We had the spaghetti it was underportioned, a little under season,. presentation its also something that could improve. We also had one of their pizzas, it was good. Drinks, were expensenaive and not really good, one of our drinka was really bitter. Ambiance, its pretty. Service, started off a little slow, but then got into a good rhythm, I wish they have something that they would say this is what we want you to try, or something that will make them stand out. I don't know how I've managed to wait so long to try Terun's delightful "Impasto" restaurant, which we are so lucky to have in our San Carlos community! First timer this week, and my oh my that beet salad is EXCELLENT. I was beyond thrilled to see such a perfectly sized dish loaded full with yummy juicy red beets, paired and dressed deliciously, on a bed of big greens, sprinkled with goat cheese and nuts. I couldn't stop myself from devouring ~ I suspect I'll continue to order this dish so often I might eventually turn into a beet myself! Service / staff were very friendly, kind, helpful, and had lovely energy. I picked up togo but the ambiance inside has definitely and easily convinced me I MUST return to dine inside. We are HUGE Terun and Italico fans so we were very excited to have Impasto a bit closer to home. We came in for lunch the first weekend they were open and had a lovely experience. Aesthetically the restaurant is beautiful inside. You really feel like you have been transported to A different city and are not in sleepy San Carlos. I really miss the days of when restaurants demonstrated exceptional service and hospitality. Impasto excels at both, just like Terun and Italico. Consistency & hiring great staff is a lost art X We started with the fresh made bread in house and herb butter. The bread came out warm and so fresh. The rigatoni was the star of the show. Perfection on so many levels. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant group. We have a lot of great food on the mid Penn now. Impasto Terun and Italico will always be in our rotation. This place is like going to a best restaurant in Florence but much closer to home. A home builder that is working on our house told us about it that they installed an outdoor patio for them and told us that their food was out of this world and encouraged us to go look it up and we did  glad we did, recently opened like a couple of weeks I believe and their food is simply amazing. Its like having the best italian food and hospitality right here.  Was greeted by whom I believe was the owner with an Italian accent and super nice person. Told him our builder recommended us. Reservation is recommended but he sat us down and we had an amazing meal and great service.  Go there before it gets to be one of the busiest around and you would probably have to wait hours to get in. read more

What a wonderful restaurant! Elegantly decor with amazing hard working friendly staff. A true restaurant where you genuinely feel like they are there to serve you and give you everything they have to offer. Wait staff is very knowledgeable on the ingredients and how the food is prepared. We had their pizza and bolognese lasagna. Incredible! The bolognese was layered with warm rich hardy flavors. Eat it slowly to savor it all. We enjoy red wines and they offer a very nice selection. Arrive early because the restaurant stays busy as the night goes on. We had such a fabulous experience our first time here and are eager to return. One of our new favorite places in San Carlos. First, the focaccia bread was to die for, get it. The pesto octopus pasta was perfectly al dente. The pizza (made from the right kind of flour from Italy) was so delicious. The restaurant is beautiful and we enjoyed the outdoor patio. Impasto in San Carlos was a great find! We were looking for someplace new and friend recommened this place. The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. My wife had the Branzino and said it was cooked perfectly. I opted for the Calabrian Pizza and wow! The spicy sausage with the peppers and mozzarella was amazing. We shared a bottle of wine and some appetizers too (the calamari were especially good) Overall, a really enjoyable experience. We'll definitely be back! read more

This new addition to San Carlos deserves praise. Having now visited several times since they opened, I can say the team here consistently turns out high quality food and a positive experience. To be frank, there is a lot of mediocre Italian food in the area that seem to earn inflated ratings, but Impasto actually delivers where many others fall short. While I cannot speak for every menu item, the pizza, pasta, and appetizer dishes I have tried have all been well-executed and largely authentic. Other pluses include a tastefully designed interior, with modern but welcoming decor. And the attention from the service team is nice, especially these days when many other restaurants seem to be running a skeleton crew of overworked staff. Someone from the ownership team appears to be present most of the time, and much of the staff are Italian as well, both of which probably help with operations. The team is obviously putting a lot of effort into making this opening successful and I hope they keep up the momentum! read more

