Everyone knows In-N-Out is the best fast food burger in the country, perhaps the world. And if you didn't know that, it is probably because you have never tried it before. You should do that, stat. This is the only In-N-Out in Santa Barbara, therefore I have eaten here quite a bit, but it can also get very crowded. I will not dock any stars for this, however, as popularity should not be a deterrent. I have waited in line for an hour to get into a restaurant after all! So, this means lunch time is crowded. Was pretty quiet on my visit (luckily!), but the service was quick and friendly. My burger and fries were very fresh, I decided to try a strawberry milkshake, and it really was not to my taste at all so I left it behind. In-n-Out has been in my life since as long as I can remember, and growing up in Southern California, there are about 3 locations within 10 minutes from my mother's house so I was a bit disappointed when I love to Santa Barbara to come to find out that there is only one location and the next one is in the middle of Ventura. Regardless, this place is always buzzing, lots of high school kids but it is still a pit stop anytime I am in Goleta. It is always very very busy but the staff is quick and efficient. Since I don't think anyone cares what I think of the food at In-N-Out Burgers (let's be real, everyone in California seems to love this place) I'll describe this location for first-timers. This In-N-Out is very clean and seems to be well-run, if a bit slow. Around lunch time you should expect a line out to the door, but it's actually two lines with two cashiers so that cuts down on your wait a bit. The drive-through doesn't seem to be any better, and sometimes I drive by at 10pm at night and the drive-through is still 15 cars deep. Check out the secret menu on their website before you go because the menu there is just the bare bones. I also noticed lots of people getting loaded fries with what seemed like meat and sauce on top, but I'm not sure what that's about or how to order it. Oh the mysteries of life... They have indoor seating as well as a good number of outdoor tables facing the parking lot. Speaking of the parking lot... it's big, but even with the number of spots they have I still see people creating their own spots. Price-wise I think it's really reasonable, and two regular burgers with fries and drinks ran me less than $12 the other day. That's really good. So what *do* I think of the food? The burgers just don't blow my mind, and even though I VERY much appreciate that they are hand-slicing those potatoes right in front of me the fries seem a bit bland. Solution? Best "fast food"! While you can't go wrong with anything here, seriously, experience it all, I have a "secret menu" meal go to: protein style burger and fries well done! Protein style drops the carbs and serves up your burger in an iceberg lettuce wrap. This is my way of convincing myself it's a guilt free meal. Whether your ordering through the drive thru or inside, you're going to have to wait. So have patience. But trust me. Once you get your food the wait was worth it. You get your typical in n out meal. I hate to leave this negative review because I usually have a good experience at this restaurant. However, yesterday was not the case. I placed my order at 4:35 and received my food at 4:59. It took 24 minutes to get a double cheeseburger, a side of fries, and a strawberry shake. In N Out is not known for keeping food under the heat lamp, thus the quality, but yesterday's service was ridiculous. This was the first time I have ever been to an In n Out in my entire life. Sad and pathetic, I know. I'm just a sad lil weird dude from Nebraska and feel neglected. I almost screamed "bring us your sick and weak and we will make them sicker and weaker due to greasy burger lust." After a long day on the road, my sister and I were in "F**k it" mode. The beauty of this place is that it caters to this mode. It is an experience, sure. It's just what you do. The food may not be top notch and the restaurant has that "post little league baseball victory/defeat meal" feel, but the food is good enough and the feel is pure nostalgia. It's just one of those Merica' things. I am ashamed to say I didn't do my research and missed the not so secret menu stuff. Did that mean I didn't enjoy my foods? Nope! The burger was what I wanted and needed and the fries were fries. I had no expectations. I knew I had to keep em in check. So...expectations were met and foods were pounded down. I was in elementary school when this In-N-Out location opened. After much hype and anticipation, Santa Barbara residents flocked from all over and for weeks the line to order stretched out seemingly endlessly. When you're in 5th-grade, waiting 45 minutes for a burger seems like an eternity. Still worth it. Many years later, the wait has of course gone down drastically but the tasty experience has persevered. My love for In-N-Out has never waned, and when I return home it is always a must-stop. Nothing too fancy - a double-double animal style with well-done fries will melt my heart. I always make sure to ask for a few of their paper hats and free In-N-Out stickers to give to friends back in DC. The restaurant is easy to access right off the 101 freeway. The only true issue with this location has been the men's bathroom urinal. Despite the creativity of angles one uses, there is a considerable splash factor that always made me question whether the urinal manufacturer actually tested their product before release. Perhaps they've finally replaced it. At the end of the day, the classic In-N-Out palm trees seem to sway to the wind most appropriately in the beautiful city of Santa Barbara. I'd typically give In-N-Out a 4 star, however, this time they had undercooked and some ice-cold french fries. The hamburgers were really good and the service was great. Unfortunately this is the only In-N-Out in our area and it's on the far side of town. Easy to get into and very busy all the time. Although there are a lot of customers, they get through the orders quickly. Again, though the fries weren't cooked. They only have a few things on the menu and they do it well. Hamburgers are juicy with lots of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions. Very filling just with the burger. We shared fries and definitely glad we did. There is fast food and then there is In -N-Out. Even my vegan mother breaks down to order a cheese burger and fries when she comes through Santa Barbara from Arizona. The hidden menu has some great items, but you can't go wrong with the posted items either. I like a change of pace, my last order was the double with lemon up and fries. Speaking of fries, no need to add ketchup, they are good enough no need to supplement the taste. The chain treats their workers well and it shows. It's rare to have incorrect items on your tray and I'm always greeted with a smile. The lines at lunch time are nearly out the door. Although it moves quickly I still avoid lunch and dinner rush. I tried the In-N-Out in Frisco, TX. It sucked. Tung told me to try the one in California. I did. In-N-Out till sucks in California. I don't see the what all the hype is about. Most burger places in Texas beats In-N-Out without even trying. It's impossible to cook a good burger with patties that thin. A good burger has to thick so you can cook it medium if so preferred. And the taste of the meat was dreadful. Texas beef taste so much better. In fact, I like Wendy's better than In-N-Out. Nothing beats a 1/2 lb Texas bacon cheese burger. read more

The meat tastes like real beef, their veggies are fresh, and their special sauce makes them soooooo good... When I moved to California, everyone told me that the best burgers ever were at In n Out. Unfortunately, Californians tend to overexaggerate everything like they over charge for small homes. Don't get me wrong. In n Out has good burgers, fries, & shakes but the burgers are not the best in the world. The ingredients do taste fresh and figuring out everything on that secret menu is intriguing. Their milkshakes are excellent. Thick with real ice cream milkshakes like I'm used to from childhood. They have a big parking lot but beware of people rushing you to get in front. There is always a line. If there isn't one when you arrive consider yourself lucky. You can go inside which will be packed with college students or high school students but they're not a rowdy crowd. Best fast food in all of Santa Barbara. For a place that doesn't like chains, I'm glad they allow In-n-Out to be here. As a college student, I miss the Del Taco, the BJ's brewhouse, the Targets, and a whole bunch of other chains in southern California so I'm really glad I have In-n-Out up here to allow me to plausibly deny being in Central California.
