If you're going to use the word "quality" in your name, you'd better deliver; they do. If you're a fan of Indian food and going to Fenway for a game, this is a good choice. They're a minute or two walking distance east of the Kenmore stop on the green line, so you avoid a lot of the crowd and the competition for burgers and brews. The online menu is organized differently than the menus we were given, but it's essentially the same items (I think the prices have gone up as well). Except the dish I ordered, Chicken Curry, is now billed as Chicken Tikka Curry on the menu. I ordered it medium, and we wondered if that would be too spicy for me. The waiter said it wouldn't be a problem. He was right, as was the spiciness. It was large pieces of tandoori-cooked boneless chicken with tomatoes and onions and green peppers in the curry sauce. The other order, Saag Paneer, was very intense in its flavor.. We realized that was because it was not mixed or diluted with any type of cream sauce you might get at other Indian restaurants. In both cases, the bowls in which the orders were served were deceptively deep. We also tried the Royal Naan, which contained raisins, honey, and coconut. It was thick and pleasing and sweet, a fine complement to our dinner choices. You could almost call it a dessert naan though. Dinner delivery was fast, service was prompt, water glasses never got below half. I'm looking forward to coming back here with a group and trying some of the group offerings on the menu. read more

India Quality is a treasure that is tucked in the bottom of one of Comm Ave's many brownstones. Despite its small and modest exterior, the inside of restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and spacious. Moreover, the waitstaff are very friendly, and provide quick service. My boyfriend and I ordered two Strongbow Cidars, the Mixed Platter, Pashwari Naan and the Keema Saag (a daily special) to share. I don't know what it is about Indian restaurants, but i'm always unbelievably full by the end of the meal. This place was no different - even though we only ordered one entree between the two of us, I couldn't have eaten another bite! The highlight of the meal was definitely the Pashwari Naan - it had a wonderfully sweet flavour, and with 4 sizable pieces, it was perfect to share between two people! Although I preferred eating it plain, it also tasted really good with a spicy curry. Second best was the Keema Saag, which is my "go-to" at Indian restaurants. We chose a medium spice level, but I think next time I will test my limits with a higher spice level. I like ordering sample platters as appetizers, because they allow you to try a little bit of everything. On the other hand, it's rare for me to enjoy each item equally. In the Mixed Platter, the Chicken Tikki and the Chicken Pakora were my least favourite because I found them a bit dry. However, the Vegetable Pakora, Samosa, and Saag Tikki were fabulous - each was fresh, and had a very unique and vibrant flavour. Not what I was expecting with the baingan bharta (eggplant) dish. It was more of a purée than chunks of eggplant like i was expecting. I ordered garlic naan and it came burnt. You can't even taste the flavor. Not worth $30 for takeout. I don't know why all the reviews says it's amazing. This was very misleading as it was why I ordered food- glowing reviews. This restaurant is very clean, welcoming, and comfortable. My wife ordered a soup that was not to her liking, and our server exchanged it for a different soup with no problem, and he did not charge us for the second cup of soup. For her second cup of soup, she got the coconut soup which was excellent. She originally ordered the lentil soup which was just too spicy. The vegetable pakoras are outstanding, and so is the spinach roti (bread). I had the lamb curry for dinner, which came with basmati rice. I ordered the dish "mild", but it was still quite spicy for my taste. However, I ate it all because it was delicious! My favorite Indian place in town, hands down. And probably the best lunch special in town as well! (Salad + Entree + tea/coffee for ~$10). But the best part about this restaurant is the quality (or rather flavor) of food. This is the Indian restaurant I turned to when I was a student. It was recommended to me by my former two Indian floormates from New Jersey, and they know good Indian food. They have been raving to me that they have amazing food. And they seem to be right. Every time I visit this place, I have never been disappointed by the good quality food and I think "India Quality" is a fitting name for this restaurant. One decent feature when you come to eat here is that you can set your spices, mild, medium or hot. I've eaten the Chicken Tikka Masala twice (even though it is supposedly a dish invented by Indians living in the UK, and not really from India) and it was pretty good. The creamy sauce tasted good with the basmati rice that comes with it, and the chicken itself was decent. Another dish that I have enjoyed eating was the Chicken Jalfrezi, which is this white meat chicken doused in some sort of curry sauce, and has a variety of vegetables such as peppers, onions and broccoli. The last time I ate it, the sauce gave the vegetables a great spice to them, and the chicken also tasted so good with the rice. Portions overall are really good, even though the food is a tiny bit pricey to my standards. I think you can find the best value by going here for lunch. You can get the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Jalfrezi for $5 cheaper. The two dishes I mentioned are $12.95 for dinner. Another dish that I also ate was the Tandoori Chicken, (one of the first Indian dishes that I discovered), and it was pretty