Happy to have this resource in area. There is something for everyone... from frozen naan and other popular Indian foods and wide selection of prepared condiments in jars to instantly recreate restaurant experience anytime at home (e.g. pickled mango) to spices, flours, legumes that are unique to Indian cuisine for those able/inclined to prepare on own. Have not tried yet, but limited selection of hot prepared Indian food is also available. One disconcerting drawback is that many shelved items do not indicate their price. read more

OK, a few observations after coming here every two weeks or so for the past year: We still very much appreciate this store as a resource for many ingredients that are harder to find in these parts, but... just a few areas of potential improvement: - Vegetables and herbs sold vary wildly in quality. There are times when produce on offer is rotten or near rotten (or in the case of curry leaves, completely dried out). It would be nice if the store could rotate out clearly expired stock. On the other hand, if you catch them right after a fresh shipment, chances are you'll find pristinely fresh produce at a great price. I'm never together enough to call before I go, but if you are, it may be to your benefit to find out when the last shipment came. - Similarly, we've purchased shelf-stable or dairy products, only to find when we unloaded groceries at home that products were expired. - Especially in these times, there could really be more attention paid to food handling protocols. A little while back, I purchased prepared snacks out of the refrigerator case. The person at the register kindly insisted on throwing in a few chutneys, but then went straight from working the register, handling money, etc... to the case, grabbed the containers of chutney without donning gloves or washing hands, and threw them directly into the bag with the food. I'm not usually a huge germaphobe -- heck, I eat street food in India -- but given our present context... this kind of gave me the willies. read more

If you want to find all sorts of Indian Foods and Spices you've come to the right place! As soon as you walk in you feel like you've been transported to India for a day and you're all of a sudden in front of endless spices, snacks, foods, fruits and vegetables all screaming India. What I love about them is how kind they are and helpful in helping you get what you need at a very affordable price. The BEST part is the hidden gem inside the market: THE CURRY POT. You can order fresh, restaurant grade, DELICIOUS, homemade, Indian food to go! It's so cheap and the portions are very generous. They also have one of the coolers where you can purchase cold/pre cooked items such as samosas and other appetizers you might be familiar with. I wait to review a place after 2 or 3 times especially when I am only ordering delivery. Indian Food and Spice gets nothing but 5 stars all around. The 5th star is given here for one simple fact. They called me and asked how I wanted my food cooked. I've ordered 3 times now, the first two were veggie curries so there is no 'temp' needed. BTW, the Saag Panner is perfect! So, now that I'm happy with the quality of the veggie dishes, I wanted to try their lamb and ordered the Boti Kabab. I did not see anywhere to select a temp of the meat on Yelp which was fine. They called me to get a temp on my lamb. What? That's wonderful and THANK YOU! I didn't need that to happen but they did it so what a bonus. And then it was delivered at the medium temp I asked for! I was so excited to get goat biryani...but once I got it I was so disappointed...everything about it was bad...the rice was super dry tasted like leftovers from yesterday or something n the goat was all bones I had 2 pieces that had some meat on it ..that was also very dry too.. overall my first n last time. read more

Everything you need! Take out and grocery all in one. Can't go wrong here. Very friendly staff. They even helped me with a recipe and it turned out AMAZING. Their Vegetable Samosas are DELICIOUS. Perfect spiciness and flavor. They are nice and big too. Their Aloo Gobi is so good. Didn't even have to ask for it to be spicy. It was perfect and would definitely order this again. The Lasuni Gobi was, ok. I've had better but it was still good. I probably wouldn't order again. read more

I came to Indian Food and Spice to pick up snacks for a Diwali party. I bought Chakri crackers, Punjabi mix and Mango Burfis. You could spend an entire day in here looking at all the spices and other cooking ingredients they have. There is also a handsome looking hot food menu. The store workers were friendly, the prices were more than reasonable and this place is very clean as well. read more

First time using Curry Pot. Butter Chicken was good. The online ordering site MealHi5 that they use gave me no confirmation email (supplied) or any indication that my order was placed and received. It wasn't until I checked my account that I saw it being processing. I did call Curry Pot to get a timeframe as to when it would be done. read more

