This experience has been a nightmare since it began 5 or so years ago. We've never had so much trouble scheduling appointments, receiving reminders, or getting quality service... but this place was much below our expectations. The reception desk always without fail called the wrong person to remind us about our appointments, and we would regularly get alerts for other patients. We had to come in 3-4 times after a visit because the prescription we received was wrong. And to top it off, after marriage we couldn't get my wife's name changed in the system so insurance was a pain since they thought she wasn't covered. InSight LASIK with Dr. Carlson and Dr. Starck Johnson. I was a patient at a different practice, and was considering LASIK. A close friend and ENT of 30 years said that if I was serious, the best place in Denver was here. If you just need that information, you can stop reading: I found no reason to doubt her and would recommend InSight LASIK to anyone in a heartbeat. I went in for a consultation, got a quote, and was on my way. As an engineer, I was blown away! Their technology is amazing! It really is an amazing science, and great to have professionals that are so proficient. Baby number one came for our family shortly thereafter and blew up our HSA, so we pumped the brakes. Fast forward 18 months. I went back and got a new appointment, refreshed my info and tests, and was given a new (better!) quote. I was ready to pull the trigger, so the surgery was scheduled 10 days later. Went back in the day before for final tests, and then I was there! My wife was allowed to view the surgery (she even took some video to make me squirm). I am now 11 days out, love it, procedure was amazing, fast, and healed over the weekend. Also, they have a hookup with a payment plan company, so I am 0% for two years (I plan on having it paid much sooner, it was not expensive). With that in mind, my thoughts for anyone who is considering it is to do it ASAP. It is amazing to see! So much changes without glasses (sunglasses options, workout, swimming, just seeing myself when I shave!!!). However, I do agree with several other reviews, their wait times are notable. For me, they would tell me to book 90 mins for an appt, and I was always out on time or early, it just feels a little strange to wait for 30 mins and have everything with the Dr. done in 5-15. On the whole, from first appt to surgery done was 10 days, and full vision functionality the next day. No complications (it almost felt too easy, ridiculous that I had waited so long). I saw Dr. Alan Barber this past week and was very impressed with him. His patience, explanation of tests and recommendations for a path forward was very thorough and included multiple options for me to consider. Dr Barber took time to understand my hobbies and activities and how best to proceed with my eye care. However, my experience with the eye glass center (located in the same suite) was not so good. I needed glasses and during the process of selecting some, I ended up leaving very frustrated. My eyes where dilated so my vision wasn't great and I needed assistance selecting a new pair and wanted to know what my insurance coverage was. The employee was impatient, lazy and a tad flippant. At one point she actually told me to bring the glasses that I was interested in to her (while sitting down) and she would help me. My expectation was that she would walk around with me and help pick a pair that fit my face and let me know what the cost is and how much my insurance coverage was. (My insurance wasn't applicable for some brand names.) Needless to say, I left feeling rushed and frustrated. A very good Dr.'s visit was soured by a bad experience in the eye glass center. I'm giving this 3 stars primarily because of the Eye Glass Center. 5+ stars for Dr. Barber as he was outstanding. read more

I had great experience with the assistant who did the initial eye exam for my daughter and Dr. Barber was very kind that my nervous daughter was at ease with so many tests . However, when I presented my insurance card at the first visit,the receptionist asked "what was it..CHP or something?" Then at the second visit, she told me I owed them $95 from the last visit and the bill was sent out few days ago. I told her I'll have to contact my insurance first to see if there was an error. Then she said "you can't pay now?" Both first visit and this time she made me so unwelcomed, implying I shouldn't come back for annual exam because they are not in network. I mean where and when do you ever hear that from a receptionist? Usually you hear "I'm sorry we are not in network but you are more than welcome to come back!" I was so sickened by her service. read more