good. It comes fresh out of the kitchen, sizzling along with warm naan bread. The chicken itself needed a little improvement (I thought the meat was a little dry) and the dish is big enough to feed two people, or enough to feed one person and take home some leftovers for a lunch. The spices made it very flavorful but it is not spicy and that made up for the minor dryness in the chicken. I ate a little bit of the dish myself since I was hungry, then asked for them to pack it in the box so I can take it home. As for the naan bread, it was fresh, soft and chewy. This will probably be the restaurant I will continue to turn to for some good quality and decent Indian food and you'll definitely get better prices if you come for lunch. This is a place I've gone to with people who only had indian food a few times, and they loved it. I've also gone with a few people who literally grew up in India - and they go here all the time. I still love India Quality though - the decor is very warm and cozy, the food is fantastic and the service is great. They are always very friendly and accommodating. I've gotten the appetizer platter, 2 meals and naan for me & 2 friends and we were STUFFED. We usually do our staple of samosas, chicken tikka (so great) and garlic naan and it's plenty. Very good Indian food that gets a 4-star rating on a national scale. We ordered a mushroom curry, a vegetable curry, a few of the bread options and some Indian beers. All were very good and would get B+ grades. We asked for medium spice and got mild+ or medium-. I might ask for spicy next time in to see what that was like. Our party looked like one that may not have liked it too, too spicy, ...so I am sure they were erring on the side of caution. The service at India Quality was very attentive. The wait staff knew the menu very well. The restaurant is bigger then you would think looking at it from the outside. It was well decorated but maybe a tad dated. I really wanted to like this place after reading so many stellar reviews. We started off with the Behel-Puri whose description included the phrase "puffed rice crisp." Unfortunately it was not at all what we envisioned, which was something along the lines of a filled puff pastry. Served cold, it turned out to be a mound of rice krispy-like grains mixed with chickpeas, onions, and tomatoes. I appreciated the juicy tomato chunks, but the whole combination just didn't work for my palate. The lamb masala was bathed in a rich, creamy tomato sauce, but I wished the meat was more tender and that it actually came with more sauce for the stand-out of the night: the garlic naan. Piping hot, the bread's garlic flavor really shone through, unlike my friend's lamb curry dish which unfortunately tasted bland. The portion sizes were decent and service was attentive. The restroom was fairly clean as well. But given all the hype, I expected the food to live up to if not exceed its name. I've heard about this place from multiple people as one of the best Indian restaurants in Boston. As a die-hard lover of the Curry Leaf back in my hometown, I wondered if it would live up to my expectations (or standards). My friend and I went here on Valentine's Day for their lunch special (which they have every day). We decided to forgo their famous dishes (Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer) and try the Lamb Vindaloo and FIsh Coconut Korma Curry instead. We also ordered the Pashwari and Garlic Nans. The meal came with a free appetizer of Pappadum, which is a salty thin cracker-type food. There were also fresh cucumbers and tomatoes to go with it. Our food came pretty quickly. The bowls look deceivingly small - we ate a lot and still had leftovers. Although we had requested the food to be hot (the waiter gave us surprised looks, as in "oh you don't know what you're getting into"), I didn't think it was spicy at all. But then, I also have a very high tolerance for spiciness, so there's that. Food: Lamb Vindaloo: I preferred this over the Fish Curry. The lamb was tender and I liked the tomato-based sauce. It was simple yet flavorful and it definitely got spicier towards the end. Fish Coconut Korma Curry: It didn't taste too much like coconut, which was good, but the coconut milk made it creamy but not overtly so. It was sweeter than I'd like and the fish wasn't as tender as I'd prefer, but it was still a solid curry. Basmati rice: I've never been a huge fan of this (I prefer eating curry with Nan instead) but this was standard and free and came with a huge amount, so no complaints there. Garlic Nan: I've had better Garlic Nan elsewhere, and I usually prefer my Nan to have more roasted garlic as opposed to raw garlic. It was still good though, and tasted wonderful reheated the next day. Pashwari Nan: I thought this was the Royal Nan, so I expected it to come with raisins. It didn't, but oh well. It's filled with shredded coconut and honey, and is sweet without being too sweet. It paired well with the Masala Chai at the end. The texture of both the Nans were good - fluffy but with a chew. Chai: Good Indian Chai (and for free with the special). It's not sweet, so add your own sugar if you prefer. I had mine without sugar and just enjoyed the spices. Service: They were super attentive with the water. They weren't exceedingly friendly (it was more of a hands-off approach), but I have no complaints there. Price: The meal came out to about $15 per person after tip. The main dishes themselves were less than $9 and the Nan were $3.50 each. That's a lot of food for a pretty decent price. Would I return? Yes, to try their Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer. I figure you can't judge a restaurant until you try their best dishes anyway. read more

