Yelp doesn't disappoint with this authentic Vietnamese spot. Don't expect a fine dining experience walking in. However, what you'll find is a clean and efficient mom-and-pop place with plenty of tables for the family. Service is quick, and parking is available in front. Parking might be challenging on busy nights. I ordered the Pho and spring rolls; I found the broth to be rich and freshly flavored. The spring rolls are large and filled with shrimp and pork, meeting expectations. I'll definitely return.

Banh Beo and Nem Nuong. This place is cash only. They prepare the food very fast. It's a small business with great flavor, the fish sauce for bánh bèo is delicious, and the dipping sauce for nem nướng is yummy.

I LOVEEE LOVEEE this restaurant. It is a cute Vietnamese family owned business. I am always eating here when I am back home. They specialize in nem nuong which is Vietnamese grilled porked and it is so delicious - their dipping sauce for the nem nuong is amazing. I also love their bun bo hue, com tam suon cha, and their nem nuong spring rolls. Those three are my absolute favorite. I literally can't get enough. This place takes cash only, so make sure to stop by an ATM. They also sell their nem nuong frozen, so if you want to buy it and make it at home, that is an option as well and they also provide their dipping sauce. Parking is available, but pretty small lot - no issues because I always am able to find one. Service is also very quick and efficient. Their menu is extensive. The restaurant itself is small, but the food is made with so much love.

Came here through the recommendations of my friends and I'm so glad I went because this place did not disappoint! Everything was so delicious and really hit the spot! On top of that the staff was super friendly and accommodating. We ordered a whole bunch of stuff but the star of the show were the banh beo chen tom chay (#7). I really couldn't get enough of it. I also opted to get stir fry beef plate as well as the meatball and egg roll vermicelli (#35) and I couldn't believe I finished both plates. The vermicelli was very refreshing and the meat ball was nice and crispy! The stir fry beef was tender and very flavorful. We also ordered pho tai and it was HUGE! And the soup tasted sooooo clean! Definitely is going to be one of my favorite spots! To note, this is cash only; has a small parking lot in the plaza and has about 7-8 tables which seats between 2 people to 8 people.

Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa seems to be a down home, mom & pop, Vietnamese, stripmall restaurant. Clean, with nary a cooking odor decorated by what looks like prosperous, fat god of fortune, gorgeous, vigorous, Zamia cycad overflowing its pot and showing a rare bloom. Nem Nuong is its claim to fame so ordered Nem Nuong Cuon which is also the famed item at the Brodard restaurant chain in Orange County. 1) Nem Nuong Cuon contains a finely ground pork sliced sausage with Umami of Nuoc Mam/fish sauce & garlic initially steamed then lightly grilled with nice, meaty porkiness. I've encountered many other Nem Nuong that is over fried to leather, fatty, greasy so the version here has quality. There is a plentiful chiffonade of refreshing green lettuce, Rau Ram that adds a subtle, metallic sourness, bit of mint, cilantro and slice of cucumber, green onion. All tautly wrapped up in a thin, stretchy, translucent rice paper. 2) Voi Cha Ram Tom is a very thin, long, flat wheat pasta wrapper containing a bit of shrimp & long green onion leaf. It is fried to exquisite airy crunchiness. I should have had this included inside the Nem Nuong Cuon to add another dimension of textural contrast. Item #8 on the menu has those attributes. 1-2a) Tương Chấm sauce is viscous, orange with micro bits of white. Thickener is steamed, white rice; orange from paprika probably enriched by Nuoc Cham which is diluted, sweetened fish sauce. I added puréed Chile pepper sauce as well as crushed red chiles simmered in oil, and garlicky Sriracha to pep up this mild sauce. 3) The signature Kai Vi/appetizer of Vietnamese cuisine is Cha Gio which is ground pork, shredded cabbage, carrots, garlic, black pepper, Nuoc Mam/fish sauce filling all wrapped up tight in a thin wheat pasta sheet and fried to crispiness. The glory of this dish is the accompanying mound of whole, green lettuce leaves, mint, cilantro that adds a refreshing, herbal backdrop to the meaty savoriness of the fried rolls. Nuoc Cham with obligatory shredded carrot with its sweet Umami is the dipping sauce. 4) Bun Bo Hue: Hue in central Vietnam was the old capital so many royal dishes were created for the nobility so perhaps this could be one of them. Made of beef & pork bone broth that is light and refreshing dark red with a touch of chile piquancy. Good handful of white, fat rice noodles. I added Sriracha; roasted, crushed chile oil; chile purée as well as a dash of Nuoc Mam/concentrated fish sauce to add more of a kick and Umami. Got the Dac Biet/special version that had: a) thin beef steak b) blood pudding c) cartilage for collagen d) Cha lua sausage is typically made with finely ground, lean pork, potato starch, garlic, black pepper, fish sauce e) tiny bit of pork bone with cartilage & pork skin attached Fresh Garnishes are crispy bean sprouts, cilantro, mint, shredded red cabbage, rau ram with that sour, ferric minerality. 1-4a) Tra Da is fragrant, cold, astringent Jasmine tea to refresh the palate in between bites. 5) Che Ba Mao reminds me of a more dressed down version of Filipino Halo Halo cold dessert. Crushed ice is the main component with addition of squiggly green jelly, condensed milk, coconut milk. Sweet, simmered, whole kidney beans with varied textures from firm to creamy soft. Puréed yellow mung beans. Carefully use the long handled spoon to mix all the ingredients together for a great end to a satisfying meal. Owners are cordial and kind refilling my Tra Da as needed. Quiet when I went at 5:30pm on a Thursday. Prices are reasonable and there is a feeling of cleanliness. Very impressed with the Vietnamese food at Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa. It is far closer than having to trek all the way to Little Saigon in Orange County. Only reason to go is to O.C. may be the fact that Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa curiously doesn't do Banh Cuon Cha Lua. 4+ stars

