Convenient times. I'm doing a small group personal training with Dan! Also love the cupping offering here, bruh . It's different than others I've tried. Lots of class options, including yoga! I highly recommend this woman-owned gym! Super queer friendly too!

I was intimidated at first. I have some, but not a lot of experience with yoga and the idea of doing it in a heated environment made me nervous. They have 60- and 90-minute classes. I started with the 60 min Yoga Basics class which is not a beginner class necessarily, its challenging for sure, but sticks to the more rudimentary poses and movements. It's a great class for all levels and the heated room was actually very nice. I was concerned I would feel like I was suffocating but that was not at all the case. It felt great and I was totally sweaty by the end of class. It's a damn good workout and everyone is very supportive and friendly. Since I've incorporated yoga 2 days a week into my regular routine and dropped the hard work outs down to only 2 days a week I'm feeling MUCH better. Less injury, more bendy, and continued to increase my strength. Bean and the gym staff are all great at what they do. Heather and rest of the yoga instructors are wonderful as well. I'm loving UFF and the range of options they offer! The only thing that I would warn anyone about is they are not super great at providing instruction in the boot camp and TRX classes. Most of the members are fairly experienced athletes and there's a lot of assumption that everyone knows what they're doing and what weight they should be using. In a class of 20+ people they don't have a lot of time to coach an individual person. I am not shy and will almost always ask for help if I'm not sure, but not everyone feels comfortable doing that. I can definitely say that when I have asked for help, I get wonderful feedback and assistance. If you're new at this type of fitness you can schedule a one-on-one with a trainer to help you sort out a lot of things ahead of time, so you don't hurt yourself during a class. 10/10 highly recommend!

I love how they celebrate all of our wins and encourage us when we need it most. They have this amazing ability to meet us where we are in our fitness journeys while still pushing us to grow stronger and more confident. What really sets them apart is how real and relatable they are. They're not about perfection--they're about progress. This creates a dynamic where we feel comfortable being open and honest, which helps them guide us toward our goals even better. Facility - Honestly, it's one of the cleanest gyms I've ever been to. You know that typical gym smell? It doesn't exist here. I'm pretty sure it's because the mats are regularly professionally cleaned. Plus, all members are asked to use "indoor-only" gym shoes or wipe their shoes with Chlorox wipes before stepping on the mat. Even the bathrooms (I can vouch for the women's) are always tidy and well-stocked. I'd bet the men's is just as clean! Environment - The vibe is everything. It's positive, fun, and feels like a family. The coaches know you by name, and the members are all so encouraging--especially on those tough metcon days (you know the ones!). Celebrating milestones, like workout counts and birthdays, is just part of the culture here, and it makes showing up feel special. Workouts - The 30-minute format is genius--perfect for busy people who still want a solid, effective workout. Every session is thoughtfully planned to build strength, stamina, and confidence. And they don't stop there! They also run fun challenges throughout the year for weight loss, strength goals, or just shaking things up and having a good time doing it.

In June of 2012, I fractured the head of my left humerus playing soccer and was subsequently in a sling for six week. After my doctor told me I could finally stop wearing the sling, I spent eight weeks doing physical therapy through Kaiser, which helped improve the flexibility of my shoulder a little bit, but my range of motion was still very limited and my shoulder was weak to the point where I couldn't even do a full push-up. So, I decided to take my friend's advice and sign up for Basic Training in the hope that I would see some improvement in my shoulder. I still remember my first Basic Training class and the feeling after I finished, happy that I survived and a little dizzy from pushing myself to hard. Basic Training hasn't gotten any easier since that first class, but now I know what to expect from each class I attend and I love it. I've seen a lot of improvement in the strength and flexibility of my left shoulder and I now, almost, have my full range of motion back, plus I can do full push-ups again. In addition to the improvement in my shoulder, my core strength has increased quite a bit, which has been greatly beneficial to my speed and endurance when I run a 5K, 10K, or half-marathon. Basic Training has also helped alleviate the lower back pain I was having after running races, which I attribute to having more core strength. DI Carson and the other instructors are fantastic; they motivate you to do your best, but at your own pace, so you don't hurt yourself. They also place a lot of emphasis on doing stretches and workouts slowly and correctly, versus fast and in a way where you might injure yourself. All of the recruits I've worked out with at Mather have been very encouraging, friendly, and motivating. I never hesitate to ask someone how to do something correctly, because even after 9 months there are still workouts I've never done before. Basic Training provides a variety of different workouts, which I appreciate, because I don't like the monotony of doing the same workout over and over again. So, whether you are coming off an injury, want to improve your core strength, or really do want to get in the best shape of your life, I highly recommend that you give Basic Training a try.

