My first time there, I got the smores cookie (deluxe) and it was super yummy, gooey, warm, and chewy (my favorite kind of cookies). They also have ice cream that was made in Wisconsin which I will definitely have to try next time. The only thing is that the cookies are kind of expensive, so I wouldn't go there every day. When I was in high school in the late 90s/early 2000s I used to work at a cookie store. If memory serves me correct, we used to sell our cookies for 75 cents a pop, which struck me as being quite pricey. It turns out that we had nothing on Insomnia. I just went in and bought 1 chocolate chip cookie, 1 white chocolate macadamia, and one of their "deluxe" peanut butter cup cookies. The total somehow came to $6.17. I've tried the first two cookies-- they were good; not mindblowingly spectacular, but very tasty. The deluxe one is for my wife. Unless there's a crumpled up $2 bill stuck in there, there's no way that the sugar will chase the bad taste of paying such an obscene price out of my mouth. (50 cookies costs $56. Ever since they opened I have been wanting to try these cookies. Finally stopped by an afternoon while taking stroll down state street. I was left disappointed by their cookies. They're not bad, but they're not anything really special. Their cookie options are very standard you won't find any exotic or gourmet cookies, which was the other thing that disappointed me. I had the triple chocolate chunk. I was pleased to see that they also offer ice cream cookie sandwiches as well as pints of ice cream. I think getting an ice cream cookie sandwich would be a far better option than their cookies alone. I guess their actual selling point is not so much the cookies, but their service hours. I was in Madison for a night and walked by Insomnia Cookies and wondered to myself, "is it popular because it's open till 3 AM or is it a really good cookie?" So I went in with no expecpectation to answer my query and the call of my sweet tooth! You really can't go wrong with a warm cookie, but you can build on good to be great! I tried the delux peanut butter and the smore cookie. The smore cookie worked! The peanut butter cookie was not good unless you like a gooey warm slop that was, at one point, cookie shaped. Thankfully, I was able to get a different cookie, and the staff told me, that's what the PB cookie is like out of the oven. I'm thinking, "increasing the cook time by a minute would make a world of cookie structure difference." I ended up getting the mint chocolate chip which held together much better but was unappealingly sweet. The mint chip wasn't very good in combination with the chocolate cookie dough; thinking they need to reduce the sugar content of the dough and use better cocoa powerder to hold up against the strong mint flavor. Conclusion: These are actually expensive cookies for the okay quality, but when you want a warm cookie, late at night, and you don't know how to bake. Insomnia Cookies all the way! read more

Huge portions! I got a chocolate cookie sandwich and she put three scoops of ice-cream on it! A fun place for a quick bite of sweet. I once tried Insomnia at the Purdue campus, and then the Madison location popped up a few months ago. Overall, the cookies are tasty, and I don't deny that. But I can't justify the cost for a single cookie, let alone a few of them given how small they are. It's seriously tough to cough up money on this sort of food, but that might just be a personal preference. When no delivery occurred 45 minutes after delivery was expected, we called the store and the driver. They blamed us for not being more clear about the delivery, although we explicitly stated and confirmed our desired order time. Both people we spoke to were rude to us. The prospect of Late Night Cookies seemed too good to pass up, so a friend and I ditched our group for the night and went in search of dessert. He girl working was EXTREMELY incompetent and couldn't even answer basic questions about the menu (I still don't know what a 'Bigwich' is and I don't care enough anymore to look it up). She also couldn't take orders very well (read: at all). We tried to order ice cream cookie sandwiches and she kept talking about cookies with a scoop of ice cream on top? Like, we know, dude, that's why we're trying to order. Beyond the poor service (there are many other things I could critique, but I think the point is clear already), the actual ice cream sandwiches weren't sandwiches at all. She literally took a plate, pulled a cookie out of a drawer (kinda sketchy, but hopefully it was just a heating drawer), placed a misshapen glob of soft and airy ice cream on the (quite warm) cookie, then set another cookie on top of the mess. This would have been fine if A) the cookies weren't warm, B) the ice cream was colder/better quality, or C) the cookie-ice cream monstrosity was in a bowl. Instead, the cookies melted the ice cream before we even had time to walk outside and the sad puddle of melted dreams dripped on us as we tried to eat and as we walked to the trash can. The idea for this place is good, but the experience was not. I highly doubt either of us will be back. read more
