eggplant dish. I asked the name of our first server and he said she was the manager. We were both flabbergasted to have been treated so rudely by a manager. When he took the wrong dish back it appeared that the rude manager disputed this being the wrong order. My sister was afraid to eat the pasta because she suspicious that it was not gluten-free and was regular. The male server was excellent and made sure and refilled and made sure everything was ok.
