I love this place- it's usually pretty crowded so ordering at the bar can be a pain, but the food is great and they have an awesome selection of beers. Just had an unfortunate experience. I love this place. Really. The ordering system just sucks. You have to be super patient and if other people are dicks there's no one that's going to help you. I was in a long line and the 2 girls in front of me let 2 girls that they were with cut. The guy behind me and the woman behind him exchanged glances with me but whatever. Just as the bartender is getting the last of the 2 girl's their drink, their friend walks up. And I just say to her, "do not cut. Your friends just did. Don't do it again." She says she's not and asks like it's her first day on earth. Then .3 seconds later her friend that was getting her drink orders on behalf of the girl that just stepped in front. And I say, "I just said don't do that and you just did it". And she denied that she was doing it. So I look at the bartender and I say, "they've cut multiple times." To which he raises his hand with a sort of like, "I only work here" shrug and I walked off. It was so rude. The service is so bad. Went in about 12:30 pm so I ordered myself the burger special. I got the backyard burger, my husband ordered the French dip sandwich and my son ordered the laurel burger. Our specials came with fries and a soda or beer for $16. That's an amazing deal. We also ordered the Louisiana grilled wings for an appetizer. Wow the burgers were made perfect medium well and wings were so tasty. The French onion sandwich was nicely toasted but also soft. The meat was very tender and delicious. Cool spot for a drink. There's a slight upscale dive bar vibe indoors and a cute laid back vibe patio area. Both have a good amount of seating options with friendly staff. Didn't try any food this time since we had a dinner resi elsewhere. From what I sneaked a peak at as they were passing by me it looked and smelled good . It's located on a busy main road so parking can be touch to find . There is valet right in front for $12 that is open till midnight and they're super nice guys. I had lunch here yesterday with hubby, and it was just ok.... First off the parking situation is terrible unless you want to pay for valet...no thanks. The bartender that made my drink and took our order was great, she was very pleasant...my drink was beautifully presented but was alright. To be honest all the food we ordered looked great upon arrival ( which was pretty quick) but it all lacked flavor, very bland. I always love coming here! It's a super cute spot with a lot of outdoor seating - the only down fall is they usually have events so some of them are reserved. Their HH menu is small but good! I usually get the fried chicken salad, which is always amazing. Last night I tried the chicken sliders and spinach artichoke dip. The sliders were phenomenal!!! The spinach artichoke dip was kinda meh? Like it was good but not juicy/creamy lol it was pretty thick. Parking sucks - it's valet or street parking. Surprisingly my very first time at Laurel Tavern! Not too difficult to find metered street parking not too far away on Ventura Blvd. Did a loop inside and outside and on a beautiful day with ample outdoor seating decided to grab a table outside after ordering some drinks at the bar. We opted for the laurel sprtiz and a blonde beer - spritz was made just right and so refreshing. For food we ordered a couple shareables to snack on - tavern nachos, pork belly skewers and fried chicken sliders. Honestly each option was better than the last, I'm not even a big pork fan but the skewers were excellent. By the time we were ready to close out the bill, the bar was much more packed by lucky another staff member saw us waiting and was able to expedite our wait and get us out. Really liked this place. Walked here with a friend who lives in the area. Sat on the patio as I did bring my little pup with me. Felt very welcoming. If you're sitting outside you do go in and order from the bar, but the ladies at the bar were efficient and attentive. All the staff was very friendly. Drinks were fun and unique, and the food was pretty good. You can even order something for your dog. Parking can always be an issue in this area. My friend lives on Laurel Canyon so we just walked a few blocks over. The vibe is good here for a date night, or just general friend hang out. Been wanting to come here for a while now. Had to valet ($10) since we couldn't find street parking. Found a table inside - you just seat yourself. They have QR codes on the tables to link you to the menu or they have it on chalkboards on the walls. Then you have to go to the bar to order your drinks and food. I didn't love this part. There's not really a line - you just have to kind of stand 2-3 deep at the bar trying to figure out who is next. That being said, we got helped pretty quickly - not a long wait. The bartender who took our order was very friendly. They make the drinks right there and then so you don't have to wait for those. Then they take your food order (or at least that's how it happened for me). They ask you if you want your tab open or closed. They give you one of those plastic numbers to put on your table. Got our order in about 15 mins or so. We ordered: Backyard burger - simple and delicious. Buttery bun that was toasted, shredded lettuce, 1000 island, cheese. Not too big. Fries - gotta order these separately. Doesn't come with the burger. We got garlic parm but they were kinda meh. Would get plan fries next time. Served with cup of ketchup. Turkey club- excellent. Has avocado on it. Could have used a bit more mayo according to my partner. Side salad - simple. comeswith a nice kinda sweet vinaigrette. Would recommend the Bloody Mary. I'm re-writing a review I wrote yesterday, because I was too harsh. Still, if I could give zero stars, that's would I would do. I don't know if there's been a change in management and/or ownership, of if they just stopped caring, but Laurel Tavern hasn't "gone downhill." It's fallen off a cliff. Living in walking distance, it's been our favorite local watering hole for years, always dependable for good gastropub food and a great selection of beers and wine, but those days are obviously over. Over the years we've probably stopped in at least 2 - 4 times/month, but we'd been out of town a lot the last 6 weeks or so, so this was our first visit since early or mid-June. After a long hike yesterday we eagerly decided to drop in at "our place." What a mistake - it ain't our place anymore. Yesterday it was just awful. We had the Brussels Sprouts, which were served soaked in like half a gallon of what seemed like a Teriyaki sauce from a bottle you'd get at Vons. The spicy fries were not spicy, but were ridiculously salty, and the tub of ketchup they came with was only half full, as if they're trying to cut corners. The basket of fries was at least half filled with small remnants of fries that usually are found just at the bottom of a serving. We ordered a veggie melt with Jalapenos. What arrived was some cold vegetables thrown on a doughy, untoasted roll, and somehow the Jalapenos didn't make it to the sandwich. Also concerning was that our food arrived less than five minutes after we sat down, which makes me think it was already sitting on a counter and wasn't freshly prepared. I always order IPAs (unless we're drinking wine), and I'm pretty unfussy. Long as it's cold I'm happy. For about the last year or so whenever at Laurel Tavern I'd order Boont. They didn't have it yesterday, so the barmaid suggested Energen. She offered me a taste, and after an 8-mile hike the first sip was fine, so I ordered it, but it was awful. (My mistake - she DID give me a free sample, and I did order it.....but it sucked. And I RARELY say any beer "sucks.") As a preference before we go to restaurants I'll transfer some cash to my Apple cash account - I prefer using Apple Pay that way instead of credit cards or cash. So yesterday, knowing we'd only stop in for a beer and a quick bite I transferred $100 to Apple Cash. When I paid the tab ($60), the barmaid said that somehow the payment went to "pre-auth" (never heard of that before), and asked me to run it through again, saying the first transaction would automatically reverse. I agreed, but it didn't, so I wound up 1) being embarrassed at my payment being "declined," and 2) not being happy since the first try did not automatically reverse, meaning that my Apple Cash balance wasn't sufficient for the entire tab and I had to split the tab, with other patrons watching, between my Apple cash account and a credit card. (The first payment STILL has not reversed, 24 hours later....so I'll probably be stopping in tomorrow to get it addressed.) The vibe also sucked, and that was probably the most disappointing thing. We've been coming here for years, bringing friends and family for a fun afternoon on the patio, and whenever I order, whether I know the bartender or not, we'll make a little small talk, just engage on a human level. I didn't recognize any of the staff behind the bar yesterday, and there was none of that interaction. Might as well have gone to a drive-thru. It's sad. I'm sure local "influencers" and their don't-know-any-better followings will keep Laurel Tavern busy and crowded, but we used to stop in 3 - 4 times/month and usually plop down $100 - $150 bucks, plus good tips, without thinking about it. Those days are gone. I guess all good things must come to an end. There are too many other places in the neighborhood to be trapped into going to a place that obviously doesn't care about your patronage. So long, Laurel Tavern. Thanks for the memories. read more

