I walked into a residential building, turned around and started to walk out but the nice door man helped me find it around the corner. I went in between lunch and supper so it wasn't busy but the food still tasted fresh. Service was fast. The portion was generous. As you can see from the picture, the whole bowl was filled with food. Healthy Indian Cuisine served here. Very classic named Indian dishes but reinvented without the excess, for example the sauces and heavier cream flavors are not present here. The food is fresh and "light" so don't expect the classic/heavier portions. That's not their motto here - their motto is "you are what you eat". Food Karma. The lines get quite busy at lunch time (weekdays) but if you order ahead using a few apps or food sites, you can skip it all (like I do). The food is always as pictured and my favorite so far has been the Chicken Curry & Rice. The flavors were all there and the heavy sauces were missing...which I didn't mind at all. The basmati rice is my favorite base. And for the sides, I liked the charred cauliflower seasoned with turmeric, curry, coconut and herbs. You can taste it straight away. Reminder as I looked over other reviews - they do tell you, this is not your usual Indian fare. It's a modified reinvention of the classics. All served in a convenient recyclable "to go" container. The balanced bowl is how you order - pick a protein, then a base (rice/salad/quinoa), and a side. Everything is labeled so you know what's vegan, dairy free and gluten free. That alone, makes it a very smart menu. Ease of ordering I say. What I mean is this: the fact that I'm given Inday five stars does not mean that it's as good as the five-star experiences I've had at upscale eateries. Rather, it means that relative to other healthy midtown lunch options, Inday deserves the highest praise. The food is innovative, healthy, and most importantly, DELICIOUS. Seriously delicious. Read on... Inday is a fairly new, fast-casual eatery in the oft-trafficked Flatiron district. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the setup is along the lines of Dig Inn/Chipotle. You start with some kind of base (grains or veggies) and travel down the human conveyor belt to receive your finished product. Personally, I like this better than Dig Inn - less greasy/heavy than some of the options there. The steps at Inday are as follows: -Base: Two grain ("warm) options (quinoa, cauliflower rice, etc.), two veggie ("cold") options (salad-esque). Important note: These bases ARE seasonal. My first time here, I came in expecting to order the Emerald or Rainbow bowl. To my (initial) dismay, they had already changed their menus for fall. But I've always been a fan of seasonal menus so I'm not going to fault Inday for this. -Vegetable sides (also seasonal): Pickled carrots, butternut squash and charred broccoli (free) -Protein: Chicken, salmon, turkey, steak, smoked tofu, paneer scoop. Seriously. Seriously seriously. I've said that word too many times in this review, but it must be repeated. I've never had a tofu preparation like this and it was just so yummy. It's shredded and seasoned in tomato chutney - THIS is the way to prepare tofu. Tofu on its own is bland - the sponginess of it lends itself to soaking up flavor. We all know this. Yet that property isn't always taken advantage of properly. Inday does - I forgot I was eating tofu halfway through my lunch, and just delighted in the yummy chutney. Meat-eaters, you might be pleasantly surprised with this one. Quick note on service: The people working here are just divine. I'm not sure if this is because the hiring manager has a fantastic head on his/her shoulders or because these folks aren't jaded by the midtown madness yet, but regardless, I've noticed. Everyone I've interacted here has been sweet, helpful and informative. I was confused about my tofu when it was first served - I had never seen that kind of preparation before - and the guy helping me dealt with my newb ambivalence by graciously providing a little explanation. Ah, Inday. They're in a dead heat with Indikitch for best Indian fast casual restaurant in the area. I hate to compare restaurants to each other (I'd prefer to judge them on their own merits), but such similar concepts demand it. So far, I'd call Inday prettier, healthier, and more welcoming. With bases in their bowls of not rice (cauliflower) and root veggies, this can be a far lighter option for a work lunch. The folks behind the counter are weirdly friendly and accommodating, and they'll load you up on the good stuff. A spicy chicken bowl is an excellent choice, and the presentation is actually gorgeous; lots of colors, lots of flavors, and shoveling it all into my face is a pleasure. The space (off the avenues) is actually strangely quiet and calming as well. We went here because we wanted a quick lunch, & we were hungering for Indian food. It is a small place, counter, and about seven tables. It is also a huge takeout place. The people there are very helpful. We stayed there & ate. Some people share their tables with others because at lunch it gets pretty busy. There is a park nearby to take out & eat in the park. I had tandoori, and Naan. I usually do not like Indian food, but this was wonderful. It wasn't spicy, even though there are spicy options. Each flavor stood on its own. Pick your base of rice, cauliflower or quinoa, then onto the protein of lentil curry, tikka turkey meatballs, salmon, short rib, or tofu, with side veggies and salad added on from there. There was so much flavor and color in my bowl! I went for quinoa with the Bombay basher (meatballs with slaw, kale, broccoli and pickled onions). I enjoyed it so much I ate every morsel. Make sure to get a turmeric chai iced tea to wash it all down. Only negative is the price - my lunch plus drink plus tax etc came to just over $16. A bit steep! read more

