I just bought a 1987 Toyota Supra, I went to multiple shops in the Sacramento/ Elk Grove area looking for a trustworthy mechanic I can go to for my old car issues including AC repair. I found out about the shop through Expert Automotive, I was recommended to Import Garage because of my car being an older japanese import. Original issue: my car overheated on me twice, spitting out nasty coolant. After some research amongst friends, forums, videos about my specific car. My engine is a 7GME, It is known to have bad head gasket issues along side oil lubrication concerns. So I take it to a shop looking for just multiple work. So after my recommendation to Import Garage, I meet with Jason whom is a cool dude who knows his stuff. He said he was able check my head gasket with a combustion test. Along side said he was able to retrofit my old R12 Freon. From the start it seems like Jason wanted to take safe precautions with me talking head gasket labor work. After a week Jason said they were NOT able to get my car to overheat. And they done a combustion test and it was not a BHG. So I did more research and it was basically a bad radiator causing the engine heat up. So I bought performance parts such as hose kit and mishimoto radiator kit with electric fans. Jason said they were able to install the parts all I needed was coolant. Basically they had my car a little OVER a month and ONLY worked 9 hours of labor work was done to my car. Everytime I called out of frustration I asked if it would be done and Jason always said they were always working on something within that month. I didn't mind at first because I just assumed they had other cars to work on ahead of me but he kept pushing it back each week. The excuse that bothered me the most was that they couldn't find a spot for my coolant resevoir AFTER saying they finally found a good spot for it. Then I went to go pick it up my car after leaving voicemails for not answering my calls back. It has been over a month and I was just happy to see my car again. Upon arrival, I had to wait another hour or so because they were finishing up my relay kit for the electric fans. No AC retrofit OR Reservoir .. Just the part I bought in were installed and THAT fixed my overheating issue. Jason and his shop never diagnosed my issue until I brought parts. The mechanics and Jason gave me talk about changes in my car but to me it sounded like they were just trying to kill time for last minute changes to get me out of there. So I just nodded along with what I already knew and just paid my bill and drove off.. They didn't even offer to let me keep my old parts or any remaining if any coolant. They did install the hose kit and radiator along side accessories but the communication and time it took made it a bad experience in the end. I waited a month to leave this review as I had time to think. Overall I would not be coming back to this shop due to my experience. I would only recommend this shop for simple car needs like tire or like changes but other than that I do NOT RECOMMEND leaving a jdm car for diagnosis or part replacements unless you wanna wait a month.. It is disappointing because I thought I found a respectable crew but in the end they prioritized their time and disregarded the information I gave them to avoid more labor work for "good" intentions regarding my car. Update: A week after leaving the shop my transmission started leaking, not sure why that was never addressed or diagnosed. read more

I hope this place has gotten better... The reviews seem to think so... This is a review from 2019. I took my SUV in to have a headlight diagnosed. Paid $115 for the diagnosis. I was told that the wiring harness was failing. They wanted to replace the whole headlight assembly which was like $350 (maybe more)... Then, when I picked up the truck, the airbag alert indicator was on!?! It was definitely not on when I pulled in to their shop. I called them and they said it was.... Long story short... after some troubleshooting of my own, I decided to buy a replacement ballast for the HID bulb that was having the issue. A $30 ballast from Amazon instantly fixed the issue. I have the same headlight assembly. I hope others are having better service. read more

Even during these crazy times of Covid and getting slammed with customers before me, he still took the time to acknowledge and keep me in the loop of the servicing progress. Called for transmission service on my 1999 Chrysler that was diagnosed with major transmission and brake problems from another shop (didn't like the service/location of said shop so I didn't return). They had me bring my car in and were willing to check it out prior to giving me an exact quote on what needed to be done to the car. Both guys who helped me were extremely friendly and were even willing to check on my brakes when I asked (even though they were only there to check on my transmission). I received second opinions that saved me and my car, and advice on what I could do next. I have been to quite a few car shops in my lifetime (I've own 3 different cars all dating back to the 1990's) and I've received all kinds of customer service regarding my cars. I can say none of them have left a better or friendlier impression on me than Import Garage. read more

