Excellent fresh delicious food and great service!we Stopped for the night driving back to Michigan, we placed a take out order and bring back to our hotel. We had the chicken tikka masala, palak paneer and mango chutney with our garlic naan bread. The restaurant was extremely clean and very busy for the dinner Rush. The portions are two people were perfect and very filling , very fresh excellently seasoned and very well cooked juicy chicken. We will definitely stop here every time we make this stay in Victor. Josh, the server was beyond helpful and just great. they forgot to put the mango chutney in our bag and called me immediately for an easy pick up. The food was authentic and amazing! Enjoyed the chicken tikka masala with raita and the day's side dish of potato and peas. Dinner was enjoyed as takeout but not before sipping the masala chai tea. I was visiting from out of town and Indian food is my favorite so thought I'd give this place a try. I went about an hour after the buffet opened so I suppose I missed the good food, but not so sure. I believe the food was left over from the day before. The rice was hard and crunchy, the naan was also hard and tasted stale. The only thing I thought was even edible was the palak paneer. The person that came with me didn't end up eating much. To top it off when I looked ad my receipt, they charged us $2 more per person than the "daily buffet price" posted on their door, which made the price quite high. I probably wouldn't have minded so much if the food was edible but we both left hungry. Maybe I just went on a bad day but this isn't acceptable on any day. read more

Wow! After receiving a doordash gift card, my wife and I took a look at what was available in our area. We typically pickup from our staple restaurants, so were excited to see what offerings were available. After we noticed our typical Indian restaurant (Tandoor of India - Fairport) was marked as closed on the doordash website, we thought we'd give India House a try. The delivery was prompt and the food was warm. All downhill from here. My wife got the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was incredibly bland and had barely any chicken. I got the Chicken Makhani, which was by far the worst I've ever had. I asked for it to be spicy in the comments, but not only was it not hot, but it was completely lacking in spice all together. I've had Chicken Makhani from a ton of places before and this was far and away the worst I've ever had. My initial taste of it couldn't even place it as being Makhani. I make better Makhani at home. The Naan was well cooked, but again, lacked in flavor. The best part of the meal was the random potato dish that was in our order. Maybe Aloo Masala? Overall- Steer clear. Had a hankering for some Indian food and despite having lived in this area for many years/visit this area due to family still here, I'm surprised I've never tried this place. Some great food. Got take out; Chole, Beef Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Garlic Naan. The Chole was delicious. The chickpeas were seasoned perfectly. The Tikka Masala was flavorful; you could taste the blend of tomatoes, cream, and vegetables in the sauce, and tender chicken pieces. My father is not a very adventurous person when it comes to food. This is a man who is sparse in praise for any food unless asked how the food is, and yet he went out of the way to say that the Beef Vindaloo was tasty and that he liked it. Let me start by admitting that I had never had Indian cuisine before today. Now that I say that, I'm not sure why it took me so long. My wife's cousin and husband were in town for the weekend, and as it turns out, they love Indian so we made a reservation for the Sunday Buffet. After navigating a pop up snow squall on 490 East which slowed everybody, we'll not everyone, down to about 30 miles an hour. We arrived safely at India House in Victor. Looking around at the traffic on the highway, it seems we have some very talented drivers here, who can text and drive quite fast while passing other cars during a mini white out. ( I'm referring to the speed of driving as I can't confirm the speed at which they can text). Greeted by a friendly host, all 10 of us were seated at a long table in the back. Very nice. We quickly got down to the business of eating. I went up three times and tried everything they had. Our host even brought us a few platters of food, which was unexpected and much appreciated. One person in our group has been to India and did attest that the food was a good representation of what she had in county. I liked everything I had, but did not have anything stand out. I will try Indian again because once isn't enough to really form a good impression. read more

I hardly ever give bad ratings but this was warranted for sure. We got here in the early afternoon for their lunch buffet. Having had lots of Indian buffets before, we thought this would be a great place to try out that's close by. The location is nice, kind of set down from the main part of 96. The building looks like a white house that's a little older. I guess people would say "it has some character." Ample parking. The dining room is kind of like a great room with high ceilings and ample natural light with the windows and glass door. Very pretty. It was nearly empty except for 2 other tables. The gentleman who was the host and waiter was very friendly and seated us. We went to the buffet, which was fairly full, but poorly lit in a different room. As usual, I grab a few different items on a plate and a bunch of fried items and breads on a different plate. The food was sad. I think that's the best way I can describe it. Sad in a way that the chicken itself knows it could have been better, but didn't try, and therefore failed. And there isn't much variety in terms of meats. All the dishes were either chicken or vegetarian. No lamb, no beef. The different sauces (vindaloo, tikka, makhani, etc) were lukewarm and not very flavorful. The chicken was likely cooked on its own, then added to the different sauces, which did not help the dryness. You know how sometimes you look at and eat a dish that's presented to you and you think to yourself "this is a LIVELY and tasty dish!". Well, this was the absolute other end of it. The flavors weren't offending or anything like that, but it was just dead. No punch of spices. No velvety silkiness of the butter chicken sauce. No juiciness of the chicken meat. It's like there was no love and no care put into the stuff and it was just a very dead dish. A very sad, pathetic dish that knows it had potential to rise to greatness, but just simply gave up and now just lays in the corner, unnoticed, uncaring, directionless, wallowing in its own tears. The best thing they had was a crunchy vegetable fritter. Kind of hard to mess those up, but the breading was getting soggy too. The only thing that saved this review from no stars was the gentleman who was our host and waiter was a very nice and attentive guy. I hope the owners revive this place. I hope they bring forth better quality and keep the gastronomical cultural melting pot that keeps Rochester a good place going. There are far too many restaurants here that are mediocre. And if the India House doesn't strive to improve, it will go the same way as many other failed businesses. read more

