If I could give it a ZERO I would!! We got there 17 minutes after they opened and nothing was on the buffet yet and the restaurant was empty and dark. This was a little over a month ago when everything was still open. After 2 minutes when no one came to greet us I started walking down the hall to the kitchen yelling"hello!" An older lady, the owner came out with no apology and told us to sit. We stated that we wanted to see the buffet first as we had never been there and it was very small. She said the food would be out soon; this was now 21 minutes after they should have opened... We asked if we could at least get ice tea and naan while waiting. 6 minutes later that came. When the buffet finally was up we noticed that nothing looked familiar however were so hungry decided to give it a try. The food was minimal variety and just ok. We didn't leave the toilet for two days after!! Tore up both of our stomachs In the meantime another couple had come in and after at least 7 minutes threatened to leave as no one came out of the back so once again I went down the hall yelling for someone to help the elderly couple. Once again the owner appeared with no apology and explained that every item on the menu was individually priced as the lady did not want the buffet. Although they complained about the menu prices she ordered... Every time we wanted a tea we had to take our cups to the back for refills after waiting for her to make each new cup individually! When we went to pay she quoted over $32 for the tiny buffet and 2 teas. I was irate asking why?! She then told us the price of the buffet which wasn't posted anywhere, the price of the teas and naan. We told her that the naan had been on the buffet however she had failed to tell us that when we ordered it separately. Great take out Indian food! This is my go-to spot for Sunday dinner to enjoy in front of the tele. I highly recommend the samosas, the only better ones I've had have been in England. Typically I like a samosa that's innards are less pureed, but India Oven's sure do hit the spot. I always get plenty of naan, chicken tikka masala and their Chana masala. I oddly don't care for their saffron rice, something about their seasoning of it doesn't wow me. And I'd prefer if the chicken bites in the tikka masala were heartier and less tough, but still pretty darn good. Tip: go for the spicy option!! read more

Decent food. Pleasant atmosphere. Indifferent service. This was our second time eating here, but the first was years ago. We were meeting a friend at Cartel and this was a close place to grab dinner. I ordered the saag paneer, along with some flatbread stuffed with cauliflower. My fiance had lamb and our friend had shrimp. We somehow ended up getting 2 orders of rice, which is WAY too much for three people (especially when it costs extra), unless you really like rice. The entrees came out in reasonable time, all seasoned to the correct degree of spiciness (I asked for "spicy" and my companions wanted "sort of spicy"). My bread didn't come out with the food, and it didn't come out and didn't come out. I asked for it twice, and even though I ate really slowly, it didn't show up until I was halfway done. And it was crumbly and not really worth the wait. The spinach was pretty tasty, though. I tried everyone's food and all the entrees were good. When we finished the meal (late), there were no other patrons in the dining room, and also the waitstaff had disappeared. We waited quite some time before someone showed up with the check. read more

I was happy with our visit here and the food was pretty good. We came here late (about 20 minutes to close) and they were very gracious, even letting us stay past closing. I had the lamb tikka masala, and it was fantastic. Just the right amount of spice, excellent flavor, and paired with the rice it was very tasty, and the nan was really good as well. The restaurant itself is in a strip mall, and it was a little on the shabby side. It could definitely use an update, and a change in the seating style. This is seriously the best Indian food in town. I can't believe it's taken me so long to give it a try! The inside of the restaurant is humble, and decorated like the inside of someone's home. But we normally order to-go! The chicken mahkni is absolutely delicious, and so so comforting. The naan is homemade to order and you can taste the difference! Listen People. My Ex is Indian. I know Indian food. Skip the candles, the foo foo and the shoo shoo. It's not even intended to be the most elegant restaurant in the world. But who cares. When it comes to Indian food, I order pretty much three items: Meat Samosas, Lamb Korma, and garlic flatbread. I feel like I'm in heaven when I open up my food containers. Visited yesterday and really enjoyed. Service was prompt and attentive. Food delicious. I thought I would be ordering from the al la carte menu because, as a vegan, I am used to buffets not catering to the likes of me. We explained this to the very attentive and kind owner. She took us over to the buffet and pointed out all the dishes that were vegetarian and did not include dairy. She even made roti specially for me. I've been frequenting India Oven for some time now but after this last experience I won't ever be returning. The waitress was rushed, rude, and dismissive. The food took a surprising amount of time to reach us, an it's quality was up for debate. By that time we also had some additional company at our table because a roach dropped off the wall onto the table. Our table dismissed this disgusting intrusion out of courtesy. The food was worse than I expected. When it reached our table it had obviously already been cooling. No additional requests were noticed, side items were missing, and spicy was mild at best. After we explained that we were simply splitting the check the rude waitress, who snatched all the food off the table before some of us were able to finish literally stood over us like a vulture while we sorted payment, which is unusual because as most people who go to India Oven know you pay at the front, so it was odd to have this waitress hovering over us with an annoyed attitude only to take our payments and walk to the front where we followed her and paid normally anyway. Overall, terrible service in a restaurant with questionable health standards makes for an unfortunate evening. read more

