Indian Clay Pot is a favorite Indian restaurant in the North Center neighborhood. My three favorite dishes are the Garlic Naan, the Clay Pot Lamb, and Chicken Korma. The Clay Pot lamb was cooked in a clay pot with potato, ginger, garlic, onion, green chili, with other herbs and spices. The dish had different layers of flavor, good spice level, and the lamb was tender. I'm not usually big on lamb but when it's layered with a variety of flavor and spices, I'm in! The Chicken Korma is cooked with onion based sauce, cashews, cream, and herbs. The appetizer dish I wasn't too fond of was the Crispy Onion Pakora. It was a bit on the salty side for my taste and I do not recommend ordering as a takeout since it got soggy by the time we got home and able to eat it. Our last dine-in experience may have been an off night because the service wasn't the best. The service was slow and noticed that our server was taking other customers' orders who arrived after us and we were ignored. Regardless, I'm hoping this was an off night and I still maintain the four star rating due to the deliciousness of the food. read more

Amazing! Went here with friend and I ordered the naan and lamb biryani which were exceptional. My biryani was flavored so well--the rice super fluffy, lamb was incredibly tender and the flavors were EVERYTHING!!!!! Now the star of the night was the palak paneer! Hunny, that thang was EVERYTHING do you hear me?! I've never had it before but it blew my socks off! Discovered this spot during the pandemic, when they only did takeout or delivery, and they have never done me wrong with my Chicken Saag and Chicken Biryani order. The Chicken Saag was perfectly garlicky and toasty, with the perfect amount of seasoning and consistency, while the biryani carried the delicious aroma and deep flavor of the caramelized onions. An important public service announcement here-- this rating is an average of four stars for the food and zero stars for how they're handling the Covid situation. Last night was the second of two takeout trips I've made to Indian Clay Pot. The first was early in the pandemic. I didn't see a single person who worked there wearing a mask, definitely neither the woman who took my payment at the counter nor the one who handed me (yes, there was nothing contactless about it) my bag of food. Last night was a tad better but still completely unacceptable. The woman at the counter wasn't wearing a mask at first but did put one on over the course of the ten minutes I was waiting on my order. The main woman who was filling orders had a mask around her neck but never once pulled it up over her face in spite of the collective stink eye she received by the few of us were socially distanced while waiting. You can easily see inside the kitchen from where you pay for your order, and the main guy who was passing food through the window wasn't wearing a mask, nor was another guy who seemed like one of the main cooks. Sure, there were a couple in the kitchen who were wearing masks, but where's the manager to enforce the simple rules we're all trying to rally around during this really critical time. Sorry, Clay Pot , I enjoy your food but your lazy approach to today's simple guidelines is enough of a health hazard that I'm posting a Yelp review for the first time in several years. For the sake of your business and the health of your own staff and your neighbors who support it, I truly hope you get your act together soon. read more

We were a bit skeptical because of the negative reviews about the quality of food but it was better than expected! We ordered vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani, garlic naan, and mango lassi. The samosas were a bit too seasoned but still good & the lassi can be too sweet. Don't be fooled by the humble exterior two doors down from Irving Park Brown Line. My wife and I were welcomed kindly to a nice table in the surprisingly large seating area. The decor is comfortable and the Indian pop music more than once had me into the scene. Order a dosa! It's a great appetizer with big, rolled up, crispy crepe with savory filling. Four menu options. We got the Masala Dosa. The sambar coconut sauce and tomato chutney are perfect compliments and are very different from each other. Lamb biriyani was what really convinced me this was our new spot. All of the flavors were spot on, and the rice just right. Again more wonderful condiments. Masala Chai was superb! The staff went above and beyond. Ordered take out on a Friday night. It was ready faster than predicted so that was a bonus. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and navaratan korma. The korma was pretty good. Nice flavor and a good amount of veggies. The naan was also pretty good. The rice was very sticky and I'm not convinced it was basmati rice, it looked and tasted just like white short grain rice. The chicken tikka masala was incredibly bland and tasted mostly like a can of tomato sauce with chunks of chicken. I will say that I was pleased with the size of the pieces of chicken and the quantity of chicken in the dish. Overall not my favorite, but I won't write it off completely. read more

