I have been coming to Nem Nuong Khánh Hòa for years and don't see a lot of people coming here. It is ran by your Vietnamese aunty and uncle and their food is authentic. Their prices have not changed in years and the portions remain the same versus shrinkflation. Their menu is not that big but it has your essential Vietnamese dishes. Today I ordered the banh beo bi, vermicelli with nem nuong and egg rolls, nem nuong coun and che ba mau. Banh beo bi are rice cakes topped with shredded pork. It comes with chilies and fish sauce for you to pour on top. The rice cakes are served warm and are super smooth and soft. The thai chilies it comes with are spicy so don't use too much. The vermicelli with nem nuong and egg rolls comes with a slab of meat and a whole egg roll. The bottom are the noodles and mix of veggie and herbs. The nem nuong is sweetened charbroiled pork that is grilled. Think of a sweet meat ball. The egg rolls are super crispy and filled with meat. The noodles go well with the fish sauce and there are a lot of veggies inside. The nem nuong coun is a spring roll that's wrapped in rice paper. It has the meat and lettuce wrapped inside and comes with a dipping sauce. I believe the sauce is made with ground shrimp. For $8 for 3 rolls it is a steal compared to other restaurants. Came here through the recommendations of my friends and I'm so glad I went because this place did not disappoint! Everything was so delicious and really hit the spot! Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa seems to be a down home, mom & pop, Vietnamese, stripmall restaurant. Clean, with nary a cooking odor decorated by what looks like prosperous, fat god of fortune, gorgeous, vigorous, Zamia cycad overflowing its pot and showing a rare bloom. Nem Nuong is its claim to fame so ordered Nem Nuong Cuon which is also the famed item at the Brodard restaurant chain in Orange County. 1) Nem Nuong Cuon contains a finely ground pork sliced sausage with Umami of Nuoc Mam/fish sauce & garlic initially steamed then lightly grilled with nice, meaty porkiness. I've encountered many other Nem Nuong that is over fried to leather, fatty, greasy so the version here has quality. There is a plentiful chiffonade of refreshing green lettuce, Rau Ram that adds a subtle, metallic sourness, bit of mint, cilantro and slice of cucumber, green onion. All tautly wrapped up in a thin, stretchy, translucent rice paper. 2) Voi Cha Ram Tom is a very thin, long, flat wheat pasta wrapper containing a bit of shrimp & long green onion leaf. It is fried to exquisite airy crunchiness. I should have had this included inside the Nem Nuong Cuon to add another dimension of textural contrast. Item #8 on the menu has those attributes. 1-2a) Tương Chấm sauce is viscous, orange with micro bits of white. Thickener is steamed, white rice; orange from paprika probably enriched by Nuoc Cham which is diluted, sweetened fish sauce. I added puréed Chile pepper sauce as well as crushed red chiles simmered in oil, and garlicky Sriracha to pep up this mild sauce. 3) The signature Kai Vi/appetizer of Vietnamese cuisine is Cha Gio which is ground pork, shredded cabbage, carrots, garlic, black pepper, Nuoc Mam/fish sauce filling all wrapped up tight in a thin wheat pasta sheet and fried to crispiness. The glory of this dish is the accompanying mound of whole, green lettuce leaves, mint, cilantro that adds a refreshing, herbal backdrop to the meaty savoriness of the fried rolls. Nuoc Cham with obligatory shredded carrot with its sweet Umami is the dipping sauce. 4) Bun Bo Hue: Hue in central Vietnam was the old capital so many royal dishes were created for the nobility so perhaps this could be one of them. Made of beef & pork bone broth that is light and refreshing dark red with a touch of chile piquancy. Good handful of white, fat rice noodles. I added Sriracha; roasted, crushed chile oil; chile purée as well as a dash of Nuoc Mam/concentrated fish sauce to add more of a kick and Umami. Got the Dac Biet/special version that had: a) thin beef steak b) blood pudding c) cartilage for collagen d) Cha lua sausage is typically made with finely ground, lean pork, potato starch, garlic, black pepper, fish sauce e) tiny bit of pork bone with cartilage & pork skin attached Fresh Garnishes are crispy bean sprouts, cilantro, mint, shredded red cabbage, rau ram with that sour, ferric minerality. 1-4a) Tra Da is fragrant, cold, astringent Jasmine tea to refresh the palate in between bites. 5) Che Ba Mao reminds me of a more dressed down version of Filipino Halo Halo cold dessert. Crushed ice is the main component with addition of squiggly green jelly, condensed milk, coconut milk. Sweet, simmered, whole kidney beans with varied textures from firm to creamy soft. Puréed yellow mung beans. Carefully use the long handled spoon to mix all the ingredients together for a great end to a satisfying meal. Owners are cordial and kind refilling my Tra Da as needed. Quiet when I went at 5:30pm on a Thursday. Prices are reasonable and there is a feeling of cleanliness. Very impressed with the Vietnamese food at Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa. It is far closer than having to trek all the way to Little Saigon in Orange County. Only reason to go is to O.C. may be the fact that Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa curiously doesn't do Banh Cuon Cha Lua. 4+ stars read more

