Hands down my favorite Indian restaurant, great tasting food, nice quality service, and the cherry on top locally owned! I would recommend if you aren't good with spicy food to definitely get your food mild, the medium can a be a bit hot which is perfect for me, however hot and very hot are both pretty hot. My rating scale of 1-10 on Hotness would be mild 3/10 medium 5-6/10 hot 8/10 and very hot 10+ . If you like Indian foof or have never tried Indian food you need to come to India House, you won't be dissapointed. read more

Man I dont know, maybe I ordered on a bad day because some of these other reviews say otherwise. Maybe it's also because I ordered take out and didnt dine in... but jeez. I ordered butter chicken, garlic naan and regular naan. Came to about 20-something bucks in total. Not a bad price really, but I can kind of see why... First of all they gave me a tiny box with hardly any rice. And I mean hardly. I'm not the kind of person who has a high rice and little sauce ratio, I tend to go heavier on the sauce. But even with that, the amount they gave me didnt even cover half of my butter chicken. Now I have to go make some minute rice with it which is disappointing. Second of all, all of my naan is burnt. And I'm not talking about the crispy sort of delicious darker spots that you get on naan. I'm talking about like fully burnt to the point of only tasting char. I've only been able to scrape off a few salvageable pieces. Also the portion sizes are honestly kind of laughable. I could have gotten way more at Kathmandu for just a few bucks more. Learned my lesson. I'm giving this a 3 instead of a 2 because the butter chicken really is quite delicious... a little spicier than I would have hoped getting a lower temperature level, but it is still very good. Great authentic food, quick service, inviting ambiance with Ethnic music, and affordable price (for Indian food). Overall great experience with great service from the staff. They were very helpful in their recommendations. Mixed grill plate - This hot plate dish was perfect! Came out steamy, well seasoned and very well portioned. Not a saucy dish but the flavoring was extremely rich. Meat was tender and moist. Lamb coconut curry - medium spice level was very mild. I have a very low tolerance for heat and usually do mild but medium was possibly not even spicy enough. The coconut overpowered the curry and I didn't appreciate that. It was worth trying though. The Lamb was super tender and tasteful. Will probably get lamb again next time with another curry base. Vegetable masala curry - less sweet and more spiced than other masalas that I've had. The vegetables were a great combination to all the meat we had. The curry sauce was rich and tasteful. I probably wouldn't get it again because it was standard. read more

I'm writing about using the app doordash which delivered this fine cuisine. I scrolled to the most popular items. I got the Chicken Tikki Massala, garlic nann, Coconut Kurma, and a lamb Kabob. It came with yellow rice. Which I made fun of as I opened the container, but quickly ate my words ( pun intended). It was as good as Donald Trumps 4th of July state of the Union address. As I bit into the Chciken Tikki Masala I was transformed into a puddle. This was hands down my the BEST C.T.A I have ever eaten. Like I might sell my oldest for seconds. India House is hands down the best Indian restaurant in Salt Lake County. We've tried quite a few other Indian restaurants and nothing can compare to the taste and quality of every item on their menu. Our absolute favorites are the chicken tikka masala and chicken korma, but you honestly can't go wrong with any selection. Pair any meal with their delicious raita and naan (all types of naan are amazing) and you will leave full and happy. I'll definitely be back. I got chicken tikka masala, regular naan and cheese naan. Everything was amazing! Many of the Indian food places around here are just very bland. But my chicken tikka masala from India House was flavorful and full of spices. I love Bombay House, but I think India House is my new favorite. The cheese naan was amazing, but I recommend also getting a standard naan to go along with it. If you love Indian food and you're having trouble finding a good place in Utah, I definitely recommend trying out India House. We noticed that they have a little vegetable garden out back and I think part of the reason why their food is so good is that they might be growing some of their spices right there. This place has taken a serious nose-dive! I haven't eaten here for almost 5 years but I was hoping things had stayed the same and eating here would be akin to visiting with an old friend... how wrong I was. Where should I start? We walked in and were quickly seated. From here things went seriously FUBAR. The restaurant was freezing cold - they had the air conditioning cranked on an already chilly, rainy day. The interior looked unkempt. There were leaks in the ceiling and rain was dripping onto the floor in several areas - a really bad sign. We should have left right at this point. God knows what the kitchen looked like or how sanitary it was. The service at India House is offensively bad at this point. Awful. We sat at the table for 10 minutes before the first waiter finally acknowledged us. Our waiter clearly didn't want to be at there much less be waiting on a peasant such as myself. There was no thank you's, none of the customary small talk - rather it was "what do you want?!" Then another long wait for our food and drinks. When the food finally came out it was the other waiter, also a younger-looking dude, who brought the food to us. He literally slammed the food on our table without even making eye contact or speaking a word. The two waiters seemed to disappear for long periods of time - all the while there were numerous tables with patrons waiting for service, looking around dumbly wondering if they'd get to place their orders. My gut tells me these two jerk-offs were in the back having a smoke or bumping lines of coke. I had resigned to the fact that there was absolutely no way I was getting a refill. Both of the waiters gave us really bad, creepy vibes. The only redeeming part of this visit was the food which was hot and tasted ok. I didn't get sick luckily - which I fully expected would happen. We left and no I did not leave a tip - these @ssholes didn't deserve one. The small portions were expensive enough (they raised their prices since I was last there). I won't be back here and I recommend anyone who reads this to avoid this place at all costs. This restaurant was at one time a friendly, family-run affair - but I would guess the original owners sold the place, or are allowing their relatives to run the joint into the ground. It's tragic, really, to see such a great place turn into an utter sh_th0le. I'm perfectly happy taking my business to Bombay House or Kathmandu. read more

