    Il Solito Breakfast
    Omari D.

Stay at the Kimpton included breakfast/brunch here, so I took advantage after a great fun night out with friends. It was pretty low-key and service was on the slower side, but I was in no rush & didn't mind. I did notice 2 other tables looking for 'any' server frequently which let me know what to possibly expect. As for my meal, I kept it simple and did a Mimosa, a side of Fruit and the Il Solito Breakfast with cheesy eggs. Easy choice and exactly what I was in the mood for. The fruit, that was the hit... I literally felt like it came straight from a garden. It was on the pricey side for breakfast, but the food was solid, and the vibe was relaxed, making it the overall experience I anticipated.

Tough review because the food was tasty but the service was less than stellar. We got free breakfast up to $30 per person. We ordered the short rib hash. It is a very good portion at $28. The food was really delicious, however, it feels like the food is reheated because the bottom pieces of meat were cooler than the others. The real issue was the service. The male servers were not attentive. We ordered coffee and orange juice but never got served it until we had to ask. The water pitcher was empty a few times and had to ask about refills. Then the next day we came back due to our free breakfast with IHG credit and the women servers were wonderful. Again food is great, but service is hit and miss!

Received my plate and everything was cold. My "toasted" English muffin didn't even melt my butter!

Just got my Il Solito breakfast plate so why are my potatoes cold? My English muffin was toasted, but why is it also cold and soggy? Chicken apple sausage is super dry and I needed a sip of my chai tea to swallow it down. My scrambled eggs are also cold. How long was my plate sitting on the counter? I have no idea why everything is not even warm. This was a free breakfast with my Chase Edit credit, but it's so not worth the 20% gratuity that you have to pay. Walk a couple of blocks and pay full price for a good meal anywhere else. Portland has many amazing restaurants so don't waste your time here just because you want to use your $30 breakfast credit.

Went to brunch here, but it was overall disappointing. The service was friendly, but the food was mediocre overall. The brioche French toast was good, but nothing special. The biscuits weren't really biscuits but the same brioche bread it seemed. The outside doors to the restaurant weren't even open, we had to come around a few times and knock. I think they rely mostly on breakfast customers from the attached hotel.

We stayed at the Kimpton Hotel upstairs, and came down here for breakfast during our stay. Brunch items on the menu were delicious, and waiters were nice and accommodating with my son's food allergies. The decor is modern hipster and I absolutely love their glass bottle Christmas tree.

The breakfast potatoes have to be the best I've ever add once you add some salt and pepper to them. If you like crispy potatoes this is where it's at. Service here was very good. I opted for the Caprese toast I never had it before. Mozzarella was very fresh. My wife really enjoyed her parfait. Will definitely return!

The servers were super nice at the restaurant. The food came out quickly and the eggs were cooked perfectly. There's big bright windows that let in a lot of light and provide a good view of downtown. Perfect convenient stop before hitting the road!

12/14/2023 - Drag'd to Dinner Holiday drag show! 2020 Toscana Banfi red blend with a tiramisu
    Mikhail H.

I have only been here twice including my recent visit. I never had a reason to not go. I was in the main space at a Christmas party eons ago that was wicked fancy so I just associated this with a fancy dinner. I then kept trying to go for back when we had Portland Dining Month since they always had a really tasty looking offering. Suddenly I see Drag'd to Dinner promoted to see a drag show and order some food and drinks here... sounded like a perfect happening for me to attend and catch up with a few friends for the holidays. The gorgeous Coco Jem Holiday was our hostess and we got treated to a fun line up of drag performers doing great Christmas songs. They had a delightful red blend my friend and I shared a bottle of though I grabbed an extra glass too! RJ was a truly amazing bartender and person and we were so happy that we were seated at the bar. Now let's get the real talk... Chef Casey made me an insanely delicious plate of pasta kissed with pesto, Parmigiano Reggiano, cherries and pork belly. I am still dreaming of this delicious dish and might need to pop in again for it praying it is still on the menu - I cleaned my plate and was in awe as to how perfect it was. I honestly had no idea they had a bar area and that was so great since it seems like a pretty formal restaurant but tucking in for a plate of pasta and glass (or three) of wine at the bar is a lovely way to hang out somewhere on a rainy Portland evening.

