Wow. Wow wow wow. The food here is so good! My dear friends took me to dinner here tonight and to say I was happily surprised is an understatement! The food was all terrific. We ordered chicken kabobs mint chicken and vegetarian balls, along w wonderful naan, rice and a yummy white sauce that was not tziziki but reminded me of tziziki. The owner, Neel came over to welcome us and he is very interesting. He told us about his Mother (her recipes) and we were lucky to visit with him a bit. Then came the most incredible bread pudding. If my friend didn't scrape the plate w his spoon, I would have licked that plate clean :) The whole meal 13/10... I can't wait to go back. The place was packed when we walked in just before 6. We were he 3 months ago and the food was excellent . I Gave them 5 stars. So we were so happy to return only to find the exact same dishes were not good. The chicken was dry, the naan was over cooked like a crispy cracker and the other dishes were lacking flavor. The rice was still good though. My husband was so disappointed that he said he will not go back. We do not have an Indian restaurant to go to in Coachella valley now. My opinion not the same chef this past Tuesday as when we came on a Friday before. read more

Since my last review, I've eaten here in person a few times and it is actually much better than the take out! I recommend going in person. I've also tried a few of their desserts (which they have available regularly now), and they're delicious. As other reviews have mentioned, this place is definitely pricey, has an a la carte menu with smaller portions, and they can be kind of rude/strict. However, there's something I sort of like about that? I like the audacity to not allow kids, and I'm sorry, but it does make for a better dining experience. If you're mentally prepared for all this, you can in fact have a fabulous dining experience here. The place has really grown on me. read more

We went last night for dinner with friends who introduced us to the restaurant. The food is EXCELLENT. The curries, sauces and meats are rich and flavorful along with the with delicate naan and fragrant rice. The dinning room is nice. Seating is a bit tight, but comfortable. Service is good as well. Worst treatment after restaurant got our order wrong, and refused to change or refund. They didn't provide one of the plates we order and the rest of the order was extra spicy even though they said they could do it non spicy. It's even stated in our receipt. I do not recommend, absolutely worst treatment. read more

The naan was a huge disappointment. It lacked the traditional crunch and tandoor char. Instead, it looked and tasted exactly like plain, thick pita bread. Completely missed the mark and unacceptable for an authentic Indian restaurant. Rest of the food was okay, but I wouldn't come back for the bread. read more

Our Indian Kitchen delivery via Postmates was the best we've had in a year. This is why we love it -- unfortunately consistency remains a challenge for them. The chicken tikka kebab was perfectly grilled (not burnt and dry due to overcooking as it can be half the time). The garlic naan was also perfect. While the chicken vindaloo was too spicy -- maybe my fault since I didn't pick the spice level and maybe do other times -- it was delicious. I wish Indian Kitchen would do a better, more consistent job of checking the food before it gets sent out to customers. Because when it is really good, it is great! read more

Nice ambience...can be a little noisy because every table is occupied! Indian sauces are excellent, as is the Naan. The exception was the Mangalorean sauce, which was not my favorite...a personal issue. Wine selection was excellent. Wine inventory was low, but owner substituted a very good wine. I always want to check out a new restaurant for lunch, and Indian Kitchen has always thwarted me by only being open for dinner. I finally made it in though, and they tell me that they'll be doing lunch hours in the fall. Even with my high degree of Indian Cuisine snobbery, Indian Kitchen did not disappoint. Nice, clean interior; rather intimate. Service was impeccable from start to finish. Wine and beer list were impressive, with local beers on tap and a wide variety of imports. We ordered vegetarian, just because we were in the mood. Dal, Malai Kofta, and rice. Everything came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. Special mention for the rich, creamy sauce on the Malai Kofta. We'll be back. read more

We ordered Dal (Lentils) (GF) , Paneer Tikka Masala (GF) and Garlic Nan . Dal and naan were undercooked. There was no option to customize the spice level and both entrees were ~4 spice level. For the price that they charged, the portion wasn't big and there was also no rice included. I'll not recommend this place. read more

My wife and I visited Indian Kitchen recently. As soon as we were seated, a tall man approached the table. The following conversation ensued: Tall man: Good evening. I must tell you that I do not allow guests to bring in drinks. Wife: Even iced tea? Tall man: We have iced tea. Wife: But do you have decaffeinated iced tea, with stevia? Tall man: No, but I still won't allow it. Me: Well, I guess we should dine elsewhere. Tall man: Yes, you should. I think it's rude to do that. The tall man (who I believe to be the owner, given his repeated use of "I") never smiled or apologized during our encounter. He acted as though he was personally offended that my wife had brought a tumbler of tea into his restaurant. By the way, the restaurant's web site says, "There are no kids' menus available. We only accommodate guests over the age of 16. There are no high chairs & we do not have space for strollers." read more