Avoid! Terrible eye care. Awful service. Very high prices. All this, with an arrogant and condescending attitude. Everyone, from the catty optical department manager Diane who prances around talking non-stop, to the incompetent Optometrist Dr. Barber, acts like they are doing you a favor by even spending a moment with you. They only thing they are interested in is your money. I advise that you run, not walk, away from this lousy eye care provider. read more

The front desk people are horrible! Many of us work regular business hours (including myself) so when I scheduled my surgery, I asked if there were other times available aside from the midday time that she provided. This woman responded, "The doctors don't just wait around all day for appointments." Yeah lady, I know but I have a job. Most important, I'm not asking for free services. I'm actually paying thousands of dollars to be treated this way by you. Now you're asking ME to cater to these doctors that you want me to pay for? A simple, "that's the only time we have available for that day" would have sufficed. She then had the audacity to ask me to call her back a few days before the surgery to see if another time slot is available. So now you want me to do your job? Why can't you put me on a wait-list and let ME know when it's available? Damn. So lazy, rude and unprofessional! You want me to pay for this crappy service? THIS is how you treat potential patients? No wonder there are so many horrible reviews about your service. I'm going elsewhere. read more

They may perform good surgery, but my experience never got that far. I started with submitting the online form for information. After a week and a half of no response, I decided I'd call. I was immediately put on hold for several minutes. I finally hung up and waited a while to call back. Same thing this time, but I waited through the hold. When the employee answered she was not willing to give much information about their process or services and literally asked me, 'well, what do you want to know?' When I stated that I wasn't sure about using them for my vision correction due to service, she hung up. I'm not sure I could be convinced this company is worth spending my money with. I have been a patient of Dr. Carlson for about four or five years, even prior to changing to Specialty Eye Care. Having been to several eye doctor's over 68 years I can honestly say that I have never had a better experience with any other doctor. Dr. Carlson has never made me feel rushed. She has spent a lot of time with me explaining everything about the diagnosis, what care I will need, the options I have and has answered everyone of my questions. My eye doctor is Dr. Carlson, whom I've been with for 10 years, regardless of where she practices. She is knowledgeable, professional, and personable. At my annual checkup last week, she spent all the time it took to understand my vision, discussed my options with me, and talked about the cost/benefit to all the options. I have rarely had a professional tell me the cost/benefit analysis, as they generally just want you to spend money. Because of her desire to take care of both my eyes as well as my wallet, I will be a patient for life. read more

My 22 year old son had corrective surgery here and they did a great job. The surgery process was very professional, equipment was state of the art, the doc's were great, and his results were excellent. Also, their follow up after the surgery was top notch. Finally, I liked their pricing, one price for everything, did not feel "nickeled and dimed" (spelling?) - Strongly recommend. read more

Writing about the Lowry location: I take (or rather took) my dad to about six eye appointments here, but I've had enough. The doctors seem to be ok (although some are rushed), but today the receptionist placed me on hold for more than 7 minutes, then disconnected the call. Usually I just have to wait on hold for 5+ minutes, but this was rather frustrating. We generally have to wait at least 20 minutes past our appointment time to be seen, and once had to wait another hour to see the doctor. It's a very busy office (good for them) but not so great for the patients who pile up in the waiting room and then the halls. The front desk seems very overworked and curt. Not very patient friendly. In addition, it's really hard to get in to see a doctor right away if you have a problem, which is worrisome. I think it's going to be a challenge to try to get his records transferred but I don't think it's wise to stick with this clearly over-scheduled office. read more