Cash only mom and pop shop. Limited parking not great for big parties. The vibe is cozy, food comes out pretty fast. Boss lady has a stern face but super sweet. The egg rolls with the lettuce is supposed to be a snack / appetizer but it's a whole meal in itself. Hot crispy, with a cool lettuce cucumber slice dipped in their fish sauce. The pho is really good, the soup and all. They do the typical low meat quantity but you can add extra meat ($2 portions extra) I got the $2 extra meat if I didn't have egg rolls I think I would have done the $4.

The restaurant is located inside a little plaza with a parking lot. Small restaurant but we didn't have to wait. We tried charbroiled beef spring roll, pho Tai, and pork chop spring roll broken rice. Everything was piping hot and fresh. Never had an egg roll so hot and flaky. Food was great. Be warned: cash only. Luckily we had cash on us. Also drawback no public restrooms. Don't drink too much soup or water ;)

I used to visit this old school spot in Alhambra from time to time. I recently checked in and noticed that I had never written about it!! I was shocked, or maybe I was trying to keep it quiet so that others would know how great and tasty this place is. I love their shrimp rolls. They are delicious when you wrap them up with lettuce, mint, and other ingredients that are given. I am also a fan of the pennyworth drink which many Vietnamese stores have actually stopped making. It's a green juice that you can add sugar to or have it plain which I like the most! And this place lets you have it without sugar. It is similar to a wheatgrass shot but it's a drink. They have rice plates, pho and other tasty things so come and try out this mom and pops store.

A small hidden gem for delicious Vietnamese food in Alhambra on Valley, across from Yoshinoya. Their specialty is the Nem Nướng (Vietnamese grilled pork sausage or charbroiled meatballs). My mom and I got there before 7 p.m. (They closed at 8 p.m) but it was very busy & at full capacity inside. It was a little mom & pop shop, so we waited outside for about 25 minutes. (There was no sign-in paper for you to check in, though). I ordered my favorite food #7 Bánh Bèo chén tôm cháy (蝦米絲碗仔糕) Rice cakes are topped with crushed dried shrimp in small bowls. ($7.95 for 9 small bowls). They were so delicious and addictive. I used to go to my favorite Summer Rolls, but this place also tasted so good, and they put a lot of crushed dried shrimp on the rice cake. The rice cakes were smooth. And another dish was also our favorite dish #24 Bánh hỏi Nem nướng & Chả ram tôm (燒串肉蝦卷蒸米粉) $15.95 It was charboiled meatballs (or grilled pork sausage) & shrimp rolls mixed with tiny steamed rice vermicelli. My mom and I always love to order this dish at many Vietnamese restaurants. They gave us a lot of rice paper, rice vermicelli, and veggies to wrap the grilled pork sausage. The Vietnamese grilled pork sausage was very flavorful with a sweet flavor. The banh hoi (rice vermicelli) could be a little bit softer. I liked the dipping sauce for my rolls. The place was a bit outdated and crowded inside. However, the food was very good. We liked both dishes, and the staff were friendly. Btw, they accept CASH only.

FOOD: delicious, not a super wide variety but i did really enjoy their vermicelli bowls and their che dessert. they don't have too many vegetarian options. banh beo was a little undercooked imo spring rolls aren't "build your own" like yelp advertises SERVICE: good, CASH ONLY. prices are fair AMBIANCE: small parking lot, place is a family friendly hole in the wall. :)

Bun Bo hue take out at home
    Yingbo W.