I will admit that I am not the expert on Indian food, but this place puts forward some tasty food! This is certainly a bit of a hidden find! I came here with a larger group (12) with a reservation. The place is a little tight, but actually much larger than I expected. They say that they have a patio which would probably be awesome in the summer or early fall! They are also a BYOB that had wine glasses on hand and did NOT charge us a corkage free (yeah!!!) Each person at my table ordered a dish and we passed them around to taste everything. This was a smart way of doing it because we all had a large dish in front of all of us to make our "art" of food and sauces. We also got naan and regular rice. I got Lamb Vindaloo which was awesome! Exactly want I wanted with the meat and potatoes. I also liked that it was spicy, but not SUPER spicy. I enjoy a good pepper, but sometimes the heat can kill the taste. Not a problem here. The butter chicken was great too which is a good fallback. I was very impressed with the Clay Pot Chicken. It was really flavorful and I think I would get that next time with the Vindaloo. That brings me to the one drawback I had....The dishes were all great, but they were kind of small for the price. The naan and rice were also a bit smaller for what you paid for. You get four naan and the rice could feed roughly 1 to 1.5 people. The only other drawback I had was that the service was a little lacking. True, we were a large group and the restaurant was hopping when we were there, but the servers were pretty non existent and we didn't really get a lot of service for what we paid for. Oh well, I mean, if that is the worst of the night, we are having a good night. I will return to this place for sure! I really enjoyed the food here! To me, food is the most important aspect of any restaurant, so this place deserves a 5/5 on its food's taste and quality alone. The restaurant was quiet on a Sunday evening. It offers a quaint dining area in the back, but still has enough room to accommodate larger groups. The service was also efficient and friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner. All of the dishes were awesome. I highly recommend the samosas and butter chicken with a side of basmati rice. The butter chicken's sauce was savory, spicy, and just bursting with flavor; it also made a great topping for the naan bread and rice. This place took my husband and I from enjoying Indian food (which we had just recently started trying) to LOVING it, and ordering from here almost every weekend. The staff are always very friendly and efficient, and just walking in the door will make your mouth water from the aroma. Almost everything we've tried here has been super delicious, and lucky for us there are still so many dishes to try! Absolute favorites: onion pakora, onion naan, chicken tikka masala, lamb masala and gongura, and that damn date tamarind chutney that I could drink!! (I had to stop myself from adding basically every other dish we've tried...) For such delicious dishes and generous portions (which usually come with rice), the value here is great. I'm glad we don't live closer because we would probably eat here every day. 10/10 would recommend! read more

After a busy day helping my daughter pack to move house, she suggested Indian Clay Pot for dinner. It was a good choice. She'd enjoyed the Malai Kofta in the past, so that's what I ordered. It features vegetarian dumplings made from an appealing combination of cheese, cashews, raisins and almonds simmered in a creamy onion sauce and served on rice. She opted for the mushroom masala, and while I only had a spoonful, it's rich, hearty taste made it something I want to try again. This place is consistently good. My favorites are the butter chicken and lamb curry -- the chunks of meat are succulent and quality -- no bones, tendons or anything like that. This place is a gem, one that invokes a smile while sipping chai after a delicious meal. I don't think we've reason to go to Devon (as much) anymore. It's a cute little place that goes above and beyond in the details. As an affordable Indian restaurant that bothers to add garnishes and use modern cutlery, they boast a warm ambience with a good selection of Bollywood music playing. The food itself is plenty fresh and clean with some interesting options such as a sweet, coconut infused clay pot chicken. The Gobi Manchurian was great, albeit a tad spicy. The chai was rich and creamy although they can go a bit easier with the ginger. This is definitely a place worth visiting regularly. (Also the Turkish restaurant restaurant next door is great too). Let this be a lesson to you tacky Devon restaurants: you can have good food AND service in a clean, simple environment. read more

This is a review for delivery. It really should be 2.5 stars but I'll leave it at 3. The main driver of the lower review is that it took over 1.5 hours to receive our order. The restaurant originally quoted 50 minutes. It was clear our order had been in the car for a really, really long time. The naan and dosa were pretty soggy. The food was pretty tasty. Went here based on a friend's recommendation and glad we did. The food is just amazing! We live close to Devon so it's our go-to area when we want Indian food. In this one visit, it has become our favorite by far. The food it just exquisitely prepared from scratch. Best green chutney I've ever had! We humbly asked if we can have some to go. Lol. My wife and I found this restaurant on Yelp when we moved back into the area about a year ago. We had been disappointed that we were so much further away from our favorite Indian restaurant at the time (the spice room) and were hoping to find a new one that was good enough that we didn't have to go across town every time we wanted Indian. We tried Curry point, but I wasn't a fan - I like spicy curries, I order my vindaloos spicy, etc, but theirs was just all front of the mouth kick your teeth in spicy, with no actual good flavor. At any rate, we tried Clay pot, hoping to find something passable, and were thrilled to find that we liked it at least as much as our previous favorite. We have fine back at least once a month, and have taken my wife's family a few times as well. We haven't had a dish that we didn't like yet. Their vindaloo is properly spicy, but it's a balanced while mouth kind of spicy so you actually get really good flavor. The chilli chicken is very good. I was hesitant to try the Gongura lamb, but did on the waitress's recommendation and it was very good. The biryani is one of my favorite biryanis that I've had if not my favorite, my wife usually gets lamb korma but really liked the Clay pot lamb which is a bit less cream than a korma. The pakoras (onion and chicken) are great, and my wife (who draws her judgements about how good an Indian restaurant is by their samosas) says these are her favorite. We've also ordered delivery a number of times and it's always on time or early. They have sent the wrong dish once or twice but it's never been an issue to get it fixed or refunded. read more
