I had planned to rate this business three stars, but I'm reducing my stars to a two because Yelp is automatically attaching green checkmarks that the service I received was quality and great value. Which is not true. Since yelp does not allow me to remove these green checks, I have reduced my stars so that there is no confusion that I would not recommend this business. I booked them for two moves one day apart. One moving from San Francisco to the East Bay, the second moving my partner, 10 blocks from their old place to our new place. I'll start with listing the good. The person I spoke with to schedule the move was kind, responsive, and answered all my questions. I received an electronic quote which was helpful to keep track of. On the day of the move, I got a text notification to let me know the movers were on their way. The movers were respectful and kind. Even though we didn't like our experience with Impel each move we still provided the movers with an 18% tip because their job isn't easy and very physically demanding. Also, I feel most of the issues we had were related to how the company functions and not because of the employees as individuals. Now, for the negative. As requested I sent a list of items that I would be moving, the amount of stairs at both locations, walkway structures and widths. I was told I would only need two movers for my one bedroom. Of note, when I pack, I am very organized. My boxes are labeled and categorized and stacked so that they're easy to pick up and move. I've moved well over 10 times in the SF Bay Area and my moves were fast and my movers have appreciated my organization. My moves- even across the Bay took max 5 hours (including drive time). This move took over eight hours, which is longer than I was quoted, (and there was no traffic at all!) I had wanted to hire three movers, but I was reassured that I would only need two moves based on my items I was moving. I feel this is a tactic that Impel uses because they make more money charging you for two movers for more hours then charging you for three movers for less hours. For me I'd rather pay for more movers if it means the move will be faster. When my movers packed my items, they wrapped so many things in plastic. Which, while the plastic is free, was unnecessary and just takes up time, which I also think is a strategy that the company uses to charge more. I'm not talking about my furniture being wrapped in plastic I'm talking sturdy sealed boxes. During my quote, I was reassured that protective covering would be placed on the floor to prevent any damage. This was never done during my move or my partner's move, despite repeated requests. My partner's move was even worse. Her move also took far longer than quoted only to move a few blocks, and they damaged so much of her property that yelp reimbursed her for the entire move. When she reached out to Impel regarding these damages, they were responsive, but not helpful, and eventually said that they would not be unable to pay for the damages. In the past I used Golden Bay Relocation and had a good experience. At the time of this move I remembered their name incorrectly and thought they'd gone out of business during COVID. I recently remembered their name correctly and looks like they are still around. read more

Three guys came a bit late due to tire troubles so I was a bit skeptical, but they got to work and it was amazing. They didn't waste time, they were fast, efficient, careful and timely. Ours was a complicated move with more boxes than furniture and a yard full of a large grill and planters. On top of that it rained. On top of that, we were moving into an already occupied home full of 20 years of accumulation - that didn't phase Maksim one bit - his declaration was that none of it was a problem. I had an excellent experience working with Impel Moving! From Dave immediately sending me a quote to Tim and his team of movers (Alex and Ronnie), everything went smoothly. Dave sent a confirmation text the day before the move. He also reassured me it was no problem to swap refrigerators and stoves at no additional cost; just the added time added to the total. Tim and his crew arrived on time and all were very respectful and careful of our items. It was the hottest week of the month (90 degrees!) and they all never had a bad attitude or complained. We even realized the stove couldn't fit and needed to have them swap it back and they never showed any frustration. They carefully wrapped and padded our items and none of them were scratched or damaged. We had a lot of stuff and many were very heavy. Our total move took 7.5 hours on a scorching day and they made the whole process so much more pleasant and less stressful. It was an overall 5-star service and I couldn't recommend them enough. Moved this June 2022. While everything appeared fine at first, upon unpacking, things got worse. I regret using their services, and will not consider them in the future. Details below : Successes : - Equipped, they have boxes, cushions, etc on hand for last minute requests - On-time - Got the job done Failures : - Fragile items : boxes that were clearly labeled "Fragile" were delivered upside down and/or with broken items (ex. broken dishes, cups, etc) - TV : My TV was damaged beyond repair during transit. The original packaging was provided, but was ignored out in favor of wrapped up blankets. Upon delivery, while the screen appeared fine, there ended up being 3x small holes that shattered the screen - Messy : Left some packaging material behind my former apartment - Recycle : Items were labeled for curb-side recycle pick-up were clearly labeled, some additional items that appeared similar were added without verification or confirmation from me directly Final verdict : - I will never be using, nor recommend Impel Movers For the amount of $$$ I paid (note : there is a minimum amount of hours for delivery), the quality was not great. Paul and his team helped our move of about 6 miles from a 2 story 2000sf house to 1800 tri level house and had its challenges. We boxed and disessembled 95% of our stuff and impel came and cleaned up the rest. They wrapped all the furniture in moving blankets and really came in and hit the ground running. Our quote was 6 to 8 hrs, and it took 8.5 hours, which was fine with me because these guys were not slacking at all and were going 100%. Lots of cheerful extras such as when I realized I had them set down my large, tall, heavy dresser in front of the one electrical outlet, they *very cheerfully* moved it again. Simularly, I chose a small middle bedroom ( it was in a quieter spot) for my bed, but it had a narrow doorway. The problem occurred several months later when I received an email and text message confirming "my move"...from a completely unknown address. But with my full name, email, and phone number on the quote. When I contacted them, they kept making excuses. All those excuses involved claiming that I had requested this quote and that I happened to share information with the customer who did, so it was just a "simple mixup." I did not request a quote for the addresses mentioned, and none of the details (including dates, size of move, and more) in this second mystery quote in any way matched mine from several months prior. Except for all of my personal information being used as that of the requester, the addresses involved and other details all belonged to someone else. Before this happened, I would've recommended them. Now, definitely not. Now I have serious questions about their security and how my information is being handled in their systems. read more

