After…read moremy long-time dentist retired, I gave 3-4 different dentists a chance but they all proved untrustworthy (e.g. telling me I needed expensive procedures I knew I did not need) and/or were ill equipped (e.g. rundown offices with out-of-date equipment). Good luck it was finding Dr. Jin, whose offices and equipment are always state-of-the-art! For example, at the start of the pandemic, she quickly acquired the latest health-safety equipment that enabled her to continue serving her patients without hazard. Her office and its location comes close to "luxurious," as well as just simply lovely, comfortable and convenient (easy access from HWY 680 in San Ramon, fairly near Costco, etc.) For all this, one might anticipate top-of-the-line billing, but no, compared to charges from other dentists dating from 10 years ago, not unreasonable. Especially, considering all the extra expenses I would be paying for the unnecessary procedures that had been proposed - and on one occasion "demanded" if I were to become a patient. I recently dropped my retired-teacher dental insurance and am now on self-pay, which turns out to be cheaper, even given a new crown looming in the future. The courtesy and sincere interest the entire staff shares with you reinforce the comfortable feelings you feel the first time you step into the building itself, even before reaching the office. And an extra plus: highly skilled hygienists...Tiffany, for one, is the best ever ! That being said, all in all, trust is the best feature of Dr. Jin's service -- she trusts you and will work with you to meet your situation and needs. And you can definitely trust her !

Canyon Lakes Dental is spotless--like, "you could eat off the floor" clean (though I didn't test that, promise). Dr. Shilpi Chovatia is hands-down the gentlest and most calming dentist I've ever had. She explains everything clearly, doesn't rush, and somehow makes even dental advice feel encouraging instead of judgmental. No pressure, no upselling--just thoughtful, honest care.     I became a patient at Canyon Lakes Dental based on the excellent reviews here. It was great…read moreinitially, until my family and I started running into consistent issues. My whole family were patients, so this review comes from a couple of years of experience visiting them atleast twice a year times four. 1. When they call to confirm the appointment and you miss the call and call them back, they claimed each time to have not seen any missed calls, nor received any voice mails, nor any text messages sent to them requesting a reschedule. I have proof in my phone's call logs and text messages of having tried to contact them, yet they insist they never heard from me. If it's a tech issue, happening once or twice is understandable, not multiple times! 2. If you can't keep the routine cleaning appointment made 6 months in advance and speak with someone at the front desk, the office staff's routine response is that the next available appointment is 4 months out and they will put you on a waitlist. Their hygienists are always booked months out but if the hygienist can't come in when you have a scheduled appointment, you are expected to accommodate and they will have spots in a couple of weeks somehow. 3. I needed to ask the doc a question about keeping my dental appointment the following week after being prescribed certain meds earlier in the week for an emergent condition. I was told to wait till Tuesday for the doc to come in to answer the question, when the appointment was also on Tuesday. I was told there would be a charge if canceling an appointment on the same day, which is fair only if they can answer questions about whether I can be treated before the appointment day! 4. The reception area reeks of strong perfume/air freshener. When requested to unplug because it's triggering allergies for my daughter and a migraine for me, the response was the scent doesn't bother them. Good for them, but that's supposed to be a common waiting area shared with patients some of whom do mind the scent and have allergies and migraine issues. There seems to be a rotating door for dentists, we have seen the same person maybe twice in a row. Dr. Shilpa Chovatia, you and your dentist colleagues maybe excellent professionals but your front office experience and scheduling challenges leaves a lot to be desired. We will not be returning. EDITED TO ADD (April 7) I got a call from Jocelyn at the office offering to schedule me with Dr. Shilpi Chovatia for a specific time, if I didn't want to be on a cancellation waitlist. This is nice, but at this point, too late. I have had 3 appointments for different family members in the past month that needed to be rescheduled for different reasons, and we were told each time to wait months or get on their cancellation list. I am unwilling to deal with the extra administrative burden it puts on me to coordinate schedules for different family members with this practice and plan to find a more accommodating office where the office staff don't simply say "ok thank you" and hang up on me when I tell them I plan to find a different dentist because scheduling with them is so difficult.

