This is one of our favorite places and we have been there 3X's in the last 8 weeks. The food and drink is good and the service is usually very good. But, and there's always a but, our last visit was very disappointing. The food & drink was good as always, but we didn't care for our server Ande. Initially, here attitude rubbed us the wrong way. Then, it was her lack of attention and attention to detail. We had to constantly remind her that we asked for this & that. Our drink, what we ordered, silverware, napkin, etc... etc. it seems like her mind was somewhere else. She pushed me over the end when we ordered dessert and she didn't pick up our dirty dishes(see photos). This is a pet peeve of mine and I WILL write you up every-time! The restaurant was also very noisy the last time we visited too! You could not have a conversation or hear yourself think! My boyfriend and I came here twice in one day (!!) while riding the Virginia Capital Trail. The location is perfect - right off the trail with plenty of safe/secure bike racks in the front yard. Our first visit was for lunch - I had the Farmhouse CAB & my boyfriend had the shrimp -- both delicious. The service was beyond our expectations. It was fast & extremely friendly. Our waitress, Linda, was sweet & offered awesome recommendations (& didn't steer us wrong!). We returned for dinner (we stayed nearby) because of our great experience and had the salmon & ribeye -- again, both delicious. We were lucky enough to have Linda again, who took amazing care of us for the second time in one day. There was (really great!) live music to close out the evening. If you're on the trail, or in the area, highly recommend stopping by for a drink or snack. This place is a true treasure in Charles City! read more

Having heard great reviews of this place, I made reservations for my wife 55th birthday and invited another younger couple whom just had their first born child to join us to help celebrate her birthday and have an evening out with the baby. The farmhouse location out in the country and the screened-in porch seating was perfect. The fried Brussels sprouts and wings we ordered for appetizers were delicious. Of the four entrees; Steak Fritte, Charles City Burger, Fried Fish and Fried Chicken, three were cooked to perfection (The Charles City burger was absolutely Devine). Unfortunately, the fried chicken was overcooked and extremely dry. The server was very apologetic, and even though we said it was unnecessary, she informed the kitchen staff and manager. The understanding Manager spoke to us and agreed that the meal was unsatisfactory. He discounted the fried chicken meal and treated the table to dessert of Bourbon Glazed Bread Pudding topped with cream and a side of peach ice cream. The entire staff was wonderful went out of their way to ensure that my wife's birthday was a happy one. Definitely recommend and we will be back. read more

We decided to travel here after church on Sunday it was a little bit of a drive although very scenic! We used to go here years ago and were glad to see that it was reopened! Great location and I'm sure it will be even better in the spring for a nice drive and to stop in and maybe have a beverage! The disappointing part was the food was just average and the noise level was high not a place to go for a quiet brunch‍ Once the weather breaks and it's warmer maybe the porch would be an option and not so noisy It would be great if they could do more of a farm to table considering there are many farms in the area read more

We chose Indian Fields Tavern because we were there about 30 years ago and wanted to include lunch there as part of our celebration. Called ahead and made reservations and was told our table would be ready on the porch. When we got there was told someone did not set up, so we had a table on the patio - not a problem. Told waitress that we were celebrating. I ordered the Tavern burger "pink". When it finally came it was well done, and looked like a hockey puck on a large bun, very dry, no taste. Waitress offered to make another but we didn't want to wait. My wife got the country cubano (ham & pulled pork). It was very greasy and not good at all. Wish I would have asked for the manager - our mistake. Also this is not the Indian Fields Tavern from years ago since it does not offer any "colonial" food. Very disappointing! read more

This is a beautiful restaurant. We sat in the garden on a lovely patio, and enjoyed the live music. The service was fast and friendly and the outdoor setting was just delightful. Great food too! This was a very nice find. We met some friends for dinner and as you walk in there is seating to your left and they have a bar as well where you can watch sports. We were warmly greeted by what we later found out is one of the owners. They have bottled beer, no draft beer, but still had a half decent selection. I have a food allergy and our waitress was extremely accommodating. I had the salmon and it was very good. We had an appetizer before then and it was excellent. The ambiance is very inviting and everyone was very friendly. They have seating outside for when it is warmer out. We plan on coming back. read more

Found this place on the way south from Williamsburg in a Sunday afternoon when many things were closed. It's a pretty, old farm house, nothing too special from the outside. Friendly staff invited us in, brought hot tea service, and advised on our order choices. Everything we had was delicious! Good steak frites, and their delicious Charles River Burger. Tasty fries! And the bread pudding. I will dream about this brad pudding. I heard the lemon chess pie was delicious also. I'll make a point of returning on my next trip to Williamsburg! read more

This is our second visit, and the experience is 100% better than the first time. They've added some sound dampening to the ceiling, so it's easy to hear conversations. The menu has changed a little, and there are some simple appetizers, like fresh vegetables with their homemade buttermilk dressing, so no matter how busy the kitchen is, there's a quick appetizer on the table. That being said, the pimiento cheese is excellent, and a nice addition to any meal. The falafel burger is also a standout, nicely seasoned. The pickled onions are perfect. The chopped wedge salad is also great, either shared as an appetizer, or with added protein as a satisfying meal. The added spiced nuts are delightful. I wish the blue cheese was more flavorful, but that's the only thing I'd change. Service is always friendly and efficient. If you're looking to sit outside-ish, the screened in porch is comfortable and protected from the elements. This restaurant is a bit out of the way, but splits the difference between Richmond and Williamsburg, and is absolutely worth the drive. read more

This is by far the best place for GREAT food and GREAT Custer service. Linda was our server and was hands down so polite and informative! The food we had was full of flavor. We had started with The fried pickles. We found out they are made in house by their two cooks that have quite history with food. We decided to try the wings and on to a Tavern burger and a Charles City burger. Both had so much flavor and the sides we got amazing. The fries are something I'm definitely going back for along with everything else. Potato salad was light and not over done with mayo. Even tho we were stuffed we decided to get the Bread pudding. I'm truly glad we did. As we sat their enjoying our food. We got to see how everyone was so happy with their food and the place filled up. It to me is worth the drive up a country road. This restaurant was absolutely amazing. I went there with my parents after going to one of the wineries in the area. I had the Apple Arugula salad and the granola, and both were absolutely amazing. The salad had fresh green lettuce, candied walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, et al. The granola was homemade, it had a good size portion of yogurt in the center and it was drizzled with honey. The ambience was amazing, it is in an old house along the highway. We had a chance to meet the new owner of the restaurant, who is quite entertaining and welcoming. read more

Awesome place for brunch. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it had a smorgasbord of accessories! Lemon, lime, olive, pepperocini and a piece of delicious bacon. It was a wonderful brunch cocktail. Hubs and I split a burger and fries since portions are large and we did not have a big appetite. Burger was very flavorful! After our dessert of decadent bread pudding with homemade vanilla ice cream, we waddled out of the restaurant fat and happy! Fabulous wait staff, great food, lovely farmhouse setting. Reservations recommended since it stayed full the entire time we were there.