I took my mentally ill brothers car here for a water pump issue. My brother had already taken it to Maita and they confirmed water pump was leaking. Maita quoted us 1200.00, so I told my brother we try and find someone cheaper. Was referred to Import by Expert automotive. Jason told me they would have to do $110.00 diagnostic on water pump even though Maita already diagnosed it for $80.00. So I get phone call at the end of day with a quote of $2,042.00 that also included a leaking turbo cooling line. Not sure why Maita did not find the leaky line. So I ended up approving the repairs. Went to pick up car and when I requested old parts, Jason said he would have to go dumpster diving. I asked Jason how many times I was charged $110.00 diagnostic charge. He looked at the bill and went right to line 2 and said, I owe you $275.00 back. He knew exactly where to find the deliberate mistake. I had to give him time to find old cooling line, he called me back to come get it. The line looks as if it does not leak and he pointed to an area of the hose that looks fine. I should have came to shop to have them show me the leak. I am going to pressure check it since I found them to be deceptive on the $385.00 diagnostic charge.. It is reprehensible to know that some shops have this built in idea that they should take advantage of someone who is unable to advocate for themselves. Import Garage was recommended to me by another repair shop, because I was looking for a garage that could repair engines. Ed Jacinto, the owner of Import Garage, is probably one of the more friendly and accommodating shop owners I've met, and to be honest, I felt safer leaving my Expedition with a fellow Filipino. He gave me a free repair estimate; a few of the engine shops I visited prior to going to Import Garage said repairing my engine manifold would cost at least $800. At first, Ed thought so too, but he impressed me when he said he'd call around to other engine shops and parts stores to see if he could get me a lower price. The day after, he called me and said he could get the engine manifold fixed for about $400! Needless to say, I left my Expedition in good hands, and when I drove it out of the shop a few days later, it was running smooth and the ride was no worse for the wear (and neither was my wallet)... Ed has also done repairs for other members of my extended family, ranging from light bulbs to bushings to engine repair. Import Garage is a 5 star business. I was referred to Import Garage because they do work on Nissan, and I'm glad I came here to get my car repaired. When I walked in, I was greeted by Jason (manages the front). I told him of my situation and although he could not get my car seen that day, I was able to set an appointment. Fast forward to the day before my appointment and I had to call to reschedule. Jason was able to get me rescheduled for a further date without any hassle. On the day of my appointment, I was greeted by Jason again and he asked if I was able to leave my car overnight or if I needed it back same day. I liked having the option beforehand so I can go on about my day. By that afternoon, I received a call from Jeremy (head mechanic) and he gave me his diagnosis which correlated with the Nissan dealership. Import garage pricing was cheaper so I went with Import Garage. I picked up my car the following day. Jason and Jeremy were present. Jeremy went over what was done to my car; Jason went over the paperwork and payment. I highly recommend Import Garage. They are honest and hardworking. So my project was to convert the rear drum brakes on my 2003 Toyota Celica GT to rear disc brakes from a Toyota Celica GT-S. I called about 15 shops asking if they would do the job for me, but 14 of the 15 turned me down due to "liability" reasons. Import Garage was the only shop that was willing to do the conversion for me, and for that they get 3 stars right off the bat! I took my car in along with the parts needed for the conversion, and Dustin (one of the mechanics) got the job done on the same day, and always kept me updated on the progress of the car. Overall, it was a pretty simple job and the car looks and stops much better. Great shop, good service, and quality installation. 5/5 read more

I used this business based on the reviews and hoping to save money by not going to the dealer. They spent longer than I liked doing a diagnosis for a check engine light, however advised to me that there were other cars ahead. My car stayed over night and the next day I was advised my car needed several repairs and that some had to be outsourced to the dealer. Import Garage recommended that I take my car to the dealer and that it would overall save time and possibly money. They also advised to check into warranty coverage. Then they told me they were not charging me for anything. Even though they spent several hours of their time, there was no charge for the diagnostics. I was expecting a minimum of $110 fee. I was blown away by their honesty, professionalism, and generosity. Even though they did not necessarily get my paid business this time, I will be back for sure. I recommend the business! read more

