My solution, got a GTS Vespa to try and see how easy it gets to commute to work every day. Well... let me tell you about it. It is really lovely to drive to work, make a few stops before if I need to, get my morning coffee as I park right in front of the store, any store.. finding free parking it's never a issue, as a matter fact it's been 6 months I haven't used the subway that all. I am happier to make my own commute, gas is supper cheap.. I ride my Vespa every single day 10 to 20 miles around town and gas is about 4 dollars a week. Yeah! Bit that. I was really please with everyone who helped me at the Vespa Piaggio Store the team is really friendly, specially Luis, who found exactly the model of Vespa good for me.. and gave a all the sweet tips that has been really helpful since he owns him self a Vespa. I used to hang out at Walts when they were down on10th and rummage around GW when they were on 16th....... Blackfoot looked really pretty and the selection was OK, maybe a tad pricy, but the place looks great and they have a really smoken store, a decent size and fair selection. GW- gotta love em, the place has growed up a tad since the old days and now its freggin huge! A really great selection of gear and the staff were awesome, dude came up showed me what I wanted and explained why I can pay $100 bucks for a dome or a grand! The prices looked a bit higher than Blackfoot a bit but I'll double check tomorrow. I didn't really get any help at Blackfoot though when I was there, I was pretty much ignored. Then I went to Walts - on the web site they show a freggen WALL of helmets but when I got there all there was is just a puny selection on the wall and half of those looked old. Pretty Sad and misleadingas all hell!! Man, that place looked like a hole, maybe the prices are great because they don't spend a ton on looks, I dunno. It kinda sucks, I've driven Yammy's for years but I don't know if I'd wanna buy one from Walts. He tried to tell me the bike was unreliable and didn't have ABS. I told him I was looking right at them on the bike. I asked for the odometer reading, and he tells me the battery is dead. Since he clearly didn't know anything about the bike specs, I went to Ava. She asked me on the phone if I wanted to pay in full or do a payment plan, and I told her the battery was dead. They scheduled a meeting for a Friday, which had to be rescheduled for the following week because the battery still hadn't come in. I go in today finally, battery installed, bike turns on, and she asks if I plan to drive it off the lot today. Yes of course, but she said it still hadn't been serviced yet, then tells me it's too early to be serviced at 31 miles. I don't necessarily want to keep making trips here if they can't guarantee I can leave with the bike. I arrive and I cannot get a straight answer on where this bike came from. Daniel told me it was a trade-in. Ava told me initially that the owner likely bought it for himself then changed his mind, then she said he may have bought it as a gift, then she said actually it came from a disabled owner who bent the clutch lever in to accommodate his disability. I asked for some kind of verification of this history and they said they couldn't provide it. Not to mention the clutch lever was loose and because it was bent they needed to replace it, which again prevents me from leaving with the bike that day and added yet another trip. Ava asked a man named Leo to talk to me about the service history, and he said they hadn't performed anything. I asked what about the battery? And he goes oh yeah well that. Everyone's attitude felt extremely apathetic and even insulted I inquired about the history of a used bike. They never even offered me or my partner water. The worst part was the breakdown of fees. They said they have a non-negotiable $595 dealer prep fee. For a used bike! That isn't even a Ducati! They can't even service the Enfield with Enfield parts. The receipt for the battery was for a generic YTX9-BS. They wouldn't remove the dealer prep fee, and claimed they needed to charge over $300 for registration. Max allowed by NYS Law is $175. Again, they seemed extremely jaded that I had the audacity to come prepared. When I assumed I could hold onto the buyer report to consider it at home, the manager ripped the papers from my hand, claiming they were "legal documents" I could sign and I wasn't allowed to keep them. That was not only bizarre, but aggressive. After I asked them to remove all the registration and documentation fees, they still came up with $4250, $750 over asking, for a used bike because they "can't remove a dealer prep fee" for a bike they haven't prepared a damn thing for. I counter-offered $4K cash, they declined and I walked out. The entire interaction lacked expertise, care, or even basic courtesy and customer service. It's one thing to charge exorbitant fees on a used bike, it's another to do it rudely, especially having come in with cash in hand to pay free and clear. Avoid this location, go to Cycle Therapy and work with individuals like Rav who aren't going to charge you a prep fee for used bikes.

Hugh (owner & chief mechanic) and Fumi (mechanic) are extremely competent, old-school mechanics, and their positive reputation is well-deserved. Hugh is responsible for keeping the sub-culture of vintage British motorcycles alive and well, in the dealer-infested NYC. I have used the mechanic shop since 2016. I really wish them well and want the shop to continue to succeed. However, over the last couple of years I have had bad experiences with them. Josh who is now the shop manager is lacking in people skills, communication, dependability, follow-through, courtesy & humility and other principles of basic customer service. It is not easy to bypass him, given he also blocks the customers from talking to Hugh directly which is odd given part of the great experience with Sixth St Specials used to be the friendly contact with the mechanics who work on your bike. Most recently, the brand new tyres they installed in June 2020 developed side-wall cracks despite just 6 months/3K mile use. I had diligently inflated the tyres to the manufacturer-recommended PSIs, ridden the motorcycle non-aggressively on tarred roads, and winterized the motorcycle on the center-stand in a weather-controlled garage etc. When I asked for help with filing a warranty claim with the tyre manufacturer Josh was unhelpful despite multiple calls and never followed through. I had to contact the tyre manufacturer directly and have them call the shop to get the purchase details in order to file the claim. Last year, I had poor experiences dealing with Josh as well (for e.g. he insisted that my motorcycle did not have liquid cooling even though it did, pushed me towards the brand of tyre he had in stock, mounted the tyres despite my forewarning that the manufacturing dates were more than 5 years old, gave me strict ultimatums on deciding various options of fix for a rear brake light trigger etc.) I believe this issue is fixable and I hope the shop does not lose its hard-earned reputation because of the shop manager.
