This is one of our usual stops on drives to/from Tahoe! It's a great midpoint stop from the Bay Area to Tahoe. In n Out is the only fast food restaurant I go to! Their burgers are the freshest and at this price point, nothing comes close! I would venture to say that some restaurants can't beat their burgers! Their burgers use fresh ground beef, all the veggies are super fresh. I usually get the hamburger (no cheese because this girl has to watch her figure), with regular onions and peppers. I like their regular fries! My family likes fries animal style. The line can be looong but they do the best they can, always with a smile! We had an awesome experience at the Auburn location today. I believe all the employees are trained to give good customer service and they do; but today we had an exceptional employee who just went totally above and beyond. Anthony was skirting around the floor staying busy, anytime he was near the front door he would hold it for somebody either coming or going, I heard him ask one of the patrons if he could grab their order and also asked someone if he could refill their drink. Another patron sitting close to us pointed out 'you just can't get customer service like that nowadays'. This guy was just above and beyond normal customer service. Normally not a lot of variation in food quality from one In & Out to the next location, but the Grass Valley highway spot is consistanly good. Close to hwy 80 this place is always busy. Ordered the frys "Well Fry"from the cheerful young lady running the order counter. One of the many Not on the menu order options. My go to is the animal style hamburger add a whole grilled onion, chopped chilies, and extra on the lettuce , tomatoes, and pickles. On the side, I always get well done fries. In my opinion, I think that the drive-through is faster rather than ordering in and waiting for your meal. One thing I love is at the prices for the quality and quantity you're getting is on par. You can get a burger for around five dollars. I don't think I've ever had one time where the quality was not good or it wasn't fresh. I always go to this location on my way back to Sacramento from taco since it's on the way and directly right off the highway. Glad I finally made it back so I can write an update to my previous review. Quality/Quantity - Back to our go-to travel food. I like this brand when traveling because they give us car trays and mats. Service - The cashier was so friendly and hard working. If she was not a leader, I can see her being a future leader. Coaching, leading, and telling her co-workers what to do. As for speed of service, slightly quicker than a "normal" In N Out. But we know and do not mind that we have to wait as food is made to order. Fresh, fresh, fresh. I stopped by this In N Out last night, having had good experiences with this location in the past. I asked them for extra grilled onions on my animal fries, and they made me some of the most Instagrammable animal fries I've ever seen in my life. They made them extra everything, which was what I really wanted. The burger was perfect, and was exactly what I asked for: double double animal style, no lettuce extra tomato, both kinds of onion. The drive through line was not too bad. It was very busy, but the line moved relatively fast. The cashier, order taker, and expo were all friendly, and all three of them clarified my order to make sure they had it correct. It's always a great experience at this In N Out, and I'll continue to stop by when I'm hungry in the neighborhood. read more

We have been to dozens of In-N-Out locations over the years. We have been to this one in particular many times - a regular stop during roadtrips. On our most recent visit, I had the best Grilled Cheese Animal Style, my usual order from their (not so) secret menu, out of any I have ever had before! Everything about it was surprisingly super fresh and delicious! We also had a couple orders of fries, one animal style. My daughter also had a refreshing root beer float. I have eaten at In-N-Out less than 10 times in my life, with this Auburn location winning the prize for the most visits ... definitely 3, and possibly 4. You can't help but like its easy on-off from I-80, the way it sits up on its own hill, and the parking situation. I like In-N-Out Burger. I'm just not in love with it the way some people are. This last visit explained to me why. The cheeseburger was very good and I like In-N-Out's sauce. As I went along putting the order together with medium fries and a medium drink, it then dawned on me that it's one of the 3 easy order combinations. The young lady taking the order was way too nice and it was not in her demeanor to correct me or suggest 'the next time you can ...' That said, all of the employees here are very polite, but then Auburn and West Placer County seem to have kids with better manners than in many corners of nearby Sacramento County. The entire meal combination was actually good. I tried the low-sugar pink lemonade for the first time over