Well, I went down a rabbit hole and found Poppy and Monroe! A head spa is more than just a massage. At Poppy and Monroe, they give you a scalp analysis, massage, and essential oil treatments, with plenty of warm, rushing water to rinse and finesse. My treatment, which was pretty pricey at around 300 bucks, also included a facial (the esthetician rubbing my face was divine), foot massage, and hand/arm massage. At the beginning of the head treatment, Anna (who was AMAZING, by the way) showed me what was good and bad about my hair and scalp--my scalp was some of the best she'd seen, but was a little pale and needed more blood flow. She then showed me what my scalp looked like after that treatment, and there was indeed more blood flow, and looked more vibrant and less anemic. Anna was professional and kind and told me what she was doing every step of the way. She made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Everything felt wonderful. The vibe was calm. I felt relaxed. After the visit, Anna gave me pointers on how to care for my scalp and recommendations for returning for further treatments, but not in a gimmicky-trying-to-sell-me-stuff way. The space is warm and welcoming and also offers pedicures, manicures, and makeup sessions. The pedicure/manicure spaces are a little close together for my taste (I prefer private rooms), but they are stylish and clean. I plan to come back and see Anna again to work on my self care regimen. And there are lots of cute restaurants and shops in the area, so you can park and make an afternoon of it!

I easily made an appointment through Instagram DMs and spoke in advance about their fruit nail art. The guy doing my nails was definitely not as comfortable (described himself as unconfident) in nail art, so I was surprised he was assigned to my appointment. Don't get me wrong, they turned out super cute, but I feel like there was a disconnect between the employee making my appointment and the technician which could've made the process more smooth (for him and me) and more similar to the online photos. All of the employees were kind and made sure I was comfortable in my chair, dialed in my shade of red, and provided complementary water. The other customers in the salon were clearly repeat customers who love their nail technicians and sing DIP's praises. Jayden is possibly the owner or at least a top dog at the salon who was busy as a nail tech and helped when the cashier had issues. Kim was my nail technician, and I requested a simple manicure with regular polish. During the service, she filed my nails so thin that they became sensitive and burned. When I asked her to trim them shorter so they would not extend past my fingertips, she repeatedly ignored my request. I had to show her a reference photo and ask several times before she adjusted the length. She also left visible cuticles untrimmed, and when it came time to apply polish, she began insisting that I get gel instead of regular polish. Despite explaining multiple times that I preferred regular polish, she continued to argue and lecture me about how I would "mess it up." After my nails were finished, I sat under the fan for at least 8 minutes until they were completely dry. When I got up to leave, she yelled at me to sit for an additional 15 minutes. When I politely declined, she told me, "When you mess them up, I will not fix for you." Just an overall negative experience.