I was shocked, or maybe I was trying to keep it quiet so that others would know how great and tasty this place is. I love their shrimp rolls. They are delicious when you wrap them up with lettuce, mint, and other ingredients that are given. I am also a fan of the pennyworth drink which many Vietnamese stores have actually stopped making. I had the bun bo hue here and the one at Nha Trang Restaurant in Monterey Park down the road on the same day! I drove an hour from the west side just to get bun bo hue so I needed to try both places in one go. I got take out and heated it up back at home. The bun bo hue here isn't it. The ingredients here looked more legit. They had the cold cut ham and rau ram which Nha Trang lacked. However, the broth here is not fragrant at all! It tastes like repurposed pho broth and it was tart and tomatoey. The pork blood cubes were extra brown, hard, and tasted rotten like the smell you get from the meat section of a dirty Asian grocery store. I also could not taste the fermented shrimp paste. The funk came from the unusually fishy pork blood which was not the flavor I was going for. The soup and meat at Nha Trang were perfect. Go there instead! read more

They took about 10-15 minutes to wipe down the tables, but the chair and floor was still messy. Also when they dropped off the side of vegetables and herbs for pho, jalapenos dropped on the table. The server apologized and put the jalapenos right back onto the plate. Let's just say sanitary standards aren't the best here. Now personally, I ordered the broken rice plate with grilled pork chop and pork meatballs (aka com suon nem nuong). The pork chop was tender, flavorful, and delicious. The Bun Bo Hue is paired with tender slices of beef shank or brisket and pork trotter, pork patty meatballs, cubed blood, Al dente rice noodles then you topped it with lots of fresh herbs as you like. The broth here isn't over powered by aromatics or shrimp paste, instead it's very balanced. It's NOT fishy like some places I tried. It's simply a delicious version of Bun Bo Hue for my taste. I love the egg rolls here, but I think it's because they give you a copious amount of veggies with your order! You can seriously make a bowl of salad with the amount they give you. Lastly, almost every review on here mentions how wonderful the service is and they are correct- the owners here are so so thoughtful and attentive. On multiple occasions, the owners insisted on carrying my heavily boxed up takeout to the car for me. Am not the only one; they treat everyone well. Cash only! Being a hole-in-the-wall is no excuse for poor hygiene. My table was greasy and sticky, and my chair still had food residue from previous customers. The most disturbing part was when my pho was served -- the male owner had thick black gunk packed under his fingernails, and his thumb was inside my bowl of soup as he set it down. It was completely unsanitary and I couldn't eat the food. Pho Tai - the broth was terrible, and the meat was so stingy. They shouldn't charge that much for such a small amount of meat. Spring Rolls - Just okay. Sausage and shrimp egg roll filling, but only tiny Pocky-sized sticks and hardly any shrimp. read more

Met up with friend in Alhambra and we decided to go here for lunch. We ordered bánh bèo and Bún bò huế. BBH tasted bland, no flavor of lemongrass and barely have any meat. Absolutely junk! read more

CASH ONLY. We drove about 20 mins to come to this pho restaurant and it was sooo worth the drive! It's located in a small plaza. We walked in and the workers were having lunch, but attended to us right away. I thought that was so wholesome seeing them enjoy food together :) The restaurant is clean! No dirty tables when we walked in. Our server let us choose our table, dropped off some menus and came back a few minutes later to take our order. She was fantastic. They had rotating servers/bussers which was cool-- really shows they all work together well. BANH BEO: We ordered this purely off of seeing everyone else on Yelp enjoy it. I was like "It's like $8 if we don't like it...we'll take the L" haha. Long story short-- IT WAS SOOOO GOOOOD. If you're here and open to trying new dishes, I'd highly recommend the banh beo! They also brought it out quickly. SHRIMP ROLLS: This was our first time receiving lettuce wraps and veggies to wrap our shrimp rolls in...of allll the pho restaurants we've been to. So when they brought this around, we were like "OH"? They also served it with an orange sauce that they make in-house. I'm not sure what it was...but DAMN THAT WAS GOOD, TOO! SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS: Yeah, the average spring roll...delicious as always. BUT THE SAUCE?! 12/10. And finally... THE PHO: Fresh. Hot. Tasty. Did I mention hot? It was steaming for a whileeee. Solid pho. Sitting there looking over the expansive menu, it was pretty clear by the number of take-outs that this place really connects with the community. There was almost an endless stream of people coming in to get their food and take it home. There are a ton of new things to try. Prices are extremely reasonable and the service is prompt and polite. I didn't stray off the beaten path, going with a traditional bowl of pho with rare beef and beef flank. Even still, I wasn't disappointed. The broth was flavorful and the meat was tasty. Really enjoyed my meal and would definitely come here again. My fiance got a bowl of beef broth pho and wasn't super enthused with what appeared to be beef liver. She said there was more of a fishy flavor to her broth that was missing from mine. In the end, we agreed my traditional pho order was right on point and that would be both of our orders next time. read more
