Thursday early dinner- here's what we liked. * Immediate seating at bar or table. We chose the bar. * The lady that waited on us was nice and attentive. * Good beer selection, really liked they had two reds on their menu. And the beers were good. * Hand battered boneless chicken breast as very god. Would get again for sure. Big chunks of meat and light batter and a Buffalo sauce that was tasty but not all Tabasco. * The poutine fries tasted good. * And the beer flight in served in a neat little book. What could of been better: * The other waitress that just stood at the end of the bar glaring. * The loaded tater tots were not crisp and would fall apart. Kind of mushy. * While the poutine fries tasted good, the fries were big curled potato wedge type things. Not crisp and not quite the right thing for poutine. Overall I would go 3.5 stars. My wife and I stopped in twice while we were staying in the area while visiting family. One of the more interesting innovations there is that they only serve beer that they brew and liquor that they distill. Both times the food and the beverages were very good! We thought their barbecue chicken flatbread was extremely yummy, loaded with Chicken. Both times we sat at the bar. The bar area is rather unique with a carpenter top bar. Our service both times for a little better than average. The only down check were the menus themselves. They could really be replaced. read more

My wife and I were returning from a funeral in the tip of the thumb (Bad Axe / Port Austin) and were taking a relaxing ride home. As a Tag-a-brew collector, we noticed that Innovations Brewing was on our route so we stopped. We came in shortly after noon on a Sunday so we were quite surprised that they were even open, let alone there were other guests in the Tap house. We sat up to the bar (which is our habit when collecting charms) and started a conversation with our server Laura. My wife and I are pretty easy going and Laura opened us up like a can of tuna... next thing you know we're talking about retirement, grandkids, the weather, etc. We ordered a flight to determine what we liked, finished that and ordered a small glass and an appetizer. Everything was amazing. The beer was COLD, the app was well prepared and tasty and the company was certainly enjoyable. When it came time to leave, we asked to purchase our Tag-a-brew charm and Laura apologetically informed us that they had just reordered and the tags hadn't arrived yet. Disappointed but, not the first time we've run into this, we told Laura that we'd be sure to stop back through because we had such an enjoyable time and pick one up when they arrived. We shared our contact information so that she could let us know when the tags came in. Earlier this week, I received an envelope from Innovators Brewing and inside found my Tag / Charm along with a note from Laura stating "Sorry it took so long but I didn't forget you! Laura from Innovations" Well Laura, we didn't forget you either and we will certainly be back next time we're passing through! read more

So if you like to meander Michigan as my partner and I are apt to do- this is a most excellent spot on the cross of m15/M46. He knew there was something there. With room to park the camper and truck we wondered inside. He smiled as he noticed it was a brewery. We went inside and lots of gears/lightbulb shaped/tin roof etc decor. We opted for the bar with a wonderful sales / bartender. All beers made by them. All alcohol/spirits made by them- their own vodka, tequila, rum, etc. I began with a bloody, had a innovation red amber, and somehow thought I heard that I needed to try their rather "smooth" tequila- and I did. He had a dunkelweissen- and it was good. (All beverages good.) Fortunately the food was as tasty as the beverage. We had the dough balls for an app- queso and tomato dipping sauce (the tomato dipping might have been a smidge better hot). The tomato dipping had a ton of garlic! He had the Nashville hot chicken with sweet potato fries. It wasn't mild and not overly hot- the chicken was great, crunchy coating, and chicken was juicy per his report. I can attest that the fries were yummy. I had the olive Swiss burger sans Swiss (no vegan cheese here) and tots. Wow- now I was approaching maximum capacity and had a solid effort of completing 75% of this large burger. Unfortunately some tots were left behind. Our bartender/sales informed us that they open at 8am for breakfast- holy crap- how can this place get any better!?? Definitely on the coming back list! read more

Stopped here with my brother for a Sunday Dinner and beer flight without reservations and were promptly seated. We had Wisconsin cheese curds for an appetizer that were fantastic. My entree was the shrimp and sausage skewers with two sides. Both were perfectly seasoned and delicious. My brother had the steak bytes that he said he enjoyed. The 4 beer flights served in a book were all good. I got a full pour of the lemon shandy with an added lemon twist to go with my entree. Booth and low top seating in with a speak easy theme. Handicapped access. Fast, friendly staff and service. Definitely a hidden gem and I will be returning. read more

