Food was delicious besides the gnocchi missing crab meat and the asparagus not being cooked. Our server, Sarah, was awesome. She was attentive and personable. I was debating giving 3 stars because the wait times were awful. They definitely did not have the staff needed for the amount of people they had on reservations. We made a reservation for 7:45. We weren't seated until 8:30 and only because I went up to the desk to see what was taking so long. They had crossed our name off the list for some reason. After getting seated we put in apps and they came our fast. We quickly put our order in since we were very hungry, and it didn't come out until 9:50! Just had an educational work dinner here in a nice private room. The servers were attentive, the food was delicious, and the room was perfect for our event. We started with beer and wine, a chilled antipasto bar, then a house salad and choice of entree. I really liked the antipasto bar. My chicken parm was delicious, 2 crispy breasts over pasta, I had enough for leftovers. We wrapped up with coffee and a perfect mini cannoli, the sweet end to a nice dinner. read more

Il Villaggio is quickly becoming my new favorite Italian restaurant in SJ and for good reason. We first came here for a birthday back in August and had a great experience between the food, wait staff and ambiance of the reatauant. One of the servers was even serenading some tables with his guitar. On my first visit, I had the pork osso buco over risotto. It was so tender and flavorful. The juice from the pork soaked into the risotto, which made it even better. I devoured it before I could even snap a pic. We came back one month later for my birthday and enjoyed it even more the second time. We started with the grilled calamari and long hots stuffed with Gorgonzola and prosciutto - both great. The peppers had a real kick to them which I like. I had a hard time deciding between the veal chop (which my father insists is the best) or the pork chop. I ultimately went for the latter and stole a bite of his veal Parmesan. The pork chop was porcini crusted, topped with Gorgonzola in a port wine reduction w/broccoli rabe and yes it's as good as it sounds. The service was top notch. Our waiter along with the manager regularly checked up on us but did not make us feel rushed. Came to Il Villaggio for a celebratory gathering. The service was exceptional and our server was a delight. Our water and wine glasses never went empty and the atmosphere was marvelous. I'm hoping it was just a fluke but the butternut squash I ordered with pork belly was drier than I was expecting or hoping for. The taste was solid but the texture took away from the dish. First I will say - the food was pretty good. The food is worthy of four stars but the service brings it down. We had a reservation for a while and we arrived on time and they stuck us in crammed corner. Our server was not overly friendly and tried to force and order out of us as soon as possible, then when we weren't ready that particular time, she didn't show back up for twenty-twenty five minutes. So we had to get another server to get her to take our orders. Not attentive and frankly was just rude. Food wise, don't get the friend zucchini, exceptionally bland. The sausage app is good. The pork chop was excellent as well as the Shrimp diavolo. Ultimately, most likely won't come back as a result of this experience. read more

This place is an excellent place for homemade Italian food. The service is good and the accommodations are excellent. I had the chicken parm which was nicely done. The chicken is flattened and crispy and I get it with meat sauce instead of tomato sauce. It was delicious. Everyone loved their dishes and the deserts were very good as well. My favorite is those homemade hot chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Portions are large. The chef was able to accommodate is by making chicken fettuccine Alfredo which was not on the menu but my mom wanted it. My daughter also needed to have gluten free pasta and they also made it for her. Great place! I would definitely be back! read more

We went here for the first time last night and had a wonderful experience! We had a reservation for 7:30 and when we got there many people were waiting to be seated, we were seated at about 7:35. The room we were seated in was a gorgeous blue color and had a massive chandelier as well as floral baskets hanging on the walls. The decor was lovely and made a great experience. We had a very friendly server named Joe who was a delight! They give you bread and a extremely unique sun dried tomato dipping sauce to start with. This sauce was different from anything I've ever had and was very good! We also had the mussels appetizer in a pesto sauce as an appetizer. For dinner I had the gnocchi adriatico and the gnocchi was perfect - it melted in our mouth! My boyfriend had their homemade ravioli with veal, pecans, mushrooms, and a Demi-glaze sauce. This was so different from anything we have had before and was extremely yummy. He also had a margarita since they now have a liquor license that he said was good as well. We will definitely be back soon since there are so many dishes on the menu we can't wait to try! read more