This is my favorite Indian food in Boston. I definitely cannot speak to authenticity as that is not my background, but all I can say is that I happily spend $50+ dollars here for a meal. It's not the cheapest (a couple dishes plus naan will add up $$$) but that being said, I haven't been able to find or make Tikka masala or saag paneer that I like as much as theirs. I find their ingredients to be fresh, portions to be fair, and flavors excellent. It's always a treat to order out from here, and my family and I always look forward to treating ourselves to India Quality. Really bummed about this place with all the positive reviews ive read. We ordered delivery one night and not only did they show up 45 min past the delivery time, but when the food arrived it was cold and they replaced something we ordered with something we didnt. I called about every 10 minutes after it was already 15 min late, and kept being told "it was almost there, just a few minutes more". I even asked to cancel and they said no, its already almost there. When i called due to the incorrect order, i was told i was gonna get 10% off and then checking the final receipt i was given 8%. A whopping $3. It should have been compd. Why should i have to pay for food that is literally, 45 mins late, cold, and not even what i ordered. These morons delivered the food 30 minutes early. And then to top it off, they didn't even bring me silverware. I'm in a hotel room and ordered take out. Isn't silverware standard? By far the worst experience I have had with an Indian restaurant! The food was bland, the spices were completely off, and most of the meal tasted like it had been sitting out all day and reheated. The pros: the staff was attentive. The mango lassi wasn't terrible. The basmati rice was okay. The cons: The appetizer sampler platter was extremely dry and didn't taste like it was spiced with anything. The bhindi was undercooked and lacked any flavor. The goat biryani was terrible, and again, lacked flavor and kick. The tandoori chicken was by far, the worst part of the meal. It tasted liked the chicken was boiled and then covered in red food coloring. The naan was edible. I would be amazed if they actually have a tandoor oven in the kitchen since nothing tasted like it would have been cooked at the high temperature needed to make the dish correctly. Lastly, for some strange reason, everything had green bell peppers in it (the tandoori chicken, the biryani, the bhindi), which overwhelmed any potential flavor the dishes would have had. We told the staff how we felt and they literally told us that people don't complain so why would they change the menu. Which made me think that the staff (which were all Indian) knew the food wasn't good but still kept the dishes the same. They offered to bring us out their most popular dish which was a paneer item, but it didn't impress me. Needless to say we didn't take the leftovers. I lived in Boston many years ago and remember the food being much, much better. Not sure what has happened in the last 7 years but I will not be returning. read more

I was so excited to try a new place after moving here but i was let down massively. To start with there was no hello when walked in a man simply led us to our to a table and gave us water. Then once we were served i realized my rice was literally room temperature. Because the rice was colder it made it hard. Also throughout eating no one checked in on us or the food quality. Instead I was subjected to stares from multiple workers. Even the workers in the kitchen glared at us through the window instead of making quality food. I ate my frankly bland food and watched as workers continued to check in on other patrons and worry about mobile orders. This place had the potential to be so great and I was disappointed. While living in Brookline and then Back Bay til just recently, we often got our Indian fix from either Punjab Palace or India Quality... Both of which I think are owned by the same person, and are reasonably priced and very good! However, since moving to Assembly Row in July, we've been trying out new places closer to us with solid Yelp reviews, and frankly, it's been pretty hit or miss. Therefore, we decided to deal with all the traffic and drive to Kenmore to pick up from India Quality last night, but we weren't real impressed with our food this time. Everything was well packaged and piping hot, even after bringing it home, but the lamb in our Royal Korma was super tough and the sauce itself honestly seemed off... It was much more watery than usual (with thicker, clumpier spots on the actual lamb), and not at all spiced Hot... It was more like Medium at best! The Vegetable Appetizer Platter ($10) was large and worth the money though, and the Aloo Paratha ($6) was also big but not like always... The bread appeared thinner and kept falling apart, but still tasted good with the yogurt dip. We did call the restaurant right away, and I must say that the problem was handled immediately and respectfully... They made no excuses and apologized repeatedly, and refunded us for the entree... I never mentioned the issue with the bread because I already felt bad complaining about the chewy lamb. Anyway, we have to wonder if it was just an off day for India Quality, but we do appreciate how they dealt with it and will probably give them another chance. Really 3.5 stars. read more

Matar panner: unexpected cream too heavy and very similar taste with the next dish 3. Malai kofta: hard koftas not soft. Either one of 2 or 3 also had a lot of pieces of cashew instead of cashew paste in the gravy. Haven't had such food before.. I know my food and wasn't expecting what I got. Their chicken tikka masala is delicious. I normally only get medium spice but I decided to try the spicy one time and it was great. Not too spicy but definitely a nice kick to it. The rice was colorful, something I've never seen but it was fragrant and had the likes in texture/fragrance as Thai jasmine rice. Medium spicy as ordered. You have 3 levels of spicy to pick for mostly everything, mild (which is more like medium), medium (which is more like hot), hot (which is more like..nightmare). The top two for me are definitely the Chicken Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chicken Curry reminds me of the one I make. Just be sure to ask for medium and not mild. read more

I made a delivery purchase on a Saturday night. Given that my hotel did not have plates and or utensils, I requested these items to the person who took my order. I even paid a generous tip for the delivery. When the food arrived, the delivery driver was very anxious to hand me the food and drove off quickly once he handed me the order. The food: it's okay. Their lamb is good, but their goat is nothing special. Their naan portion size is small. 1 order of naan gives you 1 single piece. Normally, other restaurants will give you multiple naan. If u like spicy food, I think their spicy selection is worth it. Service: VERY POOR.. In my delivery request, I requested forks, napkins, knife and plates... NONE of these items were given.. SERIOUSLY...wow.. Terrible. Even after giving a generous tip in my order, they did not provide me with the essentials to consume my meal.
