Let me tell you .. in a nut shell, save yourself time and hire this team. My family and I moved this weekend. We were leaving a four bedroom home with two young kids. I am not a hoarder and I generally keep things pretty minimum but you do not realize how much stuff you have until you start filling boxes. I am old now and so are my friends so gone are the days I rent a U haul and solicit my friends with beer and pizza. It's hard enough juggling packing and young kids. I contacted atleast a dozen moving places via Yelp. Save your time and research, I did it. Some were outrageously priced but Impel and a couple of others were in the same ballpark. I have learned all moving companies will charge you a minimum of 3 hrs. You can choose between 3 or 4 movers (more movers, more money, but may be faster?) Impel had solid positive reviews here on Yelp. I met w/ Dennis via zoom and he was very professional, patient, and realistic. I had this silly thought that everything was going to be done in one trip and be less than 3 hours. I was WRONG. I had a lot of stuff ... the movers were professional, on time, and MOVING. No pun intended =P They followed my wants and asked clarifying questions when something needed additional discussion. Nothing was damaged. We finished in the 5 hour range I think? I don't even remember anymore. This is with ME bringing just about EVERYTHING to the garage and wrapping furniture and TV's. I was happy with the entire situation. I don't intend to move again... Bad moving company - Slow - took the entire day to pack up my one bedroom and a few items in the kitchen. No living room furniture. - Not careful - had a box of glassware with labeled top and bottom sides. They didn't care and left it upside down. - Poor communication - they left to go to where I was moving my stuff to without telling me. - Don't follow instructions - there were items I told them not to pack but they packed them anyways. I used Brother Movers once before Impel and then went back after Impel: - Impel didn't go as fast. Brothers were clearly trying to go as fast as possible. Their moving technique was much more efficient than impel. Brothers are experts at using plastic wrap to bunch items together to move at once. - Impel didn't have the same equipment that brothers had. Impel has several blankets but not enough. Brothers protected all my furniture with blankets. - I've used Brothers twice and had great experiences both times. The one time I used Impel, I was left really upset and frustrated. - All these ppl giving impel 5 stars probably haven't used brother movers. TL;dr - avoid impel. Brother movers is better. read more

Scheduled a last minute move (next day) from Berkeley to San Francisco and Impel replied quickly and were able to fit us in. They called before arrival and came on schedule. They moved us from a one-bedroom apartment into a two-bedroom, in the same building and hallway. They called to let me know when they would be arriving, although the actual start time was about a half hour later than the original time frame given (early morning). Our driver/crew lead was Aidan. He worked with Akim. They are friendly and efficient workers. We had done most of our stuff other than furniture ahead of time, so it only took them about an hour! Of course, I still had to pay the 3 hour minimum (I paid the cash rate $115/hr + $50 fuel fee + tips). We've moved many times in the last five years, and overall, this went pretty well for us. read more

This is the second time I've had book with Impel Moving in the last year and they do not disappoint. They are extremely fast, meticulous, careful, and professional. I've had a different duo help me each time, and they were both great. You do not need to request anyone in particular because their whole team is fantastic. Moving is so stressful, but they take the weight off your shoulders and do it so effortlessly. My new apartment had a long carry and is at the end of an insanely long hallway and by no means did they slow down or complain in any way. They also broke down the charges at the end which I found very transparent, and there are no hidden fees. Max and his team were amazing! I did a 3 person move for my 1 bedroom apartment for a quicker move. The price was $165/hr CASH and $170/hr CARD. There is also the double time while driving. The total time was about 6 hours and 15 minutes. They offer boxes but you do have to pay for them. Small box 1.5 cuft $2 Medium cuft $3 Large 4.5 cuft $4 I had already packed all my items in my apartment. I moved my TV in my car because it was my most expensive item and I didn't want to risk breaking it. The drive was about 1 hour from my old apartment to my new apartment. They Saran wrapped all my furniture to ensure no damage. They also broke down and set up all of my furniture extremely quickly. Despite being in a time crunch for the last hour of my move due to a hiccup with my leasing office with the loading dock, Max and his team finished quickly and smoothly! Max reassured me about the process of the move each step of the way. The crew was very professional and did everything quickly and safely. They definitely knew what they were doing! As someone that was a mover here in the Bay Area for 2 years, I've seen the good, the bad, and the downright ugly when it comes to moving companies. I'd give Impel an 11/10 if I could! We had a 1 bed/ 1 bath that was moved across town. They showed up on time, kept an extremely accurate time clock, moved all of our items with care (not a single thing broken or ding'd!), and we're incredibly polite throughout the process. The initial booking procedure was super professional as well. In about 10 minutes they had given me an accurate quote, and confirmed several times leading up to the actual move. As someone that has been a part of and on the receiving end of nightmare moving experiences, the whole experience was so refreshing. I chose this company because they had great reviews and their pricing was more reasonable than other companies. The reservation process was very nice - I spoke with David and Adam when scheduling the move and they were very informative and efficient in providing the quote. The movers (team of 4) arrived in the pretty close (8:15am) to the window quoted (between 7:30 - 8am). They were friendly and contentious, however moved at quite a relaxed pace. When I moved into my house in the Berkeley Hills the move-in took ~8 hours total. These guys took more than 8 hours just to pack the trucks - which was way longer than I expected. They took a few "10 min breaks" which were more like 20 min and a 45 min lunch, which is understandable given how hard this work is, but I had planned an early morning start time to avoid the rush hour traffic going to the storage unit, and will all the delays they didn't start driving till 4:45pm - worse timing possible. When comparing to many prior moves these guys were just slower. We had a safe that weighted 280 lbs. They charged us $300 extra to bring that down. I was surprised, as the prior movers had not charged us extra to move it up the stairs onto the 2nd floor when we moved in a few years back. So make sure you really understand all the extra charges when you book. You also need to manage what items you want bubble wrapped and what you don't. We ended up paying $150 extra for bubble wrap and another $150 extra for blankets, which we were not expecting, especially as some of the things they took time to bubble wrap really didn't need it. Same was true of the shrink wrap - this didn't cost extra, but it did lead to extra time spend. We had a lot of stuff and the movers had to arrange things strategically to fit it all into our storage unit - they did do a great job with this part, and we were thankful for that. , All in all, the move went okay, however it did take more time than prior, similar moves and cost quite a bit more than we expected. read more

Our crew of four did an EXCELLENT job. We moved from a two story house to a four story house so there were lots of stairs and steep inclines on both streets, but they handled it all with ease. They hustled, working really hard and fast and with terrific, friendly, helpful attitudes. I recommend them 100%. Their rates were slightly higher than others but they did not add a bunch of last minute fees, so I think it all came out even in the end. I spent many hours reading reviews of all the moving companies and Impel had the fewest red flags. The back office is much more professional than others and they were very transparent about fees.