To be fair all reviews should have positives and negatives to be fully objective. So let's start with the positives. Open every day, lunch and dinner, valet parking, live music weekly, fireplace and an outdoor area in season. They also have happy hour. That is a pretty good combo of items, if only they knew how to execute. Let's talk live music, it is nice in the bar area, but nowhere is it on their web site regarding what nights, totally hit or miss. I went on a Saturday, no music, so I assume that it is not a music night. Talked to a bartender about the lack of any online presence of the music so perhaps they could correct it, to no avail (that was in the summer). Now the location has a storied past as having housed Nonna's, the well regarded Northen Italian BYOB. I feel the food peaked from there. The current restaurant occupies the entire building where previously the space had a I believe a hair salon and a long time ago a cigar shop. The larger space allow the restaurant to offer business lunches, aka pharmaceutical events as well as offer a catering hall venue. This catering hall mode is unfortunately intertwined with normal dining experience. Let me elaborate. Dining out, the service felt sloppy and unpolished, aka catering hall. The server would disappear for lengths of time. Drop a bottle of wine on the table and not open it and walk away? Wine glasses in the restaurant are industrial grade diner style, different glasses in the bar are slightly nicer. I had requested dinning room, I got the farthest long narrow room, that lacked wall decoration but sported a TV with a video of a fireplace. Probable an ok room for a budget wedding, but there are many other Italian restaurants with a better feel. Could you at least attempt to make the room inviting? We were told that everything on the menu is a la carte, meaning entrees include no sides. I get the Capital Grill does that, but this place is not the capitol Grill. The food, well out of a party of 6, two people liked the meal, four said let's not go back. To be inclusive, the bar area is nice and did not exist when it was BYOB. They only kept the bar on one side cutting in half potential bar seating, I think the bar has maybe 22 seats, which is a free for all if you decide to go for happy hour. Bartenders when I had visited were inattentive and enjoyed being on their phones. Could you at least offer water when someone orders a drinks and sitting at the bar? That is SOP. For a restaurant. Changing the bar, I am sure would be a considerable expense but improving the aesthetic of the place and educating the wait staff, well, that is SOP for a restaurant. I am only posting this review as I discussed this with another dining friend who agreed they had 2 inconsistent meals here and questioned why they would go back for a 3rd try, they wouldn't. I felt better that I was not out of line with the experience. I post this with the hope the place can makes changes for the better as they seem oblivious to their issues. read more

I enjoyed a business lunch here last Monday. Right off the bat, my colleague and I were taken aback at how completely empty the place was at Noon -- and we were the only guests for a good half hour. That is usually not a good sign...but hey, it ended up working in our favor. We were seated immediately and well tended to! The dining room appeared to be clean. The menu offered a wide variety of Italian-inspired choices, which all sounded so good. Warm bread was promptly brought out with a red pesto and olive oil sauce -- yum. We both started with the Shrimp Bisque, which was absolutely delicious. We also shared the paper-thin, peppery Beef Carpaccio. I enjoyed the Scallops Risotto as my main course. It comes with only two scallops, but they were huge, so it was enough to satisfy! This dish was perfectly cooked, and very flavorful. My colleague enjoyed her Homemade Gnocchi. We also put in several orders of the Grilled Atlantic Salmon Salad to go; I heard it was good. I would have loved to try one of the desserts, but I was simply stuffed! Our waitress was sharp and very knowledgeable. She made some recommendations and ensured our water glasses stayed full. We were very pleased with the service. Ample free parking, clean restrooms. Attended a sit down, catered event here and the food was outstanding. Being so far away from my "Italian home base" of NYC, I was surprised that they pulled off a nice little salad, and Chicken parm w/ capallini so well. It was really ample portions. They closed it out with a vanilla bean flan like dessert that was also pretty amazing. I'm not sure what the deal was on the booze, because my brother-in-law, brought his own, so I'm sure there was a corkage fee or something... but the food was really great! read more

We went here for my Mom's birthday. We were originally a party of two but were able to easily ammend to 4 when some other relatives joined. Space is quite impressive, there are multiple dining rooms (unfortunately forgot to take pictures of the interior). There's a quite largw outdoor dining that is insulated for the cold. Our server was incredibly nice and helpful, she helped us to narrow down our choices. I got the homemade gnocchi followed by the creme brule. Both of which were delicious. The creme brule was delicious, the size looks quite substantial from the picture but the dish is quite shallow so I'd recommend getting your own rather than sharing. The gnocchi was solid but not my favorite in Cherry Hill. Overall would definitely recommend for your next special dinner. read more