I almost always run away from hotel restaurants for several reasons. And even though we didn't stay here, I particularly see hotel restaurants as add-ons, have their own captive audience and, I've never had much luck with them. But on our last night in Portland while we visited our daughter during Labor Day weekend, we decided on a quiet, family dinner. There were some hits and misses at this nicely kept Kimpton Hotel restaurant. Yet, they welcomed us with open arms even when we arrived at a little past 9 for dinner when doors closed at 10. There are no restrooms here- so you'd have to go and walk through Kimpton Hotel and down the stairs to use 'em. Our server was skillful and memorized all of our beverages, appetizers and main plates without jotting anything down. Caesar salad for the three of us was scrumptious and wanted more. Their version of ciabatta 'garlic bread' had wonderful roasted garlic cloves and was oh so buttery. We wanted more. My daughter's Shrimp Scampi+seared scallops+linguine was the best dish on the table. Scallops had that terrific char but man- were they juicy. Linguine? Prepared al dente. Hubs enjoyed his salmon- but got like ramen noodles to replace the original side. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I decided on an Eggplant Parm and was so looking forward to dig my fork into juicy layers. Theirs? Eggplant seemed like pre-prepped patties. On a happier note though, the mozzarella was fresh and the tomato sauce was sublime in this (what seemed to be) ready-made dish. Despite that, service was nice at this hotel restaurant.

It was really hard to order for pick up due to the line not going through to the restaurant. It just kept looping me back to the hotel. Upon entering the restaurant with my dog, which is why I tried to order via phone, the staff was kind enough to take my order and suggest a place within the hotel to wait for my food. The Burrata salad was so fresh and tasty! Definitely a must if you appreciate that type of cheese. I also had the shrimp scampi pasta was which rich in flavor! In terms of value, I thought the amount of pasta it was served with was skimpy.

    Pork Belly Hash
    Anusha G.

My review of this restaurant is a little weird since I was dining for a free breakfast as a result of my stay at the Kimpton itself. Our server was kind in explaining the menu to us and got our food to us very quickly. We got the pork belly hash and the scrambled bruschetta. They both were great but just a little heavy for breakfast. I managed to eat all my eggs but left most of the focaccia because the ratios were a little off in the bruschetta for my liking. In general this was a good place but the breakfast was alright.

    Italian Sausage Lasagne
    Samantha J.

I had the pleasure of trying brunch and dinner here so here are my thoughts on the individual services: Brunch- kind of a clusterf&@k Food was great, but the service was strange. Each of our individual items came at very separate times. Almost as if each item was an afterthought to the other. That said, the pork belly hash was a refreshing take on brunch. The pork was crispy and the house hollandaise was wonderful. Dinner was the real winner here- the dinner service team was phenomenal. You could tell they all have a really great energy together and everyone was so friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the food! We tried the Lasagne, spicy meatballs and bucatini, and the focaccia. The sauces on the lasagne made this classic dish really pop. The meatballs were wonderfully spicy and the focaccia was so garlicky and crispy. I nearly inhaled the tiramisu. It was light on the last fingers, but I didn't mind. I paired it was the tastiest cappuccino ever. Overall, food was great. This is solid Italian faire wile in downtown.

    Caesar Salad
    Yolanda H.

This restaurant was recommended by a frequent visit to Portland. All of my items were flavorful and fresh. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and daily specials. All team members were attentive to the guest tables. I had the Sunday dinner and Caesar salad. As impressive as the menu looks, my favorite item was the side of bread. I will also order the side of bread with entree because it is warm toasted and still chewy.