It's gonna be hard to put into words how I feel about this place, but I'll try. But I also feel…read morelike I need to add a little bit of background info about why I feel the way I do so here goes nothing. At the peak of my fitness over a decade ago, I was part of a now-defunct fitness group called SacTown FitClub that had a community and vibes like no other. Our workouts were mostly plyometrics based metabolic conditioning at different parks before they eventually got a warehouse space with a bit of equipment. Ever since they closed, I had a huge void in my life and I've been bouncing around different gyms and even trying different types of martial arts. I was trying to chase that high because for me it wasn't just about the gym and having equipment, I was looking for a community and workouts like FitClub had. Fast forward to October 2024. At this point I've been powerlifting with a small group of buddies for a couple years, but I'd grown bored with it and I needed a spark. I had been considering diving back into CrossFit for around a year now(I had a very very brief stint at Kaiwai around 2017 or 2018) but anxiety trying new things with new people kept me from taking the leap and coming back after all this time. I even messaged the owner of another box and scheduled a day to come in but I got cold feet and backed out. Then after talking to one of my powerlifting buddies who wanted to try out CrossFit, we decided to check out CrossFit Kaiwai. It helped that I remembered the owner Jaws being very friendly and accommodating back in 2017-18, and he was exactly the same when I messaged him in October to let him know we wanted to try a class before potentially signing up. We attended a 5:30pm Wednesday night class that Jaws instructed and the struggle was real, but never were we expected to do more than what our fitness level and abilities allowed. Jaws was very encouraging and insightful, giving us substitutions or modifications for any movements we were unable to do. If I'm being honest, it was freakin tough but I always enjoyed the challenge that metabolic conditioning brought, especially in a group setting. I was sold on that 1 class and signed up right away and started with just 1 class a week because I already had a powerlifting split of 4 days a week. Fast forward to present day. I've cut the powerlifting to 1-2 days a week if that, because I'm at Kaiwai 5 days a week. I didn't just fill the void I had, my cup is now overflowing. I didn't just find a community, I gained a family and I'm doing workouts I love to do(ngl, I'm also doing ones I hate lol). Every single day is a new challenge, and every workout complete is rewarding. I love that here you never suffer alone, you get to suffer with a bunch of friends lol. There's never a shortage of coaches or buddies hyping you up during the workout when it feels like your mind is working against you, having you ready to give up on yourself. I even switched from 5:30pm workouts to 5am workouts. Who tf in their right mind does a 5am workout, especially before work?! If you told me a year ago that I'd be doing 5am workouts before work, I would tell you you're out of your goddamn mind. But this is what Kaiwai and all the beautiful people that encompass this place do. It took some time but I'm starting to get the results I've wanted for myself for so many years now. I'm feeling better and better about myself and I'm regaining my confidence. This is supposed to be my home away from home but in some ways, it feels like my true home. On my hardest days, I know I can come here and leave feeling lighter. When I'm sick and miss some days, I'll get texts asking where or how I am and I feel missed. I'm absolutely blessed I get to be a part of this place and my heart is always full from the friendships I have gained. I hope more people come along and get to experience all that I have felt, because I love this place and all the people in it more than I can put into words.

