This location is so disgusting and dirty. The only reason I continue to go is for my childs swim lessons because the swim teacher is awesome. I was rinsing my child off in the showers after swim and brushed against the curtain. A roach jumped on my neck... so we don't rinse off in showers there anymore. Also the childcare is terrible. The first day we went I was told they separate the children from three below in one area, and four and up in a different area. My child is more mature so I asked if she could possibly to the four and up side. I was told no which I totally respect. But after initial time they primarily kept all the children together in the big kid area? In addition to that my child who is very social, has been in many childcare settings, and loves people- complained that the staff were mean to her (I clarified it wasn't another child). Sure this is subjective, she's a kid, but never has she said that about anyone before. After that I made an effort to peek in periodically to see what's going on, & the next time we went in this gym the windows into the childcare area were covered in 'art' to keep parents from being able to see inside. Totally rubs me the wrong way. Will not be having my daughter go again. I've been to other cal fit locations and childcare in others has been great. I'd avoid this one at all costs. read more

We used to go to this gym regularly. Due to covid I called to cancel my membership. I was still changed. I called again and spoke to an employee who said they cancelled my account. I was not charged for August so I thought everything was ok. Well now I see that I have been billed for September! On top of this their cancellation website is inactive and instead the give you a number to call. When I called the number and selected membership cancellation there is a recording that says "not accepting messages" and hangs up on me. I will be disputing these charges with my bank. read more

Membership fees are high compared to other health clubs, would be my main gripe. Great atmosphere, have met many friendly people there. Angel is an awesome guy. He works hit tail off and is very friendly. Always is interacting with clients while still working harder than anyone by far. You know when Angel is working, the place is always super clean and organized. Sabrina has always been very helpful and extremely friendly. Javier and the fitness instructors are always friendly and helpful. I do not like to be negative, but this is an honest review. Maria that works the counter has always been cold and not helpful. Have asked her a couple questions and she does not seem to care. She never greets anyone, unlike the other front counter staff, that always say hello. Cal Fit in general is a little older than most other gyms. The staff is super friendly especially the front desk, the girl was really cute. The gym is hardly busy and very clean. Liked the punching bag to get out my aggression from work...lol Nothing much else to say, besides its really cool to keep up to date with sports center while working on the bench press and squat rack. Especially since the had on the ultimate fighter and am a huge mma fan!! Would give it 5 stars, though the facility is nothing compared to the one in Natomas, definitely will head out to this Cal Fit for that punching bag, just need to bring the gloves. read more

Love this gym! It is clean and the staff is always courteous. They have a bunch of equipment and offer great classes as well. They have a wonderful daycare with tons of toys and books for the kiddos. Just yesterday I took my toddler to the Fall Festival. It was awesome! There was face painting, pumpkin painting, a bounce house, food, Cotten candy and a trunk or treat. A lot of fun for the whole family. Courtney and Krista were in charge of it and they did such a wonderful job! And they are so good with the little guys. Love that gym! This is my experience with Sabrina the " sales manager" at a calfit on Marconi and Fair Oaks. The facility is very nice, clean and the front desk people are very friendly. But.. My experience with Sabrina was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. she was lying and deceiving. Do NOT TRUST HER. I met her at SacState when she was advertising and she gave me what she called " the best offer" sign up for one dollar and a certain $ amount a month for 6 people. So,I sign the contract. And then the first bill hit and it was about double the amount she promised! I talk to her and she says oh we forgot to submit your SacState id and once we do, your monthly payment will go down to the promised amount. So she copies my ID and the second month I get charged double, Again I talk to her and she says corporate was supposed to fix the mistake but they have not and for that month I am in her office twice a week and every time, she blames it on corporate and says it'll be solved "next week" Then the 3rd month comes around and I'm charged Double again!! So I go to her office frustrated and she keeps blaming it on the corporate office and how lazy they are and do not get back to her and she says "report the charges as a fraud with your bank" at this point I am frustrated and told her that I am going to send the record of every conversation we had and the she was like no please I can lose my job if you do that, which was weird because why would someone lose their job if they were doing it right! So I called corporate and talked to a lady named Shannon, I explained everything to her and she was VERY NICE AND HELPFUL and fixed the mistake within two days. Anyways this facility is very nice but do not do any business with SABRINA. And I hope corporate reads this and take a disciplinary action against her so she does not continue to scam people. read more

