2-for-1 beers during Sunday night football, sign me up! We came here for a broncos game to get away from the rowdy crowds in the big bars of downtown. There was a handful of TVs scattered around the bar so we could watch the game. Not too packed, it was a great place to watch a game and still be able to hold a conversation with your neighbor. We all got a burger, split the fries between two of us, and two beers (bogo offer). Came out to being around $17 per person. Not bad for a downtown burger spot. They let us pay for all the food upfront and throughout the game if we wanted more alcohol, they served us at the table and brought a tablet to us to pay so we didn't have to go back up to the front to pay. Service was fantastic, one waiter in particular had us laughing at our table the whole time! I got the illegal cream cheese- A burger topped with- you guessed it- cream cheese, fried onions, and jalapenos. It was S-P-I-C-Y!!! To offset the spice, I had sweet potato fries that came with a rich and creamy cinnamon apple dip. I could have taken it home and spread it on toast. I even dipped my burger into the sauce, it was THAT GOOD. The bogo offer for beers was $6 for two. They had around a dozen craft beers to choose from for that special. We read the reviews when visiting downtown Denver and craving a burger. We went there based off reviews. Sadly the reviews were wrong. We paid 50 bucks for 2 burgers, 2 beers, and one fry to share. The burgers were not bad, but not worth the reviews or price. The green Chile cheese fries were amazing, 10 stars!!! But then I saw we paid 7 dollars for fries and that's crazy!!! This is a fast food joint essentially where you order at the counter and they drop at your table. No other service. So with all that being said, I cannot give more than 2 stars. Really, really, delicious! Don't bring a first date here... the burgers are super messy, but oh so good! Well done meat that is delicious and moist, tasty flavors, and plenty of toppers. I had the Boss, which was a fabulous mix of heat (jalapeno), sweet (pineapple) and salty (bacon!). My guy got the Off The Record Avocado, which looked fantastic, but i wasn't able to snag a bite! He did share his sweet potato fries with me, which were perfectly crispy on the outside, nice and soft inside. So good, you don't even need the cinnamon bacon butter they come with. (Seriously, I think these are the best sweet potato fries I've ever had) My ONLY gripe is that while they have salads available, they don't offer lettuce "buns" ... there are plenty of tasty calories to be had here, it'd be nice to have the option of saving a couple hundred (though don't get me wrong, the brioche bun is fantastic and my guy raved about the pretzel bun!) read more

TRUFFLE FRIESSSSS. I picked this place solely because they offered truffle fries, but the battered cod "burger" I had is something I'm gonna dream about post-Denver-vacay. Today I went to Illegal Burger for the first time- it was yummayyyy . I ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger with a chicken patty instead of beef. It's awesome that they can switch out any burger patty with whichever kind you want! It was very good and filling. The fries and the special sauce (idk what it is) were super good. Plenty of seating and right off Larimer Square if you're looking for something quick y I also found out they have $1 margs on Monday's... will have to come back! UPDATE: I came back on a Monday for the margs and all I have to say is YES. So worth the visit back. Small, but I can't complain since they're just a dollar. Tried the fry sampler and subbed the tots for the truffle fries. They are literally so delicious. This place is dangerously close to campus and I'm totally hooked. read more

This place is hands down one of the BEST places to get a burger...dare I say...in the universe. I initially came here back in June and believe me...EVERY month I'm back in Denver, at least one of my meals has to be at Illegal Burger. You cannot go wrong with any of their burgers. The Kingpin Birria (THANK YOU for permanently adding this to the menu) is my current fave! Have you ever eaten something and you're just in disbelief about how amazing it tastes? That's this burger. The combo of flavors defy any thing my brain can process. Well done!!!!! (Insert thunderous applause). I also love the Mushroom Swiss, The Godfather, and the Boss! My my my...it's food nirvana. Super friendly service and a nice long chat with the manager convinced us that this is THE hamburger place. IB's expected expansion should be a smash hit if they keep making burgers like this. We went here before a show at Comedy Works after seeing all the great reviews. The burgers were good but we just couldn't get past the cleanliness of this place. It was quite literally disgusting. The floors look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks. The plastic part of the napkin dispenser by the fountain drinks came off while we were trying to get napkins so we of course tried to put it back. It STUCK to our hands. It was covered in so much filth that we sat down at our dirty table and immediately got out hand sanitizer. At this point we were really concerned at what the kitchen where our food was being cooked looked like. The beer was flat and the bathrooms were equally disgusting. Actual poop marks in the toilet. The kicker is that none of the employees took it upon themselves to CLEAN anything. They stood behind the bar on their phones and chatted to each other. I'm not sure how this place even passes inspection. We will not be back. read more

When I came in the card service had just gone down, but despite this everyone in the restaurant did everything they could take make sure I got what I needed. Son had the quinoa bowl with chicken (which he raved about), his girl had the mushroom swiss, wife had off the record avocado, and I had the fish sandwich. A side of sweet potato fries was shard.