I wanted to build muscle and have a toned and strong body. Immediately, when I started, Jason, the owner and his wife, Darla and their trainer, Amy were extremely supportive and accommodating to the fact that I was out of shape and needed modifications for almost every exercise. I started coming multiple days a week and after a couple of months, I was able to start coming six days a week. The workouts are 30 minutes each, which is great because it doesn't take up too much time in my day and they are great workouts that have made me feel and look stronger and healthier as well as feeling good about my body. I have lost 90 pounds since I started at their gym and I have gained a ton of muscle and look fantastic now all thanks to Hoops Boot Camp and Fitness! I went from a plus size 5X to a size small. They're wonderful owners and are great trainers. They are encouraging, supportive, positive motivating, and accommodating. I have never felt like they pushed me beyond what I was comfortable with yet their workouts are still challenging so that you can get results. They are a family owned and run business. The class sizes are small, no more than 14 people per class and you rotate stations and every day is a different workout and challenge that focuses on lower body strength, upper body strength and core strength along with agility training and cardio. The people that attend the gym are all very supportive and nice. It is a judgmental free zone. I have felt comfortable in this gym since day one and I have never felt that sort of comfort in any other gym that I have been at. I highly encourage you to give them a try. I was given a four week free trial and after that another four weeks at a discounted rate of only $100. Their pricing is really great for a small gym. I only pay $130 a month for unlimited classes. They offer morning, afternoon, and evening workouts. Most of the classes only have around 6 to 8 people so you really get individualized and personalized attention which is really nice. They show you how to properly lift weights and will help you if you are not lifting weights properly so that you don't injure yourself. The gym is small, but it has everything that you need for a full body workout . They have a ropes station. They have weights of all different strengths. They have a TRX station, a med ball station, a kettle ball station, and step up boxes of various size, yoga balls and rollers, rowing machines, and much more equipment to be able to make each work out different but effective. I highly recommend this gym if you are looking for a supportive, nonjudgmental and accommodating gym, with a small group experience, personalized support, and want to gain strength and a healthy body.

Now I'm hooked on SBC (Superwomen Boot Camp)! Here are some things that set Superwomen Boot Camps apart and why you should also give SBC a try today! Your first class is always FREE, so there's no reason *not* to try. * FRIENDLY: Val (the owner & main trainer) sets a friendly vibe throughout SBC. At first, I was a little weary of being an "outsider" of the close-nit SBC community. But all the women were very friendly & I soon felt like a part of the family. * INDOOR: Other bootcamps in the area are at local paks, which is subject to weather. You can reliably show up to SBC even when it's raining. However, this doesn't keep Val from doing cardio drills with occasional jogging (or walking for non-runners). * ACCOUNTABILITY: During your first month (and even afterwards), Val does weekly weigh-ins at the end of each week. This allows you to see your progress! * PROFESSIONAL: Before having my baby, I worked 10+ years in the fitness industry (teaching aerobics/Pilates/spinning/etc). As a fitness professional, I can vouch that Val is the real-deal. He knows how to kick your butt, but also provide safe alternatives for various fitness levels & injuries. * NOT JUST EXERCISE, ALSO NUTRITION. Val explains that a bad diet can sabotage your workouts...so he provides some nutritional guidance to get the best results. * RESULTS! Val helps you get results! This is obvious by the before/after pictures that line his Wall of Fame. * FITNESS FOR WHOLE FAMILY! They have co-ed (Supermen) and kid (Super-Kidz) versions too....not just, Superwomen for the women. * HI-TECH: Val is always trying to keep his members up-to-date. He sends weekly emails with words of inspiration, which reminds you that you CAN change your life for the better. And he's there to help! If you send him an email, he usually replies within an hour (very quickly). Give it a try today, you won't be disappointed! (Tell Val that you read it on Yelp)
