On a whim the husband and I decided to try this place on a week night. We tried the stuffed vegetable puff and the pork with leak leaves from their special menu and the curry noodles with chicken. On the whole I absolutely loved the vegetable puff and the Khoa Soy noodles. The pork with leak leaves were very flavourful but I found the leaves a little too chewy. The place is decorated very well. My only complain was that our waitress seemed a little rushed despite the place being only 25% occupied at the most, we did not get our water refilled even once. I very much enjoyed my dining experience here and even though I didn't have much of an appetite I decided to try a tom yum shrimp soup, steamed rice and one of the very BEST thai iced teas I've ever had in Chicago. I did however think my soup was a little too hot and fiery so maybe the chef here should consider offering a milder version for customers with sensitive stomachs like me. The staff here is very attentive to your needs and super friendly and I'd definitely love to return here again whenever I return to Andersonville because I'd love to try more appetizers. The only thing that irked and puzzled me was my server's insistence I pay my bill within the first 15 minutes I sat down to eat my soup. She was also very anxious for me to physically sign my receipt immediately. I am going to assume here it's nothing personal but maybe because the area is so close to Argyle and a little sketchy they may been stiffed... . their final bill with previous clients. This is truly a 3.5 review. Thai food is one of my favorite types of cuisine so I am willing to make the trek all the way to Uptown for it. But seriously, Logan Square and Wicker Park need to get some Thai food here! The ambience and interior is nothing super exciting, but people are here for the food of course. Service is okay. I remember coming here awhile back when they were busy and they were kind of rude when announcing there was a wait, but when I was finally able to come back here, the service was decent. I ordered the herbal iced tea and it was really flavorful and herbaceous. We started with the vegetarian egg rolls and they were pretty good, but nothing super exciting. They were nice and crispy though. They have a fair amount of vegetarian and pescatarian options, which was wonderful. There are some dishes here on the menu that I haven't seen at some of the other Thai restaurants I have been to so there's definitely an authenticity here. Their entrees were both delicious and soothing. We ordered the Khao Soy and the Pad Khee Mao. The Khao Soy was incredibly comforting, the broth was delightful and full of flavor. The noodles inside soaked up the flavor well and the crispy noodles on top added diversity in texture. The tofu in there was good, but I would have liked for there to be more in there since it was the vegetarian version of the soup. The raw onions on top were okay but I don't think they were necessary and would have liked if they were seasoned or something less pungent. I did love the chili sauce served on the side that was definitely spicy and satiating. The Pad Khee Mao was also very delicious with an abundance of crispy, well-sauteed vegetables. I also loved the noodle texture and the tofu was nice and firm. It was served with peppercorn, which I hadn't had before and found it to be interesting. After spending a few months in Thailand, I was very happy to discover this place. It definitely brings back memories of all the food stalls around Bangkok. Since being there I've been very picky about Thai food, especially in Chicago where most Thai places are quite Americanized. I was excited to see that Immm offered Som Tum, and not just the original Som Tum but you choose from a few toppings, and spiciness level. We also ordered the Pad See Eiw which was really good and had that smoky flavor that it's supposed to. I'mmm (lol) giving Immm Rice and Beyond 4 stars. I have eaten here 3-4 times, and each time I was happy with their selections that they had out for that day. I feel like the food is very authentic. Most "Thai" restaurants' menus consist of the typical noodles (ie pad thai, pad woon sen, etc), but Immm offers the stuff that I can imagine you can find on the streets in Thailand. That might not sound very appetizing, but believe me, it is! I have a very "grown up Asian palate"-which basically means I like the potent stuff... The stinkier, the better! Not that their food stinks... just trust me and try them! There aren't many places you can go and have some "real" papaya salad made. By "real", I mean authentic, with it being super spicy and made with crabs, dried shrimp, shrimp paste, fish sauce, etc. Go here and ask them to make it the "Laos" way...and they won't disappoint! The prices are very affordable. Although you can order off of their chalkboard menu, they also have food already made that is showcased, which you can have samples of before ordering. They have different sizes, with the larger size being maybe $5-7. Very affordable! This allows you to try a bunch of different, delicious, authentic Thai food. Really good Thai street food. One of the best Thai restaurants in Chicago. This place offers very legit Thai curries. We tried their Thai lunch plates and fried chicken. The lunch plate is a very good deal since you'll get to try a few different things ($9.5 for rice with two sides). We got Kua Kling (+$1, ground pork with spicy curry paste), Gaeng Kiew Whan Gai (green curry with chicken), Kai Loog Kuey (fried hard boiled egg with sweet sauce), and Gaeng Gai Normai (yellow curry with chicken and bamboo shoot). If you want to pick yours, try one meat and one curry