Having had so many bad or questionable experiences with shops over the years I have been looking to find one reliable place I can count on. My A/C stopped working and it had been diagnosed by a few other places as a bad compressor. The quotes I heard were astromical and if I was going to pay for the job I wanted the best service possible. When I called and talked to Dustin I could already tell the high level of integrity I was dealing with and he continued to shoot me straight through the entire process. Clutch on my 350z was sticking. After doing research many 350z owners stated before you change out any parts you should try to change out the old fluid as either the fluid or air in the system can cause the clutch to stick. After taking it to Import Garage and explaining them my thoughts they said it may not fix the issue. I told them that I understand that it may not fix it but I rather spend it on that before I spend it on actual parts I may not need. They agreed and charged me $100. After driving it home it got ten times worse. I took it to the dealership and Nissan stated that after Import Garage changed out the clutch fluid there was still air in the system. After doing further research, if you drain the clutch too much you would have to re pressurize the system. Nissan fixed the problem by bleeding out all the air correctly from the system. The clutch no longer sticks. They charged me $88 for diagnostic and labor. I received a phone call from Import Garage later and stated that it was my fault, as that's all I wanted, a fluid exchange. I don't want to tell a mechanic what to do because I'm not one, but it is common sense to bleed air out of any lines. Like changing out the brake fluid, it doesn't matter if you replace it with new fluids, if you don't bleed the system, it won't work as effectively. It's like me saying I want to change out the brake fluid and them saying oh since you didn't ask us to, we won't bleed out the lines and just pour new fluid into the system. They also said I can bring my 350z back to fix it. Too late. What's the point as It's already fixed and they should have done it correctly the first time! Again, no common sense. They did not even offer a partial refund for labor. Definitely not taking it there anymore. I rather spend the extra $50 or so taking it to Nissan or find a local reputable shop that won't blame the customer for the mechanic's mistake! I gave them 2 stars vice 1 star because they have assisted me in the past and had no issues, but this time they dropped the ball and won't even own up to it. That is not a good characteristic to have especially when the locals are the ones who keep your business running. read more

I was very unhappy with the work that was done on my car!! I found all kinds of finger prints on my body and in the interior there was grease stains on my driver seat. I took my girlfriends car to import garage on a recommendation, as the car made a lot of noise. My directions were to check for bad or missing bushings, lose motor mounts, brackets, or plastic protection shields. The mechanic said the diagnostics would cost $85.00, and that he would check it out, and let me know what he found. The next day, my girlfriend calls me in a panic, and says that Dustin told her that the spider gears in the transmission were shot, and that the car needed a new transmission. The cost for replacement... $2000.00. First point, they didn't do anything I asked them to. They didn't look for any lose bushings, or broken motor mounts. They went straight for a diagnosis that they figured they could get away with, assuming that both my girlfriend and I were not mechanically inclined, and they could scare us into the repair. Newsflash !! I am somewhat of a mechanic myself, and I knew the cars spider gears were not shot, and the transmission was in perfect working order. And to confirm, I took the car to the dealer the next day, and to another local garage for verification. They both confirmed that the spider gears in the car were not bad at all, and that typically spider gears very rarely go bad !! So, my conclusion is that they tried to take advantage of my girlfriend and I, thinking since we don't know anything about cars, they would make a quick $2000.00 off of us. Not a chance !! As it turned out, the problem with the car was with the motor mounts, both were bad. Both replaced by the local garage for $560.00 dollars, and the car sounds like new. When I told her to go back to import garage, and call them on it, and demand her money back for the diagnostics, they did just that, refunded her the money for the diagnostics. I think they knew they were busted. I don't appreciate garages that try to take advantage of people who are not mechanically inclined, and will not recommend them to anyone !! read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!!!!! I would have put no stars if that were an option. They had my car for 7 days and while it was in there dirty shop, a rat got into it (I'm assuming they left my windows down over night) and destroyed the carpet in the front driver seat. The owner then said (the day I picked it up) that the carpets were already destroyed when I brought it in. We spoke with him 3 times while the car was there and he never said a word about the damage. I find this very weird considering the damage is very noticeable the second you open my car door and there were animal foot prints on top of the dust on my front windshield. The car smelt so bad I did not even want to drive it. I definitely would recommend not going here. They obviously have no respect for their customers or the vehicles that are brought in there. There shop is dirty and has rats. If you bring your car there in good condition, it probably will not come out that way. The owner refused to help out in fixing the damage that was done in his shop. I have only had my car for 1 year and I have kept the interior in immaculate condition. I am furious with this place. read more

I was having an idle problem on my 2000 Nissan Frontier Truck, the truck would shake really bad, so I did my own tune-up consisting of changing the plugs, coil, rotor and I replaced the wires. Well it didn't fix the problem, So I checked yelp for an auto shop, since I've always had good luck on Yelp. I called Import Garage and spoke to a gentleman by the name of Conner, he said I could drop the truck off on Monday and the diagnostic charge would $80, however it could be lower depending on how long it would take to isolate the problem. I had no problem with this since all shops charge a price for running a diagnostic check. Well I received a call later in the day to tell me the code from the truck showing a problem with the #4 cylinder and that they believed it was a bad fuel injector. I agreed to have it replaced, even though it could have been something else. Why did I agree to this, because I believe they're an honest repair shop! They told me up front, if this did not fix the problem, they wouldn't charge me extra to run another diagnostic check. In fact they adjusted the final bill, and lowered the price, based on finding a part that cost less, and the labor charge was adjusted. I was really pleased with the service I received from Import Garage and would highly recommend them to others. read more