I've ordered from here several times and it's less than desirable. Recently, when our favorite Indian restaurant was closed, we ordered paneer makhani and a vindaloo dish. The food lacked flavor. The pakora appetizers were good, but even the naan was bland. Also, the restaurant is dirty there are cobwebs in the dining room and dust balls on the floor of the entrance. Makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. I would not recommend. read more

Normally we eat at the city location but we were in the area and we had not had an Indian fix all summer so we stopped for dinner. It was pretty empty on a Saturday evening. Service was prompt (unlike the city location at times) but the theme at both places has been the griping of the servers about the owner. Sounds like they have a bunch of unhappy workers and they are not afraid to tell the customers. And now with a third location in Webster we shall see what happens next. Anyway the food as always was very good - the Chicken Moglai and Chicken Makhani (sp?) had nice flavor and just the right amount of spice. The nan and raita helped cool the heat. We were actually the only people in the restaurant at 12 on a weekday, which seemed strange to me. We love Indian food but had a really hard time finding a good place when we moved back to Rochester from the NYC area about 3 years ago. We found India House in Victor 2 years ago and we've been coming back ever since. We usually get takeout, but when we do dine in the service is always very friendly and quick. We recommend the Chicken Makhani, the Shahi Korma and the Onion Kulcha, but pretty much everything we've had here has been very good. read more

They have an all you can eat buffet which we will come back and try so we can eat a range of what they have The employees are friendly and helpful to order if you are new to this style. India House in Victor unfortunately falls down for me in the exact same way their main location on S. Clinton Ave does - in the poor cooking of their main entrees and in their breads. I suppose consistency is usually a plus for most places if they have secondary and tertiary restaurants, but it's really not a good thing when elements like their sauces and proteins (especially the chicken) are either dry or completely flavorless. I'd rant about it more, but as mentioned in my review of their S. Clinton Ave establishment, the chicken continues to be sawdust-y dry where you have to chew considerably before getting it down, and their breads are far too thick and fluffy, also completely lacking in salt and that basic crispiness I've come to expect from housemade naan and kulcha. Ultimately the eating part of my evening was not a grand experience to say the least. On the bright side, the manager (who happened to be our waiter when I went) was beyond friendly and funny, and the complimentary sides that came to table of potato and chickpeas were actually quite to my liking. Honestly if I had just eaten that all night, I would've been a much happier customer than being forced to slowly make my way through the ill-prepared curry. So with that said, I think I'm officially done with India House. I've given them several tries over the years, but there's just better in Rochester. I just feel for the Victor area because I really don't know of any good Indian establishment out that way. read more

I visited there on Monday for the lunch buffet.... Food was cold, rice lumpy appeared reheated, tandoori chicken was old and very over cooked ( difficult to pull apart with my hands) most the food was inedible and a health hazard. The person I came with had horrible stomach problems for the next day after eating there. It seemed as though the chef cooked the food then left for the day, naan shouldn't be prepared ahead of time and placed on the buffet. Needless to say we didn't finish eating, but still ended up paying over $10 per person. Steep price for garbage leftovers from god knows when. I hate to give a bad review, but have to here. I arrived at 11:30 AM for the lunch buffet, and had to wait about eight minutes for the hot food to be set up. Cold items took until 11:50 to arrive. I was the only customer the whole time. The food was substandard. Currys were bland. Vegetable vindaloo was a mix of what looked like frozen vegetables mixed with a under-seasoned sauce. Tandoor chicken lacked flavor. The onion pakora was ok. On the plus side, the lentil soup was tasty and the naan was acceptable. The restrooms and interior were also clean. On balance, the modest-sized buffet cost $10.99-higher than most other area Indian lunch buffets. Until India House gets its act together, it's worth the drive to Canandaigua to eat at the superior Flavors restaurant. Sorry India house. read more

Since my husband and I moved to Victor last summer, we have been eyeing this place for quite some time. We finally got a chance to go for the lunch buffet. Service was nice and friendly! The food, on the other hand, was not so wonderful. There were about 4 different chicken dishes, and chicken was the only kind of meat that I could see that was offered in the whole buffet. The chicken in every dish was dry and chewy, the sauce didn't help that much. Some of the other dishes looked and tasted like they had been sitting out for a long time. Overall, the food quality and the way it is prepared is sub par and I wish there was more variety in the buffet. We don't really have any desire to come back for a dinner. read more

Worst Indian meal I've had ever. First, service was spotty-- had to go find a waitress to take our order. Then we were told that the $13 entrees don't come with naan or the lentil or potato side dished that the other location used to give for free. So we ordered meals and breads...and when the food arrived there was a terrible odor. We realize quickly that it's the rice-- it smells like it has been cooked in Rose Water-- which I have a strong aversion to. It was difficult to even eat the meal with the rice on the table. My chicken Makhani had an ok sauce, but the chicken wasn't at all stewed-- it tasted as if it had been sauteed plain and then dumped into the sauce right before serving. My son's Palak Paneer had no flavor at all. It tasted like pureed spinach baby food-- and he and I usually love that dish at other restaurants. My husband's Beef Korma was passable, but that's the only dish that was. Worst part is that it came to a whopping $60 for 3 entrees, bread and one pot of Masala tea. NEVER AGAIN! read more

First time here. The kitchen was slow, to say the least,but the service pleasant and helpful. The space, very large, is hard to decorate. Kind of cold. Needs help. But the food does not.
