Average Indian food at above average prices. We ordered the Lamb Vindaloo, Garlic Naan, and a Coke for delivery. We received a diet coke, and that's just gross, but it was the highlight of the meal. The Garlic naan was decently spiced and fluffy with a good bite, which was marred by the sour tang of something burnt tasting. The Lamb Vindaloo was a huge disappointment. At $14.99 you get about a cup and a half of rice and 3/4 cup of Lamb and potato Vindaloo. You expect a Vindaloo to be fairly spicey, the cook must have made it for a below average spice tolerance of a midwesterner because there was no kick and it lacked in flavors other than a light curry and vaguely tomato. The lamb was stringy and fell apart, it tasted dry in the mouth even when covered in sauce. We couldn't decide if it was poor quality, left to simmer for too long waiting for a buyer, or if had been frozen and thawed too many times. I wanted to try a new Indian place out but can not recommend India House at this price point for this quality. read more

Ordered lamb vindaloo to go, when asked if I wanted it spicy or not I requested spicy. Lamb vindaloo is an already spicy dish so a "spicy" vindaloo should be a 3 alarm fire, which is how I like it. Also ordered a garlic naan. Total came out to $26. This was a very disappointing meal as there was more potatoes in my lamb vindaloo than there was lamb meat. There could not have been more than 3 ounces of lamb meat that I received. There was absolutely no spiciness, it was completely mild. I basically paid $30 (with tip) for some lamb flavored potatoes, rice, and garlic bread. What a joke. read more

Maybe its because my friend and I have to do the early bird dinner, but we both noticed whenever we dine out, we are always the first ones at the place. We even beat the seniors. Note, this place doesn't open for dinner until 5PM. Samosas remind me of little pot pies. Every place prepares theirs different, but this place was the best. Flaky crust, not greasy and a plentiful amount of meat inside. Spinach Naan was pretty good. I like my Naan a little chewy and chewy it was. I ordered the chicken bariyani. Not the best I've ever had, but it was alright. I'm not a fan of super huge chunks of meat in my rice dishes and this had really big chunks. Ordered spice level hot, and it wasn't that spicy. Came home with a bix box of leftovers. Usually if anything is remarkably good, I don't have any leftovers. Prices are reasonable and very reasonable when it comes to the appetizers. Service was pleasant and attentive. Nice dining atmosphere. More of a 3.5, not quite a 4 to constitute being a fan yet. read more

I have been to many Indian restaurants. At least the first time I attend, get the Chicken Tikka Masala. It's my favorite dish, and I want to compare the different places. Well I've been here multiple times, and not only choose this place as having the best Chicken Tikka Masala so far, but for many other reasons too. The food is wonderful. Sometimes I've gone with Caucasian friends, who like spicy to the extreme, and what we end up doing is I order for them and they order for me. Because oh course I'm Indian, I MUST LOVE EXTREME HOT!, well no. But here at India House, they get the order surprisingly on point in the spicy rating scale. 1st and only Indian place that has done that for me and my Caucasian company. There samosas, both the beef and vegetarian are delicious. I have really enjoyed most of their dishes except for the paneer dishes. I'm not a huge cheese person. But the people I go with have said they are yummy. The service isn't terrible, but sometimes there is a miscommunication between server and customer. Not really a fault, but you can tell sometimes the server doesn't understand the request. ie. Why would you not want cashews on your biryani, it adds to the appeal. Take out is something I do often and I'm never disappointed. They are timely, and efficient. Overall, definitely the best Indian place so far food wise through out the Twin Cities. I've been craving the Chicken Shahi Korma curry ever since I came here! This is my new favorite place for Indian food, glad to see they have a location in Maple Grove too. I ordered the Shahi Korma mild since it was my first time here and didn't want to over do it on the spice. It came out with pretty much no spice at all but I wasn't too disappointed since the flavors of the dish were addictingly good. My friend and I also split the Lamb Curry and Garlic Naan which were both delicous too. The dishes looked small but they came with so much rice it's actually very filling and the rice absorbs all the yummy curry. The restaurant itself was clean and furnished nicely with Indian themed decor. Very unprofessional service, I called ahead and was lied to on the phone and told dine in closed at 9 so I ordered take out. I arrived at 9:20 only to find customers still seated and eating. I asked if me and the other person I was with could eat our food there and they agreed. I briefly left to use the bathroom and when I came back I was told other customer were leaving and so I had to leave too. At this point it was 9:28 and the website says the restaurant closes at 10. I don't go to St. Paul often, but when I was there last week, I was craving Indian food. I ordered online and picked up my food at India House. I got the Lamb Palak ($15.99) which is boneless lamb and spinach in a light curry sauce and Keema Naan ($2.99) which is ground beef-stuffed naan bread. The entree came with a big helping of basmati rice. I arrived and my food was ready for me when I got there. The lamb was so tender and I loved the light sauce. I chose a "hot" spice level, but it was pretty mild, so I'd suggest to order a level up from what you normally order at Indian restaurants. I've never seen ground beef-stuffed naan anywhere before, so I'm happy I've found it here! They gave me plenty of naan and the meat in it was very tasty! India House is currently only open for take out and their entire dining section is blocked off. They have a large space, and I hope they'll be open for dine-in soon! Found out that Everest on Grand was closed on Tuesdays, so I went down Grand to check out India House. Very nice interior, lots of very polite and helpful staff, and then I tried the buffet. I won't rag on them for a first visit, but I was pretty unimpressed. Few veggie entrees (though the Daal was passable), pretty much all chicken. Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry, and some unidentifiable dish with peas that tasted of coffee. May be some folks who like it, but it didn't ring my bell. A lonely beef curry. I don't expect spice at an Indian buffet, and I was not disappointed. Curry and Masala were pretty bland. Everest is unafraid to put out spicy stuff. They kept the steam trays full, which was a good sign. Hear that they rotate the buffet options. I'd be willing to give them another shot. But I'm not aching to go back. read more