I recently found out about this place after searching for Indian spots in the area. I had no idea what to order, so I settled for the chicken rice bowl because you can't go wrong with that. If the food isn't spicy enough for you, try it the green hot sauce that they have provided on the table tops. It is truly delicious. One of the reasons that I really grown to love Indian food in the recent years was for the flavorful, spicy and colorful aspects. Giving three stars because the food was amazing but one staff person (or the owner? Not sure) was really rude. I personally am just going to order out next time. I ordered via the iPad which was glitching - and didn't realize it had deleted the extra sauce I had ordered. When I asked about it, the staff person became defensive even when I pulled up my receipt and apologized that it got removed (even though I added it). I guess this made her not like me much, so when I asked for a to- go lid and a bag she just grabbed a dirty lid off the prep table (covered in grease, food and fingerprints) and threw that and the bag on the table at me. I told her the lid was dirty and just took the bag (didn't even ask for a new lid at this point) and she started arguing that it wasn't and slamming things around as I walked away. Really great quick lunch spot. Went here around 1215pm on a Thursday and was happy to not see a line out the door like sweetgreen and dig inn. I was feeling really indecisive and the woman serving me was helpful and patient as I made my decision. She gave me her recommendations as well. I went with the "Curry Flower" bowl and they let me make a few adjustments with no problem, which I appreciated because some places aren't so lenient with substitutions. I switch basmati rice in place of the cauli rice and added the purple slaw. Also got a side of the yogurt sauce. I was nervous the portions would be stingy but it was the complete opposite.. my bowl was heavy and VERY full. Total came out to $11.98. Really not bad considering how large of a portion it was. I was left very full after finishing it. Will definitely be back again to try some of the other bowls (and love how you can customize your own, too!). Gobsmacked! Absolutely gobsmacked I've worked in the area for four years and I've never been to Inday. Was in the mood for some Indian flavors today and Yelp informed me that Inday was only two blocks from my job. I ordered a build your own: Cauliflower rice, super greens, butternut squash, curry chicken, eggplant, beets, and avocado crema. What! Not sure what I was expecting, but these were some intense flavors! There was spice, and sweetness, and creamy. It just got better and better with every bite. This small restaurant in NoMad seems to do a lot of takeout business, but they do have a few small tables inside. The food was fresh and tasty. The dishes are more indian-inspired than traditional, but the spices were on point! I had a chickpea bowl with a base that was a mix of cauliflower rice and a quinoa salad. It was delicious! My mom had a curried bowl with the same base and the chicken was juicy and well seasoned. My only complaint was that I wasn't able to customize my bowl at the order kiosk to remove cilantro. (The dish I ordered didn't mention cilantro, but there was a big pile of it on top of my food.) I have that issue with cilantro tasting like soap, so I always ordered things without it. There were really no customization options for the bowls, other than the base. If you have allergies, definitely talk to someone if you can find someone as ingredients on the menu may not be complete... Wow. This food is soo tasty and super healthy! You can choose either a built bowl or make your own. I decided to build my own, choosing the cauliflower Rice as the base. I got the chicken (mix of light and dark but so flavorful) with tons of fresh veggies - big chunks of seasoned jicama, incredible coconut chutney and crispy bits on top. I also tried their chai - it was spicy and tasty. The dosa waffle with tomato chutney was pretty good but a little sour for my taste. Definitely return for fantastic power bowls. read more

Inday did not come to play. After a particularly fatty, carb-filled trip to Asia, I needed to reset and try and be healthy and low-carb to not be what I call, gay obese. Looking for delivery, I went from restaurant to restaurant with carbs part of every option. Then I clicked on Inday, and saw the cauliflower rice and was like done. What I didn't expect was food that I would be excited about and crave. I ordered the Curry Flower + Chicken and the Winter Greens. The chicken had a good char and amazing flavor. Everything really was a punch of flavor and variety in textures, all with amazing balance. I felt satiated and energized, and I didn't feel bad about it. I can't attest to authenticity but I think it's all well-seasoned and uses all the spices well. I even love the green hot sauce that comes with it (though a little goes a long way). Came her for lunch around 1:30 pm. If I was evaluating this restaurant solely based on food and portion size, then I would rate this place 5 stars. However, one of the ladies behind the food service counter was extremely rude and pushy. For my veggies, I chose the cauliflower rice, sweet potatoes and cabbage slaw. Both the sweet potatoes and cabbage slaw had a slight sweetness which balanced out the saltiness of most of the other foods in the bowl. For protein, I order both the golden curry chicken and baked falafel. The curry chicken is definitely worth a mention because it was so flavorful and delicious, but still, healthy It tasted almost like the heavy, creamy curry served at more traditional Indian restaurants, but didn't leave me feeling sluggish and heavy. For my toppings, I got the coconut chutney, watermelon radishes, umami seeds and miso beets. Everything complemented each other very well. I thought there was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. For all the Indian food purist haters out there this isn't anything like your average curry shop. Nor is it an afterthought of a concept that's desperately trying to be fake Indian. And for those who judge Indian food by its overabundance in the form of an AYCE lunchtime buffet? Nah you've got the wrong impression of what Indian food is all about. Yes this might just be the Chipotle of Indian-ish concepts but they really do an awesome job of combining subtle flavors in their varied bases (basmati rice/cauliflower rice/greens/lentils), proteins (chicken/fish/vegan), veggies (varied!), sides, and sauces. I can only imagine the back of the house prep work would be nothing short of a huge orchestra of culinary knife prowess. And when it all comes together as mine did with almost everything including a mixture of proteins and all bases along with all sauces except for anything that appeared to be too heavy, well it was a symphony of flavors. Sure I love traditional North Indian food even in its stereotyped incarnation--chicken tikka masala + naan.
