I'm here on a trip to see my fiancé perform at HB social bar (Ekali) and we stopped by this place in the day after seeing such good reviews. My goodness after being here for 5 minutes I had happy tears in my eyes. The love, authenticity and hospitality here is unbeatable. This is a MUST stop if you're visiting Waikiki. As someone who comes from a same sex family, I wish my mom was here to enjoy this with me. Bless you all. Much love. Thank you for helping create memories on this trip. Also, the Mexican Candy Jelly Shot is an absolute MUST.

With the purest of intentions (ahem), Jamie W. and I have patronized at least a half-dozen gay bars in Honolulu, and hands down, this was our favorite. It has to be the smallest as well. Hidden away in a narrow walkway between Lau'ula Street and Kalakaua Avenue, it definitely doesn't provide the space offered by spots like Hula's Bar & Lei Stand and Chiko's Tavern. However, we felt genuine personal warmth from the staff and not the nasty kind your dirty mind presumed. I think they recognize the value of a personal connection when quarters are a bit tight. They offer karaoke at a $1 per song with an extensive set list. I was ready to cover "I'm Every Woman", but unfortunately I forgot to invite my backup singers. Ahem. Jabriel and Jacob were our bartenders during our two visits, and they were simply great, easy to chat with and made our $5 drinks with skill (photo: https://yelp.to/j9jljDJOMD). My buddy and I had the best time drinking and singing at this spot randomly! Cheers to our local Usher Dante, Richard the Canadian, and Kailey the Shania Twain guru! Merry Christmas ya filthy animals! Service was incredible and cheers to both Phillip and Jazz for taking care of us with drinks and fun!

When people say "hole in the wall" bar, this bar epitomizes that phrase. In Between should wear that as a badge of honor because they can offer more aloha, fun, drink specials and entertainment than bars many times its size. If you're lucky enough to find this "hole", you will leave with great memories and possibly a new friend or two. The staff is abundantly friendly and what you'd expect in a neighborhood bar. If you have the chance, sit with bartender Derrick on either of his Monday or Tuesday shifts. You will be delightfully entertained while receiving exceptional service. Don't forget to ask about bar specials because he'll gladly explain them all to your satisfaction. Yeah, it's a gay bar, but now I'm just over selling the place:-) read more

I like this funky little bar . And it does have really cheap drinks, or it used to . And its right downstairs from my skanky little adult video arcade. When I need a fix of porn, and a cheap drink this is my go to spot. just saying. and its usually packed with drunk people too . FYI read more

Very hard to find location, but VERY worth it! The BEST music!!! Finally a gay bar that plays Whitney, Mariah, Christina etc. The lighting inside is dark and almost "dive bar" in appearance. The cocktails are strong and fair priced. read more

Gotta love this place!!! Gary is a sweetheart with a sweet voice. Bryant is hunk of burning love with a junk of burning bootyliciousness! Robert is that guy that makes you feel like it's no place like home. His smile his food and his kick ass drinks will make you want to never leave. & Jose! Hard to find; always delivers. This hole in the wall has the best bartenders and best drinks in town. Great prices and you'd be surprised at how many great singers take on the karaoke microphone. Bryant is the best bartender in Honolulu, so come see him on Saturday and Monday nights. Sabrina rocks the machine. Crowded, yes: worth it; always. read more

Not the bar you want to come to for dancing, but they have well priced drinks, a fun atmosphere, and and the crowd both times I've been there, have been very friendly. Fun karaoke. If you're just wanting to have some fun with cheaper drinks and be able to make some new friends along the way, this is the place. read more

This place has great drinks. Drinks are priced very well. The atmosphere is great. You can always sing karaoke or just talk and make new friends. It's a fun place. The bartenders have great personalities and they are easy to talk to. I highly recommend this place. read more

