I don't know where to begin here. Just abysmal. The pizza was puffy and flavorless. The "fresh" tomatoes were clearly cheap, canned, diced tomatoes. The middle of the pie was raw dough, completely undercooked. I asked for toppings and they had to look around for the single shakers of oregano, red pepper, parm, and garlic...they literally had one of each for over a dozen tables. The one star is for the nice younger waitress who is wasting her time serving this sub-Domino's crap. Maybe this is great pizza in the middle of nowhere, but being a regular at places in Fairfield County and New York, this is just embarrassing. read more

I wasn't too impressed with my meal, however it wasn't the worst I've ever had. I ordered the Bolognese. It seemed like they just threw on some ground beef and some (slightly flavorless) tomato sauce and called it a day. I've had bolognese many times before, and it was a lot different, being that the beef was incorporated into the sauce more. I know it usually doesn't come with cheese, but it would be nice to offer it. Or spices (parsley) or something? I also got garlic bread, and it was good although the bread definitely wasn't the freshest. Salad was fine. I would add some cannolis to the menu as that would impress some Italians coming here. I ordered two pizzas for take out, cheese & bbq chicken. I love this style pizza, it reminds me of NYC versus the Greek pizza I traditionally find in the area. My only gripe is whoever decided "let's make a BBQchicken pizza as basic as possible" should be checked for mental health. Dough, cheese, baked then slathered with BBQ chicken bits? Weird. I am not one to complain at all! But this just happened! My whole family and I have been going to Illiano's Grill in Norwich, CT for many years, I ordered this pasta dish Penne Alla Carbonara and I added chicken which sounded delicious but instantly made me nauseous. I am not sure why but I explained that I am battling cancer so my body is apparently sensitive to odd tastes. I explained this to our waitress Jennifer that it didn't sit well and immediately nauseous! Even though I only took a small taste both she and the owner said they will Not exchange it for something else and will not take it off the bill, they charged for this dish that made me nauseated and I had to leave hungry and feeling ill and got charged for that nasty pasta dish! This place was just eh for me. You walk in and you can turn right into a Pizza looking joint or you can turn left into a dining room. The decor is outdated and the specials are handwritten and photo-copied. It definitely had an old school vibe going on. That being said ... all the entrees came with either soup or salad and bread. I tried the baked ziti with house salad. The salad was just lettuce with two grape tomatoes and 2 cucumber slices... eh. My baked ziti came out with melted sliced mozzarella cheese... I thought that was odd but the flavor was very good. Great traditional baked ziti with ricotta. My fiancé had the tortellini soup which just tasted like tortellini in watery chicken broth. He also had the Italian festival which was stuffed shells, manicotti, and ravioli. I think this dish is just for people who can't decide which pasta shape they like best because they all tasted exactly the same. He also got a side of meatballs and sausage which came out cold but the waitress microwaved them. Was very difficult for me to choose between 3 or 4 stars but I went with the upper because the service was good and the baked ziti and table bread with olive oil were yummy. read more

Always loved this place. Lots of places have their ups and downs but this place stays consistently good. The workers are always so nice and friendly. The food is always sooooo good. Plus if you're looking for vegan options, this is the place to go. I decided to go vegan 2 years again and pizza places are hands down one of the hardest places to find something to eat. Never have I had an issue with Illiano's until this evening. Half our order was missing, and we received a cup of soup but was charged for a bowl. Since this was a Grubhub order I tried to contact them- they only allow for 1 missing item so I called Illiano's. The "gentleman" who answered first said they gave all the food to the driver and it was issue but when I pressed him further telling him I did not receive my food told me to hold then said "come get it". I said I wanted a refund, he responded "come get it". I told him to credit my card. The reason for Grubhub is so I don't have to "come get it". This man was rude and unprofessional. They should keep him off the phone. My husband and I regularly go to Illiano's pre pandemic, we've ordered often during the pandemic and to be treated so poorly for their mistake is unconscionable. You lost two customers and I will make sure everyone I know hears the story of rude, unsympathetic behavior and rotten customer service. Shame on you. read more

