I recently ordered the caramelized pork from Be U, hoping to indulge in some comforting Vietnamese flavors. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. For around $18, the meal came with two eggs and what I can only describe as rubbery pork. While the eggs were decent, the meat was a huge letdown. It had an off-putting texture that made me question whether it was an older or inferior cut. The taste was overwhelmingly salty--more like salted pork than the sweet, rich flavor I was expecting from caramelized pork. To top it off, I spent over $40 something dollars for my meal and for Postmates delivery to the South Bay, which makes this disappointment even harder to swallow. I'm not sure I'd order from Be U again unless someone else is footing the bill. I really wanted to enjoy this meal, but sadly, it fell short of my expectations. Food was pretty good, but everything was just okay. Service was quite slow. Some seating in a little outdoor area next to it. Very limited street parking, but it's possible. Not the most authentic, just okay-good Viet food that you have to be alright waiting a bit for. Summer rolls - these are huge, which makes sense for the price. The peanut sauce is also really good - love that there's a little spice. I'd order this again. Mango, cucumber & mint salad - I guess you can't say they didn't warn you. There's not much else in this salad. Just make this yourself. Vietnamese coffee - strong, more coffee flavor than condensed milk. Sparkling limeade - this was quite good. For context for the rest of my review: I'm Vietnamese, so I, obviously, have high standards for Vietnamese food. Really wanted to root this place on but I was not impressed unfortunately. These bánh mìs were not good. The bread was fine. I'd say it was on par with a Lee's Sandwiches or a bánh mì shop of that caliber. However, all toppings missed the mark. The pate was bland, and I ordered extra, at that. Pickled veggies were not pickled enough. The pork was probably the most egregious offense. It had the slightest hint of fish sauce and lemongrass but was bland other than that. Each slice was also cut way too thick. Service is N/A because it's a little window pick up sitch in a small little store right in Silverlake. Popcorn chicken was probably the saving grace of this meal, though it could've been cut a bit smaller and battered in more starch so it'd get crispier, but flavor was on point. read more

I've ordered multiple times from this place and they ALWAYS drop the ball. I just got two Bahn Mi sandwiches and the meat is COLD. As if they just took it out of the refrigerator. The drive from the restaurant to my home is 7 minutes away. There is no reason the meat should be this cold. I'm now heating up the meat on my stove. What is the point of ordering delivery if I have to cook the food when it arrives? Also the bread of one of the Bahn Mi sandwiches was old & stale while the other was fresh. This place obviously precooks their meat and the workers don't care at all when they assemble orders. The last few times I've ordered I received the wrong items completely. Street parking was good for lunch on a weekday. I tried both the popcorn chicken and the lemongrass chicken banh mi. The lemongrass chicken bahn mi was SOOO good. I was worried the chicken would be bland or dry but it was neither of those things! It was very flavorful, juicy, and had a good char flavor to it. I really liked the dressing sauce on the banh mi - so addicting. I also liked the generous amounts of cilantro, jalapenos, pickled carrots/daikon and cucumbers. The bread was chewy and delicious where it held all the ingredients well. The popcorn chicken was juicy and flavorful! While it's not my fave, this spot is up there. I had really high hopes for this place. The reviews were great and the vibe of the place feels like the food would be good. You walk up to order and they have a small seating area to the left. The person at the counter just yells out the names as the food is ready. It gives a neighborhood old school vibe. However I didn't like my pork bahn mi. Recently stopped by this place to grab a sandwich (banh mi) and some coffee. But first, I just want to say that this business is exemplary of the businesses that I really love supporting. It doesn't hurt that they make some really tasty Vietnamese comfort classics! But yeah, Chef Uyen Le and the Be U team is one of the first restaurants that stepped up and provided meals for first responders and evacuees during the 2025 LA wildfires. They received some recognition from some publications, but were left off the list of some as well. For an already hard to operate climate for restaurants at the moment, these small restaurants that take care of their community should be celebrated and supported by their community as well! Okay, stepping down from my soapbox, the coffee was very delicious and strong. It definitely hit the spot and gave me the caffeine that I needed. The sandwich I ordered was soo good as well. I ordered the braised pork belly and egg banh mi with dip - this sandwich was inspired by LA's own Phillipe the Original's French dip sandwiches. Evacuated from Altadena due to the Eaton Fire, my family found ourselves in the wonderful land of Silverlake. My online reconnaissance for vegan grub had Bé Ù popping up everywhere. Tired and hungry as hell, I called in an order for anything vegan that sounded good on the menu. And woooh, boy. I have nothing but praise. From the front, it's a kitchen with an open Dutch door. That's it. There is no indoor seating and you don't go in at all, but I think theres a patio in the back. And the number of people milling about