To Racquel..who gave this establishment a one star. The In Between Bartender Ivan is NOT PREJUDICE. How dare you drop the prejudice card when you are corrected or educated regarding policies of the establishment. It sounds like you do this often and blame others for your ignorance. We here on the islands are not a prejudice group of people. In fact, we don't even know what prejudice is...everyone here is equal regardless of race, color or belief. This hidden bar is the best. I was introduced to this bar by a friend who works at a large club. Never looked back, consider it a must stop every visit to Waikiki. Its a neighborhood bar with karaoke upon request in the day and every night. It's always a fun time. Don't be put off by its location. Look betwen the buildings for there sign. Once you go thru thier small door and step down into the bar you will find a clean bar without the tourist atmosphere with friendly bar staff. Say high to the great bartenders Robert, there most days, Derek and Jacob and sing your favorite song or just have a drink with great people. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by the outcome of our first visit here. We purchased a Groupon for this venue and when we drove up, we were like uh oh!! We almost turned around to go elsewhere. So glad we didn't, the bartender made us great drinks, played great music and the karaoke was fantastic. Looking forward to visiting again real soon. Thanks Mr. DJ/bartender/karaoke lead. okay, wow. people say this place isn't safe or clean? They need to go back to the bar at the Cheesecake Factory in Orange County, then. Sure, it's a little dated, it's a hole in the wall bar, but it's *perfect*. I love this place - cheap, good drinks, nice selection of liquors, friendly bartenders... (Jacob and Bryant esp., but you won't go wrong) You go a couple times, you feel like a local. (And when my friend was over from the Bay Area lately, he said of all the [many, many] gay bars in Honolulu we went to, this was his favorite!) If I go by myself I prefer sitting at the bar and talking to the ppl I've inevitably met; by the end of the night I'll be trading shots with someone who just passed the bar exam, who got engaged, or who stumbled in for happy hour on their (straight) honeymoon not knowing it was a gay spot and just stayed. It gets crowded, especially late, but come in for a shot and a beer and a song! read more

I opened my first restaurant at age 21, and I have been involved in bars and restaurants ever since, as well as several other careers. I first knew In Between when it was called CC's, and when CC's closed a new owner re-opened it as In Between. It was struggling so I, purchased In Between 16 years ago and it has been nothing but fun ever since.

They just don't have the space. So we can probably only spend two hours here maximum especially if you're wearing heels although maybe some people can wear heels all day without sitting. The problem and the disappointment is that the drinks are way too expensive. $16 for mediocre drinks that are mostly ice cubes in small plastic cups. And then, if they do have specials, they run out of them. Before the event even starts. That's my biggest problem with this place. This is the only queer space on the island that has weak small drinks. For a high price. That is not a typical culture of a queer space. All the other queer spaces have much larger stronger better drinks, and the prices are lower. It's really a bummer because I will only order one drink here and then if I want to have more drinks go somewhere else. But it's OK shouldn't have to drink to have fun anyway as I suppose. Even the Republic has bigger better drinks, and they're not even a dedicated queer space.

Fortunately for us, the rest of the meals and drinks on our trip were so fantastic that this was just a fart in the wind.

Jacob is the worst bartender I've ever experienced. Ima local and he threw money at me so hard it went over the bar and fell on floor. Then when confronted he started yelling as loud as possible at me and wife. He motioned as if he wanted to " fight" us. He was belligerent, clearly intoxicated and has been seen multiple times drinking on the clock. He is clearly disabled or grossly incompetent to his subservient role as SERVER/ bartender and thinks he's at a party. Note to business owner, if you want to save your business, get rid of the excess fat. read more

This bar is small and uncomfortable when crowded but otherwise it's a fun dive bar. More fun when it's mostly straight people. You'll actually hear other songs being sung, than the same 20 the regulars sing every day since they don't know any other songs from the past 60 years. The bartenders are cool and serve good drinks and there is a fun atmosphere most of the time. Last time I was there, I was harassed by some gross guy Todd Rentz, a republican therapist with major issues. Avoid him at all cost and you will have a good time. read more

Not friendly. Clicky locals and horny men cursing for sex. The gay community here and really anywhere is the worst version you could find wrapped in fake aloha. Don't drink anything that uses water from the tap. They don't replace water filters or maintain anything here or at any restaurant/bar, really. Still to bottled beverages. read more
