Reminiscent of a European pub with its open-air setting and cozy atmosphere. The plethora of books lining the shelves & vintage typewrite emit a literary vibe. Manager Chip was an absolute doll - greeting us with a friendly welcome and making us feel at home. George is skilled at his craft and will whip you up a cocktail or mocktail that will undoubtedly cure what ails you. Happy Hour features $2 off drinks & appetizers and $8 wells. Specialty craft cocktails pay homage to authors or literary works. Craft beer & classic pub fare in addition to creative chef creations are also available. I'm a cocktail snob and will judge a place based on the glassware used and the ability to properly make a classic, so I ordered the Hemingway Daiquiri. It was appropriately presented in a coupe glass and was perfectly balanced - not too tart & not too sweet. George knocked it out of the park. You order at the bar and your drink/food are brought to your table. We shared the Inkwell Fries, which were cooked to perfection. Hot, thick, crispy edges, & a pillowy soft interior. They were lightly sprinkled with sea salt & fine herbs. The side of ranch was the perfect accompaniment. The fries were served in a copper cylinder, which added some finesse to the overall presentation. Came in for a little happy hour birthday get together with some gal pals and had such a lovely time! Great mocktails and drinks, excellent service, and I loved the vintage-writer vibes - think Poe meets Hemingway meets old Hollywood - super fun! First time here. Didn't know what to expect. Walking in, you enter a modern, comfortable restaurant and bar. Once seated you are greeted and given menus. You order at the bar. We started with a couple of beers and then got a Brussels Sprouts Salad and a double smash burger. The salad was excellent and the burger was "oh my gawd" delicious! We ordered the beef tallow fries, which were good, if maybe a tad too saucey on the garlic aioli, and the fries were a tad TOO crispy. We also had the truffle infused burrata salad, which had more greens and cantaloupe than burrata. It was just HALF a burrata and we definitely did NOT taste any essence of truffle in it. Somewhat disappointing for $17 a plate. The winning dish was the baked mac n cheese with garlic shrimp -- the shrimp was perfectly cooked and the mac was cheesy and tasty. Would def order again! I had heard about this place a few years ago and had been wanting to try it. Last night (3/8/24) I finally did. It has a cute literature motif and the drinks are named after authors or literary things. Inkwell Tavern was created to celebrate writers. It's an upscale gastropub specializing in craft cocktails, craft beer, a rotating wine selection, and a chef driven menu. An homage. Burbank has a deep rich history in the world of TV and film production and they truly created a place where local writer, actor, production friends could sit and have a drink and food after a long day on set. It is not uncommon to see writers sitting with a laptop and working on the next great feature or series. My friend and I got a few drinks and shared the Beef Tallow Waffle Fries (Fennel-garlic roast pork, garlic aioli, chimichurri). As I do not eat red meat, I had some of the fries and they were wonderful!. To drink, I asked for them to surprise me with something sweet and while I do not know what they called it, it was tropical and perfect. My friend got a couple Mules and a Collins. I absolutely love the neighborhood bar vibe at this place! This is a great small bar to drop into just outside of downtown Burbank. This bar is next to a Mexican restaurant on the corner and across the street from Trader Joe. I Experienced this bar for my very first time last Saturday night and it was a happening place at 8pm! All ages were enjoying themselves at this place! You can curl up to the bar or grab a booth if you are with a group! Not only does this place have great cocktails! They also have good food! I tried their hamburger with their special sauce. No ketchup was needed said the staff: and he was right! They even have veggie burgers! They also have cheese/meat boards for sharing! Great to go to a bar with quality food! The service was great! There were at least three bartenders that all took good care of their customers! Plus great dining area staff! I appreciate the attentive staff! As for price: totally fair prices! Cocktails were 12-15 dollars. They also have happy hour where you can get a slight discount on drinks and food! Never thought i'd be at a bar playing MLB on one channel and breaking dawn on another, but I am here for it. Absolutely love the literary theme of the bar and the very creative craft cocktail menu. All the cocktails are very sophisticated and probably not for those who want AMFs and other sweet drinks but i'm sure they would make you whatever you wanted. You grab a seat and someone will come bring you a menu and a water, but you do order at the bar. Everyone seems very friendly though, they also have a few community board games at bar top. My steak stir fry was soooooooo good! The juicy bell peppers, the flavorful onions, the perfectly soaked french fries from the tender steak was everything I needed. We got to the wrong bar on the corner because their sign was not lit up and when we got in all the seats were reserved because it was trivia night and when we found a seat in the far side of the bar, it was noisy, and there was a small child that kept yelling and screaming, and his parents would not quiet him. We stopped in on a Saturday night on a recommendation of our daughter. It's in a great location in Burbank and open late. Just like a neighborhood bar with literary decor. I love the rows of books on the walls and author quotes in the restroom. It was busy but we were seated right away. We had to place our order at the bar and then the waitstaff brought everything to our table. I ordered a Gimlet (Vodka, Lime, Simple Syrup) for a cocktail, simple and refreshing. We had the Inkwell fries for an appetizer which are amazing! I split the Peruvian Steak Stir Fry with my mother in law, so good and everything in it just worked together. My husband had the skirt steak frites and the chimichurri sauce was spot on! We didn't need it but we also ordered dessert! We had the cast iron chocolate cake and cheesecake which was the dessert of the month. Both were delicious and I really liked the creaminess of the cheesecake. By far my favorite cocktail bar. I enjoy a good drink and good food. This location has both. They have never disappointed me. They are serious about their cocktails and a lot of their ingredients for the cocktails are made in house. For those that don't know, a cocktail is much better with fresh ingredients. Meaning, they don't use garbage like premixed margaritas mix, bottled lime juice or bottled ginger syrup. All made in house. A great place. I like going on their slow days. There's no real waiters, so you'll have to get up from time to time. I usually order more stuff as they come to bring me more drinks or food. They baked Brie is a must try. They also have steak with chimichurri on top of fries. Woow. I enjoyed everything. My go to drink is the Turn the Page and Oxford Comma. It's nice and intimate when it's not busy. Let me say this loud and clear: the burger is the absolute best thing about this place -- hands down. I'll say it again because it deserves it -- the burger is amazing. That alone keeps me coming back, and they also make a seriously good martini. A couple things to note: parking can be a bit tricky at times, and the atmosphere isn't always my vibe -- the giant TVs with sports on full blast and the occasional super-loud karaoke nights (especially on Mondays) can be a bit much for me. But if you're here for the burger and a well-made drink, you're in for a treat. Just maybe bring some earplugs on karaoke night. read more
