Unfortunately concerning Pristine we were met with resistance and denial. The representative went straight to saying they shouldn't do a heat pump, due to the lack of floor insulation. This didn't make sense to us, as three other companies already reviewed the home and claimed otherwise. However the representative from Pristine seemed to not want to hear that, and after a bit of back and forth said the words "I guess we aren't the company you want to go for". They made the decision for us, which is odd considering we were only trying to purchase more than a standalone furnace. Maybe it was a miscommunication somewhere but it's clear from the rep that they didn't want our business. Edit: Further reduced score based on the reply from the company including false truths, never once did we claim that what the representative had said was "B.S." and to be clear they never said nor verified the home was insulated properly. The claimed the floors needed to be insulated, which was debunked by other companies as heat rises, and floor insulation does very little in terms of holding the homes heat. Poor response taking no real responsibility.

We should have gotten the ducts cleaned before installing an in-duct booster fan, but we didn't think of it, so we needed the cleaners to be extra careful with their rotating brushes in that area. They came out 3-2-26. [I deleted the rest of my review, but the photos can' be deleted - they show dirt that showed up on our filter 2 months later. Capitol Duct came out again right away and took care of everything. NOTE to others - if something goes wrong, call them before posting a bad review.]

Whatever the brush's origin, their original service demonstrably failed to clear the duct. I agreed to pay again anyway, just to get it resolved. I was told a manager would call me first to discuss it. No one called. I waited for the scheduled technician instead; no one showed. When I followed up, I learned the office had canceled the appointment without telling me. I rescheduled a third time, and to avoid any confusion, I emailed a photo of the brush along with the access details (about 10 feet in, no crawlspace) and asked them to confirm they could do the job at the agreed price. The email went unanswered. When I called, I was assured the office had seen it, reviewed the photo, and confirmed the job and price. Two weeks later, the technicians arrived -- 90 minutes early, before I was ready -- with no idea they were there to remove a stuck brush. After using about 15 minutes of my time, they concluded they couldn't remove it after all. I told them to leave and hired someone else. Across three separate appointments and every point of contact -- the initial cleaning a year ago, the manager callback, the scheduled visit, the confirmed job -- Capitol Duct Cleaning did not follow through on a single commitment it made. The backstory: my family and I were in Alaska when the PNW had a big freeze and our pool heat pump condenser and above ground pipes froze and burst. No one was able to come to our home for a couple weeks due to all the other customer priorities dealing with the aftermath of the storm. I completely get it...a pool is not a priority when others are without heat. So our son purchased and installed a new condenser to get the pool water flowing to avoid frozen water in the pool cracking our pool walls and creating a much bigger problem! Our next challenge was to find a way to purchase and install a highly regulated refrigerant requiring a license and special tools. We soon learned that DIYing the refrigerant to get the heat pump working was not possible. For over three years I called different service companies asking for help - pool service companies such as Aquaquip who originally sold and installed the unit, and AquaCal; a different AquaCal, the manufacturer of the pool heat pump; other dozens of other HVAC contractors too numerous to mention except I will mention my serious disappointment with South Sound Plumbing with whom we spend a lot of money annually to service our other home heat pumps. After 30 different phone calls none would help us. "Too risky they" said, "wouldn't be able to warranty the work" said others. The truth? Our problem was simply too small a job or didn't fit their known expertise. Northwest was willing to help (BTW they showed up on the top of a list of HVAC contractors during my ChatGPT co-thinking session). I'm so grateful to Darlene (who took my call and listened with compassion to my unusual problem. I'm grateful to Zane, Northwest's Service Manager, who spent time deeply listening, brainstorming an approach, and getting someone out to our home. Finally, heartfelt kudos to Nate, our HVAC tech wizard, who successfully got our pool heat pump heating water! Yahoo! They failed to install proper vibration pads, which I can understand, but it really should be corrected. At the next service appointment, I reported the issue expecting it to be fixed. Unfortunately, they've since consistently delayed and outright refused to fix the problem. I followed up at least 5 times - each time being told I'll get a call back. Thankfully the issue isn't having a big impact on the heat pump itself, but it is disappointing that they've failed to honor their service contract.

tldr - if it's related to HVAC, call the installer of your HVAC system if possible…read more I called Green Bear to take a look at an HVAC system (on second floor) that was leaking water on the 1st floor ceiling (due to AC condensation). They sent someone over, who didn't really open the HVAC system panel much. I didn't seem confident that this would fix it. But they recommended to fix the drain pan inside the evaporator coil box, which they said was much more expensive. For clearing the drain pipe and gluing a loose pipe, which didn't actually fix the main problem, they still billed me $300 - diagnostic fee ($99) + 1 hour ($199) - (there's a 3% credit card fee, but they accept checks) 4 or 5 hours later, there was dripping again. I ended up calling Bob's, they sent 2 technicians who knew what they were doing (they opened the panel properly), they found and fixed the issue - it did not involve replacing a drain pan. Bob's only charged me the diagnostic fee of $175 and did the job right (compared to $300 that Green Bear charged)