Update! Came here for a work Christmas party! What a delight! There was such a festive atmosphere! And the fireplace really adds such a special touch. We were able to open our own wine bottles and also order one! And the staff even let us order an anti pasta for an appetizer Even though it wasn't on the menu! My dinner was the pork special over polenta and brussels sprouts, it was phenomenal! And for dessert I had the tartufo! Our server was sweet and attentive. Five stars all around Went here for my friends birthday, just the two of us at 6 PM on a Wednesday night. We were the only souls in the restaurant until 7. But they seated us right by the fire and we were nice and warm and cozy! Our server ( he looks young and he had an Italian name my grandmother would be sad that couldn't pronounce) was very knowledgeable about the specials and we ended up actually ordering the same dish! Bronzino stuffed with crab meat with a side of spinach, bacon, and cannellini beans. It was heaven! All of the flavors went so well together! It took me so long to eat it because I was savoring every bite, it got cold by the end! The presentation was beautiful and the flavor did not disappoint. We also got the broccoli Rabe and crabmeat soup, and the chicken Parmesan meatball soup. They were both absolutely delicious! For dessert we accidentally, OK intentionally, ordered two crème brûlée's! The fresh strawberry on top made the whole thing! I just wish it had a couple more strawberries! It was absolutely delicious, and temperature was perfect! We shared a half bottle of Chardonnay;love that comes by the half bottle! By the end of the night, 2 1/2 hours later, the fire had begun to warm us too much and our eyes actually began to burn! Ate here as a table of 4 and everything was delicious! The olive oil and sun dried tomato dip (i think thats what it was) to eat with the bread was yummy, bread was brought out warm. Apps: octopus, grilled calamari, and special crab corn chowder, all good (esp the chowder). Main courses: lobster ravioli, veal male monte, capellini portofino, & gnocchi adriatico, 0 complaints. The crab was lump crab, not shredded and skimpy. Portions were large. Our waiter, Paolo, was soo friendly and welcoming. Also, this was a surprise dinner and the hostess asked us some things to make sure the surprise wasn't thrwated by something like the reservation name being a give away. Came here for my grandmother's birthday, and had a great time. Overall good service and good food. The interior decor has an old-Church vibe. I'd safely say this place would not be considered casual, but also not upscale either. It's a nice place to host large events, and reminds me of a place that the Italian mafia would dine. It feels old, yet beautiful, casual, but still fancy - basically a great place to celebrate any grandmother's birthday. Our waiter was extremely nice. Orders came in pretty fast, and he was very accommodating in explanations. The tables are extremely close together so there were some random pushes and pulls coming from the wait staff to get through, but nothing too bothersome. For appetizers, we ordered both the truffle and zucchini fries. Both were great, although the truffle on the truffle fries were a bit overpowering. I'd definitely recommend the zucchini fries over the truffle ones, but I also really enjoyed the truffle fries as well. We got a bottle of Riesling too. It was $26, which I thought was not too bad. They have a pretty large list of wines, which is nice, since they're also a BYOB place. We unfortunately completely forgot to bring wine, so it was nice to see that they had a lot of choices available on hand. In terms of food, my mom and I both ordered the scallop risotto and it was GREAT. Its a bit on the salty side, but otherwise, I'd say this dish was perfect. Honestly, this is the first time I've seen my mom finish a dish in its entirety in my life when dining out. My cousin ordered the penne vodka, which she also seemed to enjoy. The Bolognese, my sister's choice, was less favorable. We brought a cake and there's a cake cutting fee of $4/ slice. I think there was a bit of confusion on this since one waiter didn't mention a cake cutting fee, but another one did. This definitely left our party confused, but again, not a huge deal. Overall, I'd definitely come back and dine again. I think this place has a great atmosphere, nice staff, and great food. read more

