This place is top notch. The food is excellent and the service is just as good. Believe me if you go you will not be sorry. I had the veal and it melted in your mouth. My family chose this location to celebrate the life of my Uncle following his memorial service. On what was a sad day, the service Mark and the team provided lightened everyone's spirits. From providing the wine list ASAP, to personalizing the greeting with the little facts he was given of our beloved family member, and ultimately brining joy and laughter to the crowd by singing to the widow as the dinner ended - we all left with smiles which is exactly how Uncle Paul would have chosen to see us on the day we honored him. On top of the great service (a thanks for coffee to go!) the food was amazing and they were able to accommodate all of the special requests we threw at them. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking to have a wonderful family style meal as they serve "love sized" portions and make you feel as though you're right at home in their walls. My husband and I chose Il Villagio as our wedding venue the first Saturday of May. The staff worked with us tirelessly to make our event all that we wanted it to be. We were looking for a classy yet homey place and despite the fact that renovations were in progress (new floors were put down just weeks before) there was no sign of it by the time our day arrived. We used the smaller banquet room for the cocktail hour and the larger room for dinner. The wait staff was unbelievable. The timing and service were perfect and the food was outstanding! Two of our guests were in the restaurant/catering business and commented on how professionally and seamlessly service was delivered. The staff worked so well with our florist and DJ that even they said they have recommended Il Villaggio to others. I was concerned that 110 guests would be crowded in the space, but there was plenty of room for our guests as well as a 16 X 16 dance floor. On-going bar service was set up on the patio which gave us even more space. I cannot say enough about how great our experience was. I was out shopping with two of my friends and we passed by II Villaggio and we thought we would stop by to have a nice meal in between shopping. When we arrived at II Villaggio the man at the front desk asked us how many and we told him three and he asked if we had reservations I told him no we did not. He said he would have to go get his manager to see if we could be seated since we didn't have reservations I then asked him if we needed them and if we did and there was a problem we would just leave and he said no we were fine. After waiting for five minutes the manager finally came to the front and asked how many I told him three and he asked us if we had reservations. I told him no and said if it was a problem we would leave. He said you always need reservations and they were highly recommended. He then said we are going to be very busy tonight and I said its three o"clock in the afternoon what does that have to do with getting a table now? We were finally seated and when I looked around there were only two tables that were occupied the rest of the restaurant was empty. The waitress was rude she acted like we were bothering her because she had to take our order and we were rushed thru our meal. We were treated like second class citizens because we didn't have a reservation. The food was just ok nothing to brag about and the restaurant was a dive and I would not recommend it to anyone. I can see now why the place was empty. I would not return to eat here ever again. You can get better service at the Olive Garden where they appreciate your business instead of turning their nose up to you because you did not call ahead and make a lousy reservation. read more

Well, let me first say that Il Villaggio certainly has very nice curb appeal which transforms you to Rome, Florence or Milan. Once inside you realize this is a step above virtually every other restaurant in South Jersey. So business casual is the norm. The waitstaff is very professional and experienced. Herman, an older gentleman was very attentive. He used to work for Georges Perrier in Wayne, PA and he was a delight! The food was excellent and different. By different I mean the taste was unique. The Veal Villaggio was exquisite- the Marsala like reduction sauce was fantastic and the veal melted in your mouth. The penne was perfect and my daughter said the sauce was the best she ever had. The Bronzino presented well in an adequate portion. However the shrimp was small and felt packaged rather than freshly prepared. The deserts ranked a B with a probable 10 to 15 percent of other restaurants exceeding their offering. Overall a great place with nice OP music in the background. I told Herman listening to the Moonlight Serenade instrumental brought tears to my eyes. Must have been thinking of Mom and Dad. We had the Fish of the Day and the Veal Villagio from the standard menu selection. Both meals were excellent! The server staff was excellent and available throughout our dining experience. It should be noted that, although Valet parking in "complimentary", you must park in the very far end of the parking lot if you don't utilize valet parking. Luckily we used valet parking because the exit was blocked by incoming cars awaiting valet service and those cars parked without valet service were all blocked in. Additionally, this is a BYOB restaurant that also serves wind at a significant markup. We noticed that the noise level was very high; therefore not suitable for a quiet romantic dining experience. read more