We always pass by this place and my husband keeps telling me we should try it until we finally did. This place is legit! They serve the best perfectly cooked rice. That's for sure! We got their snack platter for the appetizer, a combination of all the samosa and pakora both veggies and meat and they are extremely good! It's a must try! For only around $6 and you get to try all of them. Their mango juice was really good and garlic naan bread, oh-em-gee! The staff-really great group of guys. You will notice that there will be different faces giving you your orders, refilling your drinks, checking on you and giving you extra rice. What's amazing is you may not be dealing with the same person/server but they know your orders. Super nice people and the good is way amazing! We'll definitely go back to this place! I have been sick with a cold for a few days and my boyfriend suggested Indian food for lunch. We decided to go to one of our favorite spots. India House! It's always such a pleasant experience when we are there! Here is a quick review: The Atmosphere: We love how clean the restaurant is! The background music and decor is perfect and not overwhelming. The Service: The staff is also very friendly and always on top of things. I asked for lime or lemons for my water and he didn't even roll his eyes at me for asking for random things. The Food didn't take forever either. The Food: Oh my! Where do I start? So I'm a pescetarian and every time I go to a restaurant I'm always excited to see how much of a vegetarian/pescetarian variety they have. India House is no exception! I decided to go with the vegetable coconut korma which was delicious and although my palate is not the best when it comes to spicy foods, the medium spice was just fine. So far, I have to say that India House hits the top of my list for Indian food in the SLC. Many of you, dear yelpers, are probably trying to put that into some context. Does this guy know Indian food? Has he had a lot of it? The answers to that question are kinda, and kinda. So take into consideration that I'm not an expert, but I know what I like. I like Indian food. Let's start there. I'm becoming more and more a fan of it, and this was a pretty sweet experience. To start, there's not much to the restaurant. A rectangular dining room that's simple, if not a bit stark. I had lunch, so it's tough to say if it gets a little warmer (vibe-wise) during night time service. That's not a complaint, but could be useful if you were looking for a romantic dinner. There's a small parking lot here, and plenty of parking in the area. It's just north of the Sandy Antique Mall--look for the blue sign out front and enter from the south side. During Monday through Friday there's a buffet. $8.99 gets you the golden ticket and it looks like there are perhaps a dozen or so dishes... maybe less. I came over the weekend so it was to the menu. Being a fan of saag but also in the mood for some protein I opted for a chicken tikka saag. Oh nelly. That was some tasty, tasty saag. Rich, complex flavors bu not overwhelming, and just a hint of heat. I also got to sample the alu gobi, a cauliflower veggie curry, which was unexpectedly good. Not a sharp flavor, but decidedly more pointed than I expected. What order is complete without a side of naan? This time it was garlic, and it was a more subtle garlic naan than is sometimes served. I actually prefer it that way, and was pleased with the taste and serving size. Service was kinda and efficient, though we were the only ones there most of the time. It was a very late lunch and it was kinda quiet. The food came out pretty quickly and we never wanted for water. If you've not had Indian food, I should probably mention that uuuusually you pay a little more for it. In that way, India House in on par with most other places in town. That being said, you do pay for it just a bit. Our two entrees and naan came to $26 pre-tip, and they were on the cheaper side. But good Indian food is worth it, and this is good Indian food. read more

India House serves excellent Indian food, probably the best in the Salt Lake City area. The place looks weak from the outside and it has a funky, Indian decor with simple tables and chairs, but the food is amazing. I've had the Aloo Tikki (my favorite) Samosas and on the last visit, Samosa Chaat (my new favorite) as appetizers and they're all wonderful. Very fresh ingredients and filled with flavor. For mains, any of the curries that I've had have been delicious. The Coconut Kormas are too sweet for my but other diners I've been with loved them and they do have the same excellent flavor as their other dishes. They have loads of vegetarian dishes and can accommodate Vegans, if you're foolish enough to be one. My favorite appetizers are all vegetarian and I've had both meat and veggie mains and been totally happy with everything. You absolutely have to get some of the naan to go with your entrees. Yeah, they bring you delicious basmati rice, but the naan, freshly made is amazing. One order is enough to split with another diner, but you'll want more. Indian deserts don't do much for me, but other diners I've been with swear by their Kheer (rice pudding) and Gulab Jamun (like donut holes soaked in honey syrup). Also, I pass on the lassi, but it's had rave reviews from other diners with me. Don't miss this place if you're a fan of good, freshly prepared Indian food! Coke products. read more

Went here for lunch buffet and arrived after 1PM. The hot food kept coming from the kitchen. I love to see a buffet updated often like that. The hot, fresh naan was appreciated! The vegetarian dishes were uniformly excellent. The pakoras were particularly delicious. (I smother them in the sauce from the tikka btw.) I don't think I've had better Aloo Mattar better than theirs. The potatoes were soft while the cauliflower had some bite to it. The spice level was mild, but the salt level was perfect in every dish. My one criticism was that the chicken dishes weren't as good as the veg items. The chicken in the chicken & mushrooms tasted microwaved--that kid of "off" flavor. The chicken in the tikka was just plain dry. The tandoori chicken was excellent however. Service was minimal but appropriate. Everyone was very nice. All in all, one of Salt Lake's better Indian options. I'm not sure that the buffet is better than Taste of Punjab or that the food is overall better than Bombay House...but it is excellet nonetheless. read more

Very delicious Indian food. I was impressed; I've had a difficult time finding Indian food that impresses me. I had my tried and true favorite, chicken tikka masala, which had a nice creamy texture and wasn't acidic. I typically order my food extra spicy so it spicy for me. I finally met my match! I asked for extra spicy and received extra spicy. Hooray!!!! Their garlic naan has small chunks of garlic and is buttery. I like my naan on the more garlicky side so was very pleased. I was disappointed they charge for an extra dish of rice, after you've had your first dish ($3). The restaurant has an extremely small parking lot- beware if you go during prime dining hours. read more

First, if you read the rest of this review and don't just leave now and go try for yourself, well (a) there is something wrong with you or (b) it's closed. I've been here a few times over the years, but hadn't had dinner here in a long time, so while on my quest to build a list of my favorite Indian food places tonight became the night, and it did not disappoint. Food was phenomenal and consisted of: - Pappadum: Okay, but the microwaveable type common in a lot of places. Chutneys though we're very good. - Vegetable Pakoras: Absolutely delectable, best I have had anywhere. Had no idea how they could beat this. - Chicken Tikka Masala: All I can say is WOW. Got this hot and it was the perfect blend of spices, flavorful and creamy, and the chicken tasted phenomenal. One of the best CTM I have had anywhere. - Basmati Rice: Yep it was Basmati Rice, so all good here! - Naan: Just had the plain variety, and nothing wrong with it for that. Very tasty, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside but not doughy like some places. The atmosphere here is a little lacking compared to similar establishments, but it's still pretty nice. Service was okay but nothing outstanding, but food came quickly. Really it is the food alone that gets this 5 stars. It's a little pricey but most decent Indian places tend to be. After trying the Food Truck, which we LOVED, we have been wanting to try out the actual restaurant and finally got around to it. We stopped by around 12 on a Friday with baby in tow. There were several work groups that were there but there was no wait to be seated. The menu had a lot of options but we stuck with the Tikka Chicken, naan, and somosas. Everything was amazing! The food was tasty and just what we were in the mood for. They took great care of us with the baby and she even tried some of the food as well. The cost for what you got was great, except it was $3 for a coke which I thought a little much, but I usually get water so that is something my husband will have to resolve within himself. Dinner is the best choice for dining here and seeing what their chef can do. Buffett can be crowded and the offerings are pretty much all prepared mild. Their onion kulcha and vegetable pakora are quite memorable. They expanded their seating area and remodeled significantly in recent years, both inside and out. I preferred the way it used to be when this place was unknown and was a tiny, somewhat run down white building with hardly any seating. Oh well, that's life. It looks much better now and the food is just as good. Yelp map is misleading. India House is located on the west side of State, about one tenth of a mile north of 90th. read more