combination. Everything was very legit. The food tasted just like or better than those in Bangkok, which means it can be a bit spicy for those who are not used to Thai spiciness. The nice thing is that they also allow you to taste the curries first so you'll get to see if you can handle the heat before ordering. Second thing we tried was the fried chicken. The fried chicken was heavenly! Out of this world. I almost cried when I ate it. This tasted just like what I had in Thailand. This was not like fried chicken that you get from Popeye's or Harold's. This was not breaded, the chicken was marinated and perfectly fried. I'm amazed that they have managed to perfectly cook every pieces of chicken I had that day. It never occurred to us to get Thai food in argyle (we usually hit up the usual Vietnamese restaurants) until someone recommended Immm to us. I'm so glad we tried it out! The menu has the basics that you would find at other Thai restaurants such as chicken satay and pad Thai, but it also has more "street" food options and has selections that you usually won't find at typical Thai places. My favorite dish was the papaya salad with the preserved crab. They have spice levels 1-5 and even 2 was a bit much for me even though I consider myself pretty good with spicy food. The pad kee mao was delicious as well. We also got chicken satay because my husband wanted it. I'm not usually a fan of satay because I think it's overpriced and usually dry, but the skewers were tender and probably the best chicken satay I've had. I like that they have a full size or a tasting size of all their curries. We ended up getting 2-3 tasting sizes to share across the table. You can even taste it before you order if you'd like! Will definitely come back just for the papaya salad and to try more of the other entrees! read more

I wrote a needlessly long review for this place, realizing upon completion that I was burying the lede. This is, to my knowledge, the best and most challenging Thai restaurant in the States outside of the Los Angeles area. You walk in, you see the sign for grilled brains, and you know they aren't pulling punches. The spice is right. The funk is right. The price is right. And the ladies behind the counter will gladly provide samples of their food upon request, which is advisable if your only experience with Thai is in Chicago. This is major fuckin' league, and to this point, y'all've been playin' A-Ball. Take a few practice swings. A scene changer that will probably never receive due fanfare. Finally found a non-Americanized Thai food restaurant! Everything is awesomely delicious! My favorites are the fried chicken skin, paa lo and Thai iced milk tea. It's also surprising that they offer Khao Rad Gang, aka lunch plate, for which you can pick up to 3 dishes and choose different base from white rice to noodle. The lunch plate in Chinese restaurants is usually my go-to-food when I don't know what to eat. Now I guess their lunch plate will become my new go-to-food. Welcome to Thailand! Hands down some of the most authentic Thai food in Chicago and I am Thai so you can trust me. When I ate there, I felt like Madonna and I want to sing 'you must be my lucky star.' IMMM means full in Thai and I can tell you I was so IMMM after leaving. Get the milk green tea, crispy pork, and boat noodles. After hearing so many great reviews from my Thai friends I decided I must go here. We went for lunch on a weekday and saw that the restaurant was about 3/4 full. We were greeted by the friendly staff as well as the intoxicating aroma of food that took me back to my family's kitchen when I was a child. The first thing that I read on the wall was their approach to the food was focused on being uncompromisingly authenticity. Yes! They could tell it was our first time so they were very helpful in explaining the options and some of the best dishes. We decided to go with the lunch special with three entrées served over jasmine white rice. You can also pick Jasmine Brown rice or noodles. For the three entrées we selected Paa Lo, Pad Kra pow, tae Poe. We also ordered boat noodles, moo grab (crispy pork), milk green tea and Thai iced tea to drink. We were told to have a seat and the food would be out shortly. It must've been a combination of the 80° weather, The Decor and the food which made me feel like I was in Thailand. There is an awesome mural which combines traditional Thai themes with a modern look and there were place cards to identify the tables that also taught you how to say certain letters in the Thai alphabet, which was fun. As the drinks came out they were in mason jars and I kid you not, when I had the first sip of the milk green tea I experienced true euphoria and potential enlightenment. This is not an over exaggeration. I closed my eyes and I thought to myself of all the places I have milk tea, usually at Boba places, and this is what I always wished it would taste like. My wife's Thai iced tea was really good as well. The crispy pork came out with a sweet sauce and this is how you do crispy pork. The main entrées and the boat noodles came out and we were so excited to eat. they also gave us the boat noodle Fixin' sauces which have sugar, dried chili, and my favorite the Thai Pepper and fish sauce. I have to say, the boat noodles took me to another planet of flavor which I will now call Juplavor. I make boat noodles at home and I've had it in Thailand and dare I say this is one of the best bowls of boat noodles I've ever had. Period. There was so many levels and flavors and the broth was much richer without being salty. All three entrées were delicious and the portion was very generous for a lunch special. It goes without