We saw a very crowded parking lot for a Wednesday night and it seemed promising, when we walked in we realized there was a private party in the banquet room and we were the only patrons, immediate cause for concern. We started with a Caesar salad and a soup special, which was an artichoke creamy soup. The Caesar with house made dressing was bland but the soup was good. Our entrees were fantastic. Homemade gnocchi in a mushroom cream sauce with grilled chicken, and linguine carbonara, both dishes really elevated my rating of this restaurant. Went here for Father's Day lunch. The service was amazing. Our server was attentive to every detail but was also fun and personable. We had a few apps- the crab cocktail and raw oysters were fresh and delicious. Buffalo shrimp was done perfectly and a big hit with the kids. I had the Fra Diavlo and it was rich, succulent and tasty. Everyone loved their entree. Desert was equally good. Basic, but yummy. They have a full bar and while the Bloody Mary wasn't my favorite, it was good- just not on par with the rest of the meal. This time a friend traveled from Harrisburg we were there to celebrate her birthday. First we went to the fabulous new bar. It is absolutely gorgeous!! This was a Monday night. Both my friend and I ordered a dirty Martini. Bartender was accommodating, the drink for me was not good. I asked for more olive juice. Better but not great. We decided to have our dinner at the bar. First up I ordered little neck clams is red sauce. $14 for a dz. Clams were delicate, small and clean. It was like they were steamed with garlic and tomato gravy put on after the fact..minimal sauce. The bread they served is homemade. But, it tasted like a soda bread or an old bread. Not great for sopping up gravy. My friend had mussels...same experience. She got grilled octopus and loved it. She also got a Ceasar salad and enjoyed it. I thought I was ordering the gnocchi and crab but asked for penne instead. I got penne in a red sauce. Disappointing. Bartender and servers were attentive, professional bur in no way engaging. It was a stiff experience, unfortunately. Not negative but the word engaging is pertinent. Extremely disappointed in this restaurant. We had booked a luncheon here, and had some both positive and negative feedback. Despite reaching out 3 different times, I never got as much as a call back from anyone staff management or owner. We were a party of 45 , made to guarantee 75. The salad was over dressed and complete mush, they ran out of food and guests were made to wait, servers interrupting during video presentation. The food were sent home with was not that of the 30 extra we were made to pay for and clearly didn't receive. Details of set up were missed despite stopping by and reviewing it with management. Upon paying the bill the servers tried to switch doe extra $$ saying the tip was less and that could we add additional, even though their tip was far more generous than it should have been. I arrived to the restaurant at 8 PM on a Saturday night. The waiter asked if we wanted tap water or bottled water to which I said bottled, and he still brought us tapwater. Then when asking to order appetizers, he told us we would have to put the order all together. I have never heard of this at any restaurant, and it was a lie. The food took over 30 minutes to come out to which he kept asking us do you want any more food or I could bring you more bread when all we wanted was the entrées. After getting the food, I kept being an asked over and over again if I liked the food, I felt super pressured. As my mother was eating, they kept hounding us asking us if we wanted the food to go, which made me feel again, uncomfortable, and pressured. My father asked for well done steak and it came out burnt. I asked the waiter if my Dish had any crab meat in it and he said to me, sweetie, did you want any crab meat on the side in a condescending voice. To give you background I'm Hispanic and I felt as though this waiter was being racist. I never felt so uncomfortable dining out before when my parents order dessert. They didn't even take two bites and the waiter slammed the check on the table, we asked to speak to the manager who was able to help us out, but this was the worst dining experience I've ever had. My favorite restaurant. Had been a fan of the restaurant for years. Brought my mom here for her birthday dinner and as usual villagio had again service from all wait staff. We had a very energetic server (older gentleman who was very enthusiastic in explaining everything) and was very hospitable. I ordered Branzino fish dish and my mom ordered the salmon dish (see pictures). We finished both dishes and we're mopping up the leftover sauce with the complimentary bread lol. It was that good. We really enjoyed ourselves. We skipped the dessert menu/coffee and total bill was for $65.04 (not including tip). Had a beautiful evening. Would do again. read more

This place has no idea how to manage large parties. There were 19 of us and they put us in a room that could seat 10 comfortably. The service was very good but that's where the good experience ended. The fees they charge for corkage is ridiculous and, as this was a birthday party, they wanted to charge a cake cutting fee of $3 per person. That's $57 just to cut cake, the cake was cheaper than that. The portions of food were small and there was no garnish for enhanced presentation, for the price, you'd think that would matter. This place thinks they are in the city with their excessive charges. Do not recommend!! My 2 stars are more for the service as the manager wouldn't even get on the phone with me and left the staff flying in the breeze!! Not a good look! read more

Where do I start? We had a birthday party for my daughter. Told this was a byob. The waiter chastised us for bringing some beer... moving on. There were 19 of us. Ordered appetizers for the table. $18 per appetizer, VERY small portions. My meal was ok, my wife had the filet mignon with crab. There was maybe 2 tablespoons of crab meat for $12 that was dry and tasteless. When we got to the cake, the waiter told us that there would be a $3 per slice "cutting fee". EXCUSE ME? $57 to cut a cake? Gouging at its worst. Our bill was in excess of $900 and you want to hit me for a $57 fee. When I asked to talk to the manager, I was told he was in a meeting. REALLY, at 8:45pm on a Monday night? Dreadful!! We will NEVER be back. Nor will I ever recommend this restaurant. Hope it was worth it. read more

My family has been dining here since they opened. Always a pleasure. Food is great. The bartenders are always on point. I have seen the owners physically step in to assist their servers and bartenders as needed during a busy night. They care and it truly shows. We have never been denied substitutions & they have allowed us to take as much time as we like, which is much appreciated.