a typical cola drink. It was tasty and refreshing for that warm day. However, I had a little bit of an issue with the fries. The fries were indeed good, but many of them were too short to pick up to dip into the little paper cups I pumped ketchup into. This was a little frustrating. The store interior is clean and, not only that, it's more enjoyable to eat inside, given the bright atmosphere and windows, instead of chowing down your tasty treats in your vehicle or taking the food to go. Eating outside at the circular tables is also a good option here. I will say I was expecting the restroom to be a little cleaner. You know that there will be a wait. One only needs to look at the line of cars outside and, with this load and attendant demand, it typically slows down the process for those in the dining room to get their orders. The only thing that could make this more palatable is seeing all the different types of vehicles coming and going, as well as trying to figure out who is a local and who hails from the Bay Area or is on a long-distance road trip. I'm good with In-N-Out about once or twice a year. The only one that doesn't need to twist my arm much is the Los Angeles Westchester LAX location close to the airport's north runways. There, I can eat and plane spot at the same time. Here, you can enjoy the natural surroundings of this little Gold Rush town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. So, without going down the trite road of whether you took a long bus or a short bus to school, they can work on more longer fries and fewer shorter ones. read more

This was my 1st terrible In & out experience. Arrived and waited about 2 minutes to be helped although it wasn't busy possibly due to rain. I was rudely greeted by Macy after having to wait for the drive thru cashier to yell and flag her down. I then waited 15 minutes while multiple employees stood around socializing. Fries and burger were over seasoned which was super surprising. Definitely not going back to this In and Out. If you are black, I would advise another option if possible. Hoping I don't get sick couldn't even finish the food it was so salty. I definitely don't trust them to make me another order and I'm not walking through the rain again either. QUALITY! I'm happy to say this was another great experience at In-N-Out in the books. What a great Christmas Eve dinner. Heading home from Tahoe, my family was in need of some food. Since Chick-Fil-A was closed, In-N-Out was the next best option. We pulled up to the drive thru and the line flew by. We only had to wait 10 minutes, tops. Traveling on Christmas Eve clearly has its perks. One of the employees were kind enough to switch out one of our drinks for cherry coke, which we realized had just been added to the menu. Customer service at In-N-Out is unmatched. I got a Double Double (animal style, ofc), fries, and a vanilla shake. The burger was great: tender meat, snappy pickles, refreshing tomatoes, crunchy lettuce, and creamy cheese in each bite. Very filling. The fries were firm (well, as firm as In-N-Out fries can be) and saltier than usually, which is a good thing, seeing as In-N-Out fries don't have much flavor to begin with. The vanilla shake was thick and sweet, which contrasted perfectly with the saltiness of the burger and fries. This In-N-Out has it down! This location has one of the longest drive thru wait times I have ever been to... but when the fam bam wants In-N-Out Burger, it makes for an easy night in the kitchen. Back to visiting Auburn, and we all agreed I could take the night off from cooking. My daughter came with me to the drive through to keep me company. This location has a nice big long drive through that was full all the way to the back of the parking lot. From experience... this could be up to a half an hour wait from here. So while playing music, we eventually got to the order box, placed an order for a family of 5 and almost everybody wanted something different or modified. We paid at the window and the nicest person I have ever talked with asked me how I was doing as we waited for our family meal to be packed. I didn't bother checking our meals because IN-N-OUT always nails it. All the burgers & fries were piping hot with tasty cold beverages. My daughter couldn't wait though, and below in the pic is how she normally eats her IN-N-OUT in the car. 5 stars for service food, and all that hard work we can see you guys doing through the windows! I really enjoy In N Out burgers, and often stop at various locations wherever I might happen to be. So I decided to stop in at this particular location while passing through Auburn. This place is spacious, neat and clean and pretty much what you would expect at In N Out. Unfortunately, there was one thing going on inside that made my visit very irritating. There was a continuous loud clanging coming from the kitchen the entire time I was inside the restaurant. I had a very difficult time placing my order over all this noise and it seemed like it was unrelenting.