Sat down at the bar and got samples of the west coast IPA and the porter. Both were a bit thin, but the porter did have a pleasant roasty-but-not-too-roasty-nuttiness to it so I got a pint to wash dow my Southwest chicken salad. I can guarantee that if you order this salad, you will not leave hungry. It could easily feed two not-so-hungry folks. Good portions of all the main ingredients. The chipotle ranch dressing served with it definitely has some fire! Apply in small doses until you've hit your heat tolerance. It was generally enjoyable, though the smoked chicken topping it was dry. Tried a small pour of the russian imperial stout for my postif, and found it also quite thin for the style. None of the firm, chewy malt quality the best of those have. While my sampling here was limited, it does seem Innovation could stand to add a little backbone to its beers. read more

This tale begins as all my favorite stories of Americana begin: a meandering road trip with no real agenda, small towns, windmills, and of course the glorification of alcohol. Being far too old and no where near fueled up enough for a gonzo style tell all á la Hunter S. Thompson, I hit the road to grab a couple of beers, maybe some lunch and tag-a-brew. (Tell the ones that need to know, we are headed north....) Out past Frankenmuth, between a little triangular patch of earth where Sanilac Rd, Tressla Rd., and Saginaw Rd. criss-cross and then cross-criss sits this wonderful brewery that should be getting far more attention than it has. (The highway sets the traveler's stage) Parking in their dusty, dirt parking lot there was a giant farmland across the way. In the far distance, spinning giants, windmills pulling in the days catch. The opposite side was a cute little set of homes. Walking in, the brewery is decorated with historical references to the great inventors and inventions thought existence while a touch of steampunk aesthetics. The team who put this together had a great admiration for both the sciences and the science fiction. At times some if it was a bit in your face, but overall just a beautiful place. (Your dreams to catch the world a cage....) First I will start with the beer. That's the reason I hopped in the car in the first place right? They had a nice selection if styles, including Browns, Ambers and stouts. Unlike most breweries they were not IPA heavy. I really enjoyed the Red and the Brown, they were both very easy drinking and traditional in flavor and ABV. What stood out to me was the amber. The flavor spectrum was completely different than what I was typically used to from an amber and it made me take notice. I also was able to try their Juicy ipa and irish stout. The IPA was a bit more fruit forward than I was used to, and the irish stout was delicious. Reminded me of the Nips coffee flavored hard candies. Thoroughly enjoyable, well made beer. Finally, the food. I dare you to study this menu and literally not drool over every item. Not only is there a wide variety of choices, but each item looks more delicious than the next. Being a brewery AND smokehouse, they smoke all their meats in house and seriously everything I saw go by looked delicious. I ordered the po'boy with tots after much deliberation. I really wanted some meats but just wasn't hungry enough to justify such a heavy meal. Let me tell you, I missed out on nothing. This was seriously the best po'boy I've had. Typically shrimp is the main protein, but they used fish tenders that were so perfectly balanced between crunchy and flaky. Decorating and flavoring the this deliciousness was a layer of coke slaw, tomatoes and some sort of aoli which brought out such a delicious flavor I couldn't believe it came from such a simply built sandwich. (My hands they shake, my head it spins...) I seriously can not wait to come back and try more foods on this menu. I'm calculating of it's worth a weekly 90+ minute drive for lunch. That's how good it was to me. It was such a complete experience. Great aesthetics, great food and drink, great service by a friendly and welcoming staff and owner. Go here! We have been on a mission to collect all the tagabrews! Originally, our plan wasn't to come out this far, but he really really liked this place and wanted me to experience it as well. So we hopped in the car and took a ride. It was a chilly, windy, Weds afternoon but hey that won't stop us! The outside of the building is nothing exciting. Just a building. But when you walk in the door the place is so cool! Lots to see. The decor is steam punk which I absolutely love. We made our way over to the bar and were greeted by the cutest bartender. She genuinely seemed like a sweet person. I ordered a flight: Amber, red, brown, and a stout. He just ordered one beer that he said wasn't ready when he was last month. It was an IPA. The flights come in these carved out books! Very unique idea! We ordered Poutine to split. It was delicious. Lots of cheese. Mmmm. I love my cheese! The decor was my by far the best though. There was so much to see! Amazing!! I could definitely see why he loved this place! We will definitely be back! We like to go to the Frankenmuth brewery and they were closed due to Covid (open on weekends only) so we will have to come back for that anyway! On to our next tagabrew location! read more