Absolutely Incredible Experience! After 20 years of contacts and glasses I finally decided to investigate LASIK. I had four different consultations in the Denver area prior to coming to InSight. I thought it was important to investigate the facility, the physician, the exam process and the overall experience of each office. I found varying prices, lasers and different philosophies on patient care. Some of the offices had a factory feel where they were willing to do your free exam one day and schedule for the procedure on the next. Insight was different. The facility is incredible. More importantly, the staff was welcoming, professional and no pressure. The experience was what you would expect from a doctor's office. They performed my initial exam and then required me to have another exam a few days before the procedure. On the day of the procedure there were multiple staff members involved in my care. They were organized and efficient creating an atmosphere where you can be confident in your care. I was in the office for a little under an hour with my total time in the procedure room of less than 10 minutes. I left with all of my post care instructions, took a nap at home and woke up with incredibly clear vision! At my day after appointment I was able to read the 20/15 line! I can't believe how clear my vision is every day since then and I'm so glad I chose InSight. Dr Jackson has provided me with excellent pre and post op care and Dr. Johnson performed a perfect procedure. I think anyone interested in the procedure should have a few different consultations at other locations and then come to InSight. You'll really understand why InSight is the best. Love the eye doctors but terrible service! I went to pick up my eye glasses and waited 25 min before being acknowledged. I then waited another hour when my pick up only took 5 min. I won't be ordering glasses from them again. Unacceptable to wait that long. read more

First off this is my second time visiting insight vision. Dr. Carlson and her group are very professional and the reason I came a second time. However the staff at the front desk are very unprofessional they were in the office talking and no one came to check me in! I finally asked a staff member that was walking by and she got the receptionist who was away assisting a doctor. The other women were still in that side office just gossiping and ignore me. This was in August I had a total of 2 appointments on different days to complete all my vision testing along with my eye exam. So I finally get all my testing done. I realize a couple of weeks later that I never received my new prescription. I call and they fax it to me. I also get a bill for a copay but this was a medical exam and I've met my out of pocket and should be covered 100%. I called billing they told me it's billed as two different codes and that's why I was billed. I question it but I'm met with no answers other than that's the way it is! Ok $35 bucks gone not a lot but it shouldn't be billed. Now a few months later I take this prescription to get new my new glasses and the prescription is wrong, they didn't measure me for distance. Also I was examined by 3 different people for my vision test over these 2 appointments. I call today 1/4/20 and I try to explain this to the woman that answered the phone as I don't want to repay for the exam and she was rude and cut me off. Told me Dr. Carlson doesn't do optometrist work ( I know this) but I was still given an exam by 3 people in that office! I just want a good re-exam without the rudeness. I will never go to this office again! read more

The optical dept. is a joke, horrible customer service. The other poster who said the older lady is abrasive is right. She speaks loud enough for the world to know your business and is downright rude. I will not go here again for that reason. Nice facility, knowledgable Doctors, and good patient experience. Surgery day was organized and their process was thorough but streamlined. During consultation, what to expect was very well communicated and they were up front about cost and willing to share details and answer all questions about technology and process. All post-op instructions and medications were included in a to-go bag, which was very nice. Only suggestion for improvement would be professionalism and knowledge of reception staff. Overall pleasant experience for such a life-changing procedure. read more

Can I give it 0 stars? I left with worse eye health than when I went in for my consult, there was no follow up despite the fact I called them and asked for one and had asked if I needed to be seen. I was told if I was concerned then I should see my normal eye doctor. However, Insight expected me - without telling me - to go back to them to be looked at. The lack of communication and their utter denial of responsibility is disappointing a best. read more

This place is great--the two front desk staff, Amber and Hingrid, are responsive and efficient. Hingrid always has a smile on her face too. Teresa Carlson is knowledgeable and takes time to explain things and is willing to answer questions (seems like this should be a given when it's about your eyes, but I shopped around at a couple places, and you could clearly tell those who were trying to push LASIK vs those who want you to do it but are also willing to take time to explain). Only once had I had to wait for more than 15-20 minutes (at the office across the street) before being called back. They are worth the drive up from CO springs. (On a side note, I also really like how they had an educator discount....which was more than the military discount! I would like to think it reflects priorities....). Also, Angie was incredible in the way she answered all my questions--I think she's an example of how front line people really, really matter! read more