Do not go here! The service was the worst I have ever seen. We ordered tikka masala and beef curry. We ordered the tikka mild and beef curry hot. When they brought out the food, they had mixed up which one was hot and mild (after the waitress came back to confirm which one was hot). The Garlic Naan was a tortilla with garlic powder and not very good. Both of our waters were empty in 10 minutes, yet our waitress never came back to fill them for the entire meal. Instead of waiting on anyone, our waitress sat at a table talking with the other waitress. When it came time to pay, I had a 20% off coupon from the AZ Daily Star App. The waitress could not speak English and handed me the check. When I asked her if she had taken off 20% from the coupon she replied no and looked at me puzzled. She refused to honor a coupon from an app that they advertise on their door. Went here the other night with my wonderful girlfriend. My experience wasn't a great one. I'll begin with the positives - what I ate was pretty good. I ordered the Kahari Chicken - level of spiciness 'medium'. The ingredients were fresh and the spices used tasted freshly ground - the cuts of chicken weren't the best or the whitest, but they were very, very tender. Ok, after that you're left wondering why I gave this place two stars. The Kahari Chicken was listed as one of their specialties... and it just wasn't special in any way, in terms of 'restaurant quality'. It looked dull, had absolutely no heat and it tasted 'homey', like something you'd get if you had a home-stay with an Indian family... except because you weren't Indian they went easy on you with the spices to ensure things weren't to, *ahem*, uncomfortable for you the next morning when you went to bathroom. In short, it had potential to be much better and I feel like the cook may have dulled down their 'flavor profiles' over the years, perhaps to appease the masses. The ambience/atmosphere is nothing special, but there is a CRUCIAL decision that must be made immediately upon entering - especially for all those people going here on 'date-night'. It relates to seating. Well, more specifically the lighting you will be sitting under. The room you enter as you come in - that's the one you want to sit in. If the waitress attempts to walk you and your beautiful companion(s) into the room on the left, do NOT follow - just jump in the seat nearest to you, as if the music just stopped in a game of musical chairs. The lighting in the next room is awful - even the most beautiful person would look like a zombie in there... but hey, if you like people on the pallid, slightly green and sheeny side, heck, go in there. But know that there is a high chance that you will likely never want to see that person ever again after viewing them under that light. The young waitstaff weren't knowledgable about any of the dishes, which was a bit of a problem considering the non-discipt menu. The waitress offered to get the manager to help with the questions and an older Indian lady with a beautiful pot belly came over to try and explain the dishes I had questions about, but she just repeated what the menu said, in a bit of a motherly way. When I asked what made the Kahari Chicken special, she said "it has tomatoes, bell peppers and onion". Realizing I was getting nowhere I just ordered it hoping for the best. After the order was placed, we weren't spoken to again except for the lady who refilled the water - not even a 'see ya' as we left. I got the impression that they don't like questions. If you eat here, order whatever you get HOT. I would even go so far as to say "don't you dare hold back on those spices, make it extra hot!" - give them an open license to make something authentic and delicious. Went at 11:30 for a quick lunch on my lunch break from work. The place opens at 11 - nothing was set out. It took another 15 minutes for any food to be placed out which was all the meat dishes (veg here). When the veg dishes finally got out they tasted horrible. Plus, the carrots and potatoes were not cooked at all - raw potatoes will make people sick. Waste of money never going there again. The food tastes ok, but the customer service is pretty terrible. Called to place an order for pickup. According to the website, the total should have been $43.80. While ordering, I was asked if I wanted rice with my entrees and told that it was not included so I added orders of rice to each entree (the rice tasted like tap water and cigarettes and I didn't eat it anyway). My boyfriend picked up the order, paid them $60.00, and after showing confusion about not receiving change, he was mocked on the way out by the cashier who helped him. Rude! read more

This is our second visit, but tonight's dinner at India Oven was a super bad experience. Never will we ever support this lousy establishment. We ordered three entrees, and we got ONE plate of rice for all three entrees. The garlic naan bread we got had a sprinkle of garlic powder and no butter what so ever, it was as dry as the owner face. The rice was an EXTRA charge as well, and NOT part of the entree. We did not catch this the last time we visited because the bill was hand written. Indian food without rice is like a burger without a patty. Such a dishonest practice. The rice was also COLD and old. Not within the acceptable range of Tucson health department. The lamb in the Korma was gamey and a bit tough, and so overall this place SUCKS . Oh, and the service SUCKS as well. Not a fan. I had been to this place about 8 years ago and received service so rude it was offensive. I was a bit peckish and it was conveniently located for me this evening, so I decided to give it another try. Mistake! I walked into the basically empty dining area expecting at least the perfunctory niceties of a restaurant that hopes to stay in business. I was not greeted, an elderly woman looked at me as if I had kicked her puppy and said "One?". I said yes, and she just waved an arm in the general direction of some tables. I sat down, and the server who apparently was also dismayed in some way by my presence slapped a menu in front of me. I wasn't super hungry, and wasn't in the mood for anything heavy. So I ordered kashmiri rice, keema samosas, and some naan. The server seemed unable to comprehend this order and asked me 4 times if I wanted a curry. I did not. That is why I did not order a curry in the first place. About 2 minutes after she left my table, the elderly woman came up to me insisting that my order was somehow wrong, and that the only way the rice could possibly be enjoyed is with a curry. About that time I was starting to get rather insulted by the whole experience with their staff. I placed my napkin on the table, and asked her to cancel my order. This seemed to finally get it through to her that I knew what the fuck I wanted and wasn't going to be pressured into anything else. I'm too nice sometimes, but I let them go ahead with the order after that unpleasantness. I'd have given only 1 star but the food was actually decent. Not stellar, but adequate. I don't know what they based the presumption upon that I never had Indian cuisine before today, but I found it very off-putting. Not going back for a 3rd try. read more