Very disappointed with our food and service with last nights meal. Terrible service from our waitress. They were very busy and ran out of ribs and pulled pork, not a big deal we just picked brisket and pulled chicken instead. The problem was that the portion size they sent out of the brisket and pulled chicken were so incredibly small. I asked the waitress if two small slices of brisket was the normal portion size (knowing very well it's not because I've ordered it before), she said Yes. You could tell they were running low on other meats and reducing portion size. Which is super frustrating when you're paying full price. What an utter disappointment. Also, this is just being picky, but the table was so full of dirty dishes, our waitress did not take our empty appetizer trays, nor our empty beer glasses or empty dinner trays. The table was packed full of dirty dishes. The waitress also forgot multiple items we ordered. We had to send her back like 3 times just to receive our dinner items. Growing up this building was a older, quite and dark resturant so when I pulled up I had so maybe memories come back to me which was cool! Walked in and sat at the bar! Potential! This place is a destination restaurant, it would be amazing if the staff treated it as such. I called the restaurant an hour or so before I left home as it is 45 minutes away. I verified I did not need a reservation and they were open. When we arrived, with my 80 year old parents, we waited at the "please wait to be seated sign," for what seemed like forever. After about five minutes, a woman sitting at the table closest to the door got up and seated us. Just sat there while my poor mom struggled to stand there. When we were seated we struck out on about four different meals because it was Sunday night and they were out of a lot of stuff. I got the pulled pork meal with mashed and corn bread and it was very good. Others at my table were not so happy with there's, not due to the way it was cooked but all the replacements on the meals they did get. It's a bummer because this place has a great atmosphere. First time I went was near their opening, food was fantastic service was awesome. Went there a couple weeks ago. Place seemed kinda dark and just kinda looked like it's not being kept up. Ordered food which the menu has shrunk from when they were first open. Ordered blue cheese burger and loaded tots. Tots were way over cooked and crunchy throughout, tasted old. Burger tasted like it was a frozen processed patti they threw on the griddle. Burger lacked flavor. Servier brought me the menu, drinks and food. Never returned to check on dinner. The service and food was such that I will never return. Which is sad. I thought it had a lot of potential from when it first opened. read more

Not sure how this has nearly 4 stars, maybe because its in the middle of nowhere with no other options or competition, but when comparing this to other local breweries, especially with kitchens, this experience was horrible. My wife and I wanted to try them as they were in the Hop Passports. We arrived and the building is musty, empty, and dated. We were merely greeted, then seated in a dark back corner table that was filthy. The menus were sticky and gross, and the beer selection was minimal. We each tried a cocktail. My wife's drink was like sipping cough medicine, and mine was coffee with some vodka. We decided to at least try SOMETHING, and got poutine with added brisket. The gravy was DEFINITELY jar based, the fries from frozen, and the brisket was tough and chewy. I don't even want to guess how old it was. We decided to not even order entrees or any more drinks and left. Would definitely NOT go again. read more

I am giving this place a 5 because of the Apple Raspberry Unfiltered. It is the best cider we have ever had. Think of the best juice that you could drink the whole gallon of and times it by 10. They sell growlers of their other beers but this one is not on the growlers list yet. We would of bought multiple growlers to go if it was possible. Whatever you do, do not get the chicken tacos here. Frozen dried chicken and they were not edible. Worst tacos that I ever had. Took two bites and asked for a to go box and threw them in the trash at the Forward gas station in Vassar. Third time I have had food at this place and have been very disappointed with it.