Karin and I have been coming to Il Villagio for quite some time. We have enjoyed many lunches and dinners here. We have recommended Il Villagio to many people and have brought our friends here.Today was no exception. Joined by our friends Jay and Ken, we had a marvelous lunch. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. A beautiful room with a fire place and comfortable chairs, a lovely setting. The service is excellent, very old school. The servers are well dressed, but not stuffy. They are courteous, efficient, knowledgeable about the menu and are very willing to go the extra step. The food is absolutely delicious. They bake their bread, make a good deal, if not all, of the pastas. They make some of their desserts. The ingredients are always fresh and well prepared. We have never had a so so meal at Il Villagio. We have always left the table feeling very good about our meal. I won't describe what we had today, but we could not stop raving about the food, whether it was the broccoli rabe ravioli special, or the scallop risotto, or the veal saltimbocca or the table filleted Branzino. They had two large parties at lunch today, plus other diners such as our foursome. Never did we feel neglected or shortchanged by the service or the food. We actually felt we were the only diners there. One of the owners stopped by a few times to welcome us, to ask how the meal was going. I had dinner here a few weeks ago while visiting family in the area. Just like everyone else here I very much enjoyed the atmosphere with the fireplace. The service is impeccable and the ambience matches the menu, rustic Italian. There are a lot of different choices on the menu. I am allergic to shellfish and could not partake in the many seafood options however I had more than enough to choose from. There were three of us dining and we shared quite a bit off the menu. The highlights were a beet crostini which was very creative and a beautiful plate, the homemade gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce and the bronzino which was cooked to perfection. You can tell there is a lot of passion in the food and service here. Everyone around us seemed to have similar experiences as we chatted with a few tables near us. Delicious and reasonably priced food in a warm and welcoming environment. Hostess and waitress were both very polite and attentive. Had a reservation for 5:30pm on a Saturday, seating was a little tight but didn't feel uncomfortable or like everyone could hear our conversation. I ordered the homemade lobster ravioli which came in a perfect serving size and was fantastic. We went to IL VILLAGGIO RESTAURANT last weekend to send off relatives moving to Florida. We had a party of 10. When ordering my wife and I only had salads (I had the Beet Salad and she had the Caesar) I stated to the waitress that we would need to leave early (my wife would need to get to work). After everyone had ordered, the waitress had pop quizzed me about the salad. I THOUGHT, because of all the noise, when she asked about appetizer or entree she meant the size (after all this I think she meant when the food should arrive). So we wait. Others salads arrive but not ours. Then the entrees arrive, but not our salads. So we wait. I look around and other waitress is across the room, chatting with another employee. As far as I recall she never checked on our table since taking the orders. Being late and not wanting to make a scene, I suggested we cancel our orders and just leave. The wife wanted to stay so the family is not charged for food not delivered. When the food FINALLY shows up (really how hard is it to make TWO salads) we mediately ask for it to be boxed. Once again, it seemed to take them quite a while to do that than I thought neccessary. After getting home, I personally thought the food was no different than any other place, but no question the service was worse. read more

This was a disappointing evening- when our meals were served the server said that they were out of the special! So, my brother in law had to order another meal and patiently wait. We were guided through our meal beginning with sharing the portobello and then sharing the gnocci gorgonzola,which was amazing. I had the Chicken Frangelico, a suggestionfrom the waiter. Loved it! Just discovered Il Villagio. I am hooked. The atmosphere is comfortable but elegant. Like a lovely Italian home. Our waiter, Michael, was charming and just the right amount of attentive. And the FOOD! Wow! Wonderful and unique ways of dealing with much loved recipes. Our grilled calamari appetizer was perfectly grilled and spiced and the tomato garnish exceptional (especially since we were not in tomato season). Homemade tagliatelli so delicious and authentic, and penne in a cream sauce with fresh spring asparagus was a surprise combination of flavors. I took my son to IL Villaggio, last night, for his 40th birthday. It was our first time here. We were greeted with grace and taken immediately to a table by the fire. There wasn't an overwhelming fire smell which was great because we both have allergies. Service was pleasant, low-key and very professional. I couldn't decide on an entrée but my decision was rewarded and I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that would have made it better was if I had brought my wine !!! The price was appropriate for the whole experience. Our time of arrival was around 6 pm on Friday, no reservation, but the room started to fill shortly after. I've lived in the area for years, even worked down the street and never knew this was here. I can't wait to go back, I was totally impressed. We found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to try it on our trip to see our daughter at University of Delaware on Thursday May 7th. Being Italian and from NYC, it is pretty hard to impress us with Italian food and atmosphere. We were beyond pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the service and the lovely surroundings, not to mention the luxury of BYOB!! The salads (Caesar and Arugula) were an excellent and sizable beginning. Our main courses were Mushroom/Scallop Risotto and Clams and Shrimp Fra Diavolo over pasta. Both were wonderfully prepared to perfection and delicious!! It was difficult to decide on a dessert but the pistachio gelato was amazing. Besides the exceptional food, kudos to the wait staff as well as the charming Albanian/Roman owner who made us feel at home and was kind enough to give us a little tour of the outdoor dining area which was lovely. This has easily become a favorite. We came for the first time during the winter to celebrate an engagement with our family. The staff took care of us in a private room and were incredible the entire time. My fiance and I then came back about a week ago and we still had a fantastic experience. My significant other and I have been searching for a few excellent Italian restaurants in the South Jersey suburbs. We have found a number of them but we liked Il Villagio. They offer a complimentary bread with this sundried tomato ricotta type dip. It was tasty. We decided to get the Frutti Di Mare which is a lot of seafood and linguini in red sauce. Very good! The atmosphere was wonderful and the food, delicious although we cannot comment on coffee or dessert since it was never offered to us by our server. We had reservations for Satuday night around 6:30, earlier in the evening. Initially service was impeccable but our server disappeared after our entre was served, and we waited for a menu of desserts. During this time we noticed people waiting in the foyer. Our server dropped off the check quickly and left without offering coffee or dessert. After we paid, it was apparent the restaurant had overbooked and we were being rushed to leave. The Hostess asked us in one sentence if we had gotten our check and if we needed anything else. On our way out, we spoke to a foursome who said they had reservations for 7:30 and it was 8:15. We did not think that a dining experience should be rushed as this was. Overall the food was great-the Penne Asparagus had a delicious sauce-lightly creamy but not too thick. The grilled calamari was also wonderful. It is a shame the evening had to end as it did. Prices are mid-range-we averaged about $30 a person including appetizers and entre. I would recommend this restaurant but warn people to let the restaurant know you may want to dine for more than an hour! read more

This is an excellent Italian restaurant. The dishes are unique and delicious. It is definitely a hidden gem in South Jersey. I don't think a lot of people know it is there and potential diners are really missing out. We have visited for lunch and dinner and the food never disappoints. The soups are homemade. I had their tomato soup which is very flavorful with a hint of sherry. Their bread is EXCELLENT with a very unique spread. Some of the dishes we have sampled include a Veal Ragu (special) which melted in our mouths. The veal flavor came through the sauce served over homemade pasta. The shrimp, scallop arugula salad is another favorite. The scallops are tender and tasty. Their gnocchi is another favorite. They serve it with many different sauces, one better than the other. Yesterday was our 35th Wedding Anniversary and I turned to yelp to help me find a good place for dinner. Il Villaggio came very highly recommended, so I made a reservation. Let me begin by saying we are very picky, only because I cook and I know what I like, how I like it and how to make it, so we usually have a hard time finding food out that we enjoy as much as at home. Let me begin with the staff. Our waiter was Mike, he immediately made us feel welcome as did everyone else there.Very attentive and polite with a little humor thrown in for good measure. I give the staff 5 stars. We had a dozen oysters that were extremely good and even tried their braised beef tongue as an appetizer, it was good, it brought back some childhood memories for me which was nice. We both had the veal chop, highly recommended, great taste and done to my liking, served with a mushroom demi glaze. No choice on the vegetable sides which were just ok. It was a mix of diced vegetables and 4 little wedges of a roasted potato. I was ok with that since I really just wanted to enjoy the veal chop. We had requested to sit in front of the fire but when we got there my husband asked to sit in a different location off to the side which they had no problem changing for us. We were surprised at the end of our meal with a desert of pistachio ice cream with a candle in it to wish us a Happy Anniversary and a complimentary glass of sambuca for an after dinner drink! One of the best fine restaurant in town .My husband and I went out for dinner thursday night at Il Villaggio .We were seated to the table for two by the large fireplace ,the room was so cozy with beautiful decor .The service was great ,everybody was so friendly and the food was delicious we started with a great calamari salad with spring mix ,tomatoes ,roasted peppers ,and I ordered the beet salad with goat cheese and pistachio ,fig balsamic ,citrus lemon one of the best which I ever had .For our entrees ,my husband choose Veal mare monte with jumbo lump crabmeat ,spinach ,roasted peppers and citrus lemon sauce ,and I ordered Shrimp scallop bianco jumbo shrimp ,with scallop white whine sauce over tagliatelle both were fresh and well prepared ,at the end we had the best creme brulee cheesecake and the orange panna cotta ,this is an italian dessert ,one of the best I ever had .Based on my experience in here ,I 'm going with the strong 5 stars . read more