saying that I will be here again I actually told my wife after eating thar I wanted to move next door so I could eat it every day. I ordered a milk green tea to go, paid with credit card and confessed my love for their food. People always ask me where is the best Thai food (still include Medee & Ruk). My friend and I dined at Immm Rice & Beyond, a bit of déjà vu for us as we have both dined at this location when it was called Thai Avenue. While Thai Avenue was pretty good with the standards, Immm travels down a slightly more interesting and adventurous path with its selections of Thai street food and an emphasis on daily specials. Immm means "I'm full" in Thai, and although I was not super full after the meal I was pretty satisfied after ordering a bunch of different dishes. Once you walk in, they ask if you have ever eaten there before, as the concept of ordering cafeteria-style might seem a bit odd at first. They also mention that several of their dishes are authentically spicy, so being a wimp in that regard I asked what were some of their milder selections on their table. They let me try a sample spoonful of the broth from two of these dishes, and since they tasted good enough and neither made me cry I ordered "tasting size" portions of these two items. I liked the Panang Mhoo (Penang curry with pork) better, a reddish curry dish with some kick but easily handled by my taste buds. The Gaeng Kiew Whan Gai (green curry with bone-in chicken, bamboo shoots, Thai basil) was slightly milder, and good enough though I was not that keen on leafing through the bits of chicken bone. Though most would probably opt for a side of rice, I chose the Kanom Jeen noodles, thin rice noodles that seemed to match up well enough with my curries. My friend liked her Pad Thai well enough, and we enjoyed our beverages. The Thai milk green tea was sort of like a drinkable green tea ice cream beverage, and fortunately I do like that sort of flavor. For dessert we ordered the "in season" sticky rice with mango, and the rice was especially sticky and glutinous in texture to contrast with the smooth slices of fresh mango. The service at Immm is very pleasant, attentive and informative. Immm is a very nice addition to the Argyle Street dining scene, and I expect to be back trying some other off-the-wall dishes (yes indeed, keep an eye on the wall for specials, or just ask for a look). The most important thing you need to know about Immm is that when you eat here, you better not be starving and impatient because as you sit there, you'll get progressively more and more ANGRY at how long the food is taking, but only because you want to be eating is SOO badly. Their system is infuriatingly inefficient. If you eat in, it's full service. But if you get take out, you browse the food and order in a cafeteria-style line. The person manning the line/talking to the take out customers also scoops the food for your server. And there are only 2 servers in a pretty big dining room, running around. Maybe you're better off getting take out. Both times I came, I got so mad that the take-out people, by virtue of being right up at the counter taking up the person's attention, are all getting served before I can even flag down a server to put in my order. Anyway. You've been warned. But the food is GOOD! It's rustic, extremely flavorful, and authentic as far as I know. I LOVE the boat noodle here, so much that once, I ordered a small, stuffed myself with a full meal, and still ordered 1 more at the end. In terms of other foods, I highly recommend trying with the tasting portions family style. I don't think you can go wrong with anything (except the fermented fish entrails stew, that one is not for the faint of heart). Most of the dishes are saucy, and the sauces are delicious spooned over rice. You will get to eat a lot of variety and stuff yourselves easily. I also like the noodles, but you don't get a lot of noodles per portion. Papaya salad is funky, savory, and refreshing. Almost everything we had were delicious. Definitely a restaurant to try. So I went this past weekend with some really good friends, one of them is Thai (as I wanted to get the opinion from a non farang). Once you walk in you see the som tum bar, which was really impressive. They have about 10 different variations of this salad (one of my favorite dishes). Then you get to the main area where they have 8-10 dishes. As I saw a previous review state the food servings are small, I decided to ask how much you get. It is 2 scoops from the serving spoon for each entree. Since its $8 for 1 entree, $9.50 for 2, and $11 for 3 entrees, we went with the 3. Otherwise you're really just paying lots for some rice. We ended up each getting a drink. Two thai coffees and one chrysanthemum tea. My coffee was perfect, not too sweet but enough sweetened condensed milk. Plus shaved ice instead of cubes. We got three dishes and shared them family style. 1. Som Tum (the 2nd one on their menu, with crab) 2. Pad Thai with shrimp 3. 