I ordered a bunch so all 5 of us could share: Mango lassi - decent, small glass. Garlic naan $2.29- decent, one giant one. better to get 2 if you have 5 ppl. Aloo Gobhi $9.99 (cauliflower & potatoes) - small bowl, tasted fine Bengan Bharta (eggplant) - tasty $10.59 Lamb Boti Masala $15.49 - nothing special, maybe only 4 tiny pieces of lamb. I don't remember if I even got a piece, but the sauce was nice & plenty of it. Tandoori Chicken $12.99 - barely enough for 5 people, tender & juicy. I liked it. Too much onions though. The first Indian restaurant I've been to in Utah and I was not disappointed! I had the chicken tikki masala and my friend had the coconut curry, and we ordered the garlic naan on the side. Since it was dinner time, it took maybe 20 minutes before they served the food, but it was worth the wait! The masala tasted amazing with the rice and naan. I ordered the shrimp masala and it was the most amazing Indian curry I've ever had... ever! The service, however, was the reason why this review isn't a 5 star. The restaurant had maybe 3 or 4 parties when our group of 6 arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night. It took about 45 minutes for our food to come out, and they forgot our 2 orders of garlic naan. We also had 2 different waiters serving us so that made things confusing. The drinks took a while to get out, and the soda was flat. The bill also took a long time to come. The price for what you get is ok, but more on the pricey side. The curry ranges from $12-15, and naan ranges from $3-5. I would return, just because the masala was amazing. read more

I'm no expert in Indian food and certainly not northern Indian food but I think I've eaten enough Indian to say I know good food. I live in SoCal and travel the whole west coast and I eat out a lot as a sales guy. This place is very good considering it's in Sandy. The Indian coffee is great. It has a made on the spot authentic flavor. The naan is sick good. I had the Peshwari Naan and it was really yum (it's sweet). It's not a 5 star place so you have to set expectations but it is legit authentic northern indian food and in Sandy! The service was cool too and a nice alternative to the chain restaurants in the area. It's worth visiting. Oh and the spicy is spicy but not overwhelming but only if you really eat spicy. I use Sriracha as ketchup to give a benchmark. It's a great mom and pop shop. read more

I have no idea what happened here. It's been a quite a while since I've been here, but it used to be great. Today, service was chaos, beers were out of stock, several dishes were not available, and the front end guy was being trained. After an hour of sitting and waiting, we were ready to leave without eating. I let the staff know, and they replied with "They are making your food NOW." They served us 3 sub-mediocre dishes. I paid for the acceptable assorted snacks they served us and the one beer I drank, and we left without eating our meal. It was just sad. I don't know what else to say. Just down the street from us is this little gem! Delicious butter chicken and tikka masala! And the garlic naan is very flavorful although a little oily. I had dinner this evening and feel disrespected and do not believe I will be back. I ordered mild veggie masala. My partner ordered medium chicken masala. The waitress asked how it was. I let her know there was not much flavor. Asked if they could add some sauce. She ended up bringing me a whole new bowl dropped it at the table and walked off without a word. The other lady walked up and said is something wrong and that it was because of the spice. Let her know it had no flavor. It was not the spice it had no flavor. They were both quite rude. If you do not want to know how things are then do not ask. That was very disrespectful and rude. We will not be back. By the way the 2nd bowl actually had flavor, not that they asked or cared to check in on us after that interaction. We were ignored until she finally stopped and asked if everything was ok after she walked past numerous times to the table behind us. We had to ask for a to go box. Horrible service. read more
