My family and I had been going to a different Indian restaurant for a while, and we decided to try a new place. We found India House and decided to make a reservation for later that day. We arrived at the correct time and waited to be seated. It looked like there were only three people working, but it was not very busy. We sat at our table for fifteen minutes, and not a single worker talked to us. We understand that there are low staff, but they just kept walking past us, and did not even look our way. The least they could do is say they would be with us shortly, or apologize for the long wait. We didn't even get water. We ended up leaving without ordering anything because we had a long day and were starving. We went to a different Indian restaurant and got our orders in almost right away. I hope they get more staff here because the food was great the last time we waited for about half an hour. I would recommend this restaurant, but only if your willing to wait. read more

Good buffet l. Which is the only times i try their food. I come here every once in a while with co-workers and there are decent varieties of choices. I do think that they can switch flavors around more often for those who come often. Service is good, staff are nice, and helpful. The atmosphere is a little dark during the day. India house has the best Indian food I have ever had. Everything tastes homemade, and all of the staff are very polite and helpful. I have gone here several times and it is extremely pleasant every time. I ordered food to pick up and take back to my job during my lunch break today, but I ended up having to finish a report and I was not able to pick up my order. I called India House, and informed them of my situation. They were more than willing to deliver it to my work so I could still have my delicious food. I offered to pay for the delivery charge, since I was not originally charged it because I was going to pick up my order. They declined and did not make me pay the delivery charge, even though I offered several times. I am so happy with my service here. The smell walking into the restaurant makes you say yummy and the flavors in the meals are just as fabulous. Portions are generous. Chicken korma was tender and so flavorful. Big mistake! This was the first time I'd ordered from India House via Door Dash. I ordered the Jalfrezi Lamb and cheese Naan. Not only was it just not very good but to top it off, within a couple hours I had the worst food poisoning of my life. Do not waiver in your decision to try the Indian Coffee, nor the Mango Lasee. Nay, these beverages are made for the Gods and you should sample them while available for mortals at a mere $2.50 The service was absolutely the best, a rock solid 15/10 for kindness and expediacy as well as knowledge and approachability. Really lame. The atmosphere leaves much to be desired. Dark and dingy. The way they serve is to give the entrees to anyone, then point out who each item belongs to (so what's in front of you more likely belongs to someone else at your table). We had about 12 people at the table. The different naans (peshwari, garlic, etc) were just in one pile as the waitress explained "hers is the one on top, yours is the second one" and so on. When I asked the waitress about my order (because it seemed she was done serving), she pointed to the woman seated across from me saying, "that one's yours". Seriously?! What a stupid way to serve! So as the woman across from me had already devoured most of my entree while I was waiting for it. Later when the checks came she refused to pay since she "didn't order it". Yes, she's a moron. The samosas were so dry they were like eating chalk. I spit them out. And sadly, what I was most looking forward to was the peshwari naan so I took it home for later. But I gave it to the garbage can as it tasted like soap. Yuck yuck and yuck! I adore Indian cuisine but this was the absolute Worst place ever! read more

SO happy I found this place! I have tried a few different Indian places since moving to SLC, and this place is authentic and delicious. We were gonna take our food to go but the sweet aromas entranced to eat inside and I am so glad we did. Our waiter was so adorable and sweet to us. We told him we would share our food in the to go cartons so not to dirty any dishes and he just insisted we eat on plates so we can really enjoy the meal. He was very attentive and looked so pleased to see how much much we enjoyed the food as if he cooked it himself. Now on to the food....wow just WOW this was the steak of Indian food for me and I never wanna go back to the hamburger. The quality and freshness of the food was impeccable. On the hunt for the perfect Tikka Masala, I decided to give India House a try. Granted I only purchased take out, and I arrived shortly after opening. Place itself seemed friendly enough inside. Dive on the outside, but those are sometimes my favorite kinds of joints Ordered masala in two different levels of heat, hot and extra hot. Both were excellent but extra hot was the perfect amount of heat for me (this girl likes it hot). I do think the spice levels here are lower than some other places. If you usually get a mild, I might try a medium here. Masala was good, compared to other indian places in the valley, this has much more chicken in the sauce. You cannot substitute coconut milk for cream here, & my Chicken had a little charred flavor from the tandoori which was off putting. The gluten free naan unfortunately was charred and didn't have good flavor. So far, Bombay has created the best chain roti for the gluten free and celiacs like me. Rice was ok, but wish there was something else too it. All in all I would return if someone requested it, but I have other places I would choose over this one read more