It's a place to eat. Nothing special. My biggest complaint is the server we had. I asked if there was meat in the baked ziti and the answer I got was yes. So that's what I ordered. When it arrived there was no meat in the dish. Therefore I asked, wasn't there suppose to be meat in the baked ziti? The waitress said, "You asked me about the lasagna". I told her no I did not. She then told me, I'm sure you asked about the lasagna. My mother-in-law the. Interjected and told her, no his he didn't. It was my son that asked about the lasagna. Not many places are open in Norwich after 9:00 pm on a weeknight. We went in here a little after 9:00 pm. I had a small salad, a cup of clam chowder, and a steak and cheese sub. The salad was boring. Ordered 3 seafood pasta dishes on a delivery service app. Second time we've ordered from Illiano's. They not only didn't give us all three dishes (missing one entirely!), the food actually tasted awful, like the clams were old. Scary! And the Fra Diablo sauce was ridiculously basic, like someone just opened canned crushed tomatoes and dumped it over old stinky clams. No flavor, no spice, nothing at all like a Fra Diablo should be. Well usually this place is good but ordered pasta this time instead of pizza. We ordered our past with shrimp my girl got one and I got none. Stick to pizza. Taking another star off. Calamari was ok. Pasta vodka was pretty good but the fettuccine was bland and bad. Sad when Olive Garden can make better food. Edit: Down to one star because restaurant pretty much says the same thing to everyone. Give us another chance?!?! No compensation for the mistake just try us again, and I was not aware I had to hold your hand and be like this is wrong. While looking on Yelp, we found this gem in our search for Italian food in the Norwich , CT area. Nothing fancy in terms of structure, but a friendly , welcoming staff and food that rivals any Italian food we have ever had. The menu had excellent variety and we wish we lived closer so we could go back regularly. The owner is Italian and is a kind, considerate owner who clearly loves to make people happy. I called prior to ordering my food to confirm Illianos offered curbside ordering. When I arrived and called to notify I was ready to pickup my curbside order, the restaurant refused to bring my food outside and hung up on me. My wife called, asked for the same, and was also hung up on. I went to the door and asked for a manager but was told none were on site. Someone else from the staff then asked me what was wrong, retrieved my food, and said it was a "miscommunication" and said they were "too busy for curbside" and wouldn't be offering it anymore soon. I understand being busy, but that does NOT excuse lying about curbside pickup (safety during a literal pandemic), and does NOT excuse hanging up on a pre-paid customer TWICE. read more

Not our first trip to Illiano's but certainly our most disappointing. Started with an order of calamari which were fabulous. Moved on to salads, mostly spinach but still very good. When our entrees arrived, we were both saddened by the state of our fish dinners. My scrod was slightly overcooked but the sauce and pasta were very tasty. But my spouse's fish was mush. We debated about sending it back but the restaurant was packed and we had already spent over an hour there. The fish was clearly overcooked but I think it had been frozen solid for a while also. The pasta and sauce for her plate were fine, but the fish sank the entree. We will probably return at some point as their calamari is superb. read more

I decided to write three stars ONLY because of the pizza (I am not able to select two and a half). A week or so ago I got the regular italian dishes and they were amazing! Now back to the pizza, I ordered the chicken and broccoli and wasn't a fan of the broccoli not being cooked. The overall flavor was a little bland and didn't knock my socks of like their incredible Italian dishes. As you can see in the photo there are whole quarters of garlic on the pizza that didn't do anything positive to the flavor. Based off of my experience today. Ugh... difficult to review. The people that work there are crazy nice, and the food I have always found to be very good; the problem I have is the last two times I ordered take-out my order was messed up. Ordered a bacon sub with no cheese for my son and he said it was great; for myself and my daughter I ordered a white veggie pizza and and order of fried mozzarella & zucchini, as we do not eat meat. I know I should have checked my order, but as the gentleman behind the counter gave me my order he was reading it back to me, so I assumed it was correct. Anyway, the fried mozzarella & zucchini order when we got home was a meatball and a sausage smothered in cheese. My daughter and I won't eat it, as it is meat, and my son is allergic to dairy, so he can't eat it due to the cheese. So it wound up in the trash. I had no desire to drive back to the restaurant and change it. We were hungry. Now I know mistakes happen, but twice in a row now... makes me hesitant to order take out from them again; and that stinks, as we do love the food here, and as I said... the people are super nice that work there. Great place to go if you dont like flavor. The pizza is always unimpressive and the dough is always dry and tasteless. I'm pretty sure they don't season anything or have ever heard of basil or oregano. This is a bummer to review, but this place has gone downhill in the last couple years. The people who work there are always really nice. Today we ordered four grinders and a small cheese pizza through the "Slice" app (was offered a discount for ordering online, so we figured we'd give it a try). Instead of a turkey grinder, we were given tuna. We were charged $4 extra for onions, mushrooms and pepper for a philly sub and there were 2 sliced peppers and no mushrooms to be found - if they didn't cost extra, I wouldn't have cared as much, but that's half the cost of the entire grinder for toppings that didn't even end up being put on. The chicken cutlet grinder arrived with no mayo, even though it was requested. The bread was hard as a rock on all four of the grinders. All in all, it was just a bummer. The pizza was good, no complaints there. This is definitely the last time I'll be ordering from here, which is a shame since we used to make Illiano's in our normal pizza rotation. read more