Nice facilities but the sales reps are straight snakes! I see other reviews on here about being tricked into a contract and I'm here to say its absolutely true!!! I was hounded by a rep named Natasha to sign up after I came in to inquire about pricing. I finally gave in after she promised me 10 bucks for a month trial. She proceeded to send me tons of emails to sign which I did and should have read first. The real red flag was when she asked for my card info over the phone for $10. I asked her to assure me that I was not signing up for membership and that I did not want nor did I have money for the recurring $60 fee. She promised I would not be charged automatically but low and behold I was. Im in the process of moving and that comes with a lot of fees, I work 2 jobs and don't even have time to come into this place. When I come in to clear things up the day after the charge they tell me theres nothing I can do and that I should read before I sign. They dont even care that I was duped into this! He then tells me I have to wait for the sales rep (Natasha) and see if she really said that I would not be charged. So basically her word on mine and shes not going to admit that she played me obviously! Then this Jerk-off named Jake cuts in, laughing saying 'its not that big of a deal' and 'we're the highest ranking location in the area'.. so shouldn't you guys care that your sales reps are dishonest and some of your customers feel tricked into a contract?!?! The manager tells me theres nothing he can do because he's not a lawyer... and hands me a corporate number. Finally I talk to SALES MANAGER, who says there is something she can do! Oh wow. Big surprise. Now I have to wait a week for her 'Director' to be contacted and my money is in their hands! I work hard for my money and pay my taxes this is ridiculous! Long story short if you dont know if you want to sign up for a membership do not give these people your card info and dont sign anything! They will keep your info on file and take your money, knowing you didn't want a membership and that you couldn't afford the 60 a mo. And the funny thing is I would have loved to sign up, I just dont have the time or money right now for another monthly payment and the people at the front desk were super unprofessional, even the sales manager admitted. I hope someone actually in charge cares that this is how your employees act. Because the knuckle heads at the front counter seemed like they wanted confrontation more than a solution and if you guys think you're going to make a career out of stiffing people for 60 bucks then thats a club no one should trust with their personal *UPDATE* The sales representative is just as tricky, she promised me that she would contact her bosses and get back to me and that there was something they could do... she proceeded to just not call and not follow up or let me know anything... so yeah tricked into a contract! The way these people play with your money and time and personal information is sick and they feel no remorse about it! Even the people who are above the snakes who work here condone the behavior. All they care is that you signed the contract, not how you were tricked into just trying it with promises of non-recurring payments, just sign this and that and gives us your card info for this. And the "owner" responded to my review saying they investigated my account... HOW when my name on yelp is not my real name?! These people are swindlers and hustlers and they're proud to be the scum of the earth. Guess Cal Fit doesn't pay enough if you need the sales commissions that bad! When I called to inquire about the double charge. They told me it was an "enhancement" fee for their remodeling. I was NEVER notified about the charge and I think the very least we deserved was a notice. The person's response when I called was, "well it is in your contract we can charge whatever we want." I love working out, I found this wonderful place a few weeks ago, I walked in and about fell out when I saw all the many different excersise equipment. Where do I sign up! I took a little tour signed up for a membership and been coming ever since. They also have a section for the kids ( additional fee). The personal trainers are great, as well the staff. read more

Staff at the front desk greet you when you check in and they have a display of fit gear you can purchase at the entrance. I been here for aqua and cardio classes , using different equipment to work out and meeting the regulars who attend classes. It's a GYM we go to get fit and use what they offer, Steam room and Sauna available locker room clean but scale works off and on. I am very disappointed with Cal fit because of the way they are handling Covid-19 and treating their customers during this uncertain time. When I got the news that they are reopening, I tried to get in contact with someone to cancel, due to financial hardship, but found it to be impossible. The email they sent, said to call the corporate office or email them with any cancellation questions. If you call, the cancellation department does not pick up and the voicemail box is full. If you email, you just recieve a generic autoreply. So I tried calling every other department only to have the same issue. The only department that answered was the delinquent payment department. I understand their priorities now. The only important thing to Cal fit is getting their money, so of course the only department answering the phone is the one collecting money from late payments. I talked to a staff member named Andre, who had nothing but attitude when I told him that I needed to cancel. He said I would be charged $300 for cancelling even though I'm facing financial hardship. I stated again that I am unable to afford the fee and the monthly memebership and may not be able to pay rent if I pay this fee. He responded by reminding me that Covid-19 was not Cal Fit's fault and my only options were to temporarily freeze my account which only defers the cancellation fee or resume the monthly membership. I then asked to speak to a supervisor. He transferred me, but it went to voicemail. It has been a week and I still haven't received a call back from the supervisor. Calfit's policies and practices right now are predatory and criminal because they are are clearly taking advantage of people to make more money during this pandemic. I never expected this type of treatment from Cal Fit. When my financial security returns to normal, I will never return to Cal Fit because of their unprofessionalism and greed during this difficult time. read more