As soon as you edge toward the front entrance be sure to take a deep breath. Here will be your first impression of India House, and it fills your nostrils with the smell of spices, and you will start to salivate with anticipation. Don't worry, this is in no way the best part of your experience, but it signifies to me that there is so much more that is about to be experienced. I've eaten Indian in a lot of places, and on 3 continents to be exact, and India House is my favourite. Period. Firstly, there's nothing better to pair with your meal than a Squatters IPA. Secondly, vegetable pakoras should always be on the menu. Whenever they are missing, I have a sadness that can only be compared to that of the loss of a child. No really, they're that big of a deal. Try the Samosa Chaat too for something a little different, it's made up of crushed vegetable samosas, and topped with onions, yoghurt, mint, and tamarind sauce. It's great to share, and very flavourful. Thirdly, Lamb. I love lamb, Australians LOVE lamb. Just like it isn't a special occasion without some, it's not an Indian restaurant without it either. The lamb at India House is prepared wonderfully, never tough, always tasty, and when you pair it with the spices used in the Boti Masala it somehow gets even better. Other dishes that belong on my favourites list are the Paneer Masala (we love a good cheese dish, and the masala sauce is a wonderful blend of tomato, peppers, and fresh spices), the Coconut Korma (for those days that require a little bit of sweet with your spice), Saag Aloo (oddly, Saag being spinach, this dish is *surprise* mostly spinach, wonderfully spiced and cooked into a curry sauce - it's also great with paneer, chicken, or the lamb), Chilli Paneer (this sauce is magnificent, and the cheese is so tasty with it), Aloo Gobhi (Potatoes and cauliflower, my second favourite cauliflower dish behind Tandoor's Gobhi Manchurian), and the good ol' Vindaloo is perfectly heated and spiced. Honestly, I have yet to meet an item on India House's menu that I don't like, and they can and will prepare the majority of their dishes vegan if you have that requirement. Wait a minute, how can we talk about an Indian restaurant without the breads? My marker for great naan is the garlic, and India House again doesn't disappoint here. Theirs is the perfect balance of garlic (real garlic), butter, and herbs, and it is hot and with just the right amount of crisp every time. Other notable naan to try are their Keema (alright Amy, enough with the lamb!), Saag, Paneer (Oi with the cheese, too!), and I really enjoy their Aloo. For something again a little different in the bread world, give their mint a try, and for something sweet to perhaps round out the meal, try the peshwari which is stuffed with coconut, cashew, nuts, raisins, and then brushed with honey. Finally, and speaking of the sweet, Kheer (rice pudding) and Gulab Jamun is the perfect end to your already delicious meal. Even if you don't think you can fit any more food in, somehow after eating these two dishes in combination your stomach will feel less full, but just that little bit happier. I am a total wimp when it comes to spicy food so typically am wary at Indian restaurants. But the India House does mild right. The chicken coconut korma is my favorite, and the variety of naan is wonderful. They recently remodeled the inside and updated the serving dishes which are beautiful. It is a great place for a girls night out, or date night, or even a nice family dinner. I have not had anything bad here. So why 4 stars instead of 5? No weekend buffet. read more

I only discovered Indian food a month ago, so you'll have to forgive my enthusiasm. Chicken tikka masala is SO good. It makes me feel warm and happy all over, like hot chocolate during a snowstorm. In case you've never been warned: Indian food is unapologetically spicy. The masala comes mild, medium, hot or extra hot. We ordered medium and it had a nice kick to it (though not a painful one by any means). We also had paneer pakora and butter naan, and both were superb. The pakora comes with green salsa and a tamarind sauce (kind of like sweet and sour) and is everything a deep-fried appetizer should be. The entrees are about $12 (long grain rice is included), and although my love for Indian food gave me the courage and persistence to finish mine, my wife hardly made a dent in hers. I have been here twice for lunch and once for dinner. Lunch buffet is very good with food coming out regularly so as to keep it fresh. The food has a decent amount of spice (for crackers like myself at least) so it's an improvement over many Indian buffets that are Blandsville. I could have handled hotter, but if my wife was there it might have been too much on a few dishes. (If this isn't a good indicator, feel free to buy us dinner so you can relate to our preferences) The only complaints I have for the lunch buffet are: 1) The meat dishes contain very little meat. I was fishing for any chicken in my Tikka Masala. No prob though, the "gravy" is awesome and I certainly didn't starve. 2) The same damn guy was always in front of me taking forever! I have a hunch he was stealing all the above mentioned chicken too. Come on man, its a buffet, scoop and move on. The garlic naan kept coming out of the kitchen so it didn't get soggy sitting there. All in all its by far the best of the 3 or 4 Indian buffet's I've had in SLC. Dinner is as above with the benefit of being able to choose what entree I want. I have been on a Saturday night at 7:30 and had no wait. So let your friends enjoy waiting an hour at Bombay House. Instead drive out to Sandy and get better food, faster. read more

Been a fan of India House from day 1. Normally I'd give a review of dinner, but I recently came in for the lunch buffet. The thing I like most about IH is that the food is always fresh and doesn't sit in the steam pans for too long. Daals, curries and such tend to dry up or go stale if it sits in the pans. They did a great job of making just enough food for the lunch crowd. The naan (bread) happens to the best in the valley! At other places around town, they tend to be crispy and flavorless. I'm guessing their secret is a little bit of milk in the dough to keep it moist and flavorful. Don't quote me on this though. From a spicy standpoint, the food is "ok". It is definitely approachable for any palate. Mine tends to skew towards to the spicier side give my Indian heritage and penchant for all things on fire. The mango lassi is a great way to end your meal (IMHO). It soothes the palate and leaves you with a fresh taste as you leave. Decor is nice. It's come a long way over the years. The bathrooms are clean (usually what separates a 4 star from a five). Also the owner/manager is a very nice guy. Talk to him if you see him. Young Indian guy. Talk to him about the food. India House was a rather late discovery for me. But better late than never. For the food over here turns out to be quite good. The chicken dishes are spicy and flavorful. I would think that among the Indian restaurants in Salt Lake City, their food is up there with Bombay House. However, the service can be a little flaky. They can try to be a little more friendlier. That being said, India House is definitely better than the other Indian restaurants in Sandy and I wouldn't mind driving all the way down south to have dinner over here. read more

I have been EVERY Indian place in this valley. If you ask me this is the best. I love everything I have eaten here from the Vindaloo to the Masala. If you like spicy food like me (I eat sriracha like its going out of style) they will make your food so hot your ears will melt while still tasting like the most amazing Indian food ever.
