Ordered the country fried steak with a salad and green beans. Let start with the salad: limp. Period. Cold plate notwithstanding the salad was obviously pre-plated that morning and refrigerated to a limp mess. Next the beans were the only thing edible on the plate. The steak was presented as a curled up, dried out hard overcooked mess. It had the appearance of pre-breaded by the box 1/4" thick shoe sole. Not impressed. They seated us, six, immediately. There weren't many patrons in the restaurant. Our server (Aniela, on the receipt) was very sweet, but the wait for our food was ridiculous. The food was fine but one friend said his steak was cold. The server did apologize for the wait. I chose to pay for the entire meal so we didn't waste anymore time splitting the check. I was surprised by the amount. I assumed it would be more expensive and thought perhaps they took an item or two off the ticket for the wait, but the price was for the full table's order. Was traveling and stopped by to get some yummy food. I ordered fried mushrooms as my appetizer and a glass of the local Cabernet. Both were very good so my hopes were high for my main. The salad was your normal house salad. Then came the steak and mashed potatoes. Both were so bad! No flavor and very tough meat. I took a few bites trying to find a good piece and then just set it aside. I then ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp add on for like 5.99. So freaking good!!! Looks like a new restaurant. We only get to Kerrville once a year but decided to give them a shot. The reviews were mixed but didn't stop us. It's a big restaurant and didn't seem to be an issue getting a table. The service is a little slow and our waitress was not very personable. We had a table of 5. Their prices are high. Honestly, it was overpriced. My chicken fried chicken was ok but didn't match what they charged. My wife's steak was good but once again they are over priced for the type of restaurant. The sides were ok but nothing impressive. Overall the food wasn't bad but I wouldn't come back based on those prices. We have been to 5D, a number of times. At first, the restaurant was beautiful inside and out. But, as the months went by, the wait staff was few. After we ordered, the kitchen staff couldn't get it right. Our food was not the top quality a steakhouse, should be. Noticed that, everyone else must have felt the same because the restaurant was never packed with hungry people. We went to the 5D Steakhouse in Kerrville for lunch (weekday), which was our first visit. The food was mediocre, at best. I ordered their Signature Dish, Salmon Oscar. The salmon, which was slightly overcooked, was served on a bed of wild rice and topped with asparagus that was so old the stalks were like hard plastic--stiff and not edible. The whole dish was smothered with crab hollandaise sauce, more like a plate of crab gravy than a serving sauce. Personally, I thought the crab hollandaise was a terrible recipe, and because my plate was drenched in it, my $26 lunch plate was basically inedible. There's something about this place. Not sure what, but it wasn't very comfortable. The service wasn't very good. The food was mediocre. We never received our appetizer, and when we mentioned it, they said they would "comp" it for us. We were there on a Monday night, so not many people there. Our ribeye, though not prime grade, could have been and was fantastic. The chicken fried steak was tender with yummy breading. our martinis were perfect and a good price. I hope the people in this area patronize 5D. They have an interesting story. Only complaints are trivia. The ranch vibe is nice but needs some softening textiles and better signage would help. Very worth a visit. read more

It's been open for 3 weeks now so things are moving pretty good. We had lunch on a week day and it wasn't crowded. The chicken fried chicken is not beaten flat like most cafes so a little harder to cut but very juicy and battered nicely. The house so salad is offered as a side and was very fresh with 1/2 a boiled egg. The garlic mashed potatoes were very good and the asparagus was grilled well. Steaks were very dry and flavorless , chicken fried steak was tough and the breading just fell off when you tried to cut through the meat. Very disappointing experience. Our waitress Darla is great, took our orders quickly and checked on us frequently during the evening. The steaks were nicely done, sides were also very good. If I could give this place a "0", I would. I was birding near Kerrville and had my hiking clothes on. I walked into the establishment as requested to see the menu. The hostess looked me up and down and just gave me a small menu insert and not the full menu. I asked if this was it and she condescendingly nodded yes. My wife and I decided to try the new 5D Steakhouse in Kerrville. Very impressive building, lots of room inside, and a very nice bar. Plenty of space between tables, so you don't feel like your eating with all the customers near you. I ordered the Pecan Crusted Chicken Breast and Beverly ordered the burger. My chicken breast was cooked well, the sauce was good, but the bed of rice was not cooked completely. Several "crunchy" pieces of rice, distracted from the sweet flavors of the meal. The one outstanding item was the grilled asparagus. I will go back just to get the asparagus. My wife's burger was good, cooked as ordered and was more than she could eat. The fries were crispy outside and soft on the inside. We had the Molten Chocolate Cake for dessert, not bad. Our waitress was attentive, repeated order back and did an overall good job. We were really looking forward to trying Kerrville's new steakhouse since Cowboys closed. What a disappointment. We were seated fairly quickly and given menus. After perusing the menu I decided on the 10 oz Ribeye. When we finally got our server back to take our order, I was told the 10 oz Ribeye was no longer available so if I wanted a Ribeye I would have to get the 16 oz. I ordered that cooked medium and it came out cooked perfectly. My wife ordered a sirloin cooked medium. When she got hers it was more a medium rare with a cool red inside and lots of blood. We sent it back for a little more cooking to get it to medium and 20 minutes later it came back gray and tasteless. Very disappointed in quality of service and the food for the high prices. We will NOT be returning. If I want a steak from now on, I will grill it myself. read more