We had a very last-minute move, booking just 4-5 days in advance, moving from a single-level house in Richmond, to a small apartment on the third floor in Redwood City. The only negative thing to mention is that the arrival window was 2-3pm, and they ended up showing up at nearly 5pm. However, they stayed in communication the entire time, apologizing and offering a reschedule the next day. That wasn't an option for us, so they gave us 10% off, which was helpful. 3 movers arrived and were extremely polite, respectful, and very efficient. They packed everything up in about 1.5 hours, carefully wrapping the furniture in both moving blankets and industrial cellophane wrap. The dining room table was a little complicated to disassemble and move (I didn't even realize it needed to be disassembled), but they were very careful and meticulous. Overall, I was very happy with the crew! While being so late was a bit disappointing/annoying, they definitely made up for it! Also, our time window was 2-3pm, which is late for such a significant move, so it's understandable that other customers before us could totally throw off their schedule. She was very responsive and addressed every concern that I had; granted this is my first time using movers, so I have no idea what to expect. Sergei and his crew (3 others) arrived on time. They greeted me and were very professional. Just my luck (more like their luck), this was the hottest weekend since summer started in 2023. I guided them to each room and told them what needs to be moved and what needed to stay. I just used Impel Moving services on Jan. 10th to move 15 minutes within SF from a narrow ground floor apartment to a 3rd floor apartment with a tiny elevator and it was excellent. I had packed up everything when they arrived, but my furniture required significant disassembly due to small narrow hallway. I was impressed that Sergei and Alex automatically offered to reconfigure furniture differently at my new place, because they intuitively understood it would fit my new place better. They may have underestimated how many items I owned--I have a larger set of kitchen tools, so the initial time estimate was off, but they stayed and made sure everything was moved and reassembled. They communicated very well--asked about unique things and how to handle things when it was unclear. They were professional, I would highly recommend them. My only suggestion is to make sure you get packing boxes that are easy to move in and out of your units--I felt my boxes that I chose were a bit too big for my narrow first apartment which added a lot of time for them to maneuver out of there. In addition, though I saved my old original boxes for my bed frame, it was easier for them to wrap it manually instead of packing back into the box. If you have time, repack your things into old boxes you kept or just recycle them, because it becomes inefficient if they need to use your old boxes. 10/10 would recommend. read more

And worked hard the whole time they were moving my stuff and it was a very hot day. They could have been a bit more careful with my stuff, a few things were slightly damaged. Dennis and his partner made my day of moving run smoothly! Up until the day of the move, I had a lot of questions that I sent over and Dennis always responded back asap. Like other reviewers, he also brought me some boxes. The morning of he ran into some traffic and texted me to give me heads up so there were no surprises about running late. They moved my things quickly and carefully, wrapping and padding all of my big furniture so I didn't worry one bit about anything being scratched up or broken! I mostly packed up my things in boxes beforehand except for some loose kitchen appliances, random things in my closet, and lots of cleaning supplies in the bathroom and under my kitchen sink. For the things I didn't pack, they quickly swept those up in boxes and made sure that once when we were ready to go over the new place, the old place was quite literally emptied out! My one bedroom move took a total of 7 hours, including disassembling and assembling my bed, couch, and dining table. I literally sat there scrolling through my phone on the couch (until it was time for them to load it in the truck!) and then on the floor while they occasionally would come over and ask me where I wanted things. I did also run a couple Target errands since you don't actually need to be there the entire time. I would highly recommend impel moving! There were absolutely no surprises with pricing and I felt that they did an awesome job. read more
