The spicy seasoning with the shrimp and crab was amazing. Not overly fake butter tasting with a comfort spice level for me and plenty of good flavor besides the spice. The corn, egg, and potatoes were a little overcooked but they were still superbly seasoned. My partner's krab platter was a little less impressive, only because the lemon pepper seasoning was weaker than we would like. If it had come with some lemon wedges, we would have been over the moon. We will likely be returning!

This may just be me, but my sauce didn't taste like much other than pepper. I was expecting more lemon taste, even more butter taste, and the sauce I got did not deliver. The sausage was also meh. However, I enjoyed the corn, potatoes, and the crab was so well cooked that it came out in big chunks almost every time. I also felt like I got good value. The atmosphere felt just a tad dingy and we did wait a LONG time for our food, nearly an hour. So while I enjoyed my meal to an okay degree, I don't feel the largest inkling to return. I felt a very large letdown with the sauce I chose. My bf on the other hand noted that he would be interested in coming back and trying something else.

But, we wanted to find out what it was like for ourselves, so we decided to pay them a visit for a birthday dinner. The dining area is open and large enough to accommodate lots of diners, although on a weekday evening we practically had the whole place to ourselves. Speaking of being a weekday evening, cocktails were half price for happy hour, which meant the first order of business was getting a margarita. Now it may not have been the best one I've ever had, but it certainly was one of the strongest! I definitely got my money's worth there. They have a $25 appetizer and entree combo that seemed like a good deal as well, so I decided to go that route. I chose hush puppies and jambalaya from a list of about half a dozen dishes. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and all around tasty. The jambalaya was hearty and well seasoned. I don't think I have ever had one with as much shrimp, sausage and chicken either. Again, it was well worth the price. One of my friends, who also went with the combo, got the house salad as an appetizer and it was big enough to be a meal in itself. In fact, everyone was impressed with the size of their meals. We were equally impressed with the quality and flavor. My youngest son is notoriously picky, and even he loved the food. Our server was as sweet as she could be. She actually didn't know we were there to celebrate a birthday, so I can only assume that she's always that nice. It was such a great experience overall that we are already looking forward to returning and trying more of their dishes.

Blackened chicken po'boy, lunch special boil with shrimp and potatoes, both perfectly seasoned. Hush puppies were on the small side but crispy, tender inside, and delicately spiced. Just fabulous. Great service too! Will come again.

Each time I have come I've enjoyed something from the Chalkboard which has been totally different both times and neither selection disappointed! Here are a few specifics Wait time :5/5 Minutes. Came at a golden hour of 5:30p and didn't have to wait. Service: 5/5 Greeted immediately and served primarily by Ian, but had several of the other guys being willing to help us out. Everyone had a pleasant "how can I help you?" demeanor. Selection: 4/5; some farm raised, some fresh. My only catch would be determining a way to offer at least one or two more fresh water options. Food quality: 4.5/5. My dish was delicious but the dirty rice, as reported by one of the people in my party, had a strange aftertaste. Wife loved the options! Portion size: the standout for this one was the generous kids portion for my son's fish sticks and rice. My portion could've been an ounce or two larger. Big pro: Plenty of options for someone who is on a gluten free or restricted diet. Would I go back: 100% Despite a couple of marks that were just shy of a "5", I'm rating it with 5 stars based on consistency in experience and quality of food.

Ordered a grilled cheese/brisket sandwich, fries and a small draft Michelob Ultra. Bartender said it'd be 10 minutes, took 20. 16 bucks for the sandwich and fries and 11 bucks for the small dixie cup of beer. Brisket tasted like Sam's Club pre cooked brisket. Slice of fake cheese and oil soaked bread. Took 2 bites and covered it up like it was dead. It was gross. Fries were cold. Beer was cold but only got four drinks out of the cup! Paid 27 bucks for a sandwich and small drat beer. I don't mind paying for quality food and service. Bartenders were all huddled together talking about who knows what. Not attentive. I refuse to pay 11 bucks for a small cup of draft beer. But I did, I drank it. Place was cool looking. Must have spent a fortune on the building out and left no budget for quality food. I see these new places open up and not last too long. In today's current situation, be fair. Build your customer base. I can't see this place lasting much longer.I won't be back and I encourage you to ask what the beverages cost before you order at this place. Beware.