I like this gym a lot. It is clean, the amenities are great (steam room!!!), and the staff is very friendly. (Yeah, what's up the the late night non-smiler??) I haven't been to the yoga classes because they are at the worst times ever. (11am during the week? What about having some classes after 5pm, for people who can use some meditation/relaxation? Whatev.) The X-Bike/Spinning classes are seriously off the hook and their personal trainers are excellent. Good times. All in all, it is a very cool and comfortable type of gym. I just wish they'd play better music. Unless you are a fan of Phil Collins and New Order rip-offs you might want to bring your ipod. read more

If you enjoy water aerobics, and want a challenging class, don't join Cal Fit clubs where Collette teaches (Carmichael and Arden clubs). Her class descriptions are "High intensity, intense, powered up, fast paced, designed to challenge." In reality, those in her class tend to be older and sedentary, and (understandably) don't want to move fast. Faster persons wanting a hard workout are blocked from moving and getting a serious workout. Management tried, but was unable to get Collett to designate an area for faster persons - despite the danger of faster persons colliding with slower persons. And management advises they won't force Collette to take that safety precaution. The rest of the classes and teachers and safety are good. read more

Do not sign up!!!! I have been overcharged since we signed up in October by $30 a month!!!! I have been contacting their customer service department, contacting the gym, and have received no response. I started contacting them about it since December when I caught the issue. What was agreed upon is on my contract, and this extra box appeared after my discussion with customer service, which is less than helpful and fraudulent. Also, they charged me a club enhancement fee in December of $50, which was not agreed upon. Great gym! Clean and easy to use layout, Cardio machines all clean and in good working order. They have a nice little area off the main gym that you can get your Bozu Ball and other balance workouts done with out being in the traffic lane. I should take advantage of the trainers as they all seem to have happy clientele. I would like to confirm a problem that another Yelper pointed out about California Family Fitness at another location. I cannot stream movies when I am working out! I also think that they skimped on the extra butter I asked for on my popcorn and the biggest size Coke they offered was a measly 64oz! You call yourself a gym! read more

I have a love hate relationship with CalFit! I love them because they have all the machines, classes & amenities I could possibly want. There staff is amazing. I'm not a gym rat by far but the staff has NEVER made me feel anything but welcomed! They'll stop and answer the easiest of questions (how do you work this blasted machine!) without hesitation. I've worked with a trainer, done BodyFit and worked by myself and have come to 'enjoy' going in. The faces are familiar & will either talk to you or leave you alone depending on your level of comfort. All in all I'm happy to spend my monthly fee here!!!! I go to this location when it's convenient for my schedule. But it definitely has more variety in group classes than my usual location (Howe Ave.). It is bigger, though not as big as one of the flagship locations. Tons of equipment and machines that are pretty new. TVs everywhere, even in the locker room. Only downside is that they broadcast the sound on radio channels. So if you don't have some sort of device that can pick up the channel, you're SOL. That is, unless you manage to get one of the few machines with an attached TV. Locker rooms are very nice, and lockers are digital locks where you make your own code. I dislike how many people seem to drench themselves in the pool and leave a river of pool water in the hallway, in the toilet stalls, in the locker room, and on the benches in the locker room.... And for some reason, it seems to always be full of high school kids lifting weights... read more

This location has had some work done! Staff at any Cal Fit are always super friendly! Even if they're just walking by you they will smile and say hello! This location was no different! Friendly staff at the check in and friendly staff throughout the gym. This gym has a new cardio room with a bunch more cardio machines that were not here the last time I came. That was a nice update because this is one of Cal Fit's smaller gyms and sometimes it was hard to find a machine. The only thing about the cardio area is that some of the machines are older models. I only saw one type of elliptical and it was one of the older models that I HATE. They have a few newer treadmills in the front but in the cardio area they are all older. The entire gym was very clean and well kept. One of the reasons why I love Cal Fit gyms is because you can almost always see one of their staff members cleaning. The locker room has key code lockers so don't worry about bringing a lock and this facility has a pool and steam room! This is a smaller gym with a lot of amenities! read more

I love the Arden/Carmichael Cal Fit. The best part is the kids club. The kids club manager, Courtney, is warm and welcoming to each child and the whole staff there is amazing! They have crafts and games for the older kids and in the baby area they play with bubbles, read books and sing songs. They actually play and interact with the kids unlike other gyms where the staff looks annoyed to be there. The gym itself is very clean and well maintained. Also, they have great classes. read more