We took our 3 young kids to check out Impasto. We have pretty low expectations for any meal out with 3 little kids but the staff at Impasto was attentive, interested in our kids, and accommodating. Maico went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and special and it's clear how passionate he is about his restaurant. The food was great, and we have a variety of special diets in our family (vegan, dairy allergy, nut allergy). Patio was lively and the kids loved watching the train. We ordered from Impasto to go and unfortunately won't be returning. The food was inedible, cold even though we live 5 mins away. The eggplant was tough and chewy. The Brussel sprouts were mushy and seemed to be reheated, the fries and pizza were horrible. My pizza loving 2 year old wouldn't even eat the Mickey pizza. We had such a lovely first meal at Impasto! Giuseppe introduced himself to us and made us feel so welcome. The beet salad and the grilled romaine salads were both fresh and tasty. The bufala pizza was just as lovely as the pizza at their other restaurant Terun. I think a great kitchen can be measured by the quality of the sides they produce and the broccoli rabe was well cooked and seasoned. We finished with their lovely tiramisu and some amaro. If you are looking for great food, lovely ambiance, and friendly service for a special occasion, look no further! Impasto by Terun is a great choice for a fun meal. First, the food. We ordered the Tricolore pizza and the spaghetti. The spaghetti was great tasting- albeit a small portion for the cost. It was perfectly al dente and the sauce was tangy and flavorful. The Tricolore pizza was awesome! It had a crispy crust and was topped with fresh arugula and burrata. We added some chili oil and flakes as well. For drinks, we brought our own wine, adding on a corkage fee of $30. Next, the service. We had a reservation and were led almost immediately to our table. The server was extremely prompt and incredibly friendly, and he even took the time to learn everyone in our party's names. Lastly, the ambiance. Our table was indoors and was directly next to the kitchen window. It was fascinating to see how the chefs made each order and all of the pizzas being hand tossed! In conclusion, Impasto had great food, service and ambiance, but was a bit pricy for the quantity of food. Would highly recommend if you are in the area and are craving Italian food! read more

Decided to try the pizza here one more time on a weekend and again it is completely disappointing, bland, congealed cheese, crust missing its chewiness. I'm convinced at this point that either the team cooking on the weekend is not as good as the weekday team or they just can't keep up the quality with the high demand. Super disappointing. The pizza has been phenomenal all of the weeknights I've ordered on in the past. Hoping if I just try a weekday again that it will be the excellent quality again. I've found my place! My husband and I had dinner there as we had it on our list of places to go and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Everyone is so fun and friendly. Having just returned from a trip to Italy, it felt like we were back in Europe. The menu has amazing choices and tasted like authentic Italy. Very very poor quality and taste. Went a few weeks back as a group of 6, made a reservation, sat outside. Seating good, warm heaters, but food very mediocre and lacklustre in taste. Italian food (what i have eaten over many trips to Italy) has to be made with love and heart and soul. It's very simple rustic food basically, so quality has to be very good for it to shine and be satisfying. This one felt like either the chef is not from Italy or was just going about his paces without any involvement. - Food too oily, low salt - no italian food in italy is ever low in salt - calamarata more uncooked than al dente - ravioli boring - cauliflower au gratin - charred cauliflower, sauce not creamy not delicious like you expect it , too dry - fried calamari - very ordinary - margherita pizza - decent - tiramisu - just ok, had an odd taste, i have had way better Of all the things the focaccia was not bad. I will not ever come back, and will definitely not recommend. I have been once to Italico, their sister restaurant, a few years back, and thought food was good, but who knows if their quality has also tapered down. After eating at Impasto, I heard from friends that Terun, the other restaurant in the group has not been able to maintain their quality of late. Badly regretted picking this restaurant, as we were craving good italian food and came away very upset. read more

A return visit after a not so satisfactory previous visit. To be fair, first visit was fairly soon after their opening. Happy to report that this time we found everything to be spot on! It helped to be seated inside - oh my - what a sophisticated and elegant setting! Almost couldn't believe I was in San Carlosand not in some trendy big city... Our server Gabby did an excellent job making sure we were well taken care of and everyone else who served our table was friendly and very professional. Great service!