Always ask for itemized bill. They swipe the product more than once if you are not paying attention and then they do not provide itemized bill unless you ask. Once the guy behind the counter swiped something which I did not purchase pretending to be helpful since it was my first time. I asked for itemized bill which I checked at home. Saw I was charged $5 for product which I had not bought. I went back and spoke to the person available who was the owner - he started fighting with me instead because he trusted his employee more. I asked him to check his camera footage for that day. Anyways the incident happened again when the lady owner tried to swipe me some masala packets twice. I asked and checked the itemized bill and informed that she has charged me more. She corrected that. If you do not get the itemized bill you will always end up thinking that this grocery store is expensive when infact they are deceiving customers. read more

Make sure you ask for the itemized receipt here. The guy here has charged few times for things we didn't buy. After scanning to look for prices, he doesn't clear the screen before starting a new transaction so it gets charged on your bill. Did refund us after we showed the receipt. read more

Friendly staff, neat store, good selection and prices. I was expecting the prices to be higher compared to my local super-market, but found for the couple of items which both stocked, that Indian Food and Spice was less expensive. For example, Pataks Biryani Curry Paste 10 Oz is $3.79 at Indian and $4.49 at my super-market, and $8.49 on Amazon.com. The have a buffet in the store, however, I learned this is operated separately as The Mango Tree. read more

One of my favorite markets in the area, with an array of Indian ingredients and spices that you won't find elsewhere. And with such great prices, there are even some staples I'll get from here instead of the grocery store. Now I know what I'm looking for most of the time, having cooked a lot of Indian and Middle Eastern food. But when I do have questions, the staff (and presumably owner) is more than eager and willing to help. I've learned some great tips from these guys and my Indian cooking has vastly improved as a result. It's not just ingredients, they also have some great take out food that's priced to sell. You can pick up dinners or lunch specials for less than any other Indian restaurant in the Danbury area. Or if you're in the cooking mood, get ready, because you're gonna have a lot of options. So what do they have? From the exotic to the staples, there are spices and sauces galore! Everything you'll need for that tikka, curry, or korma. I've replaced a lot of my oil and butter with Ghee (clarified butter), which is common in eastern cooking and sold in all quantities here. There are fresh herbs and veggies, priced lower than anywhere else, and some that you can only find here. Tons of starch options, from flours to rices and everything in between. Need some cheese? Well the paneer here is top notch and comes in various varieties and quantities, fresh or frozen. The freezer section is great, some great authentic microwaveable dinners to apps and deserts. I wish they had more meat, but you can go across the street to the Halal meat market for anything you'll need. That being said, that doesn't take away from how great of a market Indian Food and Spice is. Seriously, if you go anywhere else for your Indian ingredients, you're doing your dish and your wallet a disservice. And even if you're just curious, like I was the first time I went, stop on in, and you'll become a regular like me! read more

We ordered takeout from Curry Pot while house hunting in Ridgefield, and now we're regulars. Tonight we had mixed grill, saag paneer, butter chicken, lamb biryani, pakora, and deserts. The restaurant doesn't have seating, so you have to order takeout or have the food delivered. We like to pick it up and stock up on rice, beans, cheese, and other Indian ingredients. read more

Fresh bunches of cilantro. yes. curry leaves. yes. i actually came here for the first time before a big snow storm last year. the owner was very helpful as I meandered about looking for yellow daal and the ominous popping black sesame seed (that imo- are the trick to every dish!) regardless- i really f'd my daal dish up- but the ingredients at least made it taste proper even though i overcooked the daal. good place. has all the spices/veg's/ treats you will not find at a regular store. read more

The store is great.I always get my indian spices from there, but lately the store is reaking with spice smell, which comes from cooking behind the store I guess. Believe me I am indian, and I keep my jackets and clothes locked in closet when I cook indian food with lots of spices. Whenever I walk out of the store, I feel like my whole body and clothes smell like spices. This wasnt an issue before, when they first started. They probably dont have the right exhaust to do the cooking they do at store now. The store is probably designed to just stack and sell.I wish the owner would read this and make necessary changes. read more
