3.5 stars, but I'll round up since the man working was nice! Decent shop to grab some Indian sweets and household grocery, spices, etc. BE WARNED: The staff do not wear masks here. Ironically, they do sell N95 masks here though. The store was pretty messy and they even keep some of their vegetable boxes on the floor. The glass displays for the prepared food were a bit cloudy and not super clear. Nothing inside was labeled either, so I had to awkwardly point at the sweets that I wanted in the display. I asked for 5 rasgulla, 2 carrot burfi, and 2 samosas. The man working was super sweet and gave us 6 rasgulla, 3 carrot burfi, and 2 samosas. With a couple freebies, our total was $8. What a great price! The rasgulla was AMAZING! The perfect sweetness and I loved the taste of the rosewater. The carrot burfi had a pretty strong carrot flavor that paired very well with the almonds on top. The sweets were so delicious. The samosas seemed to be sitting there for a while at the display, but I still ordered two. The man gave us two sauces and warmed up the samosas in the microwave. They were not super crispy in texture, but the flavor was good.

Samosas from here are pretty good. They are loaded with potatoes, herbs, and spices. It'll be a lot better if it's cooked to order so it's crispy and hot. They come with mint sauce and tamarind sauce. Mint sauce was good but could be more spicy and the tamarind sauce was way way too sweet.

    $7.99 #2 Combo

This place and the #2 combo singlehandedly got me through college. It has been $7.99 for the past THREE YEARS! They literally resist inflation more than any business I have ever been to and their quality has gotten BETTER over time. Do yourself a favor and try the paneer. Also the owner is so nice! This is my favorite restaurant in Riverside! (P.S. the picture is of the sheer amount of food they give you for $7.99!!!)

Great little Indian market for food and groceries! Just across the street from UCR, perfect for students on a budget. Always come here for the Thalis, never disappoints. My go-to is the #2 with okra and paneer masala.

Clean dining and shopping area and the shop offered good fresh cooked Masala milk tea!

Wow! The food was amazing and only $2.99! What!? I came away full and happy. The menu is vegetarian, so if you are craving some meat, this is not the place for you. Although it is vegetarian, it is quite hearty and I did not find myself missing the meat at all (I love eating chicken... sorry). I had the Thali Special and was happy to see the variety and portions. I also got a Mango Lassi that was the best I have had. I am pretty sure that it had real mango blended in with it and not just some syrup. Delicious. The Indian Grocery is also quite amazing and has anything you would ever need to cook some delicious Indian at home.

Delicious and cheap! Thali special, chana batura and masala dosa are favorite orders when I come here, which is at least 3-5 times a month.

This is top notch. Mind you this is northern Indian and not to be compared with southern I found it since it was close to the military base and I so glad I tried it. To start the home made lentil soup was hearty and lentils had excellent texture so you can tell it fresh and yet it was complimentary. I had the bone in goat briyani which was succulent, huge portions and paired with their Raita it was perfectly balanced . Compared to the classic Hyderabadi style this has less spices and overall ingredients but it's more savory which is common with most northern style Indian food. Just a gem of place

Cost is great if you are going for the lunch buffet, but the food was pretty much a letdown when you consider Curry & Kebab is about 15 min away and exponentially better while the restaurant that closed down in University Village (Masala Mischief) had way better and culturally accurate flavors. The flavors here could barely be considered Indian where UCR's dorm food made by non-Indians had more accurate seasoning than here during their lunch buffet. Everything was watered down, cooked until super dry, and unflavorful. I wouldn't be surprised if you told me it was made by an American cook who thought Indian spices were too spicy and got rid of everything. In addition, things that are supposed to be dairy based and runs and tastes like water is very disappointing. All-in-all, the service was ok (food was replenished and we got our naan, but not exactly checking on people all that much) , cost vs filling is fine, but I honestly wouldn't even eat it even if offered for free. The room is on the dark side but at least somewhat comfortable. I'll give it a 2 star because these people seem to be ok people and the plates and whatnot were clean (as I've seen worse elsewhere). Also the naan wasn't bad (I still like elsewhere) but the naan was definitely better than barely edible.

The main dining room is open seating. On the left side is their banquet room for special events and private parties. A nice space to hold an intimate gathering. We dug right into their lunch buffet priced at $16.95. They also have a lunch special for $12.95. Buffet had veggie egg rolls and fritters, fish, tandoori chicken, tikka masala chicken or veggie, lentils, potato, rice, chic pea salad, mustard greens, salad station with lettuce, tomato and red onions, with mint and tamarind sauces, oranges and rice pudding. A nice spread of traditional dishes and sides. Fresh garlic nan was brought out in a basket for the table. Not sure if this is refillable we were too full to ask for another. Flavors were tasty and service was great. Overall a cute little spot among the surrounding shops. Parking is plentiful but area can be a little sketchy.

After reading the reviews, I now see that the ownership has changed. Makes sense for the change in atmosphere and quality. The samosas used to be packed with stuffing and flavorful. Now the samosas I got recently are cold and smaller. The crust also seems to be different? It was almost burnt tasting. The icing on the cake (and the reason for my review) is the metal I found in my rice. I thought it was a spice at first but I'm glad I checked it before I ate it. Looks like part of the metal scrubber used to clean dishes. When I called them to let them know, the lady who answered didn't even try to make it right or offer a refund or replacement. She was nice and apologized but my meal was kind of ruined by the piece of metal so it would've been nice to at least gotten the option to replace it. Not sure if I will be coming back. Sad to see the old owners go. The old lady was always so friendly and welcoming.

There's a mural of Gandhi and Frida Kalo. It's not Mexican fusion though but I'm not complaining. The colors and arrangement really elevated the place. There was only one other group during our visit and there was plenty of parking up front. Rice was plain but all the flavor wad in the chicken and garlic naan. My husband said it was the best he's ever had. The bread was prefecture baked and the flavor amazing. The garlic and cilantro really popped. I'm interested in trying their byrriani next. We'll definitely be back. Prices weren't too bad either. $16 on antree $4 naan + tip.

First time trying it and would order it again. Saag with Tofu: 9/10 - Ordered medium spicy and it was perfect for me, but my son who loves spicy foods said it wasn't spicy at all, lol. Otherwise, it was good. Not the best I've had but definitely worthy of a repeat order. Garlic Naan: 5/10 - It was paper thin, but had a lot of garlic and cilantro, which I appreciated. Just the bread was so thin that it was too crispy, not soft. I would NOT order this again. Papadum: 6/10 - Requested to add chaat masala powder and they obliged. The papadum was good, flavor-wise, but portions were inedible because they weren't fully cooked and still had hard portions, kind of like stale tortilla chips. I would order again, but only in-person, and check my order before leaving. Will I be back? Probably not, there are better Indian restaurants nearby.