I was a patient in the early years of H2 and they were great. Dr. Seo is a great dentist. But I also think as the practice grew, they began to leave "the little people" behind. What I appreciated about H2 his honesty and fairness. Dr. Seo had told me that I did not need a crown when another dentist had told me so. I so appreciate that. More than his bedside manner, which I thought was excellent, I just appreciated the fact that he and Leslie were straightforward and honest. So we started going to H2. I was thankful that they took my dental Insurance, which at the time was Blue Shield. There didn't seem to be any issues at all at that time, which I know was a while ago. The problem arose when I was told that Blue Shield would not be covering certain services H2 was providing. But rather than giving me this info up front and leaving the decision to me to either pay out of pocket or find a new dentist, which I would have understood, they did the work and told me the insurance wouldn't cover the costs. This led to me having to pay thousands of dollars. They said they were going to give me a "courtesy discount" of $600, but I would still owe thousands. Again, my problem is that I was never given the choice of whether to consider that I would have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket or possibly go to a new dentist because they were no longer taking Blue Shield. I wish I would have been given that option because I couldn't afford paying thousands of dollars. So after a year, I just paid off the final bill. Despite the good care, there seemed to be a bait and switch. As their staff said, if we had been with a large company such as Apple or Microsoft, we'd be fine. But having small business insurance isn't so great. Again, I understand, but like the dentist I currently have who tells me my costs UP FRONT, I wish they would have done the same. So the lesson is, big company with big insurance is great. Small business or personal insurance, avoid H2.

I was treated with so much respect and dignity. They didn't shame me for having a lapse in dental coverage or poor coverage. The facility looks like a beautiful, luxe spa. Pro tip: their bathroom definitely has a fun vibe and sweet speakers if you need to take a moment to freshen up before you're called into your appointment! The out-of-pocket price for my exam, x-rays and extraction were quite fair. They are transparent about you're paying for and show you exactly what you'll pay before they perform anything. They also offer a discount/membership plan, but I haven't subscribed yet. Special thanks to Zach, who is super friendly and helped me understand everything before my extraction. Mina did a fantastic job helping me understand my x-rays before I met with Dr. Choi, who extracted my very angry tooth. Although no one enjoys such things, I must say that the whole experience far surpassed my expectations. Everyone I've met is so kind and helpful. A week after the extraction I was worried that I might have dry socket, (I didn't) but thankfully Dr. Choi was able to fit me in to follow-up and prescribe some antibiotic mouthwash to help with the pain and swelling as my gum healed. Weeks later, my extraction site is looking healthy and I have zero pain.

The appointment was scheduled weeks in advance, and I even called the office on the morning of the visit to reconfirm. On the day of the appointment, I pulled my daughter out of her flag football practice and we arrived before at 4:10 PM but we went in the office next door (which is also called Gale Ranch Family Dental, but the Orthodontic entrance is separate). To our surprise, the office was locked even though we could see people inside. We knocked repeatedly and waited outside in the heat for about 5 minutes before someone finally came out. Instead of apologizing, she rudely accused us of being late--even though it was only 4:13 PM and we had already been waiting outside. When I explained that the door was locked and we had been there, she changed her story and said the orthodontist had already left for the day. I reminded her that I had called earlier to confirm the appointment, but she dismissed me and claimed no new patient appointments were ever scheduled that late in the day. Her tone was condescending and unprofessional, as if we had inconvenienced her rather than the other way around. No one ever followed up to clarify the situation or to reschedule. If this is how they treat new patients, I can only imagine the experience after signing up. Extremely unprofessional and discourteous--I strongly recommend avoiding this office.

This dental practice is great, they gave us an electronic toothbrush at my first appointment and offers replacement head every follow up appointment. Dr. Wong and the staff at Tassajara Dental Care have been amazing and a breath of fresh air! The staff at the front are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They also clearly explained my coverage and billing when I asked about getting a night guard for myself. The hygienist that did my son's cleaning was super gentle and stopped to explain everything that she was doing so that my son felt comfortable. Dr. Wong was able to ease my son's fear over some pain he had been having (just a tooth coming in). We could not have asked for a better experience. The office is perfectly clean and modern. They have TVs above each station to help distract and pass the time. They welcome new patients with the gift of a Sonicare toothbrush (wow!). We have found our new family dentist!