The Carmichael Club close to Marconi has significant issues regarding the Men's locker being clean when it opens at 5 AM. Normally we have a (porter/janitor) young lady named Carmen who does a Great Job! The men's locker and sauna are very clean and she is constantly cleaning other areas of the club. I was informed recently that she will be off work and a porter/janitor named Angel will be her replacement while she is off work. Here are the issues. This guy is TERRIBLE and VERY LAZY. When the club opens at 5 AM the entire men's locker is VERY DIRTY. The floors are a mess and the showers and urinals smell (health and safety issues). At least twice a week the sauna isn't cleaned by the time the club opens. If and when Angel gets around to cleaning the locker room he has all kinds of equipment spread all over (safety issues) and in the way of members trying to shower etc. The quantity of his work is very poor! I have mentioned these issues to Management and they have done nothing to address them; instead they make excuses! This club should have had a MAJOR CLEANING completed before it opens the next day. If staff or operational issues need to be done, then DO IT! Your club's reputation is at stake. read more

I love this gym. The sauna and steam room is really clean. They have two outside pools a jacuzzi and an indoor basketball court. They also have free classes if you get a membership which include swimming lessons, kickboxing, cycling class, yoga,etc. read more

The good: - Clean gym - Equipment in good condition - Staff are friendly - Childcare is great; my kids like playing there and the caregivers who oversee the play center are great The bad: - Not a huge gym - When it is busy, some of the equipment (esp. ellipticals) fill up quickly - Seem to have a lot of problems with thefts in the parking lot. Criminals are very brazen with 'smash and grabs', even right in front of the gym. They grab what they can and head for Fair Oaks or Marconi, never to be seen again. People, don't leave ANYTHING in sight in your car. The Ugly: OK, so part of the reason we joined is so in the summer, the kids have a place to cool off. This past summer, pretty much everytime we'd go there to get in the kiddie pool, there was this HUGE, and I mean morbidly obese, woman in the pool. If you've seen the twins on the minibikes in the Guiness Book of World Records, you know what I'm talking about. Now before you go hating on me, I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with her that probably makes the obesity not her fault. She doesn't seem quite right is what I'm saying. Anyway, one day as the kids were splashing around in the kids pool, I found myself wondering how this woman bathes. I mean, there's no way she'd fit in a tub or shower. That's when it dawned on me. THIS was her bath. After that, I realized that she would move back and forth between the kiddie pool and the spa. Oh nasty. Just imagining the shmegma that must be between those folds of skin. So far, so bad. For the most part the people working the desk are of no value. My daughter goes to work out as a guest and they tell her she has to sign up online first. Comes back a couple days later after signing up online and they tell her she can't and needs a member with her. This is after we paid a fee so that she could work out there for a month before she moved out. Every time it is something else. Then my wife signed up for one month guest and they continue to charge it monthly even though we don't need it any more. My wife asked about the fee and they insisted they weren't charging us anything, but of course they are. We signed up for the one on Watt/Arden which was supposed to open in June and it still hasn't opened. I would not sign up if this was the one you would be using primarily. read more

We are members in another Sport club for the last 15 years. Recently We added CFF to spice up our routines. I am pleasantly surprised to see the same class instructors that I paid four times as much to see in the other clubs. I love this location more than the other CFFs because the staffs here are more engaging and caring. This review is not about this location specifically, but the new location in the Pocket-Greenhaven area does not show up yet and this is where I was a long-term member. I moved to the Pocket-Greenhaven area about four years ago. One year ago I finally called to cancel my membership because, as I explained to them, there were no close facilities. Now I find they have opened a new facility close to my home and I received an email that said "Restart your Cal Fit membership for just twenty bucks..". What it should have said was for twenty bucks, you can become a new member as they pretty much laughed that I thought I could restart my membership. I left a message for Lindsay in the corporate office and never got a call back. Since I filled out the paperwork, I have received two emails offering me new membership for just a $9.99 start up fee. so i've decided to rewrite my review for cal fit. yes, the gym isn't as spacious and doesn't have as many of the cool amenities as the other gyms, but i like the smaller atmosphere. the people that work there are always nice and helpful. my one complaint that i won't update is the yoga classes. i am starting to have more open availability to go to the ones during the day, but the times still should be more spread out, not just at 11 am or 6 pm on a friday night. i also think that they should have a class for moderate yoga doers. the beginning classes can be too slow and the power yoga is good, but sometimes a little too hard for me. read more