I would like to give a review, but I can't get anyone to call me back to get a simple consultation. I have called numerous times, I have used the website to schedule an appointment, and nothing. It has been two weeks of me trying to get a hold of someone. I have heard great things about InSight, 4 people from my office all recommend them, they have been treated there. But if I don't get any return phone calls to set up a simple appointment what's to say the rest isn't going to be the same? read more

This place has terrible customer service, they could care less about you sitting in the waiting room and when you ask what is the hold up, you get blank looks and an offer for an apt a month later! My insurance listed Dr. Johnson with Specialty Eye Care as an opthamologist that I could go to for my yearly eye exam. When I called for my appointment, the receptionist asked if I wore contacts and I said I did. I arrived at my appointment early because I knew there would be paperwork. I waited for almost 35 minutes AFTER my appointment time to be called. I saw Dr. Johnson and was given an eye exam but was told I would have to COME BACK for my contact lens exam???!??! I explained to him that I had taken off work for this appointment and had never had an issue with an opthamologist not being able to examine my contacts. Long story short, I came back for another appointment with the optometrist, Dr. Barber. I was forced to wait another 30 minutes after my appointment time before being called back. I explained that I was disappointed that I had to come back and he said that he had heard about this issue from other patients as well??!?!? Turns out he wanted me to come back for a 3rd APPOINTMENT to make sure my contacts fit. This time I waited 35 minutes in the waiting room after my appointment time. I spent lots of $$$$ to sit and wait at all 3 appointments and in the end, I'd probably feel just as comfortable with an optometrist from Costco. That will be my last experience with Specialty Eye Care. read more

The doctors are all great. They were respectful and very experienced with my cataracts. I had the very best of care from them. However, appointments and especially billing are a joke! When one receives a bill and it doesn't add up, one calls billing to solve the problem. If this happens, don't talk to M. She is disrespectful and would rather argue or mention secret charges that are not on the bill! I did not receive full credit for my VISA payment. She actually made up charges not on the bill! What? It was so much easier for her to argue than to solve a problem! She might have been the one at the front desk who messed up my appointment, too. I had the appointment for three months and she said I didn't. I even showed her the text message from them on my phone confirming it. She said she would work me in! What? I had the appointment for THREE months and even confirmed it. If you want good care with expertise, I recommend these doctors. Beware of the appointments and BILLING! I'm a week post-surgery and couldn't be happier. I was honestly pretty scared about doing this and had put it off for years....now I feel ridiculous. It was fast, painless (seriously, laser hair removal and waxing are worse), and easy. Took about 5 minutes for the entire procedure. There were 2 upfront appointments plus day-of that made me feel they were checking/ being cautious on everything. The staff was SO nice. Especially the woman who talked to me pre-op and kept my mind off of getting my eyeballs operated on by being chatty and fun. The doctor had amazing credentials - Harvard MD and other things that soothed my mind. After the 5 min surgery, my fiancé drove me home and I slept for 5 hours (they give you something similar to Valium to calm you down and make you sleepy - it works!). When I woke up, I could SEE. Mind officially blown. Every night I don't take my contacts out, every day I don't feel them dry and irritated, every morning I don't put them in, is a day where I'm so glad I did it. So freaking happy. read more

Will never return. I was put in a room after the initial "readings" and forgotten about for about 40 minutes...I finally came out looking for someone, who then went and notified the doctor. She came in about ten minutes later and was done with me in a minute - didn't do a thing. No one ever checked for my reading prescription even though I told them I needed a stronger one. So when I confronted it, they read my old glasses and wrote that down. I said I needed it stronger, so they bumped it up a little. Went home, pulled out old prescription, saw that the prescription was the same as 3 years prior. Also noted that my distance prescription was now weaker than it had been in 20 years, after I told them my distance correction was fine. I actually had to call them back and tell them what prescription to give me. I directed them - the only reason I went in was to be able to order new glasses and I could have clearly done all that myself. One receptionist was rude, too - curt "I don't know" answers.