Didn't get an opportunity to eat here cos we were turned away at the door! Minors not allowed at this restaurant... which can be respectable! Except the way we were treated by whoever was at the door (maybe owner) was horrible to the max - which can be a guarantee that the food has shitty vibes like its owner! Indian food and culture is renowned to be family style and family friendly. The least he could do is make us feel welcome by saying something on the lines - "we are happy to see you guys here and can seat you outside if that's okay for you ...". We saw a new Indian restaurant opened up in the area and we were excited to try it out. I went on a double date with my brother and his wife on a Wednesday night. We were seated quickly. It's in the same plaza as Sprouts in Indian Wells. For the appetizer we had the Kitchen Special which was samosas with garbanzo beans, which we all agreed tasted the best and most authentic. The spices and flavor were on point with home made samosa dishes I've had at my boyfriend's parent's house. The Garlic Naan was also great. It wasn't soft and had a non overwhelming garlic flavor. For our entrees, we ordered: - 2 Chicken Tikka Masalas, one with mild spice and the other as spicy as it can get. Unfortunately, it was average. The dish didn't stand out for the price of $25.00. The rice that came with it was fluffy and soft though. - Chicken Tikka Kabob was dry and had no flavor whatsoever. They forgot to serve the dish with the spiced yogurt as well. After receiving the yogurt, it helped with the dryness but I wouldn't recommend this dish. -Lamb Saag was average as well. It lacked flavor and spice and again for the price of $27.00, it wasn't worth it. Not sure if I would go again and if I do it would probably be for the Kitchen Special and the Garlic Naan. :) read more

I would give this place a zero rating if I could me and my girlfriend went to eat a small meal ordered ordered six items and they charged $30 for five shrimp that were overcooked then they had the balls to charge $15 to split the meal which they didn't split anything. We ended up with two plates and then when my girlfriend asked the waiter why is there a split fee? The owner stepped in and said did you tell them that there was gonna be a split fee and he was rude about it? And a split fee was never mentioned when ordering the food I would never ever go back to this Dive again what a rip off they should be ashamed calling this scam a restaurant and if you order a glass of wine, you get a quarter of a glass of wine Fuck this place do not ever go here !!! My English husband is obsessed with the chicken tikka masala and I go between the chicken vindaloo or the Neel's favorite. Either way you won't be disappointed! Wow ... I'm still in shock at the complete lack of graciousness of the owner. Since they don't take reservations, we called ahead to ask what time we should come in for a special family dinner. The owner said 7:30 would be a perfect time. When we arrived, despite several empty tables, he told us we wouldn't be served for an hour and a half. No "I'm sorry." No "I wish I could help." Just a shrug and he walked away. Needless to say, I DO NOT recommend, especially with so many small businesses in the area that have wonderful customer service. read more

Delicious! My first time to Indian Kitchen, but won't be the last. We were greeted with a nice smile, our service was fantastic. Ambiance was pleasant, but the star was the food. This was at Indian Wells area. We were really hungry for something delicious as many places closed down by 9:00 or 9:30 in this area. Arrived here around 7:30 and we thought it was a fast food Indian restaurant by the looks of the outside considering it was in a tiny little mall.. I asked my son to go check it out and see what it smelled like lol. He laughed and I said well, that's one way you can find out before you actually sit down and order any food. He came back smiling and we went inside and ate. There are no cell phones allowed in here so you don't get any photos. The service was excellent from beginning to end the tip is included it's about 20%. The meal was around $80. You do have to spend extra for rice. I ordered the chicken Tiki kebab with a European beer I can't remember the name started with an M. It was really good and Mild. Next time, I will not order beer and just drink tea so I can eat all of my food. My meal was absolutely delicious! And there was a lot of it. My son ordered a chicken dish that was a little too spicy but he enjoyed it a lot and ordered a jar jelly and tea that came in a bottle. It was okay, but I guess he was expecting hot tea. Overall, we would definitely go back as it is the best Indian food. We have never experienced any food like that here in San Diego. If you're down in this area it's a absolute must to go eat in here. The Ambiance is wonderful and it's very simple but, classic inside. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I really have enjoyed the 3 times I've eaten here. The price point is fair, and the food is very good. The atmosphere is pleasing, and the service it attentive. The one thing I am not a fan of is the very uncomfortable, hard seats. Wood. I meant to bring a cushion the last time I went, but forgot. My friend enjoys sitting for a few minutes after we eat, but the seats are just too hard to sit on for me. I've opined that perhaps it's strategic on the owner's part so that people don't overstay . I know it's not just me because I mentioned it to the colleague who turned me on to Indian Oven, and she said she and her partner had discussed the hard seats after the first time they went as well. The food is good, so I'll persevere. read more