3 entree platter (Kobocha squash, the egg and pork belly dish, catfish) The Som Tum was great, but I think I prefer the small (preserved) shrimp and peanuts compared to the crab as it was mostly shell. I'll order it again. The Pad Thai was the real deal, not the version that is too wet (they were Hæng/ ). I was impressed because I know the effort my friend goes through when she decides to make the dish). Finally the entree plate. I'd get the squash and cat fish again. Decided to try this place for delivery tonight and was hugely disappointed when compared to other go-to Thai food places in the neighborhood. Just couldn't find anything to be happy about with our choices. Pot stickers were dry and cold. Their Tiger Cry was an insultingly small portion and cold. We usually do our asian grocery shopping in Uptown either once a month or once every month, but before we even start, we find somewhere within the area to eat first. I found this gem on Yelp, only because I was craving a noodle dish and something thai. I was with my family and I and 3 of us ordered the boat noodles. It comes in 2 sizes, I opted for the smaller bowl at $5 and it was still fulfilling! The only other time I've had boat noodles was in Vegas and I fell in love. The flavors were all pact into one where you don't even need to put any other seasoning in it. I thought the flavors of the one in Vegas would be hard to beat, until I came to Immm! It was beyond my expectations. The broth was exactly to my liking from the sweetness, to the saltiness, and even the spice. It had a little kick, but I did add a little more crushed pepper to kick it up a notch. Prior to getting the boat noodles, we ordered some appetizers. Definitely tried the fried pork skin and it was amazing! We got 2 orders and ate them like chips. Fresh off the fryer and dipped it in the siracha sauce it came with. My mom had some dried noodles thing and that was also delicious and my husband wanted to try the pig brains since they ran out of the pig intestines. Now this is the only reason it is a 4 star rating..we thought everything else was to our liking til we tried the steamed pig brains in banana leaf. First, they grilled it instead of steamed and grilled it too long. When we opened it, the char on the bottom of it ended up burning the actual meat and herbs in it. He ate it with sticky rice and the taste didn't event help. It tasted too dry and burnt, though he ate it all because he didn't want to waste it, we wouldn't order again. The flavors were too bland to our liking. We are hoping next time we come, they'll have the pig intestines. "Immm" (which means "I'm full" in Thai) is new restaurant to hit Little Vietnam. I went for lunch on their third day of opening. There are several kinks to work out but Immm shows much promise. I spent two months visiting my family in Thailand earlier this year. I was excited to see a Thai restaurant that serves street food. That's all I ate. At Immm, you won't find any of the crab rangoon, miso soup or dragon rolls BS. This is only Thai food. Immm is a self-serve restaurant. Almost. When you walk in, start at the front of the "food bar". You can choose food from it or order off the menu. If you do the latter, the wait staff will bring it to your table. Like Chipotle, you have to clean after yourself. Their menu is extensive, ranging from classic noodle dishes to regional and street food favorites. I had Khao Soi, which is a popular noodle dish in Northern Thailand made with egg noodles, vegetables in a coconut milk broth. I also ordered Som Tom (papaya salad). They have a "Som Tom"-making station near the register. Immm had Pa Lo (a Chinese-Thai dish my mother makes), Yen Ta Fo (a very hard to find noodle soup in pink broth), Penang (Red Curry), Larb Moo (Pork Salad) and others. If you love noodles and curry, I highly suggest getting the Khanom Jin. They'll top rice noodles with your choice of curry. It's delicious! A word of warning, Immm is not vegetarian-friendly. Not yet, anyway. They're going to expand their vegetarian options come the New Year. They are accommodating and they will happily substitute meat for tofu but nearly every dish will contain fish sauce or shrimp paste. Som Tom can be made without fish sauce and it's pretty spot on. If you order from the menu, be mindful that Thai food takes time to prepare. Immm isn't Panda Express. If you know anything about Thai food, it has a lot of ingredients. If I want Thai food in a hurry, I'll go to my neighborhood restaurant where everything has already been prepared. The service is quite friendly and the prices are very reasonable. I was happy to see many Thai people eating at the restaurant. That rarely happens. I honestly can't wait to come back with my family and friends. Two of us spent 60 dollars, left still not full. I think this should really be a $$$ establishment. We ordered the grilled fish wrapped in banana leaf and herb. It was very salty. Couldn't taste much beyond the salt. For $12, we got a piece of fish the size of half a deck of card. The curry ($5), pig collar (9), and crispy pork belly (5) were good, but also very salty and in tiny portions. For $2, you get a small portion of sticky rice the size of a child's fist. We had to order 2 just to drawn out the salt... The Mango sticky rice came in satisfactory portion for one person... until I found out it was $7. It had good flavors. There was only tiny amount of coconut cream on top of rice, none was mixed into the rice. Thai ice tea ($3) came in a jar instead of a tall glass. Cute presentation, but held about half the amount of tea as tall glasses other restaurants use. I am still drinking so much water hours later ... Both of us are below BMI 23, eat reasonable amounts and have no binge eat disorder. read more

Order a fairly large number of items on the menu but I thought the food overall was mediocre. I would give it 3.5 out 5. It is above average for Thai street food especially for this area but I don't think it's one of my top favorites. The service was ok. The best dish on their menu has to be the pork collar dish with pepper sauce. read more

The starters are very overpriced. I ordered $8 curry puffs and not only did it take extremely long but the portion was absolutely tiny. Only 3 small dumpling bites for $8... I definitely don't think you get what you pay for here. read more
