There are not many Vietnamese restaurants in the area to compete with, and Indochine has been here in Atwater for over a decade. In years past, they have been just okay. A spot to grab some Pho or Vermicelli, or even a Bahn Mi if you don't want to make a trek into the SGV or visit nearby equivalents. The Pho here has gotten better. Their broth, on average, isn't overly seasoned nor overly fragrant. Noodles are fresh, along with the accompaniments of vegetables and herbs. Popular friend Egg Rolls are small and lack real Vietnamese flavors. They do offer a variety of fillings. Rice Dishes and Vermicelli are on par with many of the mentioned dishes. Ingredients are fresh and still average. There is simply no great value here with pricing that borders on gourmet. $18 for a bowl of Pho and $10 order of egg rolls is simply difficult to spend for what you are getting here without considering elsewhere. Their Bahn Mi sandwiches are also nearly $20. Not my first go-to, but their service is friendly, and the take-away or delivery option in a pinch is convenient. read more

Hadn't visited this spot for a while now. It's was chilly weather which meant time for some pho. I order Pho Thai which comes with rare steak. It was good and did the job. Also helped clear my sinuses. My friend got the vegetarian stir fry noodle (Pho Chay Xao) , this one came out and looked/smelled really good. She was debating between this and vegetable pho but was glad she got this. Lots of veggies, noodles, tofu, and peanuts. Also came with a side of vinegar/citrus sauce that added a nice punch. Heard good things about this place. To go with homemade salad and veggies, we ordered Pho Bo Xao, stir-fried rice noodles with strips of beef, slices of onions, carrots, etc. It was very salty and otherwise tasteless, even with express delivery, it was gooey and too oily. This is normally a tasty dish. Their Vietnamese sweet and sour sauce was watery, also not much taste, so that didn't help. I have frequented this location as it is close to home and the broth is good! Usually we can secure parking in the back lot- we order the spring rolls with peanut sauce, a pho tai, a pho bo xao, and sometimes a viet ice coffee or tea. Service is always efficient and no-nonsense. The pho tai is all you could ask: perfect broth, fresh cilantro, basil, lime, bean sprouts and green chili slices; the customary condiments on the table to add more if you wish. I often request 1/2 noodles since I can't finish the regular size order all in one sitting. There is limited staff- I have seen reviews with complaints- honestly just be patient and if you simply request what you want you are more likely to get that. (Ie: Not spicy enough? Request more chili or green peppers!) Usually the music is a 1980s-1990s nostalgia mix. There are ample tables and I have never seen anyone waiting to be seated for long. Enjoy! read more

I'm a regular here and my son asked what other things should he try of Vietnamese cuisine (we are both part Vietnamese), so I recommended banh mi this time. Turns out I hadn't tried Indochine's yet, so we both had the chicken sandwich. It was so good! It comes with french fries and is just the right amount of food. I try to avoid leaving bad reviews but this experience was pretty absurd; in fact, I called Indochine before posting to try and correct my $20 bun bowl that had literally 1 oz of chicken and a pound of vermicelli (see photos). Just Spent $65 on a take out order and asked for no dressing, in other words dry for the "Banh Mi Sandwich -Strips of marinated tenderloin and sauteed onions. 17.95". If you can not make a sandwich dry then you should say so but instead they said ok but the reality was a thoroughly soggy sandwich becasue they made no effort to keep the liquids in the meat from contacting the bread. They could have easily said it is not possible to keep it dry so I could order something else or offer the bread separate from the meat in order to accommodate my request. On top of all that the sandwich was extremely salty. I know you don't get much for $18 but it should at least be edible. I tossed the bread and added rice to counter all the salt so that I could even eat it. I would also note that for the price they are very frugal on the portion of meat they included. I made the mistake of calling the restaurant and speaking to the owner who took my order. When I asked him why when I specifically asked for the sandwich with no dressing he did not accommodate me, he snapped back that I never asked for it this way. He had an attitude that it was his word against mine and he was not willing to even consider that he was wrong. I then asked them why the sandwich was so salty and he said no one else is complaining. I asked what ingredient they use that is responsible for the salty taste and he refused to share any ingredient information. So if you are allergic to something don't expect this establishment to share what they use in their food. Needless to say I would never go back here again there are plenty of better choices with staff that actually treat their customers with appreciation and respect unlike Indochine Vien. read more

It was cold and raining so I REALLY wanted some Pho. It might have also been a Friday, so it had to be vegetarian. This place had the PERFECT dish for me... the vegetarian pho definitely hit the spot. The hot soup was tasty and there was more than enough noodles. There was enough shrimp, but it could have used more mushrooms. I definitely recommend adding the usual sides which comes with the pho. Would definitely consider coming back to try their other dishes. There's more to this place than just pho. If you choose, you can eat your food at the restaurant. There was more than enough places to sit. There's free shared parking in the back, but sometimes if it's really busy, finding a parking space can be challenging. Flavor is great however their portions are like kids meals when it comes to the protein. Literally 90% salad/bland noodles and 10% shrimp/chicken or beef. They are very stingy and I've asked to double the meat and they don't seem too happy about it. With their prices they should really be considerate and provide a reasonable amount of protein. I went to Indochine Vien with my family for the first time recently. I had the pork banh mi, and the others had different pho dishes. On my banh mi the meat and the pickles and other fillings were fantastic, but alas the bread was not so great - very crumbly and didn't hold together well to sandwich properly. Regrets! It's nice to have found Vietnamese foods in the area. However, it's not fully "authentic" as claimed. There are definitely rooms for lots of improvements. Foods being served DO not look like the photos that the website is posting! The price is way too pricey for what are being served. Coffee are not freshly made. The restaurant just have an already made pitch of coffee mixed with milk (condensed milk?) out and give that to the customer when it's being ordered. Foods are so so; some are below average. Please try to make it more authentic and better quality. This is not what was served...far below...The spring rolls was terrible, below average and overcharged! I've driven past this many times on my way from one job to another and usually not enough time to stop in, pre-Covid. This time I've had some extra time and was starving so stopped here. They are not serving indoors yet but I planned to take to go. One or two guys running the place. I got the bun chay(rice noodle salad) took ten minutes. I sat in my car with 45 mins before starting. I don't know, maybe because the container that put it in was thr Styrofoam 3 section and I couldn't mix the components together very well. It was an ok flavor, but I just didn't enjoy it too much. Wanted to eat there tonight- Friday 11/11/23-about 7:30pm ish. Parked in the back, walked to the front door. From the exterior the place looked like a dirty dump. Dim lights, front door and window glass etched with tagging graffiti. From my brief glimpse inside the joint looked empty of customers. We ordered pho and bank mi. The service was fine, like any "normal" service anyone would receive at a restaurant. The food was below my expectations of what's considered good, authentic Vietnamese food. The pho has the typical Vietnamese food flavor profile, but it did not quite hit the mark, compared to Vietnamese restaurants in SGV or Little Saigon in OC. The flavor is there (slightly) but it lacks "depth". Regarding the bang mi, it was just ok. We had the pork roll one. It didn't have the "deliciousness" or the "yum" factor like some other banh mi we had tried. Overall, it was just ok. And given that, it's a bit pricey. When I received the delivery and opened the container I was taken aback at the burnt food in-front of me. I recognize that the rent is out of control in LA but wow hard to stomach $30 when I can get the same exact thing for $15 on the East side of LA.