Everything we ordered was gorgeous and whimsical in presentation, but of course that would mean little without the flavors to back it all up, which it had in spades. The Thai steak tartare tostadas were incredibly balanced, with brightness and herbaceous notes from the vegetables, herbs, and sauce, great punch from the Thai spices, richness from the tartare, and a nice snap and slight nuttiness from the tapioca crisps cradling everything underneath. The foie gras dumplings were simply divine. I expected them to be rich and dense, but they were like little pillows, with a savory filling and a perfect balance of smoked leek broth, crispy fried leeks, and a caramelized shallot jam that ended up being the surprise star of the dish for me. Then came the main event, the Duck Stack, which I can only describe as a McGriddle on steroids (in the best possible way!). Somehow it all worked beautifully, with the rich duck gravy, fluffy pancakes drenched in syrup, spiced onions, and a fried duck egg tying everything together in perfect harmony. It was one of those dishes that sounds wild on paper but is totally brilliant on the plate and in your mouth. When I asked the server if it was good, they told me that people travel to the restaurant specifically for that dish. I'm glad I tried it. Again, very unique with a well balanced spice profile paired with the delicious undertones of a hot pancake. I know I would have never thought of that, doesn't sound like it should work, but....it worked! Service was great, atmosphere was a bit loud with a band playing next door, it was a bit overwhelming, plus a random dude walked into the restaurant and a server lit his joint for him as a courtesy(?)...stunk the place up for a few minutes, but as I thought about it, I decided that was about the most "Portland" thing I had seen all week on my trip :) I'll be going back for sure, I would love to taste through that entire menu. So many great dishes. From classic bacon and eggs to some wilder options, there was something for everyone. It was all great! Great food, great service!

The space is cozy and inviting, with an open kitchen right in the center as you walk up the slight incline from the entrance. There's a charming little café area to the right and restaurant seating to the left. The large windows overlooking the city from this beautiful old building create the perfect atmosphere, especially on a cold, rainy day. We were greeted with fresh, hot beignets to start, which was such a treat. My husband enjoyed the Mexican Mocha, and I had the London Fog, both were perfect for warming up on a chilly morning. We couldn't decide what to order, so we split the Huevos Rancheros, and wow... it was AUHMAZING too! It was loaded with zucchini, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, spinach, and caramelized onions. We added linguiça sausage, which took it over the top. Every bite was delicious. To make the experience even better, Georgia brought us a sample of the Portuguese Fried Rice, which was incredibly thoughtful and gave us another reason to come back and try more of the menu. By the end of our meal, our bellies were full, we were warm and cozy from our drinks, and we were already talking about our next visit. So glad we found this gem thanks to Yelp. We'll definitely be back! Thank you, Georgia, for making our first visit such a memorable one!

This was an incredible introduction to the Portland food scene, delivering some of the best…read moresandwiches I've ever had. Between the genuinely friendly hospitality and the flavor combinations, this spot hits it out of the park and is a must for sandwich lovers. Griddled Mortadella (5/5): An incredibly delicious sandwich that perfectly balances rich, salty, and savory flavors. It comes loaded with a generous portion of grilled mortadella and melted provolone cheese, perfectly moistened with a tangy mustard aioli. The fresh lettuce and bell peppers added a satisfying crunch to every bite. Chefwich - K-Town Steak Sandwich (5/5): A limited-time creation packed into a banh mi roll. It had a generous portion of perfectly tender and sweet bulgogi steak that pairs with their melted jack cheese. The gochujang mayo sauce had a subtle and sweet heat, while the fresh kimchi added crunch and slight acidity to balance the rich meat. Elote Tater Tots (5/5): Definitely a creative side dish. The tots were perfectly fried and topped elote style with cotija cheese, pairing well with the smoky chipotle mayo on the side. Logistics Tip: Street parking is surprisingly easy to find in the surrounding area, even on a busy weekend evening. The restaurant has a spacious layout with plenty of seating options both inside and outside. If you're a first-timer, don't hesitate to ask the staff for suggestions, as they're exceptionally warm, welcoming, and passionate about the menu.

I've only been to the Lardo in PDX (is it still there?), so I felt like I needed to give the brick…read moreand mortar a chance because, let's face it, the one in PDX is meh. We walked down here on a beautiful day after wedding deletes shopping, so spirits were high. Located on a busy corner, but with plenty of outdoor seating, Lardo is a good place to have lunch on a Saturday. I have nothing to say about the parking sitch. My daughter and I shared the Willamette Reuben and her friend ordered the Italian Flag. We shared the Lardo fries. Oh man, the Reuben was perfection! The flavor of the meat and everything on the sandwich, from texture to flavor--chef's kiss! We heard that the Italian Flag was excellent too. Definitely, you can share a sandwich especially if you're having fries. The fries were delicious--crispy and flavorful on the outside, perfectly hot and mushy on the inside. Yum!