I called to place and order for pick up, the first thing the man says "are you really coming to pick it up, because you people always order and never come pick it up"! That threw me for a loop, you should not pre judge your customers. I have enjoyed my experiences in the past at India House and live nearby, but I thought that comment was rude to make. And since I am writing about this experience I will add although I've enjoyed the food in the past, it had been a long time since I ordered from here because the last time I was there I ordered the mango ice cream and there was a bug frozen in the middle of it, that was an awful experience. I believe that Yelp ought to have a no stars option. This is THE WORST INDIAN FOOD AND SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD. Yes, the yelling is necessary. My daughter wanted to go out for Indian food on a Sunday evening. Her criteria involves a place having at least four stars on Yelp before she'll take it seriously. So, we found India House. It's not far from where I live, though I do try to avoid Grand Avenue most of the time. We were seated quickly and waited several minutes for the waiter to acknowledge us. There were two other tables occupied at the time of our arrival. The restaurant was pretty much empty, otherwise. We ordered the beef samosas as an appetizer. My daughter got the chicken tikka masala. I ordered their SIGNATURE DISH. The samosas were OK, though dry.Our mains came out after some time. My daughter's meal looked great. Mine: BURNED. I tried eating a little of what was there, and it all tasted scorched. Normally, I send back food that's problematic. The lateness of the day and having already waited a while for very little, I didn't want to end up spending the night in the restaurant. When we were done eating, we sat for more than 30 minutes before the waiter returned to our table. A group of three was sat in the booth in front of us and he took his attention with them. It was rather obvious that no one was eating anything at our table at all. Still, we waited. The capper was the Yelp check-in discount of $5 off a bill of $25 or more. The waiter started saying that it's something that I should have printed out. I replied, "no, it's in the app" and no printing is necessary. It was obvious that it was a Yelp item and not from the restaurant's website. So, I allowed him to take his phone so that he could "talk it over with his friends". He came and got the bill and went away to write down the $5 coming off. Once he returned, I put down my card to pay for the meal and it took several more minutes for him to finally run it. We had been at the restaurant for two hours by the time we left. So, unless you want to endure the Valdemort of Indian food, don't bother going here. I'll never be back and grimace each and every time I drive by it now. read more

It was such a nice message and I just wanted to say that I really appreciated him taking the time to do that and will definitely give this place another shot in the future and write a proper update then. -- The good: -It would be a perfect restaurant for a big group. Lots of room and it's nicely decorated. -The shrimp masala: generous portion or generously sized shrimp, tangy and yummy. I'd order this again and again, but with more heat. -Buffet. They have one at lunch everyday, not just on weekdays. Weekends are made for buffets anyway... you can just go back to sleep afterwards. :) -Portion sizes. For three people, we shared two entrees, an order of garlic naan and veggie samosas. We didn't have any leftovers (sad face), but I was ridiculously hungry when I got there and I was totally satisfied at the end of our dinner. -Free parking! The meh: -Chicken makhani: the sauce was SO tasty, but the chicken was slightly overcooked. -Service... not bad, just not all there. I was a little late meeting my mom and sister there and had just sat down (coat still on) when the server came over and flatly said, "Ready?" He just seemed to be a little oblivious, even though we were nearly the only customers in the place because it was 5 p.m. -Heat levels: This is partially our own fault. We ordered everything medium because my mom was with us and she's wimpy, but it tasted mild. The food was good. We had Chicken Pakora, Chicken Josh, Naan and Sweet Lassis. Everything tastes good. Unfortunately, we had to keep reminding the server of things we needed (water, check, to go containers, to go bag for the containers) and it took the food an unusually long time to come out. I dream about this food. I crave their palak paneer ALL THE TIME. It's so good. I don't bother ordering any other entrees because the palak paneer is the best food ever. Ever. We come here pretty frequently. We usually get some naan to share, as well as black tea, and order our favorite entrees. We've brought people here to share the deliciousness, and we always hear about it later on - they ask when we can all go again. I could eat here every single day. It's THAT good. The garlic Naan was fantastic, but the rest of the food was just ok. It didn't have much flavor. I was disappointed as I had my mom along who asked a few questions about the food before ordering. The waiter gave a brief answer but seemed to have written us off after that. They didn't even give us the correct food, but weren't around checking on us to find out. I wouldn't recommend this place.