that open door tells you that Bé Ù is doing big things. We tackled the Tofu Banh Mi, Mango/Cucumber/Mint Salad, Bap Nuong (grilled street corn), and the Summer Rolls, and every damn thing had us wide-eyed mumbling "mmmmmm.." through big bites. Incredibly satisfying, both on a flavor level and filling, and each dish was completely doing its own thing. Not only was the food incredible, but Bé Ù is run by some pretty terrific human beings. They had a big sign up in the window that said free meals for evacuees and first responders. When they heard we were stranded because of the fires, they said to hit them up next time for a meal on them. We did, and they hooked us up with the three things we asked for, plus they tossed in some fried Jalapeño Salt &Pepper Oyster Mushrooms on top of it, which were SO DAMN GOOD. All in all, we tried six vegan options, and I'd order every single one again and again. The grilled street corn was rolled around in a vegan aioli, peanuts, and fried shallots. Serious comfort food. Vietnamese elote, basically. Or is elote basically just Mexican Bap Nuong? Deep thoughts.. The Mango/Cucumber/Mint salad was so much more than it sounded thanks to the sour and spicy dressing. The banh mi and tofu rice noodle plates were exactly what they sounded like and executed on point. Summer rolls, give me those every day, and those fried mushrooms.. ohhhh the mushrooms... Across the board, the ingredients were fresh and vibrant, cooked perfectly, and the balance of everything was dead on. I don't know when we'll be back in Silverlake, but I promise one thing. When we are driving through, or even remotely close, a stop at Bé Ù is here by declared to be on that future agenda. And I can't thank their crew enough for looking out for the community. While I don't visit very often, I've enjoyed the meals I've ordered at Bé Ù! I usually get takeout though I noticed recently that they have a small seating area near the main window. Ordering via their website is straightforward, and I've never had to wait very long for my food to be ready. I've tried their bahn mi more than once and thought it was solid. I got the lemongrass pork filling and thought there was a good quantity of meat that was balanced well with the jalapeño, cucumber, carrot, and pickled radish. I liked their popcorn chicken in the past, so I recently tried their jalapeńo salt and pepper version; while I loved the crispy fried texture, I found the flavor profile to be one note and somewhat bland even with the grassy element provided by the sliced pepper and the side of salt and pepper provided with the order. We love everything about Be U! Our food was delicious! As a family of 5, with our 3 little girls, we ordered 1 Lemongrass Chicken Noodle Plate, 1 Grilled Pork Banh Mi, and 1 Another Cluckin' Chicken Sandwich to share. Everything was savored and devoured. Then Chef Uyen brought us out the most beautiful Albacore Tuna dressed with Yuzu, micro greens, lychee, and this incredible dipping. Chef Uyen is experimenting with new recipes for specials and shared it with us. She told us where they source the tuna and how she prepares it. Our girls listened with rapt attention. The whole bottle of fish sauce is under $10 at the super market. Even though they have a seating area, it was small and too sunny. Uncomfortable. Rather than judge the "authenticity" of the flavors, I want to focus my update on the tastiness of the flavors, the generous portions, and the wonderful customer service. Super fresh ingredients light and filling honestly beef was really good but im not sure if it paired well with the noodles that much, I would recommend chicken for future use. She recommended the BBQ corn and their Vietnamese beef bowl. I hesitated for a second at the $26 total, but once the food hit the table it all made sense... Let's start with the corn. One word: insane. I wasn't expecting this level of flavor. It's grilled corn coated in a rich, spicy mayo with a little butter, green onions, what looked like black sesame seeds, and topped with crispy fried shallots or garlic crumbles. Everything about it was messy, creamy, crunchy, and perfect. This might honestly be the best corn I've ever had. Ever. I was licking my fingers like it was the last meal I'd eat. Now the beef bowl. This thing was loaded. Sliced beef--super tender--sitting on a bed of vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, crispy shallots, green onions, and a light, tangy dressing that brought the whole thing together. There were also fresh veggies like lettuce, cucumber, purple perilla leaves, and pickled carrots--probably a built-in salad component, and it worked beautifully. My only note is that the meat was warm, not hot, but I think that's on me for taking too long to dive in after that corn. By the time I was through, the line was deep--people picking up bags, more folks ordering. You could tell this spot is a favorite. I ordered the vegan banh mi sandwich and it was pretty good. The ingredients looked fresh, the bread was my favorite part, (the perfect banh mi bread!), oh and the cucumbers! but I do feel like it was overly salty once I got to the second half of the sandwich and that the tofu could've had more of a bite to it (was mushy, which is unfortunate as tofu has a lot of potential). Something that stood out to me was how much of the carrot part they put in? It really filled the sandwich which usually I'm for but I think it may have contributed to it being so salty. It does take awhile to get your order compared to a typical fast food joint (some people waiting even went back to ask if their order was done yet) so don't expect it to be that quick.