I had the bun bo hue here and the one at Nha Trang Restaurant in Monterey Park down the road on the same day! I drove an hour from the west side just to get bun bo hue so I needed to try both places in one go. I got take out and heated it up back at home. The bun bo hue here isn't it. The ingredients here looked more legit. They had the cold cut ham and rau ram which Nha Trang lacked. However, the broth here is not fragrant at all! It tastes like repurposed pho broth and it was tart and tomatoey. The pork blood cubes were extra brown, hard, and tasted rotten like the smell you get from the meat section of a dirty Asian grocery store. I also could not taste the fermented shrimp paste. The funk came from the unusually fishy pork blood which was not the flavor I was going for. The soup and meat at Nha Trang were perfect. Go there instead!

Broken rice with grilled pork chop and meatballs

One of the better vietnamese porks chop / com suon nuong out there! The parking lot is tiny and it's shared with several other businesses. I ended up parking on the street nearby. The restaurant is a mom & pop small business. I arrived at 12pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was full. There's no waitlist. Fortunately many people were done eating and were on their way out. They took about 10-15 minutes to wipe down the tables, but the chair and floor was still messy. Also when they dropped off the side of vegetables and herbs for pho, jalapenos dropped on the table. The server apologized and put the jalapenos right back onto the plate. Let's just say sanitary standards aren't the best here. Now personally, I ordered the broken rice plate with grilled pork chop and pork meatballs (aka com suon nem nuong). The pork chop was tender, flavorful, and delicious. I would easily come back here for this dish and I highly recommend it. I live near Orange County and this was better than many spots in Westminister and Garden Grove.

Ask the Community - Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa

Is there an ATM on site?

No , you have to go to store next door to find an ATM

Does anyone know if they do catering?

Yes but you'd probably have to go in and ask and speak in Vietnamese as well

Has anyone been able to make a phone order? Phone is always busy when I call.

I always see people coming in to pick up phone orders when I sit down and eat here. The staff are just genuinely away from the phone and are trying to efficiently take care of higher priority tasks. Please keep trying a few times.

Hidden Gem in Alhambra - Finally Tried It After 4 Years of Driving By!…read more I've lived in Alhambra for the last 4 years and drove past this place almost every day, always assuming it was just another hot pot spot. It never looked super busy, so I kept putting it off. Big mistake--don't let that happen to you like it did to me! We finally went in and ordered a bunch: the Spicy Beef Shank Rice Noodle, Rattan Pepper Sliced Beef Rice Noodle, Popcorn Chicken, Sesame Balls, Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake, Fried Milk Rolls, and Fried Taro Balls. Everything was outstanding. The noodles were amazing--fresh, chewy, with high-quality ingredients you can really taste in every bite. The broths had that perfect spicy kick without being overwhelming, and the beef was super tender. My wife and I couldn't stop eating; literally everything we tried was delicious. She especially loved the Fried Taro Balls--they were crispy outside, soft and flavorful inside. The sides/snacks were all hits too: the Popcorn Chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the Sesame Balls and Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake brought great texture and sweetness, and the Fried Milk Rolls were a fun surprise. Service was top-notch--shoutout to Icey, who took such great care of us. One of the best and most attentive experiences we've had in a while. If you're in Alhambra and love good food, do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't go wrong here--highly recommend! 5 stars all the way.

The only downside is they don't have their AC on during the summer. I remember one time I was sweating while eating and it was very uncomfortable.

On a Saturday evening, my husband and I decided to grab dinner here. Because we parked in the shared parking lot, we entered the restaurant through the back. We were immediately greeted upon entering. After being seated and looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Fish Tofu Congee, $10.50 prior to tax- This meal truly nourished my soul because I was really sick a few days before and hardly ate anything. The congee was nice and hot and thick, just the way I like it. Portion wise, this is perfect for 2- 3 people to share. But again because I had not eaten much for the last few days, I ended up eating most of it (lol, had not realized how hungry I was until I was eating this). My husband did enjoy this congee too. Beef Stew Noodle Soup, $14.95 prior to tax- My husband ordered this dish and thought the soup was flavorful and the noodles had a nice chew. I also liked this dish and thought it was delicious. My husband finished most of this dish. ------------------------------ (Total= $28.10 after tax, prior to tip) Service was friendly. And because the restaurant is on the small side, it was very easy to get a server's attention if you needed something. Although I did speak mostly Cantonese when I was here (I am actually trying to make myself speak Cantonese more), you can order in English. So you shouldn't have any trouble when you dine here. Overall, coming to The Congee was the right choice for dinner and so glad we did. I do see myself coming back here for another meal in the near future. Please note that there is a unisex restaurant towards the back of the restaurant, right next to the back entrance/ exit. The restroom itself had all the basic essentials (running water, toilet paper, paper towels and soap) but wasn't the cleanest. It was decent at best.