We pretty much ordered the whole damn menu to share. We were hungry! We shared the meat & cheese board, pork belly skewers, Louisiana grilled chicken wings, grilled steak salad and an order of LT fries. Everything was good, I think the pork belly skewers were the stand out dish. The pork belly just melted in your mouth, absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the wings, the sauce was not too spicy and had a good zing to it. The steak salad was loaded with ripe avocado and a good portion of meat, tasty as well. The weak link would be the cheese board, it just wasn't very fresh tasting, especially the sliced meats. Drinks were poured well....but ordering can be a bit of a cluster. Everything gets ordered at the bar which gets packed, no real line up, just everyone standing around hoping to get the bar keeps attention. They have ample seating and even during the summer heat wave, the misters and fans kept the outside area enjoyable. Parking is rough, but its Ventura Blvd. We found a spot on a side street and walked on over. read more

I absolutely love this place! I've been coming here for 15 years and it never disappoints. During Covid they opened a little outdoor patio area that is super cute. It has a bunch of communal tables, is dog friendly, tvs for watching the games and a cute little airstream trailer that as their outdoor bar. The inside is darkly lit and can get pretty packed and loud when it gets going but is just as fun. The appetizers have a pretty good range, my favorites being the bacon brussel sprouts, artichoke dip, and ceviche. I'm personally not a huge pretzel fan but my friends all say it's one of the best so if that's your thing I'd recommend that one as well. For entrees the spicy chicken sandwich is really good but my favorite is the backyard burger. They have three type of fries and I was lean towards the garlic Parmesan version. Make sure to ask for them crispy as they can come out a little soggy if you don't. For drinks they have a full bar and limited options for wine. My favorite cocktail is the spicy hibiscus margarita. Stopped by on a Saturday evening with a small group to celebrate a friend's birthday! The space is great - plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It was busy when we arrived. The patio was full so we sat inside which wasn't a problem. You seat yourself and order food/drinks at the bar. They give you a number so they can find you. I ended up ordering the Hickory Burger for myself, and we got the regular and Garlic Parmesan Fries to share with the table. The food came out surprisingly quick! Everyone loved everything. I really enjoyed my first time at Laurel Tavern this past week! I have heard about this place for years and never had a reason to go until now. We had a large group of people getting together from all different parts of the city and decided this was a good central spot to meet. A coworker contacted the venue about a week before and they were kind enough to reserve both a table inside in case it rained and one for us on the outdoor patio, which was our preference. This is a great tip to know if you have a group coming, they seemed more than happy to accommodate any way they could. The location is smack in the center of all the hustle and bustle of Studio City on Ventura Blvd. Because I knew I would be drinking, I did not drive so therefore I cannot speak for how easy parking is around that area. But I have been over there to go to restaurants and for events before and never had a problem parking on the nearby streets. There is both an indoor and an outdoor bar. The outdoor bar is so cute and set up in a mini trailer with plenty of seating all around. It was definitely busy when we were there on a Thursday night. And although the bartender was going as quickly as she could, because of the complexity of the drinks, it seemed to take quite a while to get our libations. She was super friendly though, as was everyone who came over to help us out. Unlike the drinks, the food came out quickly and for the most part was all pretty delicious. We ordered just about every appetizer they had on the menu to see what we would like. Some of the standouts were definitely the queso with tortilla chips, rosemary nuts, fried chicken sliders, edamame hummus and chili lime edamame. Overall if you are looking for a casual spot without pretension then Laurel Tavern is a solid choice. I appreciated the relaxed vibe that seemed almost like a beer garden where everyone was enjoying themselves. The chicken sandwich was very good and the garlic fries totally hit the spot. We had terrible service but I think it was just our waitress, not the establishment as a whole. When our waitress brought the sandwich we asked for a side of ranch and a knife, and these items were never delivered. In fact our waitress did not stop by our table for the rest of the night. But I saw other wait staff checking in on the other tables multiple times throughout